Robert M. Eller
Tiffin native/retired truck driver

Robert M. Eller, 73, died at 11:20 a.m. Sunday July 4, 1999, at his home at 335 S. 29th St., Lafayette, Ind.

He was born in Tiffin, April 25, 1926, to William Charles and Laura (Taylor) Eller. His wife, Mary C. (Duffy) Eller, whom he married Nov. 23, 1948, in Lafayette, survives in Lafayette.

Survivors also include: two sons, James J. Eller of Minneapolis, Minn. and Robert C. Eller of Lafayette; two daughters, Kathleen A. Eller and Karen S. Hawn, both of Lafayette; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Marge) Flack of Frankfort, Ind.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Eller, who had attended the Tiffin Schools, retired in 1992 as a safe maker from Schwab Safe Co., where he had been employed for 19 years. He also worked for 25 years as a truck driver for Best Distributors.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving 1944-46, he was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, Lafayette.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Cathedral, with the Rev. Robert Klemme officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion.

Visitation at the Hahn Funeral Home, Lafayette, is 6-8 p.m. today, with a wake service at 6 p.m.

Sherman White
Gray and White Co. former owner/president

Sherman White, 98, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 1999, at his residence at 22 Herrick Court.

He was born in Clarinda, Iowa, Aug. 18, 1900, to Sherman and Ada (Pond) White. On Oct. 12, 1934, at the home of the bride, he married his wife of 64 years, Virginia (Hanson) White, who survives.

A sister, Mrs. Andrew (Evelyn) Underhill, is deceased.

Mr. White, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, was the retired former owner and president of the Gray and White Co. in Tiffin.

The oldest living member of the Mohawk Golf Club, where he had been a member since 1931, he attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Graveside services in Greenlawn cemetery will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Richard E. Mahlmann officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy J. Sanders
Bellevue homemaker

Dorothy J. Sanders, 69, of East Main Street, Bellevue, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland.

She was born in Elizabeth, W.Va., June 14, 1930, to the late John and Flossie (Woodring) Reed.

Survivors include: six children, Richard Sanders and Mrs. Robert (Kathie) Smith, both of Monroeville, Diane, Kim and Kelly Sanders and Mrs. Carl (Susan) Ezell, all of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Joanne) Holmes and Betty Brunn, both of Norwalk, Mrs. Bud (Nettie) Kaiser of Fremont and Mrs. Vic (Pat) Scherley of Republic; and two brothers, John and Bill Reed, both of Norwalk.

Mrs. Sanders, a homemaker, received her education in the Monroeville schools. She had lived in the Bellevue area for 30 years.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Auxter-Groff Funeral Home, Bellevue. Interment will be in the Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday until time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Martha A. (Barney) Rhoads
Former Fremont homemaker/farm wife

Martha A. (Barney) Rhoads, 82, formerly of Park Avenue, Fremont, died Monday, July 5, 1999, in the Countryside Continuing Care Center.

She was born in Hillsboro, June 13, 1917, to Hiram and Clara (Thatcher) Barney. On Oct. 4, 1937, in Hillsboro, she married Chester Rhoads, who died July 17, 1985.

Surviving are: two sons, Robert J. Rhoads of Fremont and Rick Rhoads of Hillsboro; seven daughters, Betty Peck and Ruth Floriana, both of Fremont, Mary Barron of Indiana, Patty Floriana Of Oak Harbor, Barbara Minet of Indiana, Susie McCoy of Clyde and Debbie McCoy, also of Indiana; two sisters, Bertha Penell of Columbus and Mary Parker of Hillsboro; 37 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Tiny Sales.

Three sons, Truman, Scott and Charles Rhoads; a daughter, Judy; two sisters, Clara Belle Dalton and Geneva Rhoads; and four brothers, Abraham, Mose, William and Elijah, are deceased.

Mrs. Rhoads, a homemaker and farm wife, also worked for the Fremont Kraut Co.

She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Clyde.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, with the Rev. Paul Finney officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the family or a charity of the donor's choice.

