Howard F. Kagy
Lifelong farmer

Howard F. Kagy, 90, of 9060 E. TR 58, Bloomville died Thursday, June 10, 1999, in Med Central Mansfield Hospital after being admitted there the previous day.

Mr. Kagy was born July 13, 1908, in Bloom Township to Marcus and Ida (Hartschuh) Kagy. On Feb. 14, 1937, he married Winona (Loyer) Kagy. She died Feb. 3, 1961.

Survivors include: a son, Ronald of Bloomville; a daughter, Marvel Jean Riley of Naperville, Ill.; five grandsons; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard and Nelson of Bloomville and Raymond of Copley; and a special friend, Esther Riley.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Kagy; and a sister, Mabel L. Kilper.

Mr. Kagy graduated in 1927 from Bloom Township High School, was raised in the Bloomville area and was a lifelong farmer and a retired livestock hauler. He was a Bloom Township. trustee for 30 years; a 40-year member of the Bloom Community Grange; an avid bowler and dartball player in the Seneca County Grange League for many years; and a Cleveland Indians fan who rarely missed watching a game.

Services for Mr. Kagy will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be at 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Max Joseph McGough
Stillborn infant

Thomas and Heather (Keefer) McGough, Kansas, are the parents of Max Joseph McGough, a stillborn infant, born 6:35 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 1999, at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.

He is survived by a brother, T. J. McGough; a sister, Katelyn McGough, both at home; maternal grandparents, Keith and Linda Keefer of Fostoria; paternal grandparents, Bill and Carol McGough of Gibsonburg; maternal great-grandparent, Lydia Keefer of Mantua; and paternal great-grandparents, Ruth McGough of Fostoria and Evelyn Sheeter of Tiffin.

A private service will be conducted at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in the Trinity cemetery, Risingsun.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Herbert S. Damschroder
Retired National Machinery worker

Herbert S. Damschroder, 85, of 1421 N. SR 18, died at the Bellevue Hospital after a brief illness Thursday, June 10, 1999.

He was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Elmore, to John R. and Antonie (Wangrin) Damschroder. On April 22, 1938, in Rocky Ridge, he married Marie Sandrock, who survives.

Also surviving are: a son, John A. Damschroder of Attica; a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Karen) Carpenter of Attica; a brother, Gilbert Damschroder of Graytown; two sisters, Betty Irwin and Lucille Damschroder, both of Georgia; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Mr. Damschroder was a farmer and had worked at the Multiplex Corp. in Elmore for many years. He also worked at National Machinery for several years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Thom Kalb will be officiating the family memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home in Bloomville. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica United Methodist Church or to the Williston Home of Mercy in Williston.

John Howard McElheny
Tiffin native

Word has been received of the death of John Howard McElheny of New York., who died Thursday June 10, 1999. He was born on a farm near Tiffin and converted his one-room schoolhouse education into a degree from Heidelberg College in 1929.

His wife of 65 years, Marguerite (Diederick) McElheny, is deceased.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara McGuffey of Schenectady, N.Y. and Lois Livingstone of South Hempstead, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

Immediately following graduation he began a career with the New York Telephone Company that spanned a period of 43 years until his retirement as assistant vice president in 1972.

Mr. McElheny, involved in many community and church activities, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jamica, N.Y., where he served as general superintendent of the Sunday School and as an elder and deacon.

He also served on the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater New York, where he held an active membership for 67 years and had been appointed to the New York State Health Advisory Council.

He was president of the Upstate Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers as well as administrator for the state organization. He also spent 18 years working as a volunteer at Huntington Hospital, after moving to Huntington in 1967.

He had served as class agent for his college class since graduation maintaining correspondence throughout the years.

Services and visitation were in New York.

Charles J. Hannibal
Retired machinist

Charles J. Hannibal, 76, of 567 Eighth St., Upper Sanduysky, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday June 12, 1999, in Riverside Hospital, Columbus.

