J. Clarence "Shorty" Swartz
Retired mechanic

J. Clarence "Shorty" Swartz, 85, of 7 Beechwood Dr., died at 12:22 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Mr. Swartz was born March 6, 1915, to Frank and Jennie (Frost) Swartz in Mifflin Twp. in Wyandot County. His first marriage was to Ruth Hart. He later married Carolyn Fertzler who is deceased. Surviving are a son, Marion Swartz of Okeechobee, Fla.; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Vent of Upper Sandusky; numerous nephews and nieces; and a special friend, Kathryn Chance of Tiffin.

Preceding him in death were: an infant son; a grandchild; four brothers, Otto, Ralph, Dale and Paul; and four sisters, Grace Faye Lodge, Winona Karcher, Inez Foreman and Lola May Craig.

He was a mechanic for many years having worked at Stows and Stubbs in Upper Sandusky; mechanic at National Machinery, Coppus Motors and Sattler Motors, all in Tiffin; a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Eagles #402, Tiffin Moose Lodge #846 where he received the Pilgrim degree and also served for five years as governor.

Graveside services will be conducted at a later date at Salem United Methodist cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his family in care of the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home which is in charge of the arrangements.

J. Clarence Swartz memorial
A Memorial service for J. Clarence "Shorty" Swartz, who died March 10, 2000, will be held at 6:45 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2000 at the Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, 1146 N. St. Rt. 53

The Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Estelle Emerine
Retired beauty shop owner

Mary Estelle Emerine, 82, of 111 S. Countyline St., Fostoria, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born in Putnam County Dec. 26, 1917, to Charles and Ella (Leady) Higley. She married Harold N. Emerine on Oct. 15, 1940, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church and he survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are: a son, John H. Emerine of Alvada; three daughters, Mrs. James (Karen) Lutz of Chatfield, Mrs. Cliff (Rosemary) Gardner of Findlay, Mrs. Darryl (Veronica) Laughlin of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lawrence Higley of Leipsic.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Orville and William Higley; four sisters, Velma Roof, Ruby Taviano, Lucille Romer and Hallie Lang.

She was the retired owner and operator of Mary's Beauty Shop in Fostoria from 1946-1980 and a member of the St. Wendelin Catholic Church.

Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday with the Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wendelin Catholic Church and burial following in the St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made in the form of Mass Intentions to the church or to the Community Hospice Care, Tiffin.

Lillian L. Slessman
Fremont area resident

Lillian L. Slessman, 85, of CR 212, Fremont, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Tiffin on Jan. 6, 1915, to Ott and Mary (Wagner) Ball. She married George M. Slessman on May 14, 1936, who died May 5, 1961.

She is survived by a daughter, Metta S. Leonard of Fremont; two grandsons, Charles M. Leonard of Ypsilanti, Mich. and David L. Leonard with the U. S. Army in Boblington, Germany.

Mrs. Slessman graduated from Clyde High School in 1932; she and her husband owned/operated the Quonsel Hut restaurant and grill until retirement in 1966; a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fremont; and a former member for many years at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clyde.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Herzog officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Building Fund, Smith Road., Fremont.

Helen A. Fought
Clyde homemaker

Helen A. Fought, 84, of Fairhome Avenue, Clyde, died Friday, March 10, 2000, in the Bellevue Hospital.

She was born in York Twp. of Sandusky County on Jan. 15, 1916, to Fred and Maude (Hartley) Chapman. She married Willard E. Fought Nov. 30, 1935.

Mrs. Fought is survived by her husband; a son, Donald E. of Missori City, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Judith) Miller of Fremont; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Joseph of Green Springs.

Preceding her in death were a grandson, Matthew Miller; two brothers, William and Fred; three sisters, Elsie Thurn, Elizabeth Myers and Winona Frankfarther.

She attended York Twp. schools and graduated from Green Springs in 1933; a homemaker; worked with her husband in the wholesale fruit and vegetable business; and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clyde.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Race Street, Clyde.

Elizabeth Stockmaster
School custodian

Elizabeth Stockmaster, 89, of 15448 CR 46, Bellevue, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center.

She was born June 11, 1910, in Willard to Benjamin and Cecilia (Wise) Daniel. She married Herbert Stockmaster on June 9, 1936, in St. Sebastian Church and he died in 1968.

Surviving are three sons, Eugene, Marvin J. and Gerald P. all of Bellevue; a daughter, Roseann (Harold) Reinhart of Tiffin; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Florian Daniel of Bellevue.

Preceding her in death were two sons, Norbert and Herbert; four brothers, Joseph, Leo, Paul and Elvos.

Mrs. Stockmaster was custodian at St. Michael's School; worked at Baxters Meat Market; a member of St. Michael's Church, Altar Rosary Society, Bellevue Senior Citizens Center; and enjoyed playing cards, quilting and baking.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Church with the Rev. John Nagel officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

Calling hours is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday with the Rosary being recited at 8:30 p.m. at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to Steeple Fund, St. Michael's Catholic Church.

James F. Rowlett
Columbus, Ind. resident

James F. Rowlett, 74, of Columbus, Ind., died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Ind.

He was born June 20, 1925, in Corn Creek, Ky. to Albert W. and Lottie E. (Williams) Rowlett. He married Jane Thompson in May of 1950 and she died in April of 1952. He then married Elizabeth Purvis March 18, 1955 and she died April 21, 1993.

Survivors include: four daughters, Sheila Richardson, Edinburgh, Ind., Pat Lucas of Columbus, Sue Boldery of Taylorsville and Tracy Caldwell of Scipio, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard and Cecil of Orleans, Ind, Virgil of Hanover, Ind., and Carroll of Rushville, Ind.; three sisters, Lena Boldery of Milton, Ky., Mary Heitz and Norma Baker of Columbus, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, William "Pete" and Nelson.

