Maxine Wolford
Retired sales clerk

Maxine Wolford, 83, of Saline Mich., formerly of 307 E. Seventh St., Sycamore, died at 6 a.m. Monday June 7, 1999, in Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born in Sycamore, May 17, 1916, to D. Wade and Clara (Montz) Curlis. On Aug. 20, 1938, she married Edgar T. Wolford, who died Jan. 6, 1993.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Wolford of Saline and Steven Wolford of Tecumseh, Mich.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ida Mae Smith of Tiffin.

A son, Richard Wolford; a brother, Vincent Curlis; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Von Blon, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wolford, a 1934 graduate of Sycamore High School, retired as a sales clerk from the former Ames Department Store in Sycamore

She was a former member of the Sycamore Bridge Club and a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church, its Dorcas Sunday School Class, its Women's Society of Christian Service, where she had served as past treasurer, and former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

The Rev. Van Fisher will conduct the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Sycamore United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. The body also will lie in state at the church 10-11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the church, Mohawk Community Library or the donor's choice.

David Lee Sines
Brother of Tiffin resident

David Lee Sines, 46, a resident of Alvordton, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, as the result of a train-car accident in Alvordton.

He was born Oct. 27, 1952, in Saudersville, Ky., to Mildred (Laney) and Cleo I. Sines I. On Jan. 5, 1999, he married Samantha Smith. She survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Michelle Sines of Alvordton and Tonya of Brooksville, Fla.; two brothers, Cleo Sines of Tiffin and Ralph Sines of New Mexico; two half brothers, Crawford Shumate of Waldron, Mich., and Ralph Priest; two sisters, Cherie Meyer and Linda Spence, both of Toledo; three grandchildren; and his stepfather, George Steininger.

An infant son, David Sines Jr., preceded him in death.

Mr. Sines, a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Vietnam Era, was employed with Schmitt's Produce, Alvordton.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. today in the Hollingshead Funeral Home, 202 N. Liberty St., West Unity, with the Rev. Douglas Sarver officiating. Interment will be in the Medina cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Donna LaVonne Niedermier
New Washington resident

Donna LaVonne Niedermier, 66, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at her home on Park Street, New Washington, following a long illness.

She was born in Nova Oct. 3, 1932, to the late Harold Richard and Audrey Victoria (Martin) Bechtel. Her husband, Charles Niedermier, whom she married Feb. 4, 1956, survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Kevin Niedermier of South Euclid and Joseph Niedermier of New Washington; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Annette) Sanders of Willard; a grandson, Evan Niedermier; and several aunts and cousins.

Mrs. Niedermier, a graduate of both Nova High School and Gradwohl School, St. Louis, Mo., was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington, and its Rosary Altar Society.

She also was a member of the Ohio Historical Society.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Bernard Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Dendinger officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Secor Funeral Home, New Washington, where a prayer service will be at 8:45.

Memorials may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research, in care of the Secor Funeral Home, 414 E. Main St., New Washington, OH 44854.

Ralph H. Cook
Past owner of Cook's Food Center

Ralph H. Cook, 69, of 129 First Ave. died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Mansfield General Hospital.

Mr. Cook was born in Bascom March 25, 1930, to Gilbert and Charlotte (Helfrick) Cook. On Nov. 27, 1955, he married Edna M. Bishop in Tiffin. She survives, as do two sons, Mark A. of Tiffin and Douglas E. of Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death as did a son, Donald Gilbert in 1973; five brothers: Russell, Ernie, Bob, Clarence and Dale.

He graduated from Republic High School; attended Heidelberg College; worked at Cook's Food Center for 43 years, of which 21 years he was the owner; Lions Club President 1983-1984; Lion Tamer 1980-1981; V.F.W. Tiffin Post 2858; American Legion Post 169; was of the Protestant faith; and a car enthusiast. Mr. Cook served in Germany and Paris in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Mark Bishop will officiate at the service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Friday. Military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. The Lions Club will meet in body at 7.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Dialysis, Ltd., Tiffin Lions Club, American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Earl E. Irons
Ashland Oil Co. retiree

Earl E. Irons, 87, of 1643 Imperial Lane, Findlay, died at 10:21 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Mentor June 17, 1911, to Blaine and Elizabeth (Steele) Irons. He married Laverne E. Michell June 20, 1936.

His wife survives along with three sons: Richard E. and Robert A., both of Findlay; James M. of Perrysburg; and four grandchildren.

He was employed for 42 years with Ashland Oil Co., where he retired in 1976. He was also co-owner of Magic Auto Glass in Findlay.

Mr. Irons was a member of First Presbyterian Church, which he served as both a deacon and elder; member of Findlay Country Club; and a 46-year member of the Findlay Rotary Club, of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dean Carzoo officiating, followed by burial at the Maple Grove cemetery.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the Kirpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home.

Irene J. Zickefoose
Tiffin resident

Irene J. Zickefoose, 82, formerly of 33 Coe St., died at 1:39 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999, in the emergency room at the Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She had been a resident of the St. Catherine Care Center, Tiffin.

