Bethany Marie Coward
Infant daughter

Bethany Marie Coward, infant daughter of former Findlay resident, Kelly Coward and Greg Murphy, both of Tiffin, was stillborn at 7:55 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Surviving besides the parents are: a sibling, Ethan Nicholas Coward of Tiffin; maternal grandparents, Mrs. Kenneth (Debbie) Hoover of Bettsville and Scott Coward of Findlay; and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Joe (Mickey) Perkins, also of Findlay.

Her maternal great-grandfather, Joe Perkins, is deceased.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Knollcrest cemetery, east of Findlay.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Williams
Sterling Grinding Wheel/ITT retiree

John E. Williams, 83, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, at his residence at 192 St. Francis Ave., Villa 22.

He was born in Tiffin, Aug. 26, 1916, to William O. II and Blanche (Kerschner) Williams. On Sept. 5, 1935, in Covington, Ky., he married Helen J. Niswender, who survives.

Other survivors include: a sister, Cherie Ann Hartschuh of Bowling Green, and a brother, William O. Williams III of Tiffin.

Mr. Williams, a Columbian High School graduate, retired as a purchasing/marketing agent Sept. 1, 1978, from Sterling Grinding Wheel Co./ITT Abrasive Products, after 45 years of employment.

He also attended Heidelberg College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate.

A member of the Protestant faith, he also was a 34-year member of Tiffin Elks Lodge 94.

The Rev. Jan Kucera and John Kirian will be the co-officiants at the 3 p.m. Tuesday service in St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery (Egbert's), Tiffin.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service in St. Francis Home Chapel.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

Harold G. Lowery
Consolidated Biscuit Co. retiree

Harold G. Lowery Jr., 44, 20 Fairview, died at 11:48 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born In Tiffin, Aug. 24, 1955, to the late Harold G. Sr. and Phyllis (Agnus) Lowery. He had never married

Survivors include a niece, Vanessa Tyree of Dennison, Texas, two nephews, Timmy and Willie Tyree, both of San Diego, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Tim (Becky L.) Tyree of Dennison.

A U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era, Mr. Lowery was employed as a mixer at Consolidated Biscuit Co. in McComb for 11 years.

A life-long Tiffin resident, he was a member of VFW 2858, Tiffin Eagles 402, DAV Chapter 34 and Tiffin AMVETS.

He was a 1973 Columbian High School graduate.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary A. Halstead officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where the United Veterans Council will conduct military graveside services at 11:45 a.m.

VFW 2858 will serve a luncheon following the graveside service at the VFW.

Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the United Veterans Council.

Opal Kate Oller
Former Newberry employee

Opal Kate Oller, 88, died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she resided.

She was born in Republic, Dec. 27, 1911, to Andrew and Maude (Auble) Powers. Her husband, H. Dale Oller, whom she married April 21, 1935, in Tiffin, preceded her in death April 24, 1994.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Janet) Dundore of Bellevue; two sisters, Ida Mae Michener of Newark and Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Murphy of Republic; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Merle and Burdell Powers, and two sisters, Alma Miller and Irma Powers, also are deceased.

Mrs. Oller, a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, had been employed as a clerk at the former J.J. Newberry Store, retiring in 1974, after 16 years of service.

A 1929 graduate of Scipio Republic High School, she served as president of her senior class, wrote the class song and played on the high school girls basketball team.

She also was a member of Tiffin United Commercial Travelers 359, where she had served as president, and in the 1940s she served as president of the Monroe Street Elementary School P.T.A.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Buckley officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home and at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to the church.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Bruce Church
Republic St. Jacobs pastor

The Rev. Dr. Robert Bruce Church, 60, of 226 Ellis Ave., Bellevue, died expectedly Sunday, April 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born July 12, 1939, in Mt. Clemons, Mich., to Jerry E. and Gertrude (Sueder) Church. On Sept. 15, 1962, in Bellevue, he married Karen Hassinger, who survives in Bellevue.

Survivors also include: a son, R. Benjamin Church of Tiffin; four daughters, Mavis Kramer of Elida, Dalya Fearing of Defiance, Camilla Church of Bellevue and Joanna Archer of Ft. Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Church of Huntington Woods, Mich.

The Rev. Dr. Church, the current paster of St. Jacobs United Church of Christ in Republic, was employed as a specialist at Brohl and Appell.

He received his bachelor's degree from Bethel College in Indiana and his master of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky. He also was the recipient of a doctorate in humane letters.

A former Bellevue city councilman, he was a former member of the Sandusky County Republican Central Committee and a member of the Rockwell Springs Trout Club, Castalia, the North American Fishing Club, the YMCA Men's Club and the Lions Club.

He also was a member of the Small Church Council of the United Church of Christ, the only such council still in existence in the United States, and a charter member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Sandusky.

He also had a private pilot's license and enjoyed flying and fishing.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Jacobs United Church of Christ, where the body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Burial will be in St. Jacobs cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Harris Funeral Home, Bellevue.

It was the Rev. Church's wish that no flowers be sent. Memorials may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators or the Gideons, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Delbert Lester Nye
Retired self-employed plumber

Delbert Lester Nye, 74, of Carman Place, Fremont, died Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Bellevue Hospital.

