Florence A. Thom
Tiffin homemaker

Florence A. Thom, 84, 815 S. Washington St., died at 11:33 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born May 1, 1915, in Wichita, Kan., to Peter and Sadie (Koogan) Scholidon. In May 1932, in Bascom, she married Carl J. Thom Sr. He died May 30, 1973.

Surviving are two sons, Carl J. Jr. and Wallace Thom, both of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Carol) Wyss of Tiffin and Mrs. Eusebio (Janet) Guzman Jr. of Fremont; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Dunn of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were three sons, Norman, Donald and Kenneth Thom; two brothers, John and Anthony Scholidon; two sisters, Nora Simms and Martha Sendelbach; a grandson, Michael Thom; and a great-grandson, R.J. Miller.

Mrs. Thom, a homemaker and an avid bingo player, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Tiffin Eagles 402 Auxiliary.

The Rev. James K. Say will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Friday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:45 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8:45.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Gladys L. Ridge
Fostoria homemaker

Gladys L. Ridge, 96, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in the Independence House, Fostoria, where she resided.

She was born in Benton Ridge June 26, 1902, to Agustus and Cora (Powell) Hickman. Her husband, Melvin Ridge, whom she married Sept. 20, 1920, in Benton Ridge, died in 1966.

Survivors include: a son, Rex Ridge of Bucyrus; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Ruth Ann) Armbruster of Sun Lake, Ariz; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Roger M. Ridge; a great-grandson, Adam Ridge; a brother, George Hickman; and four sisters, Eva Dreisbauch, Minnie Munger, Ora Porter and Mabel Hickman, are deceased.

Mrs. Ridge, a homemaker, formerly resided at 908 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Fostoria.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Star, both of Fostoria.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Jeffrey Waite officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-8 p.m. today.

Philomena C. 'Fanny' DiCesare
Tiffin Kmart retiree

Philomena C. "Fanny" DiCesare, 71, of 115 E. High St., Fostoria, died in the Fostoria Community Hospital at 5:48 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999.

She was born in Fostoria Jan. 22, 1928, to Angelo and Angelina (Bruno) DiCesare.

Surviving are a brother, Peter A. DiCesare of Fostoria; and three sisters, Mary J. and Julia A. DiCesare and Loretta "Poppie" Groves, all of Fostoria.

Two brother, Luigi "Louis" and Julius "Frank" DiCesare, also are deceased.

Miss DiCesare, a 1946 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, retired from the Tiffin Kmart. She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church and Schools or a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert Eisenhard
G.E. employee/tavern owner

Robert Eisenhard, 51, 370 S. Monroe St., died after 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the M & R Bar.

He was born in Tiffin May 15, 1947, to the late James and Margaret (Mizen) Eisenhard. His former wife, Cindra Moore, survives.

Other survivors include a daughter, Ecole Eisenhard of Toledo; and two brothers, James and David Eisenhard, both of Tiffin.

A daughter, Ember Eisenhard, and a brother, Stephen Eisenhard, preceded him in death.

Mr. Eisenhard, a 1965 graduate of Columbian High School and a 1972 graduate of Tiffin University, had been employed at General Electric for 20 years. He also was a tavern owner.

A Vietnam veteran of the 101st Airborne Division, he was a member of the D.A.V., AMVETS and Moose Lodge. Mr. Eisenhard enjoyed fishing.

He was a lifelong Tiffin area resident.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with Dr. Robert E. Buckley officiating.

Visitation at the funeral home will be two hours before the service Friday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Guy R. Osborn
Self-employed farmer

Guy R. Osborn, 51, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at his home at 769 CR 37, Sycamore.

He was born Aug. 26, 1947, in Wyandot County, to the late Jesse H. and Rosemary (Billings) Osborn. On Sept. 17, 1971, he married Rose Craft, who survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Shawn L. Osborn of rural Sycamore; a daughter, Angela Osborn of Tiffin; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Thomas E. Osborn of Upper Sandusky; and two brothers, Michael G. and William W. Osborn, both of the Sycamore area.

