Robert L. Smith
Lifelong Attica resident

Robert L. Smith, 80, of 12808 E. Seneca CR 6, Attica, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, after a fall at home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Attica to the late Perry and Maude (Meiser) Smith.

On May 17, 1940, he married Lucille (Ayers) Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, James Smith of Attica; two brothers, Russell Smith of Attica and Eugene Smith of Bucyrus; and a sister, Dorothy Cole of Bucyrus.

Mr. Smith was a farmer, worked for Pioneer Rubber Co. in Attica for 20 years and was a rural postal carrier.

He was a 1937 graduate of Attica High School, member of the Attica United Methodist Church, Attica Grange, 30-year member of the Republican Committee, Attica Eagles, 27 years on the Attica Fair Board and in 1998 he was honored by the district and state for his years of dedication to the fair board and a member of New Washington Senior Citizen Group.

He played the sax in the New Washington Band and enjoyed making maple syrup at the Weaver and Smith Maple Syrup camp in rural Attica.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, with the Rev. Tom Kalb officiating. Burial will be at Attica-Venice cemetery.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Attica United Methodist Church or the Seneca East Public Library.

Dr. Frederick Maxwell Kenan
Former Upper Sandusky resident

A graveside memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky, for Dr. Frederick Maxwell Kenan, 88, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Upper Sandusky.

The Rev. Kenneth Wessler will officiate.

Arrangements are being handled by Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home.

Dr. Kenan died Friday, May 21, 1999, at the Tuscon Medical Center Hospital.

His wife, June Slezak Madson, survives, along with his first wife, Janis Benton Kenan, in Arizona.

Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas Benton of Tuscon and John Robert "Jack" of San Diego, Calif.; a stepson, Edwin A. Madson of South Carolina; two daughters, Charlotte Ann, and Kathleen Jo, both of Tuscon; two stepdaughters, Debra J. Madson of Tuscon and Candis Strysko of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mr. Kenan graduated from Wittenberg University, Springfield, in 1933, and from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School of Philadelphia, Pa., in 1937.

He practiced family medicine and obstetrics at 204 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, from 1938 to 1957, when asthma caused him to move with his family to Tucson.

Jeremy Jonathan Fronk
Infant son

Jeremy Jonathan Fronk, 15-day old son of Anthony and Michelle (Stratman) Fronk of Tiffin, died at 3 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, in the Children's Hospital, Columbus.

He was born Sept. 8, 1999, in Riverside Hospital, Columbus.

Other survivors include a brother, Parker Thomas Fronk of Tiffin; and grandparents, Clem and Jan Stratman of Medina, John Fronk of Delta and David and Polly Gillespie of Tiffin.

A private funeral Mass will be Monday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Hospital, Columbus.

Thelma F. Overmyer
Former Old Fort Bank teller

Thelma F. (Fitzgerald) Overmyer, 81, of SR 12, Fremont, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

She was born in Fremont, July 1, 1918, to Willis L. and Estella (Elmers) Fitzgerald. Her husband, Gilbert B. Overmyer, whom she married Jan. 11, 1940, in Woodville, preceded her in death in February 1990.

Survivors include: three sons, Terry A. Overmyer of Old Fort, Ron L. Overmyer of Oak Harbor and Marvin L. Overmyer of Burgoon; and a sister, Eleanor Arnold of Tiffin.

Mrs. Overmyer, a 1936 Old Fort High School graduate, worked as a teller at the Old Fort Bank for more than 35 years.

She was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church and the Old Fort Women's Guild.

Services in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the church.

Winifred L. Carr
Seneca County native/homemaker

Winifred L. Carr, 71, of 825 Victoria Drive, Bucyrus, died at 12:11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, in Mansfield MedCentral Hospital.

She had been seriously ill the past two months.

She was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Seneca County, to Earl W. and Caroline Elizabeth (Bayer) Kirgis.

On April 2, 1950, she married Charles R. Carr, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Mike Carr of Albany, Ga., and Jeff Carr of Columbus; a daughter, Jane Carr of Bucyrus; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; three brothers, Edward Kirgis of Bloomville, Allen Kirgis of Tiffin and Robert Kirgis of Attica; and four sisters, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Miller of Bucyrus, Mrs. Alvin (Ruth) Beikman of Bloomville, Mrs. Lois Roebuck of Newton, Miss., and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Bailey of Mardelle Springs, Md.

A brother, Carl, also is deceased.

Mrs. Carr, a homemaker and long time Crawford County resident, worked for the American Automobile Association for 20 years.

A 1946 graduate of Bloomville High School, she was a member of Windfall United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of a pinochle club.

For years she was an organist for several churches, the last one being Woodlawn Methodist Church and for many years she played for the annual Community Minstral Shows.

The Rev. Chuck Speece will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, Bucyrus.

Burial will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or the Church Building Fund, in care of the Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 N. Walnut St., Bucyrus, OH 44820.

Howard A. Messersmith
Webster retiree

Howard A. Messersmith, 75, of 7838 S. SR 587, McCutchenville, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Arrangements are pending at the Walton Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.

Anna Rose Benner
Homemaker

Anna Rose Benner, 86, 305 S. Sandusky St., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

A funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday and visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Further arrangements are pending.

Rosemary Yandura
Hall Street resident

Rosemary Yandura, 74, 245 Hall St., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in the Ruffing Family Care Center of Tiffin.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louis J. 'Jim' King
Retired carpenter

Louis J. "Jim" King, 60, of 414 S. Kilbourne St., Republic, died Saturday evening, Sept. 25, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Dec. 4, 1938, in Loudon Township, Bascom, to J. Allen and Rita (Smith) King. His mother survives in Republic.

On June 24, 1961, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Jo Ann Kent, who also survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Randal J., Darin J. and Jonathon D. King, all of Republic; two daughters, Mrs. David (Lucinda M.) Land of Ottawa and Mrs. Dennis (Melissa B.) Bowerman of Republic; a sister, Mrs. David (Marjorie) Fisher of Tiffin; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1979.

Mr. King, a 1956 graduate of Scipio-Republic High School, worked at the Attica Lumber Co. for many years, retiring in 1988.

He also had done carpentry work for many years and worked as a truck driver for Ray Mowery of Tiffin.

A 27 year member of the Republic Lions Club, he also was a member of St. Aloysius Church and its Holy Name Society, Republic; Seneca Antique Farm Machinery Club, the New Life Heart Club of Tiffin and a former member of Republic Grange, where he was a 49 year member.

Mr. King had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.

Burial will be in Farewell Retreat cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, where the rosary will be recited at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or Calvert Tuition Assistance Fund.

Rita L. (Snyder) Williams
Former Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Rita L. (Snyder) Williams, 47, of 80 Delores, Harper, Texas, formerly of Tiffin, who died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999.

Surviving are her husband, John of Harper; a son, Jesse, at home; and her father, William H. Snyder of Tiffin.

Her mother, Rose Mary Clark, is deceased.

Services will be Wednesday in the Sizemore Funeral Home, 1913 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the family, 80 Delores, Harper, Texas 78028.