He was born May 29, 1923, in Vanceburg, Ky., to Charles Newton and Myrtle Lee (Gulley) Hannibal. On June 14, 1947, in Kentucky he married C. Alvetta Kight, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Cheryl) Elwood Jr. of Forest and Mrs. Stanton C. (Deanna J.) Swihart of Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; and three sisters, Mrs. Mildred L. Rhoden of Wharton, Mrs. William (Geneva M.) Wills of Greenup, Ky. and Mrs. Margie A. Bortfeld of Spring Valley, Calif.

Two infant sisters are deceased.

Mr. Hannibal, a retired machinist, worked at Daybrook Hydraulics in Upper Sandusky and also at Peabody Implant of Galion, retiring in 1985.

After his retirement he worked as a maintenance man for 10 years for St. Peter's Catholic School and Church, both of Upper Sandusky.

A World War II U.S. Army Infantry veteran, having served 1942-45, he was a member of the First Church of God, Upper Sandusky and American Legion Post 225.

He also enjoyed hunting, mushroom hunting, traveling, gardening, carpentry and bowling.

The Rev. Deloris Rayle and the Rev. Jack Townsend will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home Inc., Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military gravesides rites will be conducted by local service groups.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart and Lung Association.

Lelah Marie Brown
Old Fort native

Lelah Marie Brown, 84, of Marysville, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday June 12, 1999, in the Union Manor Nursing Home, Union County, Marysville

She was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Old Fort, to John and Sara (Stiger) Keim. Her husband, Edgar W. Brown, a 40 year Basic Inc. employee, whom she married Oct. 21, 1939, in Old Fort, is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Margaret K. "Peggy") Boroff of Marysville; two grandchildren, Becky Cassell of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Todd Boroff of Yarmouth, Maine; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were three brothers, William, Owen and Charles Keim.

Mrs. Brown, a homemaker, graduated from Old Fort High School in 1932.

A member of Old Fort United Methodist Church, she was very active in all functions of the church, especially in the children's department. She was widely known in the Old Fort area as a talented pianist.

Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home of Tiffin will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Jerry K. Wiles officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation at the funeral home is 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Helen M. Hall
Former Lindsey homemaker

Helen M. Hall, 93, formerly of 108 Williams St., Lindsey, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday June 12, 1999, in the Quality Care Nursing Home, Sandusky County, Fremont, where she had lived since May 1, 1997.

She was born in Republic, Nov. 14, 1905, the daughter of David G. and Minnie R. (Rachau) Smetzler. Her husband, Willard M. Hall, whom she married Sept. 26, 1928, in Green Springs, preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were a brother, Bruce L. Smetzler; two half-brothers, John Smetzler and Eveans Weaver; a sister, Orpha M. Weiker; and two half-sisters, Nellie M. McNeal and Anna V. Brown.

A homemaker, Mrs. Hall had formerly resided on the Clyde-Green Springs Road.

Services in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Spinrgs, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating. Interment will be in Bakertown cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Marcella C. Zellner
Lifelong Willard resident

Marcella C. Zellner, 74, of 370 E. Howard St., Willard, died Monday, June 14, 1999, in the Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard, following a long illness.

She was born in Norwich Township April 29, 1925, to Edward and Emma Zellner.

Survivors include two nieces, Christine Donnersbach of Shiloh and Beth Zellner of Willard; and an aunt and uncle.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, John and Leo Zellner; an uncle and a sister-in-law.

Mrs. Zellner, a lifelong Willard area resident, was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Bismark.

Services in St. Sebastian Catholic Church will be at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. William Hoying officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Secor Funeral Home, Willard, will be at 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Wilbert J. Holloway
Retired Autolite accountant

Wilbert J. Holloway, 86, died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in The Independence House, 1000 Independence Road, Fostoria, where he resided.

He was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Bucyrus, to Archibold L. Sr. and Kathryn C. (Wilbert) Holloway. His wife of 52 years, Esther C. (Boyer) Holloway, whom he married July 27, 1934, in Fremont, died Sept. 26, 1986.

