Jean (Callendar) Coleman
Tiffin native

Word has been received of the death of Jean (Callendar) Coleman, 78, a Tiffin native who died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Cincinnati, after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Charles Callendar Sr. and a brother, Richard Callendar.

Surviving are a daughter, Pat Coleman Bray of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Richard Doran of Higley, Ariz., and Trenton Coleman of Cincinnati; two brothers, Howard Callendar of Georgia and Charles Callendar of California; two sisters, Mary Mitchell of Michigan and Marge Newsome of California; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Coleman, a 1939 Columbian High School graduate, was a former youth worker in the Seneca County Juvenile Court system.

Memorials may be made to the Association for the Blind, Maple Knoll Village, Cincinnati, or a favorite charity.

Ellis C. Butzier
Former Bettsville resident

Ellis C. Butzier, 79, formerly of Bettsville, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at his home at 306 Ohio Ave.

He was born in Amsden, July 6, 1920, to Albert and Ruby (Zimmerman) Butzier. His wife, Florence Lucille (Cochran) Butzier, whom he married May 4, 1942, in Napoleon, survives.

Other survivors include: five children, Mrs. Ronald (Donna) Clingman of Fostoria, Mrs. Gus (Karen) Hoffman of Huron, James Butzier of Streetsboro, Mrs. William (Deanna) LaLone of Tiffin and Mrs. Ricky (Cynthia) Trumbo of Helena; two brothers, Kenneth Butzier of Kansas, Ohio, and Verlin Butzier of Fremont; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Nancy Lee Butzier; a grandson, Craig Michael Hoffman; three brothers and two sisters also are deceased.

Mr. Butzier, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1978 as an instrument repairman from Basic Inc., after 35 years of employment.

A 1938 graduate of Bettsville High School, he was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church and the Basic Quarter Century Club.

The Rev. Larry Smith will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Tuesday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kansas cemetery, Bettsville, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

James R. Walters
Former Red Arrow Cafe owner

James R. Walters, 79, of Fremont, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in The Arbors of Clyde.

He was born April 9, 1920, in Ottawa. His wife, Lillian (Scovanec) Walters, survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Robert Walters of Flag Staff, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Denny (Ann) Noss of Clyde; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward J. Walters of Vickery.

Mr. Walters, a Libbey High School graduate, was the former owner of the Red Arrow Cafe.

A resident of the Fremont area since 1948, he was a member of Fremont Eagles and Moose and the Fremont Power Squadron.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Stephanie McLemore officiating.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Lillian V. Dishong
Republic homemaker

Lillian V. Dishong, 77, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at her home at 209 Broadway St., Republic, following a sudden illness.

She was born May 5, 1922, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to Charles and Mary (Clagett) Bogart. On Nov. 4, 1944, in Hancock County, she married Orla Dishong, who preceded her in death in June 1983.

A son, Dale D. Dishong of Tiffin, survives.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Charles Bogart.

Mrs. Dishong, a homemaker, had lived in the Republic area all her life.

She was a member of the Republic Senior Citizens and a 50-year member of Luella Chapter 223 Order Eastern Star, Bloomville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Gary Hicks of Trinity United Methodist Church, Republic, officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacobs cemetery, near Republic.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Burn Unit Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Hubert J. Gosche
Farmer/Ameriwood retiree

Hubert J. Gosche, 74, of 6278 N. SR 635, Fostoria, died at 10:44 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born in New Riegel, Jan. 19, 1925, to Claude and Eleanor (Wetzel) Gosche. His wife, Bernadine A. (Steyer) Gosche, whom he married Sept. 7, 1946, in St. Boniface Church, New Riegel, died April 10, 1995.

Survivors include: four sons, Bernard N. of Tiffin, Kenneth G. of Loudonville, Paul L., also of Tiffin and Robert J. of Burgoon; five daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Norma) Brown, Mrs. Larry (Donna) Elchert and Mrs. Keith (Theresa) Sholl, all of Tiffin, Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Peiffer of Fostoria and Mrs. Roger (Barbara) Wasserman of Burgoon; two brothers, Norbert Gosche of Tiffin and Cyril Gosche of rural New Riegel; a sister, Mrs. Bernard (Agnes) Thiel of Marion; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A brother, Carl Gosche; and three grandchildren, also are deceased.

Mr. Gosche, a farmer, also retired in 1987 as a machine operator, from Ameriwood, where he had been employed for 17 years.

A New Riegel High School graduate, he was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Liberty Township; Just Friends and the New Riegel Moose Lodge.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Peiffer as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Gertrude M. Oakleaf
Rural Tiffin homemaker

Gertrude M. Oakleaf, 76, 2783 E. TR 138, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in Heartland of Bucyrus, Crawford County, where she had been a patient for about 12 days.

She was born in Tiffin, April 25, 1923, to Charles F. and Hazel (Turner) Smith. On Nov. 2, 1942, in Greenville, S.C., she married Russell F. Oakleaf Jr., who preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1998.