Carl Clayton Leroy Smith
Former 40-year Tiffin resident

Carl Clayton Leroy Smith, 74, of 310 Marian Ave., Bellevue, Neb., formerly of Tiffin, died Tuesday evening, June 29, 1999, at his residence. He was born March 26, 1925, in Fremont to Leo and Helen (Ross) Smith; both preceded him in death. On April 26, 1947, he married Virginia Rose Peltier in St. Ann's Church, Fremont. She died August 11, 1994.

Surviving are: three sons, Michael G. Smith of Streetsboro, William A. Smith of Mansfield and Thomas A. Smith of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. David (Mary L.) Morris of Bellevue, Neb. and Mrs Brian (Laura J.) Zeiter of Hilliard; a brother, Leo Smith of Fremont; a sister Rosella Colatruglio of Tiffin; and thirteen grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death was an infant brother.

Mr. Smith was a tool grinder in Tiffin prior to his retirement. He recently moved to Nebraska to live with his daughter, Mary. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and listening to music.

His body has been donated to the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. Memorials may be made to the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department, 211 West 22nd Ave., Bellevue, NE 68005 or KVNO Classical Radio, 60th at Dodge, Omaha, NE 68182.

Edward E. Rock
Retired laborer

Edward E. Rock, 74, of 924 McDougal St., Fostoria, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

He was born in Fostoria, July 25, 1924, to Harry A. and Lillian (Meyers) Rock. His wife, Betty A. (Gonyer) Rock, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: three sons, Edward L. and Larry W. Rock, both of Fostoria and Harry E. Rock of North Baltimore; three daughters, Carolyn Rumschlag of Tiffin, Debbie Shelton of Germany and Tammy Aspell of Jefferson City, Tenn.; a brother, Harvey Rock of Fostoria; 25 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rock has been employed as a laborer.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Liberty cemetery, Liberty Township, with Pastor Steven Stover officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Richard A. Blechinger
National Electric Carbon laborer

Richard A. Blechinger, 50, of 821 E. Findlay St., Carey, died in the Eaglewood Care Center, Carey, at 5:05 a.m. Friday, July 3, 1999.

He was born in New Riegel, July 1, 1949, the son of the late Virgil and Marilyn (Staley) Blechinger. He was formerly married to Mary Sherman.

Survivors include: a son, Richard A. Blechinger Jr. of Fostoria; three brothers, Joseph M. and Thomas L. Blechinger and James W. Wolford, all of Fostoria; and four sisters, Mary Blechinger and Sharon Lutes, both of Tiffin, Kathleen Gehring of Fostoria and Judy Beltz of Findlay.

A brother, Ronald Blechinger, also is deceased.

Mr. Blechinger, formerly of Sandusky Street, Fostoria, had been employed as a laborer for 32 years at the National Electric Carbon in Fostoria.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard E. 'Dick' Hemminger
Atlas retiree/oak woodworker

Richard E. "Dick" Hemminger, 59, died at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at his home at 5299 TR 93, New Riegel.

He was born in Seneca County Sept. 22, 1939, to Erlin R. and Pearl G. (Long) Hemminger. His mother survives in Fostoria. His wife, Annabelle M. (Kessler) Hemminger, whom he married Sept. 15, 1962, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, survives in New Riegel.

Other survivors include: a son, Larry A. Hemminger of New Riegel; two daughters, Mrs. Brad (Beverly) Mullholand and Mrs. Dennis (Brenda) Bouillon, both of Carey; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence Hemminger of New Riegel and Paul Hemminger of Fostoria.

A brother, Ronald Hemminger; and his father, are deceased.

Mr. Hemminger, a 1957 graduate of New Riegel High School, retired in 1992 from Atlas in Fostoria, after 30 years.

Also known for his oak woodworking hobby, he was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 872 and American Legion Post 354, all of New Riegel; and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.

The Rev. Leonard Kistler C.P.P.S. will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral Mass in St. Boniface Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be provided by New Riegel American Legion.

Visitation at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 2-9 p.m. Friday, where a Christian wake service will be at 4 p.m. and New Riegel American Legion memorial services at 6.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Seneca County, for Mass Intentions or a charity of the donor's choice.

