Glenna E. Hook
Tiffin homemaker

Glenna E. Hook, 80, 46 S. Monroe St., died at 7:07 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where she had been a patient for several days.

She was born in Glouster, Ohio, Jan. 13, 1920, to Isaac and Matilda (Sampson) Brooks. Her husband, Earl Hook, also is deceased.

Surviving are three children, Zelma Gene Heckert of Fremont, Mrs. Donald (Wilda) Luzader of Tiffin and Mrs. Earl (Carol) Adkins of Benton; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Garnet Moody of Tiffin.

Two sons, Melvin and Earl "Jiggs" Hook; six brothers and five sisters, also are deceased.

A homemaker and long-time Tiffin resident, Mrs. Hook was a member of the Salvation Army Church and its Women's Ministry.

Lt. Bruce A. and Robbin J. Eckhart will conduct the 1:30 p.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be one hour before the service Wednesday at

the funeral home.

Sister Mary Conradine Dudziak
Retired teacher

Sister Mary Conradine Dudziak, 87, formerly of St. Louis, Mo., died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in St. Francis Health Care Centre, Sandusky County, Green Springs, where she resided for the past seven years.

She was born in Cleveland Feb. 25, 1912, to Joseph and Maryanna (Plawecka) Dudziak.

Sister Mary Conradine, a former teacher at Clyde St. Mary's School, was a graduate of Webster College, St. Louis, Mo.

She was a member of the Holy Family Chapel, Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help community for 66 years.

The Rev. William Rose will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. service today in St. Francis Health Care Centre. Burial will be in St. Louis.

Visitation is one hour before the service today at the Centre.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Health Care Centre.

Richard Kiesel
Tiffin native/real estate assessor

Word has been received of the death of Richard Kiesel, 71, of St. Joseph, Mich., who died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph.

He was born Jan. 14, 1928, in Tiffin, to the late Henry Jacob and Mabel Mayette (Schubert) Kiesel. His wife, Barbara (DuShane) Kiesel, whom he married April 16, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, survives in St. Joseph.

Survivors also include: a son, Mark Kiesel of Tustin, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. John (Shari) Marquez of Clovis, Calif.; and a brother, Herman Kiesel of Tiffin.

He also was preceded in death by a sister, LaVerne Nipper.

Mr. Kiesel, a U.S. Navy veteran, having served 1945-47, was employed as the assessor for the city of St. Joseph 1971-92.

He started Medic-One Ambulance Service, where he served as its chairman 1976-96; served as treasurer of the Housing Commission for St. Joseph; served on the city election board, taught real estate classes at Lake Michigan College and was past secretary-treasurer of the St. Joe Valley Chapter 176-Society of Real Estate Appraisers.

Before coming to St. Joseph, he was employed as a real estate appraiser for the J.M. Cleminshaw Co. of Cleveland and as a real estate broker. He currently was employed part time at Classic Ford.

He studied accounting at Tiffin University and Case Western Reserve and studied real estate at the University of Michigan.

Services were Jan. 7 in the First United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. Burial was in Riverview cemetery, St. Joseph.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America. The Kerley and Starks Funeral Home, St. Joseph, was in charge of arrangements.

Olive M. Fredritz
Rural Carey homemaker

Olive M. Fredritz, 78, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at her residence at 1710 TH 106, Carey.

She was born in Hurricane, W.Va., Oct. 7, 1921, to Samuel and Zella (Forth) Sowards. On June 21, 1944, she married Stanton R. Swerlein, who preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1965. She later married James Fredritz in July 1969 and he survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Steven E. Swerlein of Carey; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sandra) Heydinger of Leawood, Kan., and Mrs. Dennis (Beverly) Mewhorter of Upper Sandusky; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maude Peters of Hurricane.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Carolyn; five sisters, Gladys, Agnas, Zelma, Nellie and Rose Mary; and three brothers, James, Paul and the Rev. Ernist Sowards.

A homemaker, Mrs. Fredritz was a member of the Apostolic Gospel Church and the Order of Eastern Star, both of Upper Sandusky.

She and her husband, James, had formerly owned and operated Mt. Idy Lanes in Carey.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Apostolic Gospel Church, with the Rev. Greg Hord officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Beach Funeral Home, Carey, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Jesse E. (Monday) Zalaha
Columbian High School graduate

Word has been received of the death of Jesse Ellen (Monday) Zalaha, 74, who died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at her daughter Martha's home in Lake Mary, Fla.

She was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Whitley City, Ky., and graduated from Columbian High School in 1942.

She formerly lived in California. Her three sons, Tim, Scott and Tom, reside there. Also surviving are a brother, John, of Cocoa, Fla. and grandchildren.

Services were in Florida and burial was in Kentucky.

Orville Carroll
Clyde Whirlpool retiree

Orville Carroll, 77, of West Maple St., Clyde, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in The Arbors of Clyde.