Surviving are: a son, Gary Oakleaf of Sycamore; three daughters, Mrs. Rod (Beverly) Gillmor, Mrs. James (Jane) Koch and Mrs. Michael (Linda) Landers, all of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a brother, Richard O. Smith of Tiffin; and a sister, Mary Lou Curns, also of Tiffin.

Mrs. Oakleaf, a homemaker, was a graduate of Columbian High School.

A life-time Tiffin area resident, she was a member of the Old Fort Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose.

The Rev. Jerry K. Wiles will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Dialysis Center, 65 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.

Helen M. Bollinger
Homemaker/former secretary

Helen M. Bollinger, 95, formerly of 161 E. Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, 25 Christopher Drive, Fostoria, where she resided.

She was born June 3, 1904, in West Independence, to David and Lucy (Gosser) Updike. Her husband, Oliver J. Bollinger, whom she married May 4, 1929, in Seneca County, died March 14, 1968.

Survivors include: two sons, Donald E. Bollinger of Sun Lakes, Ariz. and Carl E. Bollinger of Fostoria; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A brother, Harry Updike, also is deceased.

Mrs. Bollinger, a homemaker, also had worked as a secretary for the family business, O.J. Bollinger Construction.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Fostoria Redmen Music Boosters.

Sister Mildred Mary Neuzil S.J.T.
Sister of Indwelling Trinity

Sister Mildred Mary Neuzil S.J.T., 83, died Monday morning, Jan. 10, 2000, at her residence at 700 N. Susan Drive, Fostoria.

She was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Anna (Smerda) Neuzil.

Survivors include: two sisters, Grace Lupan and Jerry Stitch, both of Arizona, a brother, William Neuzil, also of Arizona; and her community of the Indwelling Trinity with devotion to Our Lady America and Our Lady of America Center.

A brother, John Neuzil and two sisters, Irma and Anna, also are deceased.

Sister Mildred Mary's life had been hidden with Christ in God as a religious for 70 years and she had been commissioned by the Mother of God to place a statue of Mary under the title of Our Lady of America in the National Shrine in Washington, D.C, as a special safe guard for our country.

Her statue traveled to the World Youth Day in Denver, Paris, Philippines and throughout the continents, including Red China and the U.S.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Shrine, Carey, with the Rev. Gregory Neuzil officiating. A rosary will be recited before the Mass.

Visitation will take place one hour before the Mass Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Devotion to Our Lady of America Center, P.O. Box 445, Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

The Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

James L. Watson
Former Republic resident

Word has been received of the death of James L. Watson, 79, of Lodi, who died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in the Glendora Health Center, Wooster.

He was born April 27, 1920, in Republic, to the late Alvin and Blanche (Sietz) Watson. His wife, Mollie, died in 1989.

Surviving are: two daughters, Sharon King and Mrs. Denzel (Alice) Channell, both of Lodi; two sons, David Watson of Seville and John Watson of Medina; six grandchildren; a sister, Alice Neikirk of Tiffin; and a brother, Daryl Watson of Republic.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Virgil.

Mr. Watson, a pharmacist for Medlo Drug in Lodi and Lodi Community Hospital, retired in 1989.

A Ohio Northern University graduate, where he received his degree in pharmacy, was a member of Honeycreek Baptist Church, Bloomville.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Services were Saturday in the Parker and Son Funeral Home, Lodi, with Jerry Arman of West Salem, officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery, Lodi.

Elgin H. Gibson
Golden Giant retiree

Elgin H. Gibson, 66, of Dola, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 4, 1933, in Grassy Creek, Ky., to Orvill and Pearl (Prater) Gibson. On June 17, 1953, in Willard, he married Shirley Funk, who survives in Dola.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Tony (Darlene) Musser of Ada; three sons, Jesse Gibson of Alma, Kan., Curtis Gibson of Rawson and Kim Gibson of Lansing, Kan.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Gibson of Umtilla, Fla.

Three sisters are deceased.

Mr. Gibson, a U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1994 from the Golden Giant, after 14 years of employment.

He also worked for the Nickle Plate Railroad 1953-66; and Superior Coach, and as a supervisor for the following: Clark Equipment, Centrex, Metacoate and Wilco.

An avid golfer and hunter, he restored old cars.

He was a member of the Forest and Kenton VFW Posts and the Eagles.

The Rev. Anthony Krummrey will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Thursday service in the Price Funeral Home, Dunkirk. Burial will be in Dola cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hardin County Heart Association.

Kenneth A. Welshons
Brother of Tiffin resident

Kenneth A. Welshons, 88, of Cook Road, New Washington, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in the Heartland Nursing Home, Bucyrus.

He was born Feb. 6, 1911, in New Washington, to David Ernest and Nora Mary (Ulmer) Welshons, in the same house he had lived in all of his life.

Survivors include: two sisters, Muriel Ackerman of New Washington and Lois Irwin of Tiffin; four nieces and a nephew.

He also was preceded in death by an infant sister, Thelma Gertrude Welshons.

Mr. Welshons, a farmer, was a 1929 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School.

A member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Tiro, he also was a long time member of the Farmers State Bank Board and the New Washington Equity Board.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Secor Funeral Home, New Washington, with the Rev. Thomas Schluter Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Tiro United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