Jean Agnes Peltier
Fostoria resident

A Memorial Mass for Jean Agnes Peltier, who died Saturday, June 19, 1999, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Schools Educational Foundation. The Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Dr. E. Harold Klingel
Retired UCC minister

The Rev. Dr. E. Harold Klingel, 95, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in the Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky, where he resided.

He was born in Marion April 16, 1904, to Charles W. and Caroline M. (Pfisch) Klingel. In 1937, he married Eva R. Grether, who died Dec. 20, 1983.

The last of his family, his survivors include nephews and nieces.

The Rev. Dr. Klingel, a graduate of Marion Harding High School, was a retired minister of the United Church of Christ, serving several parishes in Ohio.

He received his bachelor of arts degree from Heidelberg College, his theological bachelor of divinity degree from Hartford Seminary in Connecticut and attended the University of Geneva in Switzerland and the University of Berlin in Germany.

He also was employed for 10 years by the Civil Rights Commission of Ohio, retiring from that position in 1981. He also was a speaker for equal rights for the State of Ohio at universities in Ohio.

Also an agent for the Metropolitan Opera of Cleveland, his hobbies and interests included stamp collecting, the opera, classical music, architectural design and traveling, having traveled to 48 of the United States.

He attended Trinity United Church of Christ, Upper Sandusky, and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Columbus.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Fairhaven Health Care Community Chapel, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth and the Rev. Robert Klingel as co-officiants. Burial will be in Marion cemetery.

Visitation at the Fairhaven Chapel will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.

The Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.

Ella M. Plott
Homemaker/dietary department employee

Ella M. Plott, 99, of 13259 CR 58, Upper Sandusky, and a resident at Fairhaven Home since December 1997, died at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky. She was a longtime Mifflin Township resident.

She was born in Wyandot County, March 15, 1900, to John F. and Alice M. (Wentz) Gutermuth. On Sept. 10, 1924, in Upper Sandusky, she married Hershel A. Plott. He died May 6, 1945.

Survivors include: two sons, A. Eugene Plott of Harpster and Harold C. Plott of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Vera) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Isabelle Nagel, also of Upper Sandusky.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Allen; a brother, Eugene Gutermuth; and three sisters, Alma Bohlen, Selma Suber and Alice Putnam.

Mrs. Plott, a homemaker, also worked in the dietary department at Fairhaven Home for 13 years.

A member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, she enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, flower gardening and reading her Bible.

The Rev. Kevin Pees will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Wharton-Richland-Union cemetery, Wharton.

Visitation at the funeral home is 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Margaret Steel Hutson
Mother/grandmother of Tiffin residents

Word has been received of the death of Margaret Steel Hutson, 68, of Ritman, Ohio, formerly of London, Ohio, who died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Columbus, to Harry D. and Edith (Williams) Steel. Her husband, L. Clinton Hutson, whom she married Dec. 26, 1948, died in 1985.

Surviving are 14 children, Charlotte Craig of Pittsfield, Mass., Charlie Hutson of Milford Center, Mary Goode of McConnelsville, Cindy Neff of London, P.Joyce Eddie of Huntington, Ind., Carolyn Brigner of Rittman, Clint Hutson of West Jefferson, Gale Kernitz of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Levin Hutson of West Jefferson, David Hutson of London, Clark Hutson of Tiffin, Jonathan Hutson of Columbus, Jodi Hutson of Mechanicsburg and Bonnie Darlington of London; 24 grandchildren, including Erik Burris of Tiffin; a sister, Ruth Wengert of Luckey; and three nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, April Lynn Hutson.

Mrs. Hutson, a 1948 graduate of London High School, was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women and its choir. She also served as a Sunday school teacher 1964-92. She also was a member of the Madison County Farm Bureau, the Madison County Porkettes and enjoyed quilting with the Oak Grove Mennonite United Methodist Women.

Graveside services were July 2 in Paint Township cemetery, followed by a memorial service in Newport United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Beverly Hume and the Rev. Stanley A. Ward officiating.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Hutson's memory to the Newport United Methodist Church, 80 Center St., Southeast, London, OH 43140.
