Ruth E. Ring
Tiffin resident

Ruth E. Ring, 86, of 4739 E. SR 18, Tiffin, died at 5:14 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2000 at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. She was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Tiffin to Pius and Lucy (Arendt) Warnement. On Sept. 26, 1940 she married John W. Ring at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he died Feb. 27, 1991.

Surviving are: seven sons, Thomas Ring of Tiffin, Richard Ring of Findlay, The Rev. Daniel Ring of Fostoria, Jerry Ring of Twinsburg; Michael Ring of Findlay, Timothy Ring of Tiffin, and Ronald Ring of Broadview Heights; four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Marilyn) Metzger of Plymouth, Eileen First of Fostoria, Patti Bell of Lancaster and Mrs. Richard (Kathy) Buckingham of Loveland; three sisters, Mrs. William (Virginia) Ring of Lancaster, Catherine Vogel, and Esther Kuebler of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Four brothers, F. Marion, Howard, Cecil, and Justin Warnement; and a sister, Olive Smith, are deceased.

Mrs. Ring was a 1932 Calvert graduate, she was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, the Altar Rosary Society, and an avid card player.

Her son, The Rev. Daniel Ring, will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday Funeral Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Tiffin.

Visitation hours are from 2-8 p.m. today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin.

There will be a Rosary service at 8 tonight at the funeral home. The Rosary will also be recited 15 minutes prior to the Funeral Mass at the Church by the Rosary Altar Society.

Memorials may be made to Calvert Foundation, Tiffin or to St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin. Other memorials should be for Masses.

Barbara E. Stewart
Retired Autolite-Ford employee

Barbara E. Stewart, 81, formerly of 195 Wentz St., Tiffin, died at 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at Sunrise Assisted Living, where she had lived since September 1999. She was born Aug. 30, 1918 to Leroy and Georgia Frankfather. Her first marriage was to Donald Fouts and her second marriage was to Lester Stewart; both preceded her in death.

Surviving are: a son, Donald L. Fouts of Mebane, N.C.; five daughters, Paula L. Hoffman of Bascom, Carol C. Essex and Linda M. Stick of Fostoria, Judy A. Kauffman of Alvada and Delthia I. Tyson of Fostoria; a brother, George P. Craley of Fostoria; two sisters, Betty Charlotte Rumschlag of Fostoria and Constance J. Shepard of Michigan.; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

A daughter, Peggy E. Fouts; two brothers, John C. and Robert Craley; and a sister, Virginia Maxine Hartley, are deceased.

Mrs. Stewart retired from Autolite-Ford Motor Co. of Fostoria, a member of Union United Church of Christ, and president of Local 535 Retirees.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at Seneca Memorial Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Seneca County Cancer Society or Community Hospice.

Iola J. Delaplane
Upper Sandusky homemaker

Iola J. Delaplane, 90, of 439 N. Eighth St., Upper Sandusky, died at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2000, in the Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

She was born in Mifflin Township, Wyandot County, June 3, 1909, to Edward J. and Matilda (Schoenberger) Ulrich. On Nov. 27, 1930, in Upper Sandusky, she married her husband of more than 66 years, Kenneth J. Delaplane. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1997.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Dan (June) Howard of Upper Sandusky; a son, Gene Delaplane of Downington, Pa.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Friel E. Ulrich of rural Upper Sandusky.

Mrs. Delaplane, a life-long Upper Sandusky resident, was a homemaker and also worked as a clerk at Smith's 5 and 10 Store and Philbrick's Grocery Store, both formerly of Upper Sandusky.

In 1929 she served as Deputy Clerk of Courts for Wyandot County for six and a half years.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for the past 77 years; the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild, Order Eastern Star 366, where she was a member for more than 50 years and the Wyandot County Senior Citizens Club. She also was a past noble grand of the former Rebekah's Lodge, Upper Sandusky.

She enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and sending and receiving cards.

The Rev. Charles Steward will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Monday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church, Wyandot County Home Health or Wyandot County Hospice.

Henry J. 'Hank' Mekush
Registered professional engineer

Henry J. "Hank" Mekush, 59, of 935 Villandry Drive, Marion, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, May 3, 2000, in the Morrow County Hospital, Mt. Gilead.

