Summer L. Bishop
Republic area resident

Summer L. Bishop, 18, of 3995 N. CR 21, Republic, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, as a result of an auto accident in Clyde.

She was born June 18, 1981, in Fremont to Michael and Sue (Green) Bishop.

Surviving are her parents; a brother, Michael Jr. of Republic; twin sister, Sarah of Republic; maternal grandmother, Edith Green of Bellevue; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Jean Bishop of Norwalk.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Howard Green.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception in Bellevue with the Rev. Robert Tuccheri officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Catholic.

Visitation is 7-9 today; 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday with Rosary at 3:30 p.m. at the Foos & Son Funeral Home in Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Alford Herman McLaughlin
Retired Union Carbide employee

Alford Herman McLaughlin, 92, formerly of Brookside Drive, Fostoria, died at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at The Waters Nursing Home in Chesterton, Ind.

He was born Jan. 31, 1907, in Johnston, Pa., to Marlin and Argie (Hutton) McLaughlin. He married Kathryn R. Sterling June 3, 1933, in Fostoria.

Surviving are: his wife of Chesterton, Ind.; a son, John McLaughlin of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Ann) Schaeffer of Long Beach, Ind.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Marlin, Paul; and a grandchild.

He was a 1925 graduate of Fostoria High School and a 1929 graduate of North Central College, where he received his bachelor's degree; retired in 1972 from Union Carbide Corp. in Fostoria, where he was an engineer; a member of High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens cemetery, near Arcadia with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria.

Arrangements are being made by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

James Josiah Shultz Jr.
Republic resident

James Josiah Shultz Jr., 55, of 203 N. Madison St., Republic, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Fisher-Titus Hospital Emergency Room.

Mr. Shultz was born July 17, 1944, in Tiffin to James and Pauline (Egbert) Shultz Sr.

Survivors include: his mother of Republic; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Wilma) Roth of Attica; three nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, John Joseph Shultz.

He worked at the American Baler in Bellevue for over 30 years; was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Republic; the Buckeye Sheriffs Association; the National Rifle Association; and was a past union steward.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Republic with the Rev. Gary Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.

Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Huron County Dialysis Unit.

Mattie Taylor
Former Tiffin resident

Mattie Taylor, 76, formerly of Tiffin, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in LaGrange County, Wolcottville, Ind., where she resided.

She was born in Whitesburg, Ky., Feb. 10, 1923, to Robert and Rosa (Collins) Thomas. On Sept. 27, 1945, in Whitesburg, she married Tommy Taylor. He died June 27, 1975.

Surviving are three sons, Charles E. Taylor of Auburn, Ind., Robert H. Taylor of Wampum, Pa. and David D. Taylor of Kendallville, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Jo Ella) Sturgill of Carey, Mrs. Don (Madonna) Whipple of Wolcottville and Mrs. Larry Delbert (Sharon) Tyree of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Esta Mae Thomas of Tiffin, Bobby Jean Lucas of Michigan and Ora Mason and Verna Kease, both of Whitesburg.

An infant daughter, Shirley Deloris; a great-grandchild; four brothers, Watson, Carl, Ellis and Lenvill Thomas; and three sisters, Sabrina Lucas, Norma Lee Thomas and Oma Kiser, also are deceased.

Mrs. Taylor, who had resided in Wolcottville for four years, was a homemaker.

A member of the Baptist Church, she attended school in Whitesburg.

The Rev. James Wyatt will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Friday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Carey Freewill Baptist Church.

Lue I. Werling
Homemaker/former teacher

Lue I. Werling, 80, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at her residence at 22 Glenview Terrace.

She was born in White County, Ind., Jan. 31, 1919, to Vintson and Faye (Baer) Mikesell. Her first husband, LeVern R. Lathar, whom she married in 1943, in the First Lutheran Church, died in 1978. She later married Eugene H. Werling in 1984. He survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Karyne L. Carey of Mansfield and Lynda L. Montgomery of Cincinnati; a son, Kenneth L. Lather of Findlay; a stepson, Henry E. Werling of Waverly, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Paula J. Phillips of Terre Haute, Ind.; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; a stepbrother, Robert Spencer of Keshena, Wis.; and two sisters, Phyllis Werner of Idaville, Ind., and Mary Ann Olivey of Las Vegas, Nev.

Two brothers, Walter and Harold Mikesell, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Werling, a homemaker and resident of the Tiffin area for 57 years, also taught in area schools.

A graduate of the University of Findlay, she was a member of the First Lutheran Church and its Naomi Circle and PIECE Corp sewing group.

Memorial services in the First Lutheran Church will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Margaret M. Marks officiating. Burial has taken place in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation at the church will be one hour before the service Saturday.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church, Hancock County CASA/in care of Pam Lather; or the Mazza Gallery of the University of Findlay.

Visitation for James J. Shultz Jr., 55, of Republic, who died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, in Fisher-Titus Hospital Emergency Room, will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, rural Bloomville. Herman J. Everhart
Lifelong farmer

Herman J. Everhart, 86, of 9674 E. TR 178, Green Springs, died at his home Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, following a sudden illness.

