Larry L. King, 44, of 307 Monroe St., Bettsville, died Friday, March 31, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. King was born Feb. 23, 1956, to Lyle F. and Elizabeth "Bett" (Barns) King.

He is survived by his father of Bettsville; two sons, Eric King of Bettsville, Jayvid Opp of Tiffin; two grandchildren; two brothers, Michael F. of Green Springs, Jay Dee of Fayetteville, Pa.; and a sister, Linda Eidenour of Fostoria.

His mother preceded him in death.

A lifetime resident of Bettsville, he was an independent contractor/merchandiser.

There will be no visitation or services.

The Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville is in charge of arrangements.

Frances M. Dow
Former Carey homemaker

Frances M. Dow, 92, formerly of Carey and had resided at St. Francis Home for the past year, died at 4 a.m., Thursday, March 30, 2000, at the St. Francis Home.

She was born Feb. 4, 1908, in New Washington to Anthony and Katherine (Mary) Yanka. She married John M. Dow April 29, 1950, and he died in 1979.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lucille Yanka of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and John Yanka; and a sister, Rose Rall.

Mrs. Dow was a 1926 graduate of New Washington High School; a bookkeeper for 20th Century Hatchery in New Washington; a member of The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation of Carey; former member of the Rosary Altar Society; a homemaker and seamstress, she did sewing for The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Original Shrine Church, Carey, with the Rev. Ernest Waechter officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with a Christian Wake service at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Cornclia Mary Steinmetz
Fostoria residents' sister

Cornclia Mary "Connie" Steinmetz, 82, of Pemberville Road, Pemberville and formerly of Woodville, died Friday, March 31, 2000, upon arrival at St. Charles emergency room.

She was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Leopoldt, Ind., to William E. and Ellen (Peters) Cassidy. On April 29, 1944, she married Robert E. Steinmetz at St. Wendelin Church.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Dale of Salt Lake City, Utah, John of Woodville; a daughter, Carolyn Knepper of Woodville; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norbert Cassidy of Tiffin, James Cassidy of Fostoria; four sisters, Bernice Holman, Rosalie Holman, Irene Holman, and Marjorie Cassidy, all of Fostoria.

Two brothers, Mathias and Omar Joe, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Steinmetz was a homemaker; head of yard goods department at J.C. Penney Co. at the Woodville Mall retiring in 1983; a member of the St. Michael Church, Gibsonburg, and of the Altar and Rosary Society; and loved sewing, cooking and baking for her family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Gibsonburg, with burial in the St. Lawrence cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home, 319 W. Madison St., Gibsonburg, where a Catholic Wake Service will be at 8:30 Monday.

Memorials may be made for Masses or donations to St. Michael's Church, E. Madison St., Gibsonburg.

Morgan Lynn Grose
Arlington resident

Morgan Lynn Grose, 19, of 201 Powell Dr, Arlington, was pronounced dead at the scene of an auto accident on U.S. Rt. 23 in Wyandot County Thursday, March 30, 2000, as was her her son, Isaac Allen Grose.

She was born Aug. 11, 1980, in Columbus, to Patrick and Diana (Courtright) Altvater. She married Roy A. Grose on Aug. 22, 1998 and he survives.

Also surviving are her parents of Arlington; a brother, Michael P. Altvater of Arlington; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Courtright of McComb; maternal great-grandmothers, Mrs. Beatrice Sizemore of Carey and Mrs. Mabel Courtright of McComb; and a paternal grandfather, Clair "Mike" Altvater of Upper Sandusky.

Mrs. Grose graduated from Arlington High School in 1998 where she was in the Arlington High School All-Brass Marching Band, the band secretary, the pep band and played volleyball; a member of the North Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Salem Twp., Wyandot County and of the Young Women's Fellowship of the church. She had been a restaurant employee.

Funeral services will at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Good Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Jonathan P. Baker officiating. Interment will be in the Schoenberger cemetery, Salem Twp., Wyandot Co.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Crates Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Arlington, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Memorial tributes may be given to the North Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 320 Maple Dr., Upper Sandusky, 43351.

Isaac Allen Grose
Infant son

Isaac Allen Grose, one-year son, of Troy A. and Morgan (Altvater) Grose, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in St. Vincent's Hospital as a result of an auto accident on U.S. Rt. 23 in Wyandot County. His mother was dead at the scene of the same accident.

