Betty E. Manhart
Retired bookkeeper/secretary
Betty E. Manhart, 77, formerly of Vanlue and Burgoon, died at 7:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky, where she resided.
She was born in Vanlue, Sept. 18, 1922, to Orville E. and Bessie B. (Benjamin) Dean. On Feb. 17, 1968, she married
Harry E. Manhart Jr., who preceded her in death July 9, 1977.
Two brothers, Jack and James Dean; and a sister, Twila Stillberger, also are deceased.
Mrs. Manhart, a 1940 graduate of Vanlue High School, retired as a bookkeeper from the R.W. Shaffer Elevator in Vanlue. She also worked as bookkeeper and secretary for several other businesses in the area.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Fremont, she enjoyed playing bingo, doing cross-word puzzles and playing the piano and organ for services while at Fairhaven Community.
The Rev. Allen Dean will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Smith cemetery, Burgoon.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Judith L. Geary
Former General Electric employee
Judith L. Geary, 61, died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home at 104 E. Fifth St., Sycamore.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., July 5, 1938, to the late John C. and Charlotte J.H. (Seabreeze) Adams. Her husband, Chester E. Geary, whom she married
June 16, 1956, survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David G. Geary of Upper Sandusky; two daughters, Mrs. James (Patricia) Johnson of Lima and Mrs. Wayne (Allison) Marks of Akron; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Mary Elizabeth) Hudson of Casey, Ill. and Mrs. Tom (Janice) Wach of Davenport, Iowa; and two brothers, John C. Adams of Omaha, Neb. and J. Thomas Adams of Iowa City, Iowa.
Mrs. Geary, a member of the Protestant Faith, worked at the General Electric in Tiffin for 17 years until the early 1960s.
A 1956 Sycamore High School graduate, she enjoyed doing needlework.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Van Fisher officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Carolyn E. Hougendobler
Fremont Eagles employee
Carolyn E. Hougendobler, 57, of 175 Thomas Drive, Apt. 2, Fremont, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Charles H. Sr. and Dorothy E. (Gillette) Gilbert, who survive in Green Springs. On Nov. 26, 1993, in Green Springs, she married
Raymond E. Hougendobler Jr., who also survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Ralph L. Shearn Jr. of Fremont and Ryan E. Hougendobler of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Michael S. (Leslie) Laconis of Clyde; three grandchildren; her grandmother, Ruth E. Gillette, also of Green Springs; and two brothers, Charles H. Gilbert Jr. of De Soto, Mo. and Donald E. Gilbert of Green Springs.
A brother, Robert E. Gilbert, is deceased.
Mrs. Hougendobler, a 1960 graduate of Green Springs High School, also attended the Cleveland Business College.
A member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Green Springs, Fremont Eagles 712 Auxiliary, VFW Post 2947 Auxiliary and Ladies of Moose Lodge 1286, she worked at Fremont Eagles Aerie 712.
The Rev. Andrew Angel will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where Fremont Eagles Auxiliary services will be at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Leila B. Cooley
Bloomville resident
Leila B. Cooley, 96, formerly of 13 N. High St., Bloomville, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 1, 2000, in the Ruffing Family Care Center, Bloomville, after a sudden illness.
She was born Aug. 17, 1903, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to Henry and Nellie (Baldwin) Aunspach. On Nov. 25, 1925, she married
Alvin R. Cooley Sr., who died June 5, 1982.
Survivors include: two sons, Eugene D. Cooley of Bloomville and Alvin Ray Cooley Jr. of Bend, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. H.P. (Carolyn) Wolfe of Mentor; three grandchildren. and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine.
Mrs. Cooley, a member of Bloomville United Church of Christ and its Helper's Class, had taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Seneca County.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. David M. Culp officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Shriners Burn Unit.
Carl A. Bair
Tiffin native/retired bookkeeper
Carl A. Bair, 76, of 316 S. Tyler St., Van Wert, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in the Lincolnway Nursing Home, Middle Point, Ohio, following a short illness.
He was born March 6, 1923, in Tiffin, to Joseph W. and Anna Marie (Wellman) Bair. His wife, Marilyn R. (Poling) Bair, whom he married
July 20, 1952, in Van Wert, survives in Van Wert.
Also surviving are four sons, Thomas Bair of Columbia, Mo., Joseph Kevin and Phillip D. Bair, both of Van Wert and Neil S. Bair of Columbus Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Robin A. ) Garman of Chickasaw, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Urban (Anna Elizabeth "Betty") Magers of Tiffin.
A brother, John J. Bair; a sister, Margaret Bullinger; and a grandchild, are deceased.
Mr. Bair, a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, retired as a bookkeeper, formerly with J.C. Penney's, Presler Motors and the Farm Bureau Council.
An avid bowler, he was a member of the Classic Bowling League, Bethel United Methodist Church, the American Legion and VFW Posts, all of the Van Wert area.
The Rev. James Howell will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery, Van Wert, where military graveside services will be conducted by Van Wert American Legion and VFW Posts.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Church Building Fund, Community Health Professionals and the Lincolnway Nursing Home Activity Fund.
Hazel Rosella Betts
Former resident of Tiffin
Hazel Rosella Betts, 92, of Crookston, Minn., died early Friday morning, Dec. 31, 1999, in the Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston.
