Memorial services for John E. Doneghy Jr., 87, 83 Kensington Ave., who died Thursday, March 16, 2000, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Fred Akers will be the reader.

Burial was in Seneca Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.

Bertram L. Leslie
Former Upper Sandusky resident

Bertram L. Leslie, 87, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in the Wesley Glen Health Center, Columbus. Since 1942, he had resided at 359 E. Royal Forest Blvd., Columbus.

Mr. Leslie was born June 17, 1913, in Mifflin Twp. of Wyandot County to Edwin R. and Bertha (Fox) Leslie. On Dec. 19, 1935, he married Evelyn B. Culver who survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Ronald of Riverside, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Connie) Veley of Powell; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, James W. of Upper Sandusky, Robert of Clearwater, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs. Loreing (Letta) Smith of Columbus.

A daughter, Susan Violet, died in infancy.

He retired from HER Realtors, Worthington; was an employee of Curtiss Wright, Armstrong Furnace, Robertson Heating and Squire Heating; a former member of Wesley Chapel, Upper Sandusky; a current member of Maple Grove Methodist Church in Columbus, Masonic Warpole Chapter #176 of Upper Sandusky, Home Builders Association, Ohio Gun Collectors Association; former Cubmaster for Boy Scouts at Maple Grove; helped construct many of Camp Ken-Jockety buildings for Girl Scouts of West Jefferson; a life member of Whetstone Booster Association, Columbus, where he was a charter member; enjoyed singing in the church quartet, glee clubs, singing solos for weddings; and enjoyed playing golf and hunting.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Dr. Joel Baer officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, c/o of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

James F. Brecht
Carey school custodian

James F. Brecht, 72, of 520 S. Patterson St., Carey, died at 5:22 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Brecht was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Wood County to Floyd L. and Pauline (Kleckner) Brecht. On July 25, 1947, he married Ernestine A. Mitsch in the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carey.

Surviving are: his wife; three daughters, Nan Snowberger of Carey, Mrs. Vernon (Annette) Orians of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Jeffrey (Linda) Huff of Bloomdale; five grandchildren; and a sister, M. Elaine Brecht of Findlay.

Preceding him in death were a grandson, John F. Orians; a brother, Jack L.; two sisters, Jeanette Bishop and Joan Wolfrom.

He was a graduate of Mt. Cory High School in 1946; worked as a foreman at Swan Rubber in Carey, Essex in Tiffin, U-Brand Plastics in Upper Sandusky, and retired from Carey schools where he was a custodian for ten years; a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carey; and enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Paul DeMoss officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove cemetery at Carey.

Visiting hours will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Wyandot County Home Health or the church, c/o of the funeral home.

Rosemary Stytle
Relative of area residents

Rosemary Stytle, 83, formerly of South Detroit Aveue, Toledo, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000.

Her husband, Leo E. Stytle, is deceased.

Surviving are two sons, Leo H. Stytle of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Eugene Stytle of Perrysburg; two grandchildren; and many cousins in the Seneca County area.

Her parents, Hugo Max and Gertrude (Marks) Thormahlen, and grandparents, Michael and Rose (La Fontaine) Marks, also are deceased.

Mrs. Stytle, a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, worked at the former Waldorf Hotel as a PBX operator for 18 years, retiring in 1979.

Services will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Road, Toledo, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Visitation is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Northwest Ohio Hospice Association, 30000 River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.

Vera Theresa Sheeley
West Davis Street homemaker

Vera Theresa Sheeley, 90, 37 W. Davis St., died at 11:06 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Dec. 30, 1909, in Seneca County, to Burton A. and Minnie Helen (Smith) Michaels. On June 10, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Clifford W. Sheeley, who survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: a son, Paul Sheeley of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Ruth) Schaffer of Monroeville; a sister, Sister Mary Judith, OSU of Toledo; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Raymond, Paul, Ralph and Vern Michaels; and a grandson, Kevin Schaffer.

A homemaker, Mrs. Sheeley was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She also was a member of the MNI Club.

The Rev. Frank Murd will be the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be at 3:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Community Hospice Care Care of Tiffin.