She was born May 12, 1917, in Seneca County to Phillip and Anna (Studer) Falter. She married Odin Zickefoose. He died in 1964.

Mrs. Zickefoose is survived by a son Odin Joseph of Tiffin; three sisters, Marie Willacker and Dorothy Alt, both of Mansfield, and Bernice Dornbirer of Broken Sword.

Three brothers and two sisters are deceased.

She was a graduate of Bloomville High School, worked as a laundress at the D.A.V. and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

A memorial service and burial will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William J. Miller
Union Carbide retiree

William J. Miller, 91, of 7495 N. TR 63, Fostoria, died at 4:35 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

He was born in Mount Savage, Md., June 24, 1907, to Charles B. and Blanche (Lehman) Miller.

He married Verlee Rossman June 14, 1934. She died Oct. 20, 1935. He married Mae V. Conway July 5, 1937. She died Jan. 18, 1994.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Buss (Mary Kathryn) Grovesof Tiffin and Mrs. Gerry (Bonnie) Omlor of Fostoria; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a son, Joseph, at birth; two sisters, Gerry Seever and Alice Comer; two brothers, Thomas and Bernard Miller.

He retired in 1970 from Union Carbide, Fostoria, after 44 years. He was a member of the St. Wendelin Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 1197, Fostoria; and AARP.

The funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with burial being in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. There will be a Christian wake service at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, and a rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to either Seneca County Cancer Society or St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

Daniel M. Patterson
Former Fostoria resident

Daniel M. Patterson, 71, of San Diego, Calif., died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at his residence.

He was born March 26, 1928, in Fostoria to Michael and Stella (Huth) Patterson.

Survivors include: a daughter, Jane Marie Lavoie of Victoria, British Columbia; three sons, Michael, Dr. Thomas E. and Daniel M. Jr., all of San Diego; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Cassidy of South Charleston.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, John and Arthur; and a sister, Margaret J. Dell.

Mr. Patterson retired from the Consumer Credit Industry, Finance Companies; was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Poway, Calif.; a former member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; and a U.S. Navy veteran.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Wendelin Catholic Church with burial following in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation will be at 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Spencer J. 'Benny' Stewart
Tiffin resident's father

Spencer J. "Benny" Stewart, 82, of Genoa died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, in St. Charles-Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio.

He was born Oct. 15, 1916, in Genoa to Rowland L. and Zelda (Bloomfield) Stewart. On Aug. 31, 1940, he married Elinor E. Welling in Woodville. She died April 6, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen A. (David) Culp, Tiffin; a son, Dr. James S. (Vicki) Stewart of Sudbury, Ont.; and four grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a sister, Lela Mae Lewis; and a special aunt, Daisy Moore, who helped raise him after his mother's death.

Mr. Stewart worked 39 years as a machine shop foreman for Toledo Edison, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville; Masonic Lodge 433 F & AM, Genoa, of which he was past master; Gertrude Chapter Order of Eastern Star, of which he was past patron; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; Past High Priest Oak Harbor Chapter 162 Royal Arch Masons; Past Master Genoa Lodge; and a 50-year Mason.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Solomon Lutheran Church at Woodville with interment following in Clay Township cemetery, Genoa.

Visitation will be at 2-9 p.m. today in the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Genoa, with the family present at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a Masonic service in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. today. Memorials may be given to Solomon Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Grove F. Terwilliger
Green Springs frequent visitor

Grove F. Terwilliger, 80, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, in Nebraska City, Neb. He was a frequent visitor in the Green Springs area, having many friends and relatives in that area.

Mr. Terwilliger was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Toledo to Carl and Alice (Schroeder) Terwilliger. In 1928 the family moved to Nebraska City where he attended school.

Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Barry (Elizabeth) Bayshore, Susan Pollex, both of Maumee, Mrs. Michael (Nancy) Roth of Delta; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and loving companion, Charlotte Bohl of Nebraska City.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen "Nan" (Walker-Wade) whom he married April 23, 1948; sister, Irene Nye; and a granddaughter.

Mr. Terwilliger was a World War II veteran. He was a pharmacist and owned and operated Grove's Drug Store in Rossford for 30 years. He then worked for Foodtown Pharmacies until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Ohio Pharmacutical Association, the Toledo Drug Club and Toledo Zoological Society.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home in Toledo with a memorial service following at 7 that evening.

Lucille M. Hatfield
Fostoria homemaker

Lucille M. Hatfield, 88, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria died at 9:45 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born June 30, 1909, in Bloomdale to Issac and Flo (Brooks) Baird. In 1948 she married Nathan C. Hatfield in Angola, Ind. He died in 1951.

Surviving family includes: a son, Robert Baird of Bowling Green; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Hamm of Fostoria and Betty Sprout of Findlay.

Other family members preceding her in death were: two brothers, Vincent and Issac Baird, and a sister, Jeanette Biard.

She graduated in 1927 from Bloomdale High School and was a homemaker.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is handling the arrangements.