Isaac was born June 9, 1998, in Findlay.

Survivors include: his father of Arlington; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Altvater of Arlington; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Courtright of McComb; maternal great-grandfather, Clair "Mike" Altvater of Upper Sandusky; maternal great-great grandmothers, Mrs. Beatrice Sizemore of Carey and Mrs. Mabel Courtright of McComb; paternal grandmothers, Mrs. Debbie Montgomery of Jackson, N.J. and Mrs. Sue Grose of North Baltimore; paternal grandfathers, Kevin Grose and Gary Pingle, both of Findlay; paternal great-grandmothers, Mrs. Carol Montgomery, Mrs. Madelyn Pingle and Mrs. Sharon Stevenson, all of Findlay; paternal great-great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Blanton of Coldwater, Mich. and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Gadie of South Bend, Ind.; and paternal great-grandfather, William J. Grose of Carey.

He was a baptized member of North Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Salem Twp., Wyandot County.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in the Good Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Jonathan P. Baker officiating. Intermet will be in the Schoenberger cemetery, Salem Twp., Wyandot County.

Eileen M. Schares
Former Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Eileen M. Schares, 68, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000.

Mrs. Schares was born in Tiffin on May 2, 1931, to Ralph and Clara (Ridenour) Kelbley. She married Richard J. Schares on Dec. 11, 1948, in Tiffin and he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Richard Jr. of Ellijay, Ga., David of Bloomingburg, N.Y.; four daughters, Kristine Dobson of Cumberland, Maine, Karen Schares of Cold Brook, N.Y., Dianna Thompson of Clovis, N.M., Laurie Benzenberg of Pine Bush, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Jack Kelbley of Findlay, Charles Kelbley of Havertown, Pa., and Steve Kelbley of Charlotte, N.C.

Mrs. Schares was a sales marketer for Century 21, Poughkeepsie, for 15 years until retiring in 1990; a member of St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction; Girl Scout leader for ten years; a volunteer for the American Cancer Society; and was an avid gardener.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601.

John W. Matz
Republic resident

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., April 16, at the Zion United Church of Christ in Fireside with the Rev. Candy Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Fireside cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with Masonic services at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Matz, 80, of 5120 N. Twp. Rd. 78, Republic, died Wednesday morning, March 29, 2000, at Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.

Phyllis M. Niederlander
Rural Green Springs homemaker

Phyllis M. Niederlander, 62, of 8353 E. TR 178, Green Springs, died at 8:08 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Lucas County, Toledo, where she had been a patient for 12 hours.

She was born in Grundy, Va., July 13, 1937, to the late Caudle and Lena McClanahan. On Feb. 5, 1955, in Fremont, Ind., she married Paul P. Niederlander, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Robert P. Niederlander of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Rita) Hoffman of Kansas, Ohio; four grandchildren; three brothers, Arvil McClanahan of Bloomville and Elmer and William McClanahan, both of Green Springs; and three sisters, Mrs. Clyde (Margie) Deel, Mrs. Kip (Thelma) Lee and Mrs. James (Sue) Rohrbach, all of Green Springs.

A homemaker, Mrs. Niederlander was a member of the Church of God in Sandusky. She had resided in the Green Springs area since 1955.

The Rev. Richard Porter will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Monday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Feed the Children Fund.

G. Lee Burns
Rehabilitation field employee

G. Lee Burns, 53, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at his home at 64 W. Market St.

He was born in Paulding, Aug. 21, 1946, to Leroy C. and Virginia R. (Noneman) Burns. His mother survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Alicia Knight of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, LeAnne M. Burns of Lynchburg, Va.; and two brothers, Robert F. Burns of Fostoria and Michael J. Burns of Denver, Colo.

His father is deceased.

Mr. Burns, who worked in the rehabilitation field, had previously been employed by St. Francis Home and Rehabilitation Centre, Green Springs. He also worked in rehabilitation in Tiffin.

A 1964 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, he also graduated from Findlay College.

He was a member of Harvest Jubilee Family Church, Findlay.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Pastor Donald Friar officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the University of Findlay.

