Ruth M. Winkler
Marathon Oil Co. group leader

Ruth M. Winkler, 82, of Fox Run Road, Findlay, died at her home at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday May 12, 1999.

She was born in Portage County, Nov. 4, 1916, to Charles and Susan (Gossman) Winkler.

Surviving are: a sister, Dorothy Winkler-Schafer of Findlay and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Lloyd, Ivan, Ralph and Leroy Winkler; and three sisters, Lillian Crane, Bessie Marquart and Kathryn Thompson.

Miss Winkler, a 1934 graduate of Rawson High School, retired in 1980 as a group leader in the computer department at Marathon Oil Co. in Findlay.

A member of Findlay Senior Citizens, she also attended Tiffin Business School.

Memorial services will be at a later date. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Anza F. Hammer
Tiffin homemaker

Anza F. Hammer, 82, of 133 Warren Ave., died at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 1999. She was born Sept. 1, 1916, to George C. and Marietta (Windland) Coull. On March 19, 1938, she married John T. Hammer I. He died Aug. 3, 1981.

Survivors include: a son, John T. Hammer II of Sycamore; two sisters, Lucredia Adams of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Joan Marie Hammer of Tiffin; three brothers, William F. Coull of Tiffin, George Coull of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Robert Coull of Lakemore, Ohio; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Robert Coull.

Mrs. Hammer was a homemaker and a member of the 99 Cottage Avenue Church of Christ and the Liberty Club.

The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at 99 Cottage Avenue Church of Christ. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery, where a private graveside service will be.

Visitation hours are 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given as a percentage to the family.

Kenneth Sherman Ernsberger
Retired Whirlpool employee

Kenneth Sherman Ernsberger, 69, of CR 212, Fremont, died Thursday, May 13, 1999. He was born exactly 69 years ago on the date of his death to Irvin and Mildred (Shreffler) Ernsberger, both deceased. On Sept. 10, 1955, he married Elsie Taylor, She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Bryan Ernsberger of Fremont, Kent Ernsberger of Clyde, Kevin Ernsberger of Gibsonburg and Kerry Ernsberger of Woodville; four daughters, Paulette Manahan of Middletown, Mrs. Peter (Jayne) Fantino of Fremont, Mrs. Kenneth (Kathy) Lowe of Woodville and Mrs. Jack (Dianna) Mesnard of Clyde; a brother, Don Ernsberger of Hatboro, Pa.; 26 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a step-great grandchild; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles Ernsberger, and a sister, Marietta Misner.

Mr. Ernsberger was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He worked as a paint-mix operator for the Clyde Whirlpool Corp., retiring June 30, 1992. He was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Fremont.

The Rev. Meg Knape and the Rev. Rod Shaull of St. Mark's church will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Butternut Ridge cemetery.

Visitation hours are 3-5 and 7-9 today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Sandusky County Hospice and/or St. mark's Lutheran Church.

Hilda V. Good
Former Fostoria resident

Hilda V. Good, 88, formerly of Elm St., Fostoria, died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Mannor Care Nursing Home in Kankakee, Ill. She was born July 7, 1910, in Bascom to Albert and Alice (Miller) Creeger. On Aug. 28, 1935, she married Walter S. Good. He died March 6, 1959.

Survivors include: a daughter, Carol Echevarria of Bourbonnais, Ill.; a sister, Mary Hade of Toledo; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; a son, Thomas Good; five brothers, Gilbert, Karl, Delphin, Loren and Allen Creeger; and three sisters, Odessa Creeger, LaDora Drew and Thelma Myers.

Mrs. Good was a 1928 graduate of Tiffin High School, and a homemaker. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Fostoria, Fidelia Class and Church Quilters Club.

The Rev. Lucinda Hunter will officiate the 11:30 a.m. Monday, service at the Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation hours are from two hours prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Grace United Church of Christ.