Thelma L. Kirschner
General Electric retiree

Thelma L. Kirschner, 87, of 2445 Bishop Road, Spring Hill, Fla., died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, in the Topic House, Spring Hill.

She was born in Tiffin, Nov. 3, 1912, to Vere and Mable (Huffman) Swander. Her husband, Howard Kirschner, whom she married in August 1936, in Tiffin, preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1989.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Burdell (Nancy Jo) Buckham Schwiebert of Napoleon; three grandchildren, Brad Buckham, Beth Maddox and Brian Copely; and six great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were an infant son, a brother, Olin Swander, and a sister, Alyce Mae Hunker.

Mrs. Kirschner, who retired in 1977 from General Electric after 25 years of employment, was the first woman to become a foreman at G.E. She served as union president for several years. She also worked at Harold's Department Store in the children's department.

A life-long member of First Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School during the 1940s-50s, she was an associate member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lake Placid, Fla.

Mrs. Kirschner and her husband moved to Lake Placid in 1987.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Margaret Marks officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Support Group.

Marlene L. Fraley
Fostoria homemaker

Marlene L. Fraley, 56, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2000, at her home at 637 Lexington Ave., Fostoria.

She was born in Bellevue April 15, 1943, to the late Albert O. Burrow and Evelyn M. (Frankart) Perse. They survive in Marblehead. On May 29, 1965, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia, she married Fred J. Fraley. He died April 24, 1995.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Lynn (Deborah) Watkins of Rawson, Mrs. Jim (Jennifer) Sherman and Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) Hopple, both of Fostoria; a brother, William J. Perse of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Gene (Janet) Gottfried of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Charles (Diane) Brant of Fostoria; Mrs. Richard (Kathy) Gower of Tiffin and Anne Beasley of Marblehead; her companion, Bill Balmforth of Fostoria; and 10 grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Mark Andrew Fraley; two daughters, Kathy Anne Fraley and Linda J. Dillon; and her stepfather, Wilbur J. Perse.

Mrs. Fraley, a homemaker, had worked in Environmental Services the past three years at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

A 1961 graduate of Fostoria High School, she was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she had served on the Chancel; Ladies of the Moose 1567 and Eagles Auxiliary 430, all of Fostoria.

The Rev. Carl Kessler will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Knollcrest cemetery, near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care.

Nancy Gamarra Wynn
Legislative researcher

Word has been received of the death of Nancy (Gamarra) Wynn, 68, of Falls Church, Va., who died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000.

She was born in Cincinnati in December 1931, the youngest child of Alex and Elsie Gamarra. Her husband, Colonel Wynn, survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Edward of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Susan of Blackbird, Va.; and a sister, Betty of Ohio.

Mrs. Wynn, a graduate of Columbian High School and Lake Erie College for Women, received a master's degree from Harvard and Radcliff.

She worked for National Security in Cap Cod, Mass.., and became a legislative researcher for the Library of Congress.

She was active in Falls Church Episcopal Church and in Republican campaigns.

A Christian burial took place in Arlington National cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice.

R. Hugh Harnden
Whirlpool retiree/fruit farmer

R. Hugh Harnden, 73, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at his home on West Maple Street, Clyde.

He was born in Clyde, April 29, 1926, to Ralph and Nellie Marguerite (Taylor) Harnden. His mother survives in Clyde. On March 1, 1949, he married Rose Mary Bartson, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Hal Harnden of Fremont; four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Lianne) Bonnette and Yvonne Harnden, both of Clyde, Mrs. Daniel (Holly) Fultz of Bellevue and Karen Harnden of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

His father and a grandson are deceased.

Mr. Harnden, a fruit farmer, retired in 1991 from Whirlpool Corp., where he had been employed as a press operator.

A 1944 Clyde High School graduate, he was a member of Clyde American Legion and VFW and the County Council of Legion Commanders.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Bakertown cemetery, Clyde, where military graveside rites will be provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion..

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Clyde Library, the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.

Edward R. Moyer
CPA/Bellevue businessman

Edward R. Moyer, 71, of 124 Ridge Drive, Bellevue, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, in Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Fla., while at his winter residence.

