Harold E. Agerter
Sterling Grinding Abrasives retiree

Harold E. Agerter, 78, of St. Francis Home, formerly of 155 Third Ave., died at 10:56 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he had been a patient since Friday

He was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Seneca County, to William and Florence (Setzler) Agerter. His wife, Lois (Fox) Agerter, whom he married Aug. 25, 1972, in Clintwood, Va., survives.

Nieces and nephews also survive.

Four brothers, Ralph F., Edward W., Clayton and Robert Agerter; and a sister, Gladys Fulton, also are deceased.

Mr. Agerter, a World War II veteran, having served in France and Germany, retired as a wheel maker from Sterling Grinding Abrasives, where he had been employed for 30 years.

A resident of Tiffin most of his life, he was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and VFW Post 2858, where he was a lifetime member.

Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery at a later date.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.

Russell E. Peters
Rural Fremont resident

Russell E. Peters, 87, of 937 E. CR 289, Fremont, died at his residence. Arrangements are pending at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs.

Nancy Ann Leaser
Daughter/sister of Tiffin residents

Nancy Ann Leaser, 50, of Oak Harbor, died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Fremont Memorial Hospital as the result of a car accident.

She was born April 29, 1949, in Tiffin, to Donald and Mary Ellen (Engeman) Birch. Her mother survives in Tiffin. On April 3, 1971, in Tiffin, she married Thomas C. Leaser, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jameson Leaser of Oak Harbor and Andrew Leaser of Columbus; a brother, Steven Birch of Green Springs; a sister, Jane Birch of Tiffin; and her maternal grandmother, Hazel Engeman of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by her father, maternal grandfather, John Engeman, and paternal grandparents, Joseph and Christina Birch.

Mrs. Leaser, a 1967 graduate of Green Springs High School, attended Davis Business College, Toledo. She had worked as a billing clerk for H.B.M. Health Care Services, Oak Harbor, for the past 15 years.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor; and for many years served as the Oak Harbor High School cheerleading advisor, where her work included organizing the Oak Harbor Invitational Cheerleading Competition.

She also was a member and past president of the Oak Harbor Athletic Boosters; a current member and past president of the Benton-Carroll-Salem School Board; member of the Oak Harbor Welcome Wagon; and enjoyed helping with Oak Harbor's two main festivals, the Oak Harbor Apple Festival and the Olde Tyme Independence Celebration on July 4th weekend.

Services in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Union cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Visitation in the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, will be 2-9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Oak Harbor High School cheerleaders.

Rose Catherine Gruss
Retired certified professional secretary

Rose Catherine Gruss, 83, of 227 Mohawk St., died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

She was born in Adrian, Seneca County, June 12, 1916, to John and Josephine (Theis) Feck. Her husband, Alvin Joseph Gruss, whom she married June 15, 1940, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Frenchtown, died Jan. 6, 1983.

Survivors include: two sons, John H. Gruss of Florissant, Mo., and Raymond J. Gruss of Corona, Ariz.; three brothers, Joseph Feck of Toledo and Robert and Norbert Feck, both of Carey; two sisters, Mary Anna LaFountaine of Tiffin and Anna Mary Osborn of New Riegel; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Four brothers, Albert, Edward, Peter and Herman Feck, also are deceased.

Mrs. Gruss retired in 1983, after 25 years in federal civil service as an office management assistant to the state director, Farmers Home Administration Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture. She also served as the Federal Women's program coordinator for the agency.

She earlier worked as county office clerk for FHA of Tiffin and as secretary with Tiffin Scenic Studios, Midland Wire Corp., National Machinery Co., Ohio State University and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

She attended Carey High School, graduated in 1934 from New Riegel High School and in 1937 from Tiffin University, where she took graduate courses. She also attended the U.S. Department of Agriculture Graduate School.

In 1966, she attained certified professional secretary status.

A volunteer at Mercy Hospital, St. Joseph School cafeteria, St. Francis Gift Shop and the Senior Center, Mrs. Gruss was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Rosary Altar Society; St. Francis Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, Allen Eiry Senior Citizens and the Professional Secretaries Association.

The Rev. James Say will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in St. Boniface cemetery, New Riegel.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Pauline I. Boes
Former rural Tiffin homemaker

Pauline I. Boes, 95, formerly of 3152 W. SR 18, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in St. Francis Home, where she resided.

She was born in New Riegel, Oct. 7, 1903, to John and Rose (Buchmann) Schwartzmiller. Her husband, Herman F. Boes, whom she married Oct. 7, 1924, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1976.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Sharon Borkosky of Fostoria and Dennis Behm of Tiffin; and five great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Mrs. Edward (Ladonna) Behm, and a brother, Fred Schwartzmiller, also are deceased.

Mrs. Boes, a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a graduate of Ursuline Academy.

A funeral Mass in St. Francis Home Chapel will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Dunn at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The rosary will be recited in the chapel, 15 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the Mass Monday in St. Francis Home Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care.

Jacques M. Permar
Tiffin resident

Jacques M. Permar, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his residence at 95 E. South Trail. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Christine Ryder
Mother of Tiffin resident

Former Bradner resident, Christine Ryder, 81, of Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Village, where she had resided for a year, died at 7:43 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, in St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio.

She was born in Wayne, Aug. 10, 1918, to John and Lelia (Hill) Sage. On Oct. 12, 1935, in Monroe, Mich., she married Reginald Dale Ryder, who preceded her in death April 5, 1983.