Mr. Osborn, a self-employed farmer, was a member of the Protestant faith.

Also a member of VFW Post 2842, Upper Sandusky, he was a 1965 graduate of Mohawk High School and an avid mushroom hunter.

Mr. Osborn served the the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

Services in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by Sycamore American Legion Post 250.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 5-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, Tiffin.

Oral A. Abbott
Capital Glass Corp. retiree

Oral A. Abbott, 87, of 1713 Japack Drive, Fremont, died at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont, where he had been a patient for several days.

He was born near Helena May 17, 1911, to Ervin and Cora (Ladermann) Abbott. His wife, Marian (Fought) Abbott, whom he married April 1, 1967, in Hayes United Methodist Church, Fremont, survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Alice) McRobbie and Kay Louise Abbott, both of Clarington, Pa.; a stepson, Ernest Dagg of Green Springs; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Leroy Abbott of Fremont, Dale Abbott of Castalia, Lloyd Abbott of Burgoon and R.J. Abbott of Pemberville.

A stepson, Dan Dagg; a brother, Russell Abbott; and a sister, Oleta Nitschke, also are deceased.

Mr. Abbott who was employed as a tool and die maker, retired from Capital Glass Aluminum Corp., Bellevue.

He was a member of Hayes United Methodist Church, Fremont, Masonic Blue Lodge 427, Green Springs, of which he was a 50-year member; Icedore Chapter 299 Eastern Star, Green Springs; Zenobia Shrine of Toledo; and Scottish Rite of Toledo, Seneca County and Sandusky County.

A World War II veteran, he was based at Pearl Harbor and Guam with the Navy Seabees. He had attended Rollersville School.

The Rev. Robert J. Campbell will be the officiant at the 2 p.m. Friday service in the Hayes United Methodist Church of Fremont. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs and one hour before the services at the church on Friday. There will be an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m. and a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Margaret Ruth Havens
Clyde homemaker

Margaret Ruth Havens, 84, of Limerick Road, Clyde, died in the Countryside Continuing Care Center, Wednesday May 5, 1999.

She was born in Clyde May 7, 1914, to Albert and Lucy (Brecht) Watt. On Sept. 8, 1934, she married Raymond Havens. He survives.

Survivors also include a daughter, Mrs. John (Virginia Lee) Myhr of Allendale, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. J. Robert (Mary Jane) Martin of Fremont; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Havens, a homemaker, was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde, where she had been in the choir for many years.

A former member of the Clyde Garden Club, she enjoyed flowers, needlework and quilting.

She was a 1932 graduate of Clyde High School and a lifelong resident of the Clyde area.

Services in the St. Paul Lutheran Church will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Gerry Gosnell officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Virgil Kerschner
Tiffin resident's brother

Virgil Kerschner, 86, of 13219 Shadow Drive, Sun City West, Ariz., died at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999.

He was born in Tiffin and is survived by his wife, Lita Kerschner; and two brothers, Dale of Tiffin and Dewayne of Topeka, Kans.

Nine brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

There will be no calling hours.

Leo C. 'Butch' Alt Jr.
Seneca Re-Ads employee

Leo C. "Butch" Alt, Jr., 54, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin. He lived at 7226 S. TR 97, New Riegel.

He was born March 11, 1945, in Tiffin to Leo J. and Geneva (Kiefer) Alt Sr.

His mother survives, along with two brothers, Daniel M. Alt of Baltimore, Md., and Duane R. Alt of New Riegel; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Donna Jean) Meyers of Republic and Shirley Mae Alt of Sandusky; two nieces and five nephews.

He attended slow learners classes of Tiffin Public Schools for 10 years and was a 1966 graduate of the School of Opportunity.

He had been a laborer at Seneca Re-Ads Industries for 30 years.

His activities included: 10 years as a Boy Scout of Troop 463; Seneca Arrows Booster Club; a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel; and was a Cleveland Indians sports fan.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Church with the Rev. Leonard Kistler and the Rev. Ken Alt officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday. A rosary will be said at 9:45 a.m. Monday, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the School of Opportunity, Seneca Re-Ads.