He was born May 7, 1940, in Cleveland to the late Joseph J. and Margaret P. (Langer) Mekush. On Feb. 16, 1991, he married Marilyn A. Comerf, who survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Tim (Renee) McCormick of Sacramento, Calif; a son, Brian of Fresno, Calif.; two stepsons, Richard Chafe of Sunset, Utah and Robert Chafe of Reynoldsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Dick (Margare Rose) Kear of Amlin, Ohio and Mrs. Tom (Shirley) Spitler of Upper Sandusky; two brothers, Joseph Mekush of Columbus and Edward Mekush of Bradenton, Fla.; a granddaughter and two step-granddaughters.

Mr. Mekush, a graduate of Sycamore High School and Ohio Northern University, where he received his B.S.M.E., joined the H.P.M. Corp in Mt. Gilead in 1963, as a design engineer. He later became project engineer, chief engineer and area manager of the Midwest Region office in Chicago, Ill. In 1987 he became product sales manager for H.P.M.-Stadco, Mt. Gilead, where he was involved in sales, manufacturing and service with travel and international ventures to Russia, Korea and China, South America, Mexico, Europe, Canada and the U.S. Market. He was involved in the testing, development and design of die cast machines.

A registered profissional engineer, he was a member of the North American Die Casting Association, Phi Mu Delta Fraternity, Moose Lodge and GYRO International Fraternal Organization.

Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore, with the Rev. Carver Williams officiating.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Gunder-Hall-Folk Funeral Directors, 347 W. Center St., Marion.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Salvation Army.

Ralph E. Stahl
Maritime Seaman/well driller

Ralph E. Stahl, 72, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home at 407 Lonna Drive, Risingsun.

He was born in Sandusky County, Jan. 16, 1928, to Erlin and Lavon (Kissling) Stahl. HIs wife, Carole (Hammer) Stahl, whom he married Nov. 27, 1970, in Monroe, Mich., survives in Risingsun.

Survivors also include: two sons, Ralph E. Stahl II of Tucson, Ariz. and Joseph A. Stahl of Risingsun; two grandchildren; two brothers, Paul E. Stahl of Fostoria and Leighton Lee Stahl of Kansas; and a sister, Dorothy Ridenour of Fostoria.

A Maritime Seaman for more than 41 years, Mr. Stahl also worked as a well driller for 10 years.

He was a member of Canaan Church of God, Kansas: Fostoria Masonic Lodge 288, 32nd Degree Valley of Toledo and the Zenobia Shrine, Toledo.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Pastor Richard Mathner of the First Baptist Church, Bettsville, officiating. Burial will be in Scott-Trinity cemetery, Risingsun.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital, in care of Zenobia emple, 1511 Madison Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43624.

Utah Rickle
General Electric retiree

Utah Rickle, 78, of East Tiffin Street, Fostoria, died at 11:21 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.

She was born in Fostoria, Oct. 16, 1921, to Albert and Mary Anna (Barns) Piotter.

A sister, Betty Piotter of Fostoria, survives.

Preceding her in death were: two daughters, Sandra K. Smith and Karen Rickle; two brothers, Albert J. and Ernest E. Piotter; and a sister, Violet Mullholand.

Mrs. Rickle, a 1940 graduate of Fostoria High School, retired in 1983 from General Electric, after 36 years of service.

An honorary member of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, she attended Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria.

She was a member of General Electric's Quarter Century Club and G-Watts.

The Rev. Neil Foster will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.

Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Brenda Lenz
Fostoria native/waitress

Brenda Lenz, 56, of Ames Street, Clyde, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Bellevue Hospital.

She was born in Fostoria Sept. 23, 1943. Her mother, Twila (Krouse) Tobin, and her step-father, Frank Tobin, are deceased.

Survivors include: her companion, Gerald Grassman of Clyde; a son, Tony Lenz of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandchild; and five sisters, Vicki La Plante of Cape Giradeau, Mo., Sandusky O'Connor of Ocala, Fla., Kathryn Tinoco of Utica, N.Y., and Sylvia Titus and Charlene Ponce, both of Fostoria.