The Rev. Richard J. Hoshock
Former St. Mary associate pastor

The Rev. Richard J. Hoshock, 85, of 26869 Ayersville Road, Defiance, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, April 2, 2000, in the Laurels of Defiance.

He was born in Defiance, Aug. 27, 1914, to John B. and Kathryn (Asbacher) Hoshock.

Surviving are two brothers, Robert S. and Gerald C. Hoshock, both of Defiance, and nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Hoshock, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance, received his education at St. Mary's School, Defiance; St. Joseph's, Collegeville; and St. Gregory's Seminary and St. Mary's Seminary, both of Cincinnati.

He was ordained May 18, 1940, at St. Francis de Sales in Toledo by the Most Rev. Karl J. Alter D.D. Following his ordination, he was appointed to St. Francis Convent and Rest Home in Tiffin and served as administrator at St. Aloysius Church in Republic. From November 1940-1953 he served at Little Flower in Toledo as chaplain; as visitation monestery assistant chaplain at St. Francis Convent, Sylvania; 1953-59 he was at Immaculate Conception Church, Toledo as associate pastor; in 1963 he was chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Toledo; in 1964 he served at St. Paul Church, Hamler and at Immaculate Conception Church, Deshler, as pastor.

In 1967 he was pastor of St. Elizabeth's in Richfield Center; in 1969 he served as pastor at St. Bernard's in New Washington and in 1971 he was associate pastor at St. Michaels, Toledo.

In 1972 he was appointed associate pastor at St. Mary Parish in Tiffin and July 1, 1985 he retired.

Father Hoshock received the 1997-98 Catholic Elementary School Distinguished Graduate award, by St. Mary's School.

Bishop James R. Hoffman will be the celebrant assisted by the Rev. Edward Schleter as homilist at the 11 a.m. Wednesday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance. Burial will take place in Riverside cemetery, Defiance.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Tuesday in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance and 7-9 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Defiance with Reception of the Body and Vespers starting at 7 p.m.. Visitation also will be 8:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church Wednesday, where a Knights of Columbus rosary service will be at 10 a.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church Development, Defiance; or the Caring Way Hospice of Defiance.

Lawrence R. Schatt
Whirlpool Corp. retiree

Lawrence R. Schatt, 81, of 103 Walnut St., Clyde, died at 9:14 a.m. Sunday, April 2, 2000, in Mansfield General Hospital, Richland County, Mansfield, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

He was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Fremont, to Walter W. and Arvada (Dodway) Schatt. His wife of 59 years, Marie C. (Rine) Schatt, whom he married Sept. 28, 1940, in Milbury, survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Diane) Wahl of rural Clyde and Mrs. Michael (Mary Lou) Bordner of Green Springs; five grandchildren; two brothers, Donald and Robert Schatt, both of Fremont; and a half-sister, Margaret Trehan, also of Fremont.

A brother, Irvin Schatt, is deceased.

Mr. Schatt, who had attended the Fremont schools, retired from Whirlpool Corp-Clyde Division, where he had been employed for 38 years.

A member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Clyde, where he served as elder, deacon and trustee, he also was active in all organizations and leadership of the church.

He enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the First United Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Alex MacLean and the Rev. Richard Steele as co officiants. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Gwendolen Alice (Tracy) Rex
Homemaker/floral designer

Gwendolen Alice (Tracy) Rex, 90, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2000, in the Seneca House, where she resided.

She was born May 28, 1909, in Bellevue, to Thomas and Anna (Nolan) Tracy. On May 16, 1933, she married Francis Rex, who died Dec. 31, 1995.

Survivors include: a son, Thomas Rex of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Tony (Jacqueline) San Gregory of Tiffin and Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Brady of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A brother, Quentin Tracy, also is deceased.

Mrs. Rex, a homemaker, also worked as a floral designer at Shumway Flowers for 10 years.

A 1926 graduate of Bellevue High School, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, its Rosary Altar Society, the Senior Citizen's Bowling League, the Bowlerette League, the Child Culture Club (Tiffin Mother's Club) and the Allen Eiry Senior Center, where she served as past board member..

She also served as a volunteer at St. Joseph Cafeteria and library.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edward Dunn as celebrant. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the Mass at the church Saturday.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