He was born March 16, 1913, in Eden Township, Seneca County, to Revere and Mabel Fern (Burchard) Everhart.

Survivors include a brother, Delbert Everhart of Attica; a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Alton Everhart in 1992.

Mr. Everhart, a World War II U.S. Army Reserve veteran, was a farmer most of his life.

The Rev. Jeff King will conduct the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be in Block cemetery, Republic.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 10 a.m. Friday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Quang M. Huynh
Fostoria resident

Quang M. Huynh, 48, of 6075 CR 23, Fostoria, died at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, in the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo. He was born June 1, 1951, to Son Q. and Tuyet T. (Pham) Huynh in Vietnam. On Jan. 10, 1971, he married Hong T. Tong. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: four sons, Dung M. Huynh of Fostoria, Ho M. and Vu T. Huynh, both of Cleveland, and Long M. Huynh of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; two daughters, Thanh T. T. Huynh of Columbus, and Kim T. T. Huynh of Cincinnati; six brothers, all of Vietnam; and four sisters, all of Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Binh Q. Huynh.

Mr. Huynh was a weight master for 12 years at Blanchard Valley Farmers Co-Op, Fostoria Branch. He also owned and operated the China Rose Chinese-American Restaurant in Findlay. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will officiate the 1 p.m. Saturday service at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria.

Lois Annabelle Milligan
Retired school secretary

Lois Annabelle Milligan, 88, of 301 Boston Ave., Fostoria, died at 2:02 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at Fostoria Community Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1910, to Grover and Ora (Kidd) Foltz. On Aug. 21, 1933, she married John Ralph Milligan. He died Oct. 24, 1979.

Survivors include: a son, Frank R. Milligan of Fostoria; a daughter, Sharon G. Milligan of Fostoria; and two sisters-in-law, Florence Foltz and Phyllis Melligan.

Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Dwight, Forrest and Lowell Foltz; and a sister, Guyneth Grauer.

Mrs. Milligan was a Class of 1928 graduate of Fostoria High School, worked as secretary for Fostoria City Schools for more than 20 years, retiring in July of 1979. She worked at Lowell Elementary, and the former Whittier and Bryant elementary schools. She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and its Pathfinders Class and Naomi Circle.

The Rev. Jeffrey Waite, of High Street Methodist Church, will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.

Visitation hours are from one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.

Donald E. Carter
Former Clyde mayor, barber

Donald E. Carter, 84, of Woodland Place, Clyde, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, in Bellevue Hospital. He was born May 14, 1915, to Fred and Mildred J. (Dalzell) Carter in Clyde.

His first wife, Sadie Smetzer Carter, died Oct. 31, 1985. He married Ester Burroughs Stout Carter Feb. 25, 1989. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, the Rev. Robert H. Carter of East Jordan, Mich., and Roger D. Carter of Lima; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Sandy Michaels of Clyde; a brother, George F. Carter of Upland, Calif.; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a son, George Carter, in 1995; a daughter, Janet Carter, in 1947; and a sister, Ruth Johnson.

Mr. Carter was a 1933 Clyde High School graduate and Toledo Barber School graduate. He was a barber for more than 62 years, never retiring. He was a member of: St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving on church council; Clyde Moose and Eagles; Clyde Business and Professional Association, having been Man of the Year; former mayor of Clyde and councilman; and member Sandusky County Realty Association.

The Rev. Steve Wood will officiate the 2 p.m. Sunday service at the Clyde Christian Church. Burial will be at McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation hours will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran World Relief World Hunger Appeal.

Mana R. DeMuth
Former Tiffin area resident

Memorial services for Mana R. DeMuth, 92, of McLean, Va., were at The Lewinsville in Mclean at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Cremains will be buried in St. Mary's cemetery, Tiffin. Mrs. DeMuth Oct. 28, 1999.

Memorials may be made to Friends of the Lewinsville, 1515 Great Falls St., McLean, VA 22101.

Her husband, Chester L. DeMuth, is deceased. Surviving are children Charles P. DeMuth of Toledo, Clark E. DeMuth of California and Janet Sommers of Virginia; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Columbian High School and was a long-time resident of the Tiffin/Bettsville area. She was born in Sowers, Va., Oct. 22, 1907, to Clark and Emma Sutphin.

Fern C. Haefling
Former Haefling Printing owner

Fern C. Haefling, 92, formerly of 95 East South Trail, died at 6:57 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born May 5, 1907, in Fremont to Edward and Elta (Gephart) Shawl. On Oct. 26, 1936, in Sandusky she married Leonard Haefling. He died Feb. 26, 1982.

Suvivors include: a sister, Mrs. J. B. (Myrtle) French of Lake San Marcos, Calif.; a niece, Ruby Bork of Fremont; many other nieces and nephews; and close friend Vivian R. Burke of Tiffin.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Ethel Fausey and Lucy Koebel; two brothers, Clyde and Willis Shawl.

She was a graduate of Fremont High School; a salesperson; and the former owner of Haefling Printing. She was a member of the Penthouse Club.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Autumnwood Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