Carl W. Schubert
Retired farmer

Carl W. Schubert, 79, of Alvada died at 9 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at the Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1920, to Samuel H. and Dorothy (Snyder) Schubert in Biglick Township, Hancock County. He married Helen M. Martin March 20, 1940, in Marietta. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Samuel L. of Bellevue, Robert C. of Bismark, N.D., and Edwin R. of Sparta, N.J.; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fannie Peebles of Edgerton, Pauline Diebley and Esther Cole, both of Alvada. A sister, Martha Darst, preceded him in death.

He graduated in 1938 from Arcadia High School and was a self-employed farmer all his life, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the West Independence United Methodist Church; a member of the Corner Stone Sunday School Class; a former member of the administrative board of the church; and a member of the Seneca County Farm Bureau.

The Rev. Jeff Raker and the Rev. Allen Sanford will officiate at the service at 11 a.m. Monday, at the West Independence United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Union cemetery in West Independence.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Memorials may be made to the West Independence United Methodist Church or to the Gideons.

Dorothy F. Rainwater
Fostoria homemaker

Dorothy F. Rainwater, 82, 1313 South Drive, Fostoria, died at 8:05 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.

She was born in Atlanta, Ga, Jan. 30, 1917, to Henry and Frances (Causey) Fisher.

She is survived by a daughter, Gail Sanders, of Fostoria; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Three brothers and seven sisters preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Westview cemetery in Atlanta, Ga.

There will be no visitation. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.

Donald Henry Karg
World War II veteran

Donald Henry Karg, 76, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at his residence on West Main Street in Burgoon.

He was born June 9, 1922, to Fred and Hazel (Vent) Karg in Wyandot County.

On Nov. 17, 1946, he married Wilma (Knauss) Karg. She survives.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Tony (Ronda J.) Singleton of Elk, Wash., and Radelle E. Karg of Fremont; four sons, Rodrick D. of Lansing, Mich., Reginald S. of Ottawa Lake, Mich., Randal of Medfield, Mass, and Ryan F. of Lindsay; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Harold Karg of Livingston, Texas; four sisters, Margaret Stoneburner of Westerville, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Gertensberger of Fremont, Mrs. Kenneth (Hazel) Linder of Bellevue and Nancy LaJeunne of California. A brother, Rodrick, preceded him in death.

A graduate of Old Fort High School in 1940, he was a World War II Army Air Corps tail gunner in the 8th Air Force on a B-17 and a former POW in Germany. He was an independent dealer and owner of Standard Oil and Mobil stations in Fremont, and then was a parts delivery man for C & W, Fremont.

He was a member of Burgoon United Methodist Church; on the church council; a Burgoon village councilman; long-time member of EX. POW, in which he had served as commander of the Maumee Valley Chapter; Fremont VFW and Gibsonburg American Legion; member of Masonic organizations including Brainard Lodge 336, past master; Fremont Chapter 64, past high priest; Fremont Council 64, past III master; Fremont Commandery 56, past commander, past deputy division commander; Knight York Cross of Honour; Firelands Council 94, Allied Masonic Degrees; Knight Masons of Ireland; Tall Ceders of Lebanon; Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests; Order of Corks; Order of the Bath; Grand College of Rites; and Scottish Rite-Valley of Toledo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Auxter-Groff Funeral Home in Bellevue, with the Rev. Martha Gross officiating. Military graveside service will be provided by the American Legion at the Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 6:45.

Memorials may be donated to either the Elevator Memorial Fund at the Burgoon United Methodist Church or to the Sandusky County Hospice.

Martha Jean Clouse
Former God's Lighthouse pastor

Martha Jean Clouse, 65, of Norris Drive in Clyde, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Providence Hospital in Sandusky.

A life-long resident of Clyde, Mrs. Clouse was born there Aug. 7, 1933, to Harry and Ruth (Pounds) Dayringer, who are both deceased.

She married Charles M. Clouse Sr. July 9, 1948.

Her husband survives along with four sons, James of Scotsdale, Ariz., Charles Jr., Robert and Troy, all of Clyde; two daughters, Linda Clouse of Newhall, Calif., and Mrs. Tivis (Barbara) Hamilton of Pikeville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Herman "Buzz" and Albert, both of Clyde.

