Thomas 'Jack' Ratliff
Former construction employee

Thomas "Jack" Ratliff, 71, of Arch Street, Clyde, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at his home.

He was born Feb. 10, 1929, in Pikeville, Ky., to Ransom and Sophie (Lee) Ratliff. His former wife, and mother of his children, Viola (Long) Ratliff, survives in Fremont. On Dec. 24, 1978, in Fremont, he married Mary Foreman, who survives in Clyde.

Other survivors include: three sons, Jack Ratliff of Fort Seneca, Roger Ratliff of Clyde and Eddie Ratliff of Republic; a daughter, Wanda Ratliff of Fremont; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Howard and Bill Ratliff, both of Fremont, and John B. Ratliff of Tiffin; and five sisters, Dorothy Campbell of Conneaut, Loreen Ratliff and Sue Liebold, both of Fremont, Louise Estep of Pikeville, Ky., and Ruth Ratliff of Wisconsin.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Steve, and a sister, Rosie.

Mr. Ratliff, a member of Local 480 Construction Trades, Sandusky, enjoyed gardening, fishing and talking on his CB under the handle "Power Wagon." He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Clyde.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Paul Finney officiating. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery, Adams Township.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Ada Edna Rathbun
Homemaker

Ada Edna Rathbun, 91, a resident of St. Francis Home, Green Springs, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Engle Young Funeral Home of Green Springs, with the Rev. James A. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The complete obituary will be in Tuesday's A-T.

John Billock Jr.
Retired plumber

John Billock Jr., 64, of 16277 TH 27, Carey, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at American Legion Post 344, Carey.

He was born May 8, 1935, in Carey, to John A. and Mary D. (Plott) Billock. His mother survives in Carey. He first married Sandra Bauer and they were divorced. In 1959, he married Donna McCartney, who died in May 1963. He later married Lola Mae Daughenbaugh, and they were divorced.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. David (Tracey) Thompson, Todd and Timothy Billock, all of Carey, Doug Bayes of Florida and Chris Bayes of Fostoria; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann McKinnon and Mrs. Gene (Victoria) Moore, both of Fostoria; and two brothers, Richard and Pete Billock, both of Carey.

His father also is deceased.

Mr. Billock, a plumber, retired in May 1998 after working 33 years for the Pipe Fitters Union Local 50 in Toledo. Prior to that he worked at Dible's Plumbing in Carey.

A 1953 graduate of Carey High School, he was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Earl Green American Legion Post 344, Black-Lamberjack VFW Post 3759, Eagles Aries 2198 and the Carey Conservation Club, all of Carey.

The Rev. Paul DeMoss will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-7520.

Ruth S. Weaver
Ohio Bell retiree/homemaker

Ruth S. Weaver, 82, a lifelong Salem Township resident, died at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, where she had resided since January 1995.

She was born in Salem Township, Wyandot County, Dec. 11, 1917, to Lewis F. and Beatrice (Shumaker) Weaver.

Surviving are five nieces and a nephew; a brother, Louis J. Weaver Jr. of Upper Sandusky; and cousins.

Four brothers, Eugene F., Robert, Leonard J. and Gerard "Jay," also are deceased.

A homemaker, Miss Weaver retired from the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. as an operator, after 37 years of employment. She also assisted on the family farm in Salem Township.

She enjoyed bowling and all sports, especially baseball and football and served as past score keeper for the K of C Softball Team.

A graduate of Salem Centralize School, Salem Township, she was a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem Township and a member of its Rosary Altar Society and the Ohio Bell Pioneers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem Township, with the Rev. Ernest Waechter officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where a Scripture service will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church.

William Ellsworth Yoakam
Retired Elmwood teacher

William Ellsworth Yoakam, 80, of 214 Ash Ave., Findlay, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2000, in the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Findlay, to William W. and Christena (Woodward) Yoakam. He had never married .

Survivors include: nieces and nephews and a sister, Mary Ellen Yoakam of Findlay.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Hareld Yoakam; and four sisters, Alta Bosworth, Leoma Hill, Elsie Stahl and Lena Yoakam.

Mr. Yoakam had been employed as a teacher at Elmwood High School, Wood County, retiring in the late 1970s. He also had worked as a transportation manager at General Mills in the 1950-60s.

A member of the Hancock County Senior Center, he was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, where he was the recipient of a Purple Heart.

Mr. Yoakum also held a master's degree in literature from Bowling Green State University and spoke seven languages.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, with the Rev. Darrell Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Van Horn cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Senior Center, Hancock County Agency on Aging, 423 Trenton Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Charles E. Brockway
Brother of Tiffin resident

Charles E. Brockway, 84, of St. Joseph Street, Fremont, died in the Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000.

He was born in Fremont, Nov. 11, 1915, to Earl Charles Brockway and Genevieve (Reed) Brockway-Schaefer. On June 8, 1947, he married Henrietta Bradford, who preceded him in death March 13, 1991.