He was born May 20, 1928, in Bellevue, to the late Claude and Marie (Thiede) Moyer. He married Marian Petzel on Feb. 17. 1968. She survives.

Survivors also include: four sons, Stanton E. Moyer of Fremont, Jeffrey A. Moyer of Grand Rapids, Mich., Stephen A. Moyer of Columbus and Scott E. Moyer of Bellevue; a granddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. Theodore (Martha "Marty") Ball of Bellevue.

His first wife, Lois Glasgo; and a daughter, Joanne Moyer, also are deceased.

Mr. Moyer, a 1946 graduate of Bellevue High School, graduated in 1950 from Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and a major in accounting. He completed the General Electric Business Training Course in 1960 and became a certified public accountant in 1962.

He served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Finance Corps, NATO Forces, West Germany from 1950-52.

An employee of the Bellevue Implement Co. Inc. 1952-56 as an accountant and salesman, he worked as plant accountant for the General Electric Bellevue Lamp Plant 1956-61. In 1961 he opened his own firm, Edward R. Moyer CPA Accounting, until 1976 when he sold his practice and accepted a position with the First National Bank of Bellevue, where he served as executive vice president and president 1979-93 . He served as chairman of the board of directors 1985-95, and president, chairman of the board and CEO of First Bancshares Inc. (One-Bank Holding Company). He also was a member of the board of directors of First National Bank 1964-95.

He served as director of the Independent State Bank of Ohio in Columbus 1988-95; as director of the Bellevue Development Corp. when it was formed until the present, where he was president in 1987 and 1995. He served on The Bellevue Hospital Board of Trustees, where he was chairman of the finance committee, president, vice president, treasurer and member of the executive committee. He was an advisory board trustee for the Firelands Campus of Bowling Green State University, Huron 1983-89; was a member of the Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce, where he served as treasurer and director; received the Citizen of the Year Award in 1988; was a member of the Ohio Bankers Association, where he served as director; president, vice president of Group Six of the Ohio Bankers Association and a Member Bank PAC committee. He organized the Firelands Chapter of the Ohio CPAs in 1968, where he served as president and was director of the Ohio Society of CPAs.

A member and director of the Bellevue Junior Chamber of Commerce 1954-63, he was awarded Man of the Year in 1962. He was a lifelong member of the Republican Party, having served as president of the McKinley Club, Huron County Republican Club, the executive committee of Huron County, where he was treasurer 1968-71. He was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1968 and attended the inaugurations in Washington, D.C. in 1969 and 1981.

A councilman-at-large for the Bellevue City Council 1958-60, he was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served as elder, trustee, deacon, vice president of council and treasurer.

He also was a 32nd degree Mason in the Bellevue and Toledo lodges; a member of the Bellevue Elks Lodge, where he served as secretary; American Legion Post 46 and Kiwanis Club, both of Bellevue, where he served as director. He also organized and was president of the Vista Villa Association, Marblehead.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue, with The Rev. David Wietelmann officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue City cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, where Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church; the Edward R. Moyer Scholarship Fund, in care of the Bellevue High School, Oakland Avenue, Bellevue, Ohio 44811; Bellevue Hospital Foundation, 811 Northwest St., Bellevue; or Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.

Violetta Elizabeth Lessig
Former Carey homemaker

Violetta Elizabeth Lessig, 93, formerly of Carey, died at 3:45 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born March 17, 1907, in Bluffton, to John and Esse (Cramer) Patterson. Her husband, Lloyd E. Lessig, whom she married June 14, 1924, died July 13, 1990.

Survivors include: four sons, Richard Lessig of Arlington, James Lessig of Carey, Roger Lessig of Vanlue and Robert of Ashland; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Verna) Ogg of Findlay and Mrs. James (Marilyn) Searson of Dola; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; five step- great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Edythe Simons and Mrs. Al (Doris) Huntley, both of Findlay.

Three brothers, Don, Gail and Kenneth Patterson, and a sister, Marceile Roth, are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Lessig was a former member of York Street Church in Marseilles.

The Rev. Robert Simons will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Nursing Home Activity Fund.