She was born in Adams, Minn., Feb. 6, 1907, to Henry and Bertha (Hippe) Grove. On May 28, 1932, in East Grand Forks, Minn., she married
Melvin L. Betts, who died in Tiffin, Dec. 27, 1979.
Surviving are two brothers and five sisters.
Four brothers also are deceased.
Mrs. Betts, a caregiver for many children, also worked at a defense plant in Detroit, Mich. during World War II.
Besides living in Crookston, she also lived in North Dakota, Hazel Park, Mich. and Tiffin, where she was an active member of the Assembly of God Church of Tiffin.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Crookston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crookston. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery in Tiffin at a later date, where graveside services will be conducted.
The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Omalene Woyan
Homemaker/Norstat employee
Omalene Woyan, 59, of West Main Street, Bellevue, formerly of Southwest Street, Bellevue, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center.
She was born May 15, 1940, in Salyersville, Ky., the daughter of the late Luther and Ella (Holbrook) Walters. Her husband, Charles William Woyan, whom she married
July 3, 1960, preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1977.
Surviving are four children, Charles Alan Woyan of Homosassa, Fla., Mrs. Benjamin (Charlene) Woyan-Palos of Tiffin, Mrs. Roy (Elaine) Woyan-Wright of Woodbridge, Va. and David Woyan of Bellevue; five grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Lorrene) Click of Willard, Tina Watson of Marysville and Mrs. Jason (Renella Ruth) Montgomery and Mrs. Walter (Levotis) Wagner, both of Bellevue.
A grandchild and two infant brothers also are deceased.
Mrs. Woyan, a 1958 graduate of Bellevue High School, was a homemaker and also had been employed at Norstat in Norwalk.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Auxter-Groff Funeral Home, Bellevue, with the Rev. Harlan Frederick officiating. Interment will be in York Free Chapel cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Kevin Dean Stancil
Tire company employee
Kevin Dean Stancil, 39, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the home of his father and stepmother on Mechanic Street, Clyde.
He was born Dec. 24, 1960, in Sandusky, to Huey M. and Hazel D. (Paul) Stancil. His father and stepmother, Cathy Stancil survive in Clyde and his mother in Florida.
Survivors also include: a son, Nicholas Stancil of Sandusky; a brother, Robert Stancil of Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Randy (Lisa) Rogers of Clyde; half-sisters, Brenda Kirkland of Cleveland, Janet Worcester, Mrs. Louie (Sherry) Mazorra and Marcia Johnson, all of Florida; and step-siblings, Shawna Rock, Bobbie Jo Matney and LaTrelle Messer, all of Clyde, Dixie Dietrich of Catawba, John Hager of Sandusky, Thomas Hager of Ohio and Lisa Fisher of Castalia.
An infant sister, Debra Stancil, preceded him in death.
Mr. Stancil, a graduate of Margaretta High School, worked for the City of Clyde and later at Smiley Tire in Fremont.
The Rev. Gene Paul will conduct the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Parkhurst cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edna Newsome, 74, of Limerick Road, Clyde, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in St. Francis Nursing Home, Green Springs.
She was born in Harold, Ky., Feb. 10, 1925, to John and Laura (Roberts) Martin. Her husband, Grady Newsome, whom she married
Aug. 13, 1947, died July 1, 1994.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles Campbell of Pikeville, Ky. and Harry Newsome of Clyde; two daughters, Peg Hirt of Clyde and Mrs. Terry (Melody) Fields of Bellevue; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs.John (Vera) Powell of Fremont and Mrs. Marcum (Gilva) Reynolds of Allen, Ky.
Preceding her in death were an infant son; and four brothers, Dewey, Bobby Joe, W.L. and Hallard Martin.
Mrs. Newsome, a homemaker, had resided in Clyde since 1950, coming there from Kentucky.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Steve Wood officiating. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Patricia A. Houk
Tiffin homemaker
Patricia A. Houk, 69, 515 Jackson St., died at 11:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
She was born in Tiffin March 14, 1930, to the late Herschel and Madeline (Bimer) Kirchner. Her husband of 51 years, Charles Houk, whom she married
Nov. 20, 1948, in Tiffin, survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Stephen James Houk of Tiffin; a daughter, Pamela Louise Dunson of Attica; and five grandchildren.
Mrs. Houk, a homemaker, was a 1948 graduate of Columbian High School.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Tiffin and a 50-year member of Order Eastern Star 189.
The Rev. Margaret Marks will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gloria A. Lyburtus

Gloria A. Lyburtus, 65, formerly of Bellefontaine, died at 5:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at her daughter's home in Tiffin.
She was born Nov. 25, 1934, in Bellefontaine, to the late Charles R. and Sarah (Ritchie) Harper. On March 15, 1951, in Bellefontaine, she married
Donald D. Lyburtus Sr. He died Jan. 31, 1977.
Surviving are: two sons, Donald Duane Lyburtus Jr. of Toledo and Jerry A. Lyburtus of Bellefontaine; four daughters, LaCretia Jackson of Tiffin, Cathy Ferguson, Von Lyburtus and LaTonya Vickers, all of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Mary J. Harper Hughes and Evelyn L. Harper Finch, both of Bellefontaine; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Brenda McBeth, also is deceased.
Mrs. Lyburtus was a homemaker.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, with the Rev. Tom D. Taylor officiating.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home..