Surviving are five children, Marcia Dlugcleski of Fostoria, Michael Brockway and Christina Meyers, both of Fremont, Timothy Brockway of Felton, Dela. and Douglas Brockway of Auburn, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Gene (Beatrice) Hull of Tiffin; and six grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were a son, Andrew Brockway; a brother, Burl Brockway; and two half sisters, Earlene Wheeler and Pat Smith.

Mr. Brockway, a World War II U.S. veteran, retired in 1980 from LOF Plastics in Fremont.

A lifetime Fremont area resident and a graduate of Fremont Ross High School, he was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Fremont and the Fremont VFW.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with interment following in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Florence L. Mizen
Tiffin resident

Florence L. Mizen, 80, of 253 Union St., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, Fla.

She was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Clyde to Floyd E. and Elma (Shipman) Smith. On May 9, 1939, she married William T. Mizen in St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He died June 24, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, William T. Mizen III and Thomas E. Mizen, both of Tiffin; eight daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Elizabeth) Agerter of McCutchenville, Mrs. Roger (Evelyn) Dearsman of Green Springs, Carolyn Mizen of Springfield, Mrs. Steven (Nancy) Baker of Danville, Mrs. Harold (Mary Lou) Powell of Union City, Pa., Mrs. Willie (Shirley) Frazier of Wharton, Mrs. Ted (Dianna) Distel and Mrs. Joe (Debora) Kubes of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Benson, of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Preceding her in death were a granddaughter; a sister, Marjorie Small; and a half sister, Eudora Sees.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Community Hospice Care, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ada Edna Rathbun
School board clerk

Ada Edna Rathbun, 91, Green Springs, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in St. Francis Home at Green Springs, where she had been in residence for three years.

Mrs. Rathbun was born in Cootes Store, Va., March 9, 1908, to John and Martha (Runion) Tuesday. She married Herbert Rathbun Nov. 25, 1931, in Tiffin.

Survivors include: three daughters, Helene Rathbun of Fremont, Janice Borer of Bowling Green and Mary Ann Kline of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Miss Velma Tusing, of Middletown.

Preceding her in death were her husband, four brothers and a sister.

She graduated from Green Springs High School in 1926; was the clerk of the Green Springs School Board of Education 1952-1969; and a member of the Green Springs United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. James A. Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Myrtle A. Wright
Fostoria resident

Myrtle A. Wright, 66, of 568 Bulger Ave., Fostoria, died at 9:21 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born Sept. 13, 1933, to Grant and Mary A. (Bennett) Arnold in Lewisburg, Pa. She was married in 1955 to Howard R. Wright in Watsontown, Pa. He survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two sons, Grant W. Reynolds of Findlay and Scott W. Booth of North Baltimore; six grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Arnold of Watsontown, Pa., Grant Arnold of Milton, Pa., and Abraham Arnold of New Columbia, Pa.; three sisters, Madilene French of New Columbia, Pa., Virginia Poust of Watsontown, Pa., and Shirley Snyder of Turbotville, Pa.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Arnold; and a half brother, Harry Arnold.

Services and burial are private and there will be no visitation.

Funeral arrangements are by Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Esther M. Wendt
Fostoria dance instructor

Esther M. Wendt, 93, of 519 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, died at 2:42 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born to John and Emma (Flechtner) Comer June 7, 1906, in Denver, Colo. She married Walter L. Wendt June 16, 1929. He died Dec. 3, 1979.

Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy Malone and Karen Wendt of Fostoria; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Fostoria High School in 1924, attended Heidelberg College and graduated in dramatic art and dancing in 1927 at the Graham School of Expression, Toledo. She was a teacher at the Wainwright Conservatory in Fostoria and at the Karm School of Music in Tiffin, having classes in many of the surrounding towns. She was a homemaker; a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, where she was a former Sunday school superintendent of the primary department and member of the Hope 60 Club; member and past president of Fostoria Lineage Research Society, Fostoria Women's Club, and Fostoria Historical Society.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Carl Kessler officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.

Charles T. Johnson
American Standard retiree

Charles T. Johnson of 2609 Spearhead Court, Sidney, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.

He was born in Greensboro, N.C., to Talton and Emma Campbell Johnson. His wife, Bertie (Waters) Johnson, survives.

Other survivors include: seven children, Ralph Johnson of Nome, Alaska, Robert Johnson of Surprise, Ariz., Ronnie Johnson of Denton, Texas, Rita Kuegler of Findlay, Linda Conner of Columbus, Thomas Johnson of Kent and Alicia Myers of Marion; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Nellie Phillips of Roman, Calif.

Two sisters are deceased.

At age 5, Mr. Johnson moved to Tiffin and was raised at the former Junior Order United American Mechanics Orphanage. He moved to Shelby County in 1982 from Tiffin.

A member of Trinity Reform Church of Tiffin, he retired after 40 years of employment at the American Standard Inc.

An avid bowler, baseball player and fan, he also was a member of the American Bowlers Association and the Tiffin Moose Lodge.

The Rev. George Canade will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery, Sidney.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Junior Order United American Mechanics Orphanage, 9 Ash St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.