Mrs. Lenz, who received her education in the Fostoria schools, had been employed as a waitress in Fremont and Fostoria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Scott-Trinity cemetery, Risingsun.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Monday until time of the service at the funeral home.

Florance L. Wank
Rural Fostoria homemaker

Florance L. Wank, 82, of TR 84, Fostoria, died at 2 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born in Risingsun, Sept. 26, 1917, to Durbin and Ethel (Witmore) Phillips. On April 5, 1948, in Fostoria, she married Norman J. Wank Sr., who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Dan (Susan) Greeno of Fostoria and Mrs. Carl (Deborah) Johnson of Risingsun; and two grandchildren.

A son, Norman Wank Jr.; a daughter, Mary Wank; and a brother, Lloyd Phillips, also are deceased.

Mrs. Wank, a homemaker, was a 1935 graduate of Fostoria High School.

The Rev. Gary Staats will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Tuesday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.

Lulu Jane Mitchell
Fostoria homemaker

Lulu Jane Mitchell, 94, died at 5:55 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, where she was a resident.

She was born in Putnam County, to Anthony and Mary (Runser) Kost. She first married John Thomasson in 1922, and they were divorced. Her second husband, Paul E. Mitchell, whom she married in 1928, in Tiffin, is deceased.

Survivors include: a son, Ralph Mitchell of Fostoria; a daughter, Donna Jean Below of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Donna Raul of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, George Thomasson and Orland Mitchell, a brother and three sisters also preceded her in death.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Findlay.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.

Randall L. 'Randie' Green
Ballreich distributor/musician

Randall L. "Randie" Green, 42, of 219 Mohawk St., died at 5:05 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born in Tiffin, Sept. 21, 1957, to Kenneth V. and Jeanne (Zartman) Green. His mother survives in Tiffin. His wife, Mary K. (Dell) Green, whom he married Sept. 22, 1979, in Tiffin, also survives.

Survivors also include: his step-father, Robert Becker of Tiffin; his step-mother, Carol Green of Tiffin; a son, Ryan K. Green, at home; four brothers, Ronald and Dennis Green, both of Tiffin, Craig Becker of Wauseon and Warren Becker of Akron; and four sisters, Mrs. Dennis (Leslie) Walter of Tiffin, Mrs. Julie Feasel of Perrysburg, Mrs. Lari (Becker) Bangachon of Akron and Mrs. Doug (Vicki) Hartenstein, also of Tiffin.

Mr. Green, a 1975 graduate of Columbian High School, was a distributor for Ballreich's and a guitarist with the Rock Steady Band.

An avid boater and skier, he attended Trinity United Church of Christ. He also enjoyed music, baseball and coaching.

The Rev. William Smith will conduct the 11 a.m. Monday service in Trinity United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Norman E. Beard
Beard Sohio owner/operator

Norman E. Beard, 73, died at 6:17 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2000, at his residence at 10716 CH 121, Upper Sandusky, where he had resided since 1963.

He was born May 2, 1927, in Tiffin, to John and Bertha Jane (Garfield) Beard. On Sept. 27, 1959, in Crestline, he married Naomi J. Will, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Anita J. Frey of Findlay and Norma J. Beard of Lancaster; two grandchildren; and a brother, Vernon Beard of Tiffin.

Also preceding him in death were: a infant son, Norman William Beard; four brothers, Edward, Robert, John and William; and a sister, Imogene.

Mr. Beard retired in 1991 as the owner/operator of Beard Sohio, after 31 years of employment. He had worked 50 years in the gasoline, automotive and repair businesses.

He was a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky; the Buckeye State Sheriff Association and American Legion Post 225.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in Panama in the 549 Military Police Company, Nov. 1945-May 1947, he also was a life member of the following: AMVETS Post 777, VFW Post 2842 and Elks Lodge 83.

His hobbies included woodworking, painting, mowing lawns, camping, playing cards, collecting, his red pick-up and Ford tractor, nature and hunting.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local veteran's organizations.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where an Elks memorial service will be at 6:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Wyandot County Hospice, the building fund of John Stewart United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