He was a World War II Army veteran; employed as a lock smith/construction worker; and a member of V. F. W. and American Legion.

Funeral services are being conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Chapel in North Vernon, Ind. with burial in the Vernon cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the World War II Memorial.

Naomi Lorene Spencer
Tiffin resident's sister

Naomi Lorene Spencer, 81, of 101 W. Main St., Vanlue, died at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, in Winebrenner Village in Findlay.

She was born May 30, 1918, in Ravenswood, W.Va. to Rev. Leonard G. and Chloe E. (Nuzum) Crew. On June 27, 1936, she married Kenneth W. Spencer in Harrisville, W.Va.

In addition to her husband, other survivors include: three sons, James of Medina, Darrell of Antwerp, William of Fort Mill, S.C.; six daughters, Donna Arthur of Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Dennis (Esther) King of Findlay, Mrs. Tim (Patricia) Braselton of Lees Summit, Mo., Mrs. Steve (Sandra) Reilly of Colbert, Ga., Mrs. Ron (Julia) Harden of Fostoria; Mrs. Scott (Joy) Mills of Vanlue; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. James (Marjorie) Kizer of Tiffin.

Two sisters, Opal Broadwater and Geneva Sims, are deceased.

Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker; worked at Findlay Industries, Brinkman Turkey Farm and Cannery in Arlington, and Webb's Egg Farm in Findlay; a charter member of Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene of Carey where she was choir director and song leader, Sunday School teacher and director, Bible School director, Missionary Society president, a church board member and served as a church steward. She was also a member of the Vanlue Senior Citizens and the Vanlue Alumni Band Mothers.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, Carey, with the Rev. Buck Traylor and the Rev. Harley Duncan officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Bloom cemetery, Vanlue.

Calling hours are 1-9 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey; also, one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Vernon Nazarene College or Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene (c/o funeral home).

Michael G. Staab
Bellevue farmer

Michael G. Staab, 54, of N. TR 80, Bellevue, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born Oct. 31, 1945, in Bellevue to Walter and Gloria (Randall) Staab.

Surviving are a son, Richard Staab of Bellevue; a daughter, Ann Root of Bellevue; four grandchildren; a brother, Richard of Monroeville; two sisters, Ann Barr of Bellevue and Kathy Young of Berlin Heights; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Jim; and daughters, Kelly and Angel.

Mr. Staab was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed at Routh Packing, Sandusky, for 25 years until he retired in 1991 due to disability. He was also a farmer, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Bellevue, and American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. John Nagle officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery with military honors conducted by Sandusky American Legion Post 83 and the U. S. Army.

Visitation will be private.

Wyatt Jack Eads
Infant

Wyatt Jack Eads, 8 days old, of Bellevue died Friday, March 10, 2000, at the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born March 2, 2000, in Bellevue to Timothy J. and Sarah J. (Blossom) Eads.

He is survived by his parents of Bellevue; a brother, Rendall, and a sister, Courtney, both at home; grandparents Jane Eads of Bellevue, Jack and Delores Eads of Frankfort, Ind., and Janet Blossom and Larry Blossom of Indianapolis; great-grandparents, Catherine Blossom and Loren and Mary McWhinney, all of Indianapolis; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Bellevue, where the body will lie in state after 10 a.m. Pastor Douglas Lewis will be officiating and burial will be in the Bellevue cemetery.

Visiting hours will be 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to the Wyatt Eads Memorial Fund, c/o Timothy and Sarah Eads.

Robert W. Ziegler
Retired farmer

Robert W. Ziegler, 74, formerly of 3699 E. CR 6 died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Mr. Ziegler was born March 23, 1925, in Tiffin, to Jesse W. H. and Opal M. (Cook) Ziegler.

Survivors are: two sisters, Mrs. Frances Pennington of Tiffin and Mrs. Forrest (Janice) Zellner Jr. of Sycamore; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired from farming in 1988 and was a member of Baseline St. Johns United Church of Christ, Bloomville; Eden Grange 2550; I. O. O. F. Lodge; Pomona State and National Grange; and Honey Creek Rebekah Lodge 836.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth, the chaplain of Fairhaven Community, officiating. Burial will be at St. Jacob's cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to Fairhaven Community.

A. Jeannette Marshall
Bascom native/homemaker

A. Jeannette Marshall, 86, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Friday, March 10, 2000, in Poudre Hospital, Larimer County, Fort Collins, where she had been a patient for five days.

She was born in Bascom Feb. 6, 1914, to Virgil and Myrtle Mae (Heckert) Haugh. Her husband, Alva "Adge" Richard Marshall, whom she married in 1928, in Bowling Green, Ky., died July 27, 1949.

Survivors include: six children, Gerald "Jerry" Marshall of rural Tiffin, Thomas Marshall of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Timothy and Verro "Pete" Marshall, both of Fort Collins, Mrs. Al (Nanette) Loewen of California and Mrs. Dave (Twila) Perry of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Jack T. Haugh of Milan, Ind.; and two sisters, Alice Grieve and Mrs. Roland "Tom" (Madeline) Sendelbach, both of the Tiffin area.

Two sons, an infant and a young child, Richard Marshall; and a brother, Thomas R. Haugh, also are deceased.

Mrs. Marshall, a homemaker, was a member of the First Free Methodist Church of Fort Collins, and its Senior Blessing Club. She also did needlework and crafts for church bazaars and for gifts.

The Rev. Jerry K. Wiles will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Wednesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sand Ridge cemetery, Bascom.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
