Resident of Fostoria

Marian Carr, 71, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria. She was a former resident of Rising Sun. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Frances Elizabeth Mohr
Republic native

Word has been received of the death of Frances Elizabeth Mohr, 86, of Fort Myers, Fla., who died Thursday, May 13, 1999.

She was born in Republic in 1912. Her husband, Willard Mohr, survives in Fort Myers.

Other survivors include: two sons, Norman and Paul Mohr, both of Fort Myers; a daughter, Janice, also of Fort Myers; a brother, Edward Harpster of Lexington, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A brother, Paul Harpster, and a great-granddaughter are deceased.

Mrs. Mohr, a lifetime member of the Palm Optimist Club, retired from the Lee County Schools after 11 years of service.

She had moved to the Fort Myers area in 1966 with her husband.

Services were Monday in the Kiser Funeral Home, Fort Myers, with the Rev. Leonard Anderson, pastor of Briarcliff Baptist Church, officiating.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Mohr's name to the Briarcliff Baptist Church, 1682 Briarcliff Road, Fort Myers, Fla. 33912 or the Republic United Church of Christ.

Morris Wayne Rosier
Retired farmer/mechanic

Lifelong Seneca County resident Morris Wayne Rosier, 76, died at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at his residence at 2808 W. TR 26, McCutchenville.

He was born July 24, 1922, in McCutchenville, to Wilmer T. and Cletus B. (Conaghan) Rosier. On June 6, 1942, in Tiffin, he married Jean Evelyn Pierce, who survives.

Survivors also include: a daughter, Carole J. Cook of Fostoria; a son, Dennis A. Rosier of New Riegel; a brother, Claris Rosier of Fostoria; and four grandchildren.

A sister is deceased.

Mr. Rosier, a Seneca Township Trustee for 13 years, was a retired farmer and mechanic. He also served on the McCutchenville Fire Department Board of Trustees for more than 20 years.

An airplane mechanic for three years with the 9th U.S. Air Force, stationed in Europe during World War II, he was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky and had been a member of New Riegel American Legion Post 354. He recently joined Upper Sandusky American Legion Post 225.

Also a member of the Flying Quail Club and the Pioneer Auto Club, his hobbies included motorcycles, flying and antique autos.

The Rev. Robert Gordon will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Friday service in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville, where military graveside services will be conducted by local military organizations.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Samuel F. Cornicelli Sr.
Father of Tiffin physician

Samuel F. Cornicelli Sr., 65, of 2293 Parkwood Drive N.W., Warren, died Friday, May 14, 1999, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph Health Center, following a traffic accident.

He was born Aug. 4, 1933, in Warren, to the late Anthony M. and Consiglia (Giordano) Cornicelli. His wife, Mildred "Millie" (Hlynny) Cornicelli, whom he married May 28, 1960, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Samuel F. Cornicelli Jr., M.D., of Tiffin and David A. Cornicelli of Oberlin; a daughter, Diane Cornicelli-Scott, M.D., of Mentor; three brothers, Michael A. Sr. and Matthew G. Sr. Cornicelli, both of Howland, and Joseph A. Cornicelli Sr. of Niles; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Cornicelli, a U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1998 from the General Motors assembly plant in Lordstown, where he had been employed as a supervisor of education and training, after 33 years of employment. He previously had worked at St. Joseph Riverside Hospital as director of personnel and public relations. He also had been the project director for St. Joseph's successful campaign fund in 1963-64.

A 1951 Warren G. Harding graduate and a 1961 graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in business and accounting, he also attended Kent State University.

He enjoyed golfing, astronomy, bird watching and family activities and was a member of St. Pius X Church and the Knights of Columbus 620. He also was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and had been the third baseman on the 1951 WGH baseball team that was the state runnerup.

Services were Tuesday in St. Pius X Church., with burial in All Souls cemetery.

The Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, Warren, was in charge of arrangements.

Sadie S. Nye
Tiffin homemaker

Sadie S. Nye, 84, 158 S. Sandusky St., died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.