He was born in Printer, Ky., Aug. 4, 1922, to Andrew J. and Fanny (Yates) Carroll. On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Mildred Akers, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Gregory Akers of Tiffin and Dale Carroll of Clyde; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Karen Jo) Akers McClenathan and Lisa Carroll, both of Clyde; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carman Carroll of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Ralph Carroll of Warren, Mich.; and three sisters, Mrs. Wallace (Vernia) Robinson of Lucasville, Ky., Verlie Johnson of Paintsville and Mrs. Ed (Verda) Hoffman of Clyde.

A son, Arvel Akers, died in 1966; two brothers, Raymond and Carmel Carroll and a sister, Edna Carroll, also are deceased.

Mr. Carroll retired in 1987 as a machinist from Whirlpool Corp., Clyde, where he had been employed for 35 years.

He played guitar in several area bands and was an avid Indians and Browns fan.

A resident of the Clyde area since 1951, he received his education in the Betsy Lane School in Kentucky.

The Rev. Jeff Nordhaus will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Friday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Internment will be in Bakertown cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Sandusky County Hospice, South Main Street, Clyde or St. Mary's School, Vine Street, Clyde.

Clarence R. 'Jack' Flanagan
Farmer/Hanson Pettibone retiree

Clarence R. "Jack" Flanagan, 77, of 127 Sears St., Bucyrus, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in the Chaplin Riverside Grant Hospital, Columbus.

He was born March 5, 1922, in Bay City, Mich., to John Flanagan and Edna Qienhan. His wife, Florence J. (Newton) Flanagan, died Aug. 27, 1988.

Survivors include: five sons, Kevin Newton of Mansfield, Randy L. Flanagan of Shelby, Leonard D. Flanagan of New Lexington and Thomas R. and Mike A. Flanagan; five daughters, Judy A. Byles of Bristol, Tenn., Mrs. Jack (Betty) Davis of Galion, Mary J. Flanagan of Shelby, Alicia C. Flanagan of Tiffin and Linda M. Shoemaker of Bloomville; a stepson, Stewart Conant of Duck River, Tenn.; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Three sisters, Evelyn Tass, Florence Kukla and Ruth, preceded him in death.

Mr. Flanagan, a farmer, also retired as a welder from Hanson Pettibone.

A veteran of World War II, he lived most of his life in Crawford and Seneca County.

Visitation for family and friends will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Schieder Funeral Home, Galion. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Galion.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the funeral home.

Bernard R. 'Red' Kirby
Tiffin crossing guard

Bernard R. "Red" Kirby, 72, of 7 W. Market St. Apt. 1003, died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Creston, W.Va., to Martin and Savilla (Posten) Kirby. His wife, Oral R. (Hemminger Kuzma) Kirby, survives.

Survivors also include: a son, David Kirby of Tiffin; two daughters, Barbara Thallman of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kathy Griffin of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; three stepchildren, Susan Moore of Columbus and David and Darrell Kuzma, both of Tiffin; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Sixteen brothers and sisters also are deceased.

Mr. Kirby, a crossing guard at St. Mary's School, Sandusky and Miami Street, also worked at the Glasshouse for 17 years and at Rems Electric Motors and Whitney Electric Motors.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific, he was a life member of VFW Post 2858, Military Order of Cooties 52 and AMVETS 42 Tiffin and the Eagles

An active fisherman and hunter, he was a Cleveland Browns fan.

He had resided in the Tiffin area since 1952.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with his nephew, Wayne Kirby, officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home Saturday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Christine S. Roth
Clyde Credit Union teller

Christine S. Roth, 49, of 1015 N. Main St. Lot 63, Clyde, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in the University Hospital, Cleveland.

She was born in Fremont Oct. 2, 1950, to James R. and Barbara J. (Keisle) Nycum. Her mother survives in Clyde. On Aug. 23, 1996, she married Michael A. Roth, who also survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Thomas Rigby of Clyde; four stepsons, Joseph A., Brian, Kenneth and Kyle Roth, all of Republic; two brothers, James A. Nycum of San Marcos, Calif., and Mark Nycum of Green Springs; and four sisters, Karen Burroughs and Mrs. Don (Susan) Miller, both of Clyde, and Mrs. John (Barbara) Kelley and Mrs. John (Lori) Talbot, both of Green Springs.

Her father is deceased.

Mrs. Roth, a 1968 graduate of Clyde High School, was employed as a teller at the Clyde Credit Union.

A long-time Clyde area resident, she was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, Clyde, of which she was past president.

The Rev. James Lewis will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Saturday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Fern Marie Clingman
Former Bettsville homemaker

Fern Marie Clingman, 78, a resident of the Independence House, Fostoria, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.

She was born in Michigan July 5, 1921, to Harlan and Ada Yant. Her husband, Ray M. Clingman, whom she married Feb. 12, 1941, died March 10, 1973.

Survivors include: a son, Ronald Clingman of Fostoria; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Jean Von Deylen of Waterville, Elaine Faber of Wauseon and Jane Bolley of Holgate.

Preceding her in death were: a son, Larry Clingman; a daughter, Barbara Warner; two brothers, LaVern and Richard Yant; and a sister, Mary Bateson.

Mrs. Clingman, a resident of the Bettsville area for 45 years, was a homemaker.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