Surviving are two sons, Bill G. Ryder of Findlay and Bert J. Ryder of Maumee; two daughters, Mrs. Carl K. (Bonnie) Miller of Tiffin and Mrs. Donald P. (Barbara E.) Hedlund of Perrysburg; a sister, Alice Paul of Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Yant and Hugh Sage; and two sisters, Marguerite Slater and Nita Webel, also are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Ryder was a member of Bradner United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She also served in the choir, as a Sunday School teacher and was active in the church's Loyalty Sunday School class.

She was a charter member and past president of the AMICUS Club and past-president of Bradner Library board, where she was instrumental in getting the library started.

Services in Bradner United Methodist Church will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Zedda Myers officiating. Burial will be in Bradner cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church, Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Village or the donor's choice.

Mabel M. Bickel
Homemaker/farm wife

Mabel M. Bickel, 95, of Fireside, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born July 28, 1904, in Thompson Township to Eli and Sarah (Meisner) Myers and resided on the family farm her entire life. Her husband, Raymond V. Bickel, whom she married Aug. 30, 1932, in Republic, is deceased.

Survivors include: a son, Dale L. Bickel of Fireside; and six nieces.

Also preceding her in death were an infant son, three sisters, Beda Kistler, Dora Lentz and Mattie Hoover; two brothers, Lester and Lloyd Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bickel, a homemaker and farm wife, was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, Republic, its Circle One and Adult League.

She also was a charter member of the Four County Young at Heart Senior Center, Bellevue and a member of the Senior Citizens Club, Republic and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.

She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers and crocheting.

The Rev. Paul Long will be the officiant at the 11 a..m. Wednesday service in Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Fireside cemetery.

Visitation at the Harris Funeral Home, Bellevue, will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 3959 N. Seneca CR 21, Republic, Ohio.

Russell E. Peters
Rural Fremont farmer

Russell E. Peters, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, in the home where he was born, at 937 E. CR 289, Fremont, following a short illness..

He was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Fremont, the son of John Frederick and Sophia (Schuster) Peters. He had never married .

Survivors include: a close friend, Joyce Burkett of Fremont; and a nephew and two nieces.

A brother, Phillip Peters and an infant brother, John Henry Peters, also are deceased.

Mr. Peters, a farmer, was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont. He graduated in 1928 from Green Springs High School.

For many years he spent his winters in St. Petersburg, Fla..

The Rev. Ervin Walther will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in McGormley cemetery, rural Fremont.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Bell Choir of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont.

Paul M. Jones
Clyde Whirlpool retiree

Word has been received of the death of Paul M. Jones, 68, of Claypool, Ariz., who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz., Veterans Hospital.

He was born Aug. 31, 1931. On Aug. 21, 1976, he married Ida Wheeler. She survives.

Other survivors include: his father, Wallace Jones of Montpelier; a sister, Judy Kelly, also of Montpelier; two daughters, Belinda Logan of Fremont and Susan Webster of Elmira, Ore.; two sons, Steven Jones of Gibsonburg and Tracy Jones of Fremont; stepchildren, Gary Wheeler and Christy Brown, both of Tiffin, and Pamela Sommers of Fostoria; and 17 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Delores Kaiser; a daughter, Peggy Jones; and a sister, Lois Scantlen.

Mr. Jones retired in 1989 as a powder coat operator from the Clyde Division of Whirlpool Corp.

Services will be private.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Clyde.

Agnes A. Jenks
Retired grocery clerk

Agnes A. Jenks, 86, formerly of Lunt Street, Fostoria, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Christopher Drive, Fostoria, where she was a resident.

She was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Jemison, Ala., to Walter and Rhoda (Scott) Maddox. She first married Ralph H. Dingelstedt Dec. 21, 1930, in Lomax, Ala. He died June 6, 1956. Her second husband, Charles L. Jenks, whom she married June 3, 1961, in Fostoria, died May 24, 1982.

Surviving are a son, Laurel K. Dingelstedt of Arcadia; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Hershel and James Maddox; and two sisters, Syble Chandler and Coatnie Channell, also are deceased.

Mrs. Jenks, a member of the Fostoria Baptist Church, retired in 1974 as a clerk from Saubers Meats.

She also was a member of Women of the Moose 154, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Fostoria Senior Citizens and Fostoria Chapter 94 Order Eastern Star, which she had served as worthy matron.

The Rev. David Chapman will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Thursday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in St. Wendelin cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 3-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Eastern Star Memorial services will be at 7.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mearl 'Penny' Pendleton
Farmer/International employee

Mearl "Penny" Pendleton, 85, of CR 247, Vickery, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.

He was born in Jerry City Jan. 22, 1914, to Dale and Myrth (Wright) Pendleton. On Nov. 20, 1940, he married Genevieve Swain. She survives.

Survivors also include: a son, John E. Pendleton of Vickery; two sisters, Ina McElaney of Texas and Gladys Hartigan of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother, Edsel Pendleton of Bowling Green.

Mr. Pendleton, a farmer, also had been employed by International Harvester.

A U.S. Coast Guard veteran, having served during World War II, he was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, where he served as communicant.

He also was a member of Townsend Ruritan, Townsend Grange, which he had served as master; the Ohio State Grange, where he was a 6th degree member; and the National Order of the Patrons of Husbandry, of which he was a 70-year member.

A 1930 graduate of Bowling Green High School, Mr. Pendleton served as a Townsend Township clerk for 26 years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of the Sandusky County Clerks and Trustees, Farm Bureau, Farm Council, Sandusky Auxiliary Police and Thurston Zwir American Legion Post.

Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Ernest Matijasic officiating. Interment will be in Castalia cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted.

Visitation at the funeral home will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Townsend Fire Department or the church.