She was born in Findlay, Feb. 18, 1915, to Edward and Mary (Ferrell) Newhart. Her husband, Amos C. Nye, died Dec. 19, 1971.

Survivors include: eight sons, Amos Carl Nye of Fostoria, Thomas L. Nye of Tiffin, Tim Brown of Findlay, Dave Parker of Lima, Jerry Stanfield of Findlay, Bob Foltz of Deshler, Richard Shaffer of Congress, Ariz. and Ray Marvin of Alvada; three daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Bonnie) Taylor of Tiffin, Mrs. Phil (Joann) Rogers of Findlay and Mrs. Joseph (Patricia) Salazar of Harlington, Texas; a sister, Jenny Abelle of Findlay; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Three step-daughters, Helen Daughenbaugh, Margaret Miller and Betty Nye, and two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Mrs. Nye, a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Tiffin, was a homemaker.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Jacob Yeager officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 9-11 a.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Marian K. Carr
AlliedSignal retiree

Marian K. Carr, 71, of 211 N. Luther St., Rising Sun, died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria.

She was born in Rising Sun Aug. 22, 1927, to Carl and Gladys (Shesely) Wells. Her husband, Harold R. Carr, died May 13, 1996.

Surviving are: a son, Larry E. Carr of Middletown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A brother, Kenneth O. Wells and three sisters, Pauline and Betty Wells and Lillian Woodland, are deceased.

Mrs. Carr retired in 1977 as an assembler at AlliedSignal, Fostoria, where she had been employed for 30 years.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Trinity Baptist cemetery, Findlay.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Seneca County Hospice, 182 St. Francis Ave., rear suite, Tiffin, Ohio 44883.

Hildred A. Riedel
Former Sycamore centenarian

Hildred A. Riedel,100, a former 6266 Road D, Leipsic and Sycamore resident, died at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1999, in Putnam Acres Nursing Home, Ottawa.

She was born in Seneca County March 11, 1899, to William and Lenora (Spitler) Stoner. On Sept. 24, 1917, she married Layton D. Riedel, who died Sept. 3, 1968.

Survivors include: two sons, Arnold and Donald Riedel, both of the Sycamore area; two daughters, Mrs. Guy (Karis) Schroeder of Leipsic and Mrs. Carl (Carol) Steinhauser of rural Tiffin; 30 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Roy and Marion Riedel; three daughters, Iris Riedel, Mrs. Helen Coffman and Mrs. Mary Ilene Sweiter; and a sister, Helen Stoner, are deceased

Mrs. Riedel, a homemaker, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, Sycamore American Legion Auxiliary 250 and the 40 and 8 Club.

The Rev. John Joseph will be the celebrant at the 9:30 a.m. Saturday Funeral Mass in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Sycamore. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.

Memorials may be made to the Putnam County Cancer Society, Putnam Acres Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.

Walter Mason Wylie
Retired Ford Motor employee

Walter Mason Wylie, 73, of Duane Street, Clyde, then Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, died Thursday, May 20, 1999, in Providence Hospital, Sandusky. He was born April 20, 1926, to Sterlin and Rhoda (Miller) Wylie. On Jan. 4, 1951, he married Nella Faye Bussell. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Thomas Wylie of Green Springs, Larry Wylie of Fremont and Gary Wylie of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Vickie) Maines of Republic and Mrs. Melvin (Cathy) Shell Jr. of Fremont; a brother, Pete Wylie of Middlesboro, Ky; three sisters, Daisy Wylie, Dora Centers and Minnie Ausmus, all from Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; and 15 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a grandson; an infant brother, Warner; two other brothers, Everett and Roscoe Wylie; and a sister, Thelma Wylie.

Mr. Wylie received his education from the Claiborne County Schools of Tennessee and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He lived in Clyde for more than 44 years, and worked for the Ford Motor Co. of Sandusky as a plastic operator, retiring in 1980. A member of the VFW in Sandusky, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and the Detroit Tigers.

