Clayton L. Orr
Father of Tiffin resident

Clayton L. Orr, 78, formerly of Dogwood Circle, Apple Creek, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, in the Bronnfield Nursing Home, Orrville.

He was born in Apple Creek, Feb. 10, 1921, to Ross J. and Ethel M. (Hofacre) Orr. His wife of 50 years, Mabel M. (Schnell) Orr, died May 7, 1994.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. William (Susan) Bleyle of Tiffin and Mrs. Jim (Jan) Hughes of Wooster; two sons, Jim Orr of Apple Creek and Gary Orr of Hilliard; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, a step-grandchild; and five brothers and sisters, Delno D. Orr, Norma Jean Knoble, Alonzo D., William and Harlan R. Orr, all of Apple Creek.

Preceding him in death was a son, Steven Orr, who died in 1977.

Mr. Orr, a retired farmer, lived most of his life on the family farm on Lautenschlager Road in Apple Creek, which the Orr family had deeded to them in 1820. It was the first milking farm in Wayne County.

He was a member and elder at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Apple Creek; served as director on the Akron Milk Producers Board, was a 63-year member of East Union Grange and was employed as a school bus driver for Southeast Local School District for 20 years.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he also served as a board member at Hope Homes and was active with Meals on Wheels.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Roy V. Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Apple Creek cemetery.

Visitation at the church will be 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.

The McIntire, Davis and Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, is in charge of arrangements.

Virgil Risner
Retired millwright

Virgil Risner, 82, of 332 High St., Carey, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, in Winebrenner Village, Findlay.

He was born in Alger, Hardin County, June 10, 1917, to Boyd D. and Martha Risner. On Jan. 30, 1952, in Carey, he married Marion R. Patrick, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Paula) Blair and Mrs. James (Pamela) Stock Jr., both of Carey; three grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Risner of Carey, Curtis Risner of Tiffin and Louis Risner of Yuma, Ariz.; and a sister, Maxiene Risner of Carey.

A son, Timothy Virgil Risner and four brothers are deceased.

Mr. Risner, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1979 as a millwright from the Fostoria Foundry.

He was affiliated with the Pentecostal Church of God, Carey.

Services in the Pentecostal Church of God will be conducted by the Rev. Harold Bowling and the Rev. Bobby L. Turner at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, is 2-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Hospice.

Marjorie E. Holden
Former beauty shop owner

Marjorie E. Holden, 83, formerly of Carey, died at 6:42 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at the Elizabeth-Scott Memorial Care Center, Maumee. She was born Oct. 5, 1915, to Grover R. and Maude (Baublitz) Traxler. On Sept. 9, 1941, she married Clifford M. Holden. He died Jan. 26, 1971.

Survivors include: a son, Daniel C. Holden of Swanton; two sisters Maxine Robison of Wharton, and Grace Baker of Upper Sandusky; and a grandson, Eric Holden.

Preceding her in death were: a grandson, Aaron Holden; a sister, Barbara Traxler-Plott; and two brothers, Richard and Fred Traxler.

Mrs. Holden was the owner/operator of the Town and Country Beauty Shop. A 50-year member of the United Methodist Church, Carey; the United Methodist Women; past member of the Administrative Council, and 50-year member of the Cosmetology Association.

The Pastor James R. Sharrett will officiate the 2 p.m. Saturday service at Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be at Patterson cemetery, Patterson, Ohio.

Visitation hours are 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church.

James E. 'Butch' Johnson Jr.
Burgoon resident

James E. "Butch" Johnson Jr., 29, of Burgoon and recently of Georgetown, Ky., died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, in Burgoon. He was born June 18, 1971, in Toledo to Mr. and Mrs. James E. (Gloria Hammond) Johnson. He married Loretta Woodall March 12, 1991, in Gibsonburg. She survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Brandon, James and Brian Johnson, all at home; six brothers, Ed and Howard Johnson, both of Michigan, Dewey J. Johnson of Attica, Larry E. Johnson of Lagoote, Ind., Brian K. Johnson of Fremont and Randy Johnson of Burgoon; five sisters, Tammy Wilson of Fremont, Grace Johnson of Oceola, Robin Coe of Fremont, Lataya Cannon of North Carolina and Mandy Johnson of Burgoon; stepmother, Joyce A. Johnson of Burgoon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Johnson worked as a cook at Derick's Sports Bar in Fremont and also was employed at The Fremont Village Apartments Complex. He enjoyed building autos, designing tattoos and drawing.

Friends will be received at Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde, from noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. Saturtday. Pastor William Owens will be officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde. The family requests a donation be made through the funeral home for the care of his children.

Arrangements previously announced with Engle Funeral Home, Bettsville, have been changed to Foos-Klein Funeral Home.

Clayton 'Woody' Watkins
Jackson Township farmer

Clayton "Woody" Watkins, 81, of W. Jackson TR 172, Fostoria, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at the Medical College of Ohio Hospital in Toledo.

He was born March 9, 1918, near Deweyville in Hancock County to Chell E. and Bernice G. (Gibson) Watkins. On March 15, 1941, in Napoleon he married Evelyn M. Rinebold. She survives.

Also surviving are: three sons, Tommie A. of Helena, Ronald K. of Fostoria and Gary J. of Port Clinton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leo of Fostoria, Dalton of Tiffin and Bill of Bettsville.

Preceding him in death were brothers Otis and Jim, and sister Edna Brandeberry.

In addition to being a farmer most of his life, he worked at Allied Automotive Corp. (now Allied Signal Corp.) for 28 years, retiring in 1980.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Robert D. Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in the Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard J. Kaye
Area residents' brother

Richard J. Kaye, 52, of Bradenton, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at I.H.S. Braden River, Fla.

