Molly Goodman
Homemaker

Molly Goodman, 56, 16 Scott St., died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born March 24, 1943, in Broxton, Ga., to Wesley and Ola (Richardson) Swain. Her mother survives. Her husband, Joseph Goodman, whom she married in July 1984, in Tiffin, also survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Joseph and Timothy Goodman, both of Tiffin, and Anthony Goodman of Indiana; six daughters, Angela Russell, Lisa, Elaine, Katherine and Christine Goodman and Evelyn Stinchcomb, all of Tiffin; three sisters, Iris Swain of Cedarville, N.J., Mae Swain of New York and Emma Swain of Bridgeport, N.J.; two brothers, Buddy Swain of Woodbury, N.J. and Joe Swain of Fairton, N.J.; and 11 grandchildren.

A daughter, Emma Goodman; and her father are deceased.

Mrs. Goodman, a homemaker, also worked as an assembler for Work Connections.

A member of Greater St. James Church C.O.G.I.C., Fremont, she was a high school graduate.

Services will be at noon Saturday in Greater St. James Church, with the Rev. Chester Trail officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation at the church will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

William A. Helterbran
Former Tiffin Glass Co. employee

William A. Helterbran, 70, formerly of Genoa, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, where he resided.

He was born July 14, 1929, in Peebles, to John A. and Malissa (Copeland) Helterbran. On Dec. 11, 1948, he married Katherine L. Smith and they later divorced.

Survivors include: a son, Larry W. Helterbran of Imperial Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Michelle F.) Faruki of Oakwood and Mrs. David (Lisa M.) Corley of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and a half-sister, Frankie McCurdy of Wilmington, Ohio

Mr. Helterbran worked as an inspector at the former A.P. Parts Co. in Toledo for 20 years, retiring in 1988. He had also worked as a journeyman glasscutter for the former Tiffin Glass Co. for 20 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, he was a member of UAW Local 14, Toledo and the former American Flint Glass Workers Union, also of Toledo.

There will be no services or visitation.

Memorials may be made to Stein Hospice of Sandusky.

The Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Genoa, is in charge of arrangements.

Richard M. Ranker
Charles Ranker & Sons Inc. owner

Richard M. Ranker, 78, 39 Kensington Ave., died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born in Tiffin, Feb. 15, 1921, to Charles J. and Gladys (Edwards) Ranker. His wife, Florence M. Curry, whom he married Aug. 15, 1943, in Sidon, Miss., survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Charles E. Ranker of Noblesville, Ind. and Dorsey C. and Greg R. Ranker, both of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Dean (Marjorie) Deerwester of Tiffin and Jeannine Schneider of Cincinnati; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Regina and Mary Ruth; and four brothers, Charles, George, James and Joseph Ranker, are deceased.

Mr. Ranker, a 1940 graduate of Columbian High School, was employed as a roofer and tin smith and was the owner of Charles Ranker & Son Inc.

A World War II U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, he attended Christ's Church at Tiffin and was a member of Eagles Aerie 402 and American Legion Post 169.

The Rev. Jon B. Bravinder will conduct the noon Friday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where Eagles services will be at 7 p.m.

Myron E. 'Mike' Wentz
Former Attica resident

Myron E. "Mike" Wentz, 77, of Austin, Texas, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, in St. David's Hospital, Austin.

He was born April 8, 1922, in Bucyrus, to Willard and Marian (Eichelberger) Wentz. On Oct. 27, 1945, he married Mary S. Newbill, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Charles Wentz of Austin and Ronald Wentz of Boca Raton, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

His step-father, Leonard Hager; a brother, Willard F. Wentz; and a sister, Ruth LaNier, are deceased.

Mr. Wentz, who moved to Bucyrus from Attica in the early 1940s and then to Austin, was a graduate of Bucyrus High School.

He was employed as manager of the Attica Cafe for many years; owner and operator of Attica Stake and Pallet Co. for some time and then became secretary/treasurer for Farmers Mutual Insurance in Tiffin.