The Rev. Paul Finney and the Rev. Lowell Peterson will officiate the 10 a.m., Monday service at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Military graveside service will be provided by the Clyde American Legion and Clyde VFW.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of NW Ohio, 3178 Republic Blvd., N. Toledo, OH 43615.

Gloria K. Maltese
Clyde resident

Gloria K. Maltese, 74, of West Buckeye St., Clyde, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at her residence. She was born April 8, 1925, to Ralph and Alice (Brugger) Lindsay Hoffman. On Nov. 9, 1947, she married Joseph J. Maltese. He died Nov. 9, 1998.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael J. Maltese of Fremont and Stephen R. Maltese of Clyde.

Preceding in death was a half brother, Ray Lindsay.

Mrs. Maltese was a 1943 Clyde High School graduate, she worked as a secretary for Clyde Porcelain Steel and later co-owned Joe's Cleaners of Clyde with her husband. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde.

The Rev. Jeff Newhaus will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday graveside service at the McPherson cemetery, Clyde

The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Visitation hours are 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Lucile B. Orwig
Former Seneca County resident

Lucile B. Orwig, 89, of Oak Harbor, died Thursday at Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor. She was born in Seneca County Dec. 13, 1909, to John and Clara (Boomershine) Stever. She married George D. Orwig May 29, 1931, at Fireside Reformed Church, Bellevue. He died May 4, 1985.

Surviving are: a son, Delbert Orwig of Vermilion; a daughter, Shirley McNutt of Oak Harbor; a foster brother, Melvin Rinker of Tiffin; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Catherine Swander.

She was an Oak Harbor resident since 1947 and retired as an employee of the Gordon Lumber Co. of Oak Harbor. She was an active member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a past president of the Afternoon Guild and past president of the Women's Fellowship. Mrs. Orwig was also a member and past president of the County Culture Club of Oak Harbor and member of William Myers Chapter 196, Order of the Eastern Star, McCutchenville.

The Rev. Roddy Dunkerson will officiate the 11 a.m., Monday service at the Crosser Funeral Home, 301 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor. Burial will be at Union cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Visitation hours will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 2-4 and 7-9.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Maude I. Opper
Homemaker and farm owner

Maude I. Opper, 103, formerly of Mifflin Township,. Wyandot County, recently of Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999. She was born Oct. 3, 1895, to Levi and Emma (Saxton) Lawmaster. On March 15, 1946, she married Wm. Bryan Opper. He died June 23, 1976.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were four sisters and five brothers.

The Rev. John Hoover will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday graveside service at the Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Friends may call at the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home at 10 a.m., one hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Nursing Home.

Frank D. Horvay
Retired Heidelberg professor

Frank D. Horvay, 82, 192 St. Francis Ave., Villa 17, died at 3:45 a.m., Friday, May 21, 1999, at Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor, where he had been a patient since January 1999.

Mr. Horvay was born July 2, 1916, in Budapest, Hungary, to Gyula Horvay and Rozsi (Rose) Pollak.

On July 31, 1944, he married Vlasta Vesely in Chicago, and she is deceased.

Surviving are: two daughters, Linda (Horvay) Barnes of Lexington, Kent. and Vicki (Horvay) Nighswander of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren; and a brother, Ben Horvay, from Isle of Palms, S.C.

Three brothers and a sister, Susie, are deceased.

He was a graduate of the University of Alabama with bachelor's and master's degrees and received a doctorate from Washington University of St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. Horvay entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in France and Germany; commissioned first lieutenant in 1950; completed Army Intelligence Officer Career Course in 1965; and retired from active reserve in 1976 as a lieutenant colonel. He was also retired from Heidelberg College as professor of German. He was a former member and chairman of Zoning Appeals Board; Tiffin Rotary Club; listed in "Who's Who in America" publication in 1966; member of Modern Language Association; American Association of Teachers of German; American-Hungary Educators' Association; and American Council for the Study of Austrian Literature.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin, with burial in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be made to Arbor Hospice, Mich., or the St. Francis Home.