He was born Nov. 29, 1946, in Battle Creek, Mich. He moved to Manatee County, Fla. in 1970.

Surviving are a son, Richard C. Robich of Bradenton; three sisters, Marianne Heine of Delton, Mich., Nancy Ohler of Republic and Arnolene (Jean) Harrington of Tiffin.

He was a painter and his religious affiliation was with the Suncoast Harvest Center.

Services will be at a later date.

The Covell Cremation and Funeral Center in Bradenton, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene H. Hoover
Retired Seislove Vault Co. employee

Eugene H. Hoover, 69, of 2801 W. US 224, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, in his home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Patricks Church, Bascom.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Other arrangements are pending.

Eugene H. Hoover
Seislove Vault Co. retiree

Eugene H. Hoover, 69, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at his home at 2801 W. U.S. 224.

He was born in Tiffin, Aug. 1, 1930, to the late Daryl and Viola (Scherger) Hoover. His wife, Vonda (Hoffman) Hoover, whom he married Oct. 9, 1954, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Randall Hoover of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Elaine) Leaver and Diana Hoover, both of Tiffin; two grandsons, Jason and Andrew; and a brother, Wayne Hoover of Bascom.

Mr. Hoover, a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, retired from Seislove Burial Vaults and Septic Tanks, where he had been employed for 45 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, New Riegel American Legion Post 354 and Tiffin VFW Post 2858. He also was active in Boy Scouting.

The Rev. David Bruning will be the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by New Riegel American Legion Post 354.

Visitation at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, where New Riegel American Legion services will be at 8 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, the church, Hopewell-Loudon School or a charity of the donor's choice.

Benjamin J. Ross
Father of Tiffin resident

Benjamin J. Ross, 76, of Marion, died at 3:53 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, in Marion General Hospital.

He was born July 13, 1923, in Waldo, to Dr. Joseph and Edith V. (Cook) Ross. On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Donna M. Lilley, who survives in Richmond, Ind.

Survivors also include: two sons, Larry E. Ross of Marion and John P. Ross of Tiffin; two brothers, John Scott of Bellflower, Ill. and Harold Ross of Peoria, Ariz.; and a grandchild.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Daniel Robert and James Ross; and a sister, Mary Louise McQuiston.

Mr. Ross, known as "Uncle Fuzz" to several nieces and nephews, was employed as a maintenance engineer at Marion Power Shovel for 31 years. He also worked for the New York Central Roadroad for 13 years.

A life-long Marion area resident, he was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and a former member of the Marion FOPA.

Services in the Boyd Funeral Home, Marion, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. David Cottrell officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Raymond J. Hoepf
Tiffin native

Raymond J. Hoepf, 79, of 800 Logan Road, Mansfield, died Sunday morning, Aug. 22, 1999, in MedCentral/Mansfield.

He was born in Tiffin, Aug. 11, 1920, to William and Teresa (Michaels) Hoepf.

Survivors include: two sisters, Mrs. Leo (Edna) Depinet of Tiffin and Mrs. Bud (Agnus) Omler of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Jack Hoepf of Wellington; a nephew and a great nephew and niece.

Mr. Hoepf, who attended the Fellowship Baptist Church, Mansfield, had worked at the former Tiffin Glass House.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Downtown Chapel of Werner Funeral Home, 175 W. 3rd St., Mansfield, with the Rev. Randy Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Earl J. 'Bud' Stull
ExCell Wire retiree

Earl J. "Bud" Stull, 74, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at his residence at 4482 S. TR 17.

He was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Ritchie County, Pennsboro, W.Va., to William A. and Birdie (Lamp) Stull. His wife, Irene M. (Dotson) Stull, whom he married Oct. 4, 1946, in Smithburg, W.Va., survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, E. Dennis and W. Bruce Stull, both of rural Tiffin and Lewis D. Stull of Fremont; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Stull of Pennsboro; and three sisters, Esta Whitehair of Parkersburg, W.Va., Mary Cross of West Union, W.Va. and Ora Spicer of Salem.

Formerly of West Union, W.Va., he had resided in the Tiffin area since the 1950s.

Mr. Stull retired from the ExCell Wire after more than 20 years of service.

The Rev. Robert B. Church will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service on Tuesday morning.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care.

Mary A. Dowdy
Cooper Products retiree

Mary A. Dowdy, 66, of East Tiffin Street, Fostoria, died at 11:02 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born April 2, 1933, in Tiffin, to Robert C. and Gertrude A. (Wise) Morehart. Her mother, now Gertrude A. Schatzinger, survives in Gibsonburg. She first married Charles Warf in 1955, and they were divorced. Her second husband, Harold E. Dowdy, whom she married Aug. 22, 1975, in Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Charles Warf Jr. of St. Clairsville and Boyd Warf of Marion; a daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Anna) Smith of Sycamore; a step-son, Joseph Dowdy of California; three brothers, Charles E. Morehart of Bucyrus, Samuel E. Morehart of Findlay and Carl W. Morehart of Bellevue; five sisters, Pearl M. Bare of Tiffin, Nancy L. Shaull of Findlay, Iola Haugh of McLean, Ark., Cora B. Garven of Kissamee, Fla., and Ada L. Rock of Fostoria; and three grandchildren.

Her father is deceased.

Mrs. Dowdy retired in 1981 from Cooper Engineer Products in Bowling Green, after 10 years of employment.

She was a member of Fostoria Eagles and VFW Auxiliaries and the Ladies of the Moose, Tiffin.

The Rev. Donald Goodwin will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery, near Bettsville.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