She was educated in the Clyde schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, Clyde. She and her husband were previously pastors at God's Lighthouse in Tiffin.

Services for Mrs. Clouse will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde, with the Rev. Gene Paul officiating. Interment will be in the McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

M. Louise Tong
AlliedSignal retiree

M. Louise Tong, 64, 3204 CH 96, Carey, died 12:18 a.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus.

She was born May 20, 1934, in Marion County to James and Arline (Branch) Gregory, both deceased.

On April 8, 1955, she married Cecil G. Tong, who survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Donna Lee) Kessler of Carey; three grandchildren, Jason Mitten, Josh and Jenny Kessler; a brother, Edward Gregory of Marion; and a sister, Mrs. Rick (Linda) Sherer of Troy.

She graduated from Morral High School. After being employed at AlliedSignal in Fostoria for 27 years, she retired in 1994.

She was a former member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey.

The Rev. Buck Traylor will officiate at the funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home in Carey, with burial at the Zion Bloom cemetery near Vanlue.

Visiting hours will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wyandot County Heart Support Group, c/o Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316-1169 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joseph Snell III
Former Tiffin resident

Joseph Snell III, 77, of Oakleaf Village, Columbus, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. When living in Tiffin, he resided at 7 Clinton Ave.

Mr. Snell was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Hamlet, N.C., to Joseph Snell Jr. and Emily (Stevens) Snell.

He married Margaret Anders May 24, 1941, in Philadelphia. She is deceased.

Surviving are two sons: John Snell, Tiffin, and Joseph Snell IV of Westerville; a daughter, Gerry (Snell) Ringle of Westerville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian White of Holmes, Pa.

A brother and three sisters preceded him in death: Fred Snell, Gladys Howells, Alice Sterner and Blanche Murphy.

He was a retired construction plumber.

Mr. Snell was an Army Air Force World War II veteran; a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ; Local 50 Union-Toledo; and VFW.

The funeral will be officiated by the Rev. William Smith at 11 a.m. Monday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, followed by burial in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, American Cancer Society or Lupus Foundation.

John W. Post
Former Forest resident

John W. Post, 86, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 1999, in the Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He formerly resided at 308 Smith St., Forest, and had lived at the Fairhaven Health Care Community in Upper Sandusky since 1991.

He was born Oct. 21, 1912, to Oscar I. and Ida E. (Houser) Post in Hardin County.

He married Opal L. Parsell June 15, 1937 in LaRue. She survives.

Also surviving are: a son, John David Post, Titusville, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Linda Jane) Minko, Sana Anna, Calif.; three grandsons; a great-grandson; a brother, Norman O. Post, North Little Rock, Ark.; and foster family, Reva and Dick McVay of Findlay.

Mr. Post graduated from Forest High School in 1932.

He retired in 1977 from Oxy Chem-Durez Division in Kenton, after 22 years. He held a stationary boiler operator's license. He was a member of the Forest United Methodist Church; a member of the former Odd Fellow Lodge 394, Forest, which he served as financial secretary for 32 years; a member of the Melmore Odd Fellows Lodge 174; a former member of the Kenton Elks Lodge; an amateur radio operator; formerly served on the Forest Village Council; and served on the Hardin County Democratic Executive Committee and as a central committeeman.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday at the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be in the Patterson cemetery, Forest.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Fairhaven Health Care Community or to the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Health Foundation.

Lucas C. Summers
Stillborn infant

Lucas C. Summers, the stillborn son of Charles J. and Jamie L. (Bayles) Summers of 27 W. New Haven St., Bloomville, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin.

Also surviving are: a brother, Ethan J. Summers of Bloomville; a sister, Amanda Summers of Athens; maternal grandparents, James and Sue Bayles of Marion; paternal grandparents, Charles H. and Barbara Summers of Athens; maternal great-grandparents, John and Mary Taylor of Marion; maternal great-grandmother, Gladys Trafzer of Marion; and paternal great-grandmother, Betty Summers of Athens.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Catholic cemetery in Marion, with Father James Klima officiating.

The Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville, is in charge of arrangements.