Surviving are a son, Mark W. Holloway of Montclair, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Mary Lee) Berry of North Ridgeville and Mrs. Susan Kline of Thornton, Colo.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A brother, Archibold L. Holloway Jr., also is deceased.

Mr. Holloway, a 57-year resident of Fostoria, retired in 1973, as an accountant, from Autolite/Ford Motors, where he had been employed for 30 years. He also was plant accountant under Autolite ownership.

He was active in the Autolite Credit Union for many years and in Junior Achievement.

A member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, he had attended the University of Michigan for two years.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to the Independence House, 1000 Independence Ave., Fostoria, OH 44830.

Mary Claire Uhls
Retired physician's office employee

Mary Claire Uhls, 87, of 300 Highland Parkway, Upper Sandusky, died at 8:50 p.m. Monday, June 14, 1999, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

She was born in Cincinnati July 3, 1911, to Louis Ollie and Nellie (McFadden) Hetz. In January 1935, she married Nolan B. Uhls, who died Dec. 3, 1944.

Survivors include: a son, Ronald N. Uhls Sr. of Canal Winchester; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Seibert of Cincinnati; and a brother, Hank Hetz, also of Cincinnati.

A daughter, Judith A. Smith; three brothers and a sister, are deceased.

Mrs. Uhls, a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, retired in 1972, after working in a doctor's office in Upper Sandusky.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Holmer as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, 445 Foley Road, Cincinnati.

Visitation is at 4-8 p.m. today at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, where a Christian wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frank E. Hanna
Retired assistant school superintendent

Frank E. Hanna, 79, of Lima, died Tuesday morning, June 15, 1999, at his residence in Lima.

He was born in Cleveland Aug. 12, 1919, to Frank Sr. and Rose (Plantner) Hanna. On Nov. 19, 1949, he married Anne E. Pennell, who survives.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Elizabeth R. Dale of Delaware, Ohio, Mrs. Larry (Patricia S.) Gross of Lima, Mrs. Richard (Mary M.) Daily of Dublin and Mrs. Matthew (Amy F.) Tewers of Northwood; a sister, Mrs. John (Ruth) Lenahan of Cleveland; and six grandchildren.

Two daughters, Catherine "Katie" and Judith Anne "Judy" Hanna, are deceased.

Mr. Hanna, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, during which he attained the rank of first sergeant in the 5th Air Corps Communication Division in the Phillipines and New Guinea, retired in 1977 as assistant superintendent of pupil services from the Lima City Schools.

He also served as the first guidance counselor at Lima Central Junior High School; was the first football coach at Lima Senior High School and the first principal for West Junior High School in Lima.

He received his bachelor's degree in 1941 from Baldwin-Wallace College and in 1951 received his master's degree from Case Western Reserve, where he had also worked on his doctorate.

In 1941,he played college football in the Ohio College All-Stars Football Tournament in the Cleveland Stadium.

A charter member of the Lima Breakfast Optimist Club and a member of the Allen County Mental Health Association, he served as the first executive director of the Severe Behavioral Handicap (SBH) Program. He also was a member of the National Education Association and a life member of the Retired Ohio Teachers Association.

Mr. Hanna was a member of BPOE 54, Lima, St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima; St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Naples, Fla.; Westside Swim and Racquet Club, Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 7948, Cridersville; a former member of the Serra Club, and a member of the Western Ohio Council for Educational and Behavioral Programs, which he served as executive director in 1977.

In 1955 he was named Football Coach of the Year for the G.O.L. (Greater Ohio League) and in 1956 he was the head football coach for the All Stars North/South Game.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Charles Catholic Church, Lima. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery, Lima.

Visitation will be at 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hogenkamp Rousculp Funeral Home, 900 W. Grand Ave., Lima, where a parish wake service will be at 8 and a Lodge of Sorrow service at 7:30.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, Oregon, Ohio; St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Building Fund, Naples, Fla. or St. Charles Catholic Church.
