Magdelene L. Warner
Retired wedding caterer

Magdelene L. Warner, 74, of Farnum Street, Clyde, died in the Bellevue Hospital, Sunday, March 14, 1999.

She was born in Sandusky, Oct. 14, 1924, the daughter of Robert and Magdelene (Bluhm) Oeder. On June 18, 1955, she married Wilfred Warner, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Charlene Henry of Clyde and Mrs. Wayne (Susan) Bilbrey of Sandusky; two sons, Dean Henry of Clyde and Don Henry of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Norman Oeder of Sandusky.

Two infant daughters, Linds Sue Henry and Mary Magdelene Warner; and three brothers, Robert Jr., Albert and Eugene Oeder, are deceased.

Mrs. Warner, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, had been a caterer for weddings and also employed at the Band Box Cleaners in Fremont, before her retirement.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Huron.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 1425 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. 00709.

Nancy J. Beck
McCutchenville homemaker

Nancy J. Beck, 64, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999, at her home at 158 Clay St., McCutchenville.

She was born Nov. 14, 1934, in Findlay, to the late Charles D. and Hazel Marie (Crawford) Smith. On Jan. 8, 1955, she married Wayne A. Beck, who survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, James A. Beck of McCutchenville, Terry Beck of Palm Springs, Fla. and Steve Beck of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Christina Miller of Findlay and Lisa Stagel of Mount Airy, Md.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Don Smith of Kittery, Maine; and four sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Virginia) Hards and Mrs. Ruth Bryant, both of Findlay, Mrs. Elaine Beach of Arlington and Mrs. Barbara McCoy of Van Wert.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Smith.

A homemaker, Mrs. Beck was a member of both VFW Post 3003 and AMVETS Post 21 Auxiliaries.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Rev. Gregory Creech officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Bechtel cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be noon until time of the service Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, 320 W. Maple St., Suite C, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.

William A. 'Bill' Downs
Retired technician

William A. "Bill" Downs, 70, of 7 W. Market St., died at his home at 6:10 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999.

He was born in Wood County, Dec. 16, 1928, to Arthur L. and Garnet (McFarland) Downs. His first wife, Shari, is deceased. On June 9, 1988, he married Jessie B. Schleisam, who also is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Teri Jacobsen of California; a grandson, Denny; three brothers, Robert L., Louis A. and Walter E. Downs; and two sisters, Orlena C. Byrum of Tiffin and Juanita M. Horner of Holland, Ohio; three nieces and three nephews.

Infant twin sons, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Downs, who attended the Tiffin Schools, served three years in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II. A year and a half of that service time was spent in China.

At one time he was an owner and pilot of a single engine airplane and also licensed as a radiotelephone operator.

For 28 years he was a member of Local Union 7 of the International Alliance of Theatrical State Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada, located in Denver, Colo.

Mr. Downs ran camera for feature motion pictures and set up sound equipment for rock groups in the 1980s, at the Red Rock Amphitheater in the Rocky Mountains. He did sound and lighting for numerous stage plays, including "Phantom of the Opera," "The Barber of Seville," and worked in Toledo at the Stranahan Theatre for the production of "Les Miserables."

He also worked on many motion pictures including "Any Which Way But Loose" starring Clint Eastwood; "Die Hard II" with Bruce Willis and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase.

The Rev. Jan Kucera will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where the United Veterans Council will conduct graveside services.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.

Roland L. Lindsay
Lifelong farmer

Roland L. Lindsay, 77, of Smith Road, Fremont, died late Saturday night, March 13, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont, following a short illness.

He was born in Riley Township, April 8, 1921, to E. Lee and Gladys (Stout) Lindsay. His wife, Grace M. (Balsizer) Lindsay, whom he married Jan. 2, 1943, died Aug. 23, 1990.

Survivors include: a son, Steven of Fremont; five daughters, Laura Lamalie, Susanne Fausnaugh and Jean Dupey, all of Fremont and Carol and Sharon Lindsay, both of Cape Cod, Mass.; a brother, Nelson Lindsay of Clyde; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lindsay, a life-long farmer, played baseball for the Fremont Semi-Pro Green Socks and for the York Teams.

A graduate of Ross High School, he was a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, where he had served as past president and Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also was the recipient of the FFA State Farmer Degree.

Services in the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary, Fremont, will be noon Thursday. Burial will be in McGormley cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospital.

Modest Corrine (Cochenour) Covert
McCutchenville native

Modest Corrine (Cochenour) Covert, 79, of Oak Harbor, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, in the Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor.

She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in McCutchenville, to James and Eva (Shuetz) Cochenour. On July 2, 1938, in Wyandot County, she married Clarence A. Covert, who preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1997.

Surviving are: three sons, Dean L.M. Covert of Milford, Mich., Larry L. Covert of Perrysburg and the Rev. James C. Covert of New Ringgold, Pa.; two daughters, Sandra C. Elwing of Perrysburg and Mrs. Bart (Judith D.) Hanus of Temperance, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Kenneth Cochenour and a sister, Fern Bowers.

A homemaker and professional cake baker and decorator (from her home), Mrs. Covert was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, where she was an active volunteer.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Union cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Visitation at the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church W.E.L.C.A. Fund.

Opal M. Gordon
Tiffin resident

Opal M. Gordon, 78, 165 Walker St., died at 8:13 a.m. Sunday, March 14, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Nov. 7, 1920, in Tiffin, to Clifford and Estella (Day) Hill. Her husband, Robert F. Gordon, whom she married June 1, 1941, in Bascom, survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Rebecca Shuff of Tiffin and Roberta Gordon of Republic; four grandchildren, Erica DelCoro of San Juan, Puerto Rico, John Niederkohr of Bowling Green, Laura Koch of Columbus and Michael Koch of Tiffin and two great-grandchildren.

A homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church, Mrs. Gordon was a 1938 graduate of Columbian High School.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Teeters officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Maxine T. Lauderman
Johnny's Hamburger co-owner

Maxine T. Lauderman, 83, formerly of 231 Mohawk St., died at 6:29 a.m. Monday, March 15, 1999, in St. Francis Home.

She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Sandusky, to Frank J. and Margaret Cora (Walker) Nesselhauf. She married John R. Lauderman, Dec. 15, 1947, in Washington Court House, Ohio. He preceded her in death June 25, 1992.

Surviving are a son, John Douglas Lauderman of Norwalk; three sisters, Mrs. Burl (Marian) Brinnon of Hollywood, Fla., Mrs. James (Madlyn) Griner of Bedford and Mrs. Leo (Margaret) Theibert of Sandusky; and two grandchildren.

A brother, Marvin Nesselhauf and a sister, Peggy Nesselhauf, also are deceased.

Mrs. Lauderman, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was the co-proprietor of "Johnny's Hamburger."

A memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Francis Home Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Dunn as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery at a later date.

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Francis Home.

Inez Marie Angles
Fostoria homemaker/centenarian

Inez Marie Angles, 101, formerly of Vine Street, Fostoria, died at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in St. Catherines Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born in Defiance, Feb. 16, 1898, to John and Mae (Myers) Allen. On Oct. 2, 1915, in Monroe, Mich., she married Elza Virgil Angles, who died Feb. 5, 1981.

Survivors include: five sons, Allen of Urbana, Milton, Duane and Gregory, all of Fostoria and Ronald of Cape Coral, Fla.; two daughters, Donelda Myers of Fostoria and Marilyn Burford of Chatam, Onterio Canada; 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two daughters, Audrey and Connie Angles; four brothers, Roy, Roll, William and Harry Allen; a sister, Nell Ogle; and three great-grandchildren, Jeff Angles, Thomas Buford and Cara Rae Myers.

A homemaker, Mrs. Angles was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria, where she was a former organist, Sunday School teacher and board member.

Services in the First Church of the Nazarene will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Russell Gumm officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Richard A. Thiel
Thiel's Wheels Inc. co-founder/owner

Richard A. Thiel, 72, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his residence at 210 W. Maple St., Upper Sandusky.

He was born July 18, 1926, in Wyandot County, to Albert F. and Rosella (Seifert) Thiel. His mother survives in Upper Sandusky. His wife, Kathlyn A. (Gottfried) Thiel, whom he married April 23, 1949, in St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Robert J. and Larry L. Thiel, both of Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Connie) Spitler of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Kip (Christina) Johnson of Hilliard; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a brother, Paul F. Thiel of Upper Sandusky.

A sister, Margery T. Vaughn, is deceased.

Mr. Thiel had owned and operated Dick and Katie's Grocery and Carry-Out; drove truck for Sammet Trucking and had worked at the John Deere Store, all in Upper Sandusky. He also was co-founder/owner of Thiel's Wheels Inc. 1985-93, also of Upper Sandusky.

A 1944 Upper Sandusky High School graduate, he was a life member of both St. Peter's Catholic Church and AMVETS Post 777 and a member of American Legion 225, where he was a past commander; K of C and BPOE 83, VFW 2842 and Moose Lodge 1093. He also had served as past grand knight of the K of C.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Phillipines and Japan, he enjoyed playing golf and riding his scooter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local veteran organizations..

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where a Biblical Scripture service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital Health Foundation, St. Peter School or the donor's choice.

Jean M. Wagner
Homemaker

Jean M. Wagner, 64, 419 Clinton Ave., died at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born Jan. 4, 1935, in Tiffn, to the late Duraine and Kathryn (Beidelschies) Welch. On May 15, 1973, in the Methodist Church, Republic, she married Robert E. Wagner, who survives.

Survivors also include: a daughter, Kathy S. Gundlach of Sandusky; two step-sons, James R. Wagner of Republic and Richard E. Wagner of rural Tiffin; a brother, Duraine E. Welch of Wheaton, Ill.; a grandson and two step-grandsons.

A step-child also is deceased.

Mrs. Wagner, a homemaker, had worked as an aide for nine years at the Tiffin State Hospital (now Tiffin Developmental Center).

A member of the Protestant Faith, she was a Columbian High School graduate.

The Rev. Ted Austin will conduct the 1:30 p.m. Saturday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fairmont Cemtery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society.

Doris Wagner
Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Doris Wagner, 761 W. Seneca CR 16, who died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore.

Genevieve Marie Fetters

Owner Fetters 5¢ to $1.00 Store

Genevieve Marie Fetters, 90, formerly of Carey, recently of West Hills, CA., died at 10:35 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 1999. She was born Aug. 20, 1908 in Bucyrus to Edward and Mary (Goebelt) Ekleberry. On June 16, 1930 she married Donald B. Fetter; he died Dec. 22, 1976. Surviving include: a daughter, Mrs. Jon (Karen) Oades of CA.; three grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.

Preceded in death was: a grandson, David C. Oades.

Mrs. Fetters attended Bowling Green State University for three years, and along with her husband Mrs. Fetters owned and operated Fetters 5¢ to $1.00 Store in Carey, she retired in 1969, after 50 years in business. She was a homemaker and a member in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey; Carey Chapter O.E.S. 168; Tuesday Night Bridge Club; and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. The Pastor Charles C. Steward will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, March 20, 1999 service at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Bucyrus.

Visitation hours are from 7-9 p.m., tonight, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