A former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica, he was a member of American Legion Post 260, Bucyrus Lodge 139 Free and Accepted Masons, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Columbus Aladdin Shrine, Elks Lodge 156 and Moose Lodge 669.

Mr. Wentz was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Pacific.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Wise Funeral Home, Bucyrus, with the Rev. James I. Barkenquast officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Bucyrus.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 6:45 p.m.

Ruth L. Turner
Former Tiffin resident

Ruth L. Turner, 88, of Perrysburg and formerly of Tiffin, died at 4:36 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in Toledo Hospital.

She was born in Owsley County, Ky., Sept. 9, 1911, to James and Lucy (Ward) Lynch. She married Dailey Robin Turner at the Junior Home Memorial Church in Tiffin June 12, 1942. He died May 8, 1958.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Diane) Dryfuse of Maumee, Mrs. Greg (Robyn) Parker and Mrs. Michael (Jeannine) McMullen, both of Perrysburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Lynch of Cincinnati and Gene Lynch of Somerset, Ky.; and a sister Mrs. Seldon (Maxine) Riley of Tiffin.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Joseph and Paul Lynch, and a sister Isabelle (Lynch) Hood.

Mrs. Turner was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky State University; a home economics teacher, teaching two years in Lynch, Ky., and at Tiffin East Junior High 1960-1973; and a member of the Eastern Star.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Sister M. Immaculate Gase
St. Joseph teacher

Sister M. Immaculate Gase, 88, of 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Adrian to George and Lena (Welly) Gase.

A brother, Mark Gase of Michigan, survives. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Virgil and Norman; and a sister, Mildred Breitenbach.

Date of First Profession was June 28, 1927; date of First Vows, June 27, 1929; and date of Final Vows, Aug. 30, 1932.

From 1930 to 1937 she was a teacher in Carey, New Washington and Millersville; 1939 to 1945 she was superior, teacher and principal in Miller City, North Auburn, Carey and New Washington; 1947 in Willard she was appointed superior in charge of religion and did social work; 1948-1972 she was appointed superior, principal and teacher in Landeck, Edgerton, North Auburn, New Washington, Bryan, Custar, Toledo Central Catholic High School, Bucyrus, Willard and Tiffin; 1973 she was at the Tiffin Motherhouse on the switchboard; 1974 she taught in Bryan; 1975 she was at the Pilgrim House in Carey; 1976-1999 she was at the Motherhouse in Tiffin serving as activity aide, assisting in the dining room, assistant to activities director, a volunteer at St. Francis Home, a special praying member, a CCD teacher at St. Joseph Catholic Church and taught the St. Joseph First Communion class until 1998.

A memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Rohen officiating. Burial will be later in the St. Francis Convent Chapel.

A remembrance service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the St. Francis Convent Community Room.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Edith M. Luca
Tiffin homemaker

Edith M. Luca, 92, of St. Francis Home and formerly of 674 S. TR 1179, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at the St. Francis Home.

She was born in Durango, Colo., Feb. 26, 1907, to Nicholas and Antoinette (Fabrizio) De Luzio.

In Dec., 1933, she married Nicholas Luca in Philadelphia. He died in 1979.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Frances) Pentony of Tiffin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister Anna Massi of Woodbury, N.J.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles and Benjamin De Luzio, and a sister Clara De Reinza.

She was a homemaker and member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Joseph Church.

A memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. James Say celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Home.

The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha R. Swisher
Former Fostoria resident

Martha R. Swisher, 91, formerly of North Drive, Fostoria, died at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 9, 1907, in Loudon Township to Charles and Emma (Welly) Brickner.

On April 28, 1935, in Fort Wayne, she married James Calvin Swisher. He died Dec. 21, 1982.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Swisher graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1925; was a bookkeeper; owner and operator of Auto Parts Store in Bluffton, Ind.; a member of the St. Wendelin Church; Fostoria Coin Club; and associate of Fostoria Barbershopper.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with burial in St. Wendelin cemetery.

Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mickey C. Hohman
Resident of Tiffin

Mickey C. Hohman, 28, of 131 Second Ave., died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.

He was born March 2, 1971, in Upper Sandusky to Howard and Victoria (Lawrence) Hohman Sr.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers, Howard Jr. of Van Wert and Christopher Hohman of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Lisa) Linder and Mrs. Aaron (Tracey) Sherman, both of Tiffin; maternal grandmother, Catherine Moore of Tiffin; two nieces and a nephew.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Marian and Marguerite Hohman; maternal step-grandfather, C. Keith Moore; and maternal grandfather, Mervin Lawrence.

He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Rose officiating. Rosary will be said at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Wake Service will be at 3:45.

Memorials may be made to the family, to St. Mary Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

William Wesley Miller
Columbian graduate

William Wesley Miller, 69, of 2809 Sudberry Lane, Bowie, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, in John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a short illness..

He was born July 13, 1930, in Tiffin. He was a graduate of Columbian High School in 1948; and received his bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College. He was in the U. S. Navy from 1948 to 1952, receiving a Good Conduct Medal. He was a graphics artist for the U. S. Information Agency in Washington, D.C., from 1958 until his retirement in 1983. His hobbies included cartooning, story writing and poetry.

In November 1956, he married Myra (Bewie) Miller, who survives along with two sons, Paul W. of Bowie, Md., and John W. of Croffon, Md.; a sister, Judith Conroy of Ashburn, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, Md., with burial in the Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Md.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bowie Volunteer Fire Department.

Donald F. Spencer
General Electric retiree

Donald F. Spencer, 86, formerly of 105 Glenn Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Kobacker House, a Hospice care facility in Columbus.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Sevitz of Dublin and Joan E. Spencer of Hilliard; a son, Kenneth G. Spencer of Waterbury, Vt.; several stepchildren; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wives, Arvilla Spencer and Helen Schlosser, and a son, Donald A. Spencer.

Mr. Spencer retired from General Electric after 30 years of service and was a former member of Washington St. United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, Worthington, with the Rev. Dennis Kaz officiating. Private interment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Franklin County Division, P. O. Box 182039, Dept. 013, Columbus, OH 43218-2039.

Marvalene Hazel Frasher
Former Huron homemaker

Marvalene Hazel Frasher, 82, of the Clyde area, formerly of Darrow Road, Huron, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

She was born in Surburg, Ohio, July 14, 1917, to Burr and Hazel (Shicks) Bailey. On Aug. 18, 1944, she married Clarence J. Frasher, who preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1979.

Survivors include: a son, Walter B. Frasher of Clyde; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Frasher, an only child, was a homemaker. During World War II she worked at Curtis Wright.

She attended Zion Lutheran Church, Huron, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde.

The Rev. Gerry Gosnell will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday graveside service in Peaks cemetery, Berlin Heights.

The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Countryside Continuing Care Center.

Nancy I. (Duncan) Crabtree
General Telephone retiree

Nancy Irene (Duncan) Crabtree, 72, 99 Park Ave., died at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she had resided since Oct. 1.

She was born in Winfield, Tenn., Dec. 31, 1926, to Norman and Emma (Wilson) Duncan. Her husband, Fred J. Crabtree, whom she married Dec. 21, 1945, in Raleigh, N.C., survives.

Other survivors include: a grandson, Chris; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mary Pauline Duncan Tuttle.

A son, James Crabtree, died in 1971; a daughter, Mary (Crabtree) Brauer, died in 1981; and a brother, Norman Duncan, also is deceased.

Mrs. Crabtree, who had been employed at Ohio Bell Telephone, Southern Bell and with the Civil Service for the U.S. Air Force, retired as a supervisor in 1990 from General Telephone.

A 1945 graduate of Columbian High School, she had attended school at the Junior Home until it closed in 1944.

She came back to Tiffin two years ago from Orange City, Fla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. David C. Mills officiating.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care.