He was born in Hessville, May 18, 1925, to Delbert Nicholas Nye and Lena M. (Trapp) Nye Lenz. His first wife, Etta Jane (Stauffer) Nye, died in October 1964. He later married Louise E. Boucher Papenfus, Dec. 23, 1964, and she survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Delbert Charles Nye of New London, Leonard A. Nye of Norwalk and Ken C. Papenfus of Fostoria; three daughters, Deborah L. McCormach of Dunwoody, Ga., Mrs. Richard (Marie I.) Fisher of Fremont and Mrs. Tom (Cheryl) Gruver of Green Springs; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Carnahan of Willard and Lois Shiets of Oak Harbor; and two brothers, Richard and Gary Lenz, both of Fremont.

His stepfather, Henry Lenz, also is deceased.

Mr. Nye, a Herbrand employee and then a self-employed plumber at Del's and Sons Plumbing, retired in 1987, after 17 years of service.

A World War II U.S. Army AirCorps veteran, having served in the South Pacific, he attended Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont.

He was a member of the Fremont American Legion and VFW, where he was a life-member, and the Clyde Moose and Eagles.

He had resided in Fremont the past four years, formerly residing in Port Clinton and Clyde.

The Rev. Robert Hartman will conduct the 11 a.m. Thursday service in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be at 8 p.m.. Clyde Moose also will have services at 7:45 p.m.Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the family.

Richard O. Weidinger
Livestock hauler/farmer

Richard O. Weidinger, 83, of 16575 E. TR 126, Attica, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in the Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard.

He was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Reed Township, to Alfred and Helen (Daniel) Weidinger. On Feb. 16, 1943, in Reed Assumption Church, he married Helen C. Ruffing, who survives in Attica.

Survivors also include: three sons, Paul R. and Alvin R. Weidinger, both of Attica, and Mark W. Weidinger of Bellevue.

Mr. Weidinger, a livestock hauler and farmer, also worked for Leaman-McLean Elevator in Monroeville and Horns Crop Service in Bellevue.

He was a member of Reed Assumption Catholic Church and a past member of the Attica Knights of Columbus.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Reed Assumption Church, 15030 E. TR 126, Attica, with the Rev. John M. Nagele, C.PP.S, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Shane Allen Harp
3-year-old son

Shane Allen Harp, 3-year-old son of Timothy D. and Lisa A. (Littleton) Harp of 234 E. South St., Carey, died at 9:17 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2000, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky, of natural causes.

He was born in Findlay, Nov. 18, 1996.

Survivors include his parents; maternal grandparents, Margaret and Fred Barth of Carey and Lee and Iris "PeeWee" Littleton of Canton; paternal grandparents, Jeannie and Charles Inmon and Russ and Henrietta Harp, all of Kenton; a brother, Randy E. Harp, at home; a half-brother, Ryan Osborn of Mt. Victory; maternal great-grandfather, James H. Wallen of Georgia; paternal great-grandmother, Shirley DeLong of Lima; and aunts and uncles.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grove cemetery, Kenton, with the Rev. Paul Goetz officiating.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.

Memorials may be made to the Shane A. Harp Memorial Fund, in care of the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-1169.

Cathern Thuernau
Retired Green Springs teacher

Cathern Thuernau, 87, of SR 19, Green Springs, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in the Elmwood Nursing Home, Green Springs.

She was born in Green Springs Sept. 10, 1911, to Edwin and Maria (Hitzelbergel) Young. In July 1937, she married Ewald H. Thuernau. He died in April 1984.

Surviving are a son, Alan Thuernau of Plymouth, Mich.; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Charles Young.

Although Mrs. Thuernau will be remembered as the "Kindergarten Teacher," she taught first grade in Green Springs for three years beginning in 1933. At the encouragement of local parents, in 1946, she began a private kindergarten in the Green Springs Memorial Library. Classes continued at various locations until, in 1952, the school board was finally convinced to allow the kindergarten in the school building. She continued teaching there until her retirement in 1975.

A life-time Green Springs area resident and a member of the Lutheran Church, she graduated from Green Springs High School in 1928 and also from Heidelberg College.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Interment will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to "Back To The Wild," Bardshar Road, Castalia.

Lowell G. Leach
Norfolk/Western Railroad retiree

Lowell G. Leach, 64, formerly of 124 Harkness St., Bellevue, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, in the Twilight Gardens Nursing Home, Norwalk.

He was born April 24, 1936, in New Boston, Ohio, to the late James and Wilma (Stewart) Leach. His wife, Louella Leach, whom he married July 4, 1970, died March 26, 1999.

Survivors include: five brothers, Ronald Leach of Shreveport, La., Clyde, Larry and Raymond Leach, all of Lucasville and Arnold Leach of Mansfield.

Two sisters, Edith Sullivan and Norma Wyrick, also are deceased.

Mr. Leach retired in 1988 from the Norfolk and Western Railroad.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, with Pastor James Belcher officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Phillip P. Missler
Bellevue Farmers Coop retiree

Phillip P. Missler, 90, formerly of 640 Kilbourne St., Bellevue, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in Norwalk Memorial Home, where he had been a patient since 1994.

He was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Bismark, to Andrew and Caroline (Diehm) Missler. On Feb. 3, 1931, he married Theresa Reiderman, who died March 28, 1999.

Surviving are four sons, Andrew Missler of Oberlin, Marvin and Gerry Missler, both of Bellevue and Eugene Missler of Norwalk; two daughters, Marjorie Carroll of Clyde and Violet Jacobs of North Baltimore; 29 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by a son, Clinton Missler; two grandchildren; four brothers, Clemence, Lenus, Roman and Andrew Missler; and a sister, Cecelia Missler.

Mr. Missler worked for many years at the Bellevue Farmers Coop, retiring many years ago.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Bellevue.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial following in Bellevue Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic School or a charity of the donor's choice.
