Dorothy Jane Tiell
Former school librarian

Dorothy Jane Tiell, 72, of 10 Pinewood Drive, died at 4:32 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Mrs. Tiell was born March 25, 1928, in Tiffin to William and Margaret (Dell) Taylor. She married Howard A. Tiell on July 2, 1949, in St. Mary Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, other survivors include: two sons, Andrew of Toledo and Gregory of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Elizabeth) Koleno of Milan, and Julia Tiell of Ajo, Ariz.; five grandchildren; a brother, James Taylor of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Mary Jean) Boucher of Fremont, and Mrs. Duane (Rose) Peters of Portland, Ore.

Two brothers, John and Charles Taylor, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Calvert High School in 1946; was a homemaker; a former librarian at St. Mary's School; member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, St. Mary's Pinochle Club, Seneca Hills Tuesday Morning Golf League, and Knights of Columbus Bowling League.

The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Library, Calvert High School Tuition Assistance Fund, or to St. Mary's School Tuition Assistance Fund.

Grace J. Schaefer Mackay
Tiffin resident's mother

Grace J. Schaefer Mackay, 86, formerly of 215 E. Shoreline Drive, Sandusky, died Friday evening, June 9, 2000, in the Fairhaven Community Home, Upper Sandusky, following a brief illness.

She was born July 18, 1913, in Cleveland. Her first husband, Edmund A Schaefer, and her second husband, William S. Mackay, are deceased.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Edwina) Miller of Tiffin; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Prudance Warner of Leominster, Mass.

A daughter, Suzanne Gray, and a grandson are deceased.

Mrs. Mackay owned and operated the former Grace Schaefer Beauty Shoppe in Sandusky until the early 1960s. In the late 1970s and early '80s, she was an escort for AAA World Wide Travel Agency and St. Petersburg Motor Club, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Along with her late husband, BIll Mackay, they served as hosts on 78 cruises and land tours.

She was a member of St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Women's Club.

Family graveside services will be in Restlawn Memorial Park.

There will be no visitation. The Quick-Park and Pfell Funeral Home, Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Unverferth House, 190 King Ave., Columbus, OH 43201 (Ohio State University House for transplant patients and their families).

Arthur J. Brownell
Junior Home Kid

Arthur J. Brownell, 76, 2511 N. SR 53, died at 11:13 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born June 13, 1923, in Tiffin, to Arthur Brownell and Mabel (Shauan) Brownell Stanton. On Nov. 10, 1959, in Tiffin, he married Helen Holman, who survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Robin L. Brownell of Tiffin; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Grace) Johnson, also of Tiffin.

A sister, Mrs. Madeline Johnson, also is deceased.

Mr. Brownell, a Junior Home Kid, worked as a straightener for the former Tiffin Glass and also as a security guard at Fostoria Wire and Hayes Albion.

He was lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans 34 and a member of the Methodist Faith..

A disabled veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The Rev. Melanie Haack will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Junior Home newspaper or the Disabled American Veterans.

Maxine Blair
Mother of Tiffin residents/homemaker

Maxine Blair, 68, of 460 Indian Mill Drive, Riverglenn Estates, Upper Sandusky, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, in the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Xenia, to the late Edward C. and Mabel E. (Dyer) Strong. Her husband, Frank W. Blair, whom she married March 30, 1948, in Greenup, Ky., died in 1982.

Survivors include: six sons, Douglas of Fountain, Colo., Kenneth of Tiffin, James of Mansfield, Darrell of Alabama and Daniel and Timothy, both of Upper Sandusky; four daughters, Penny Blair of Tiffin, Mrs. Wendell (Barbara) Kidwell of Valrico, Fla., Mrs. Kenneth (Virginia) May of Sycamore and Mrs. Brian (Cheryl) Orians of Upper Sandusky; 30 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Two sons, William and Gerald, are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Blair also worked as a nurses aid for 16 years at the former Sunnyvilla Nursing Home and at Fairhaven Health Care Center, both of Upper Sandusky.

She was affiliated with Jehovah's Witness, Upper Sandusky, and enjoyed reading and crocheting.

Services and burial will be private. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness or Hospice of Wyandot County.

Marguerite E. Pincus
Worthington Plastics retiree

Marguerite E. Pincus, 70, of 218 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, died at 7:36 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, in the Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.

She was born March 15, 1930, in Van Wert, to the late Renato and Louise (Arnold) Bianchi. She married Joseph Pincus, and they were later divorced. He survives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Survivors also include: a son, Joseph L. Pincus of Margate, Fla.; a daughter, Stephanie J. Pincus of Upper Sandusky; and two sisters, Theresa Kindel of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Clifford (Marie) Conn of Wyandot County.

A brother, Jack Bianchi, is deceased.

Mrs. Pincus worked for the late Leo Jones at the Star Theater; for the late William Wood at the former Wood's Sandwich Shop and at the Steer barn, both of Upper Sandusky. She retired in 1995 after 25 years of employment from Worthington Custom Plastics, Upper Sandusky.

A 1949 Upper Sandusky High School graduate, she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky and enjoyed shopping and flowers and loved cats and dogs.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in St. Peter Catholic cemetery, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. James Holmer officiating.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Kidney Dialysis Support Group of Marion General Hospital, in care of the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Mary Katherine 'Kay' Rall
Former secretary/supervisor

Mary Katherine "Kay" Rall, 57, of 10658 CH 58, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000, in the Fairhaven Retirement Community, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Bucyrus, to Albert G. and Joan A. (Voelker) Rall, who survive in Upper Sandusky.

Survivors also include: two sisters, Joyce Tesmer of Marion and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Hoy of Marion; and a brother, Albert L. Rall of Upper Sandusky.

Ms. Rall worked at Daybook in Upper Sandusky and in Bowling Green; and at United Air Craft in Forest for more than 20 years, first as a secretary and then as a supervisor. More recently she was employed as a receptionist and secretary at the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, for two years.

A 1960 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and a 1962 graduate of Tiffin University with a two year degree, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky.

She served as president for nine years of the Supreme Council of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, where she also served in other offices. She also was a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, where she served as an officer in several capacities for 21 years; served on the Wyandot County Fair Board for 17 years; as a 4-H advisor and as an active member of St. Francis Home Auxiliary, where she also was a board member.

Also a member of the American Business Women's Association in Findlay, she enjoyed cooking, raising flowers and photography.

The Rev. James Holmer will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. A wake service will be at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a Catholic Ladies of Columbia service.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Church and School Endowment Fund, Hospice of Wyandot County or Fairhaven Retirement Community.

Stephen 'Steve' Elchert
Retired farmer/maintenance man

Stephen "Steve" Elchert, 79, of 9525 E. TR 8, Republic, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at his home, following an illness of 14 months.

He was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Tiffin, to Joseph and Catherine (Scharger) Elchert. On Feb. 12, 1946, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Martha A. Steinmetz, who survives.

Other survivors include: five daughters, Mrs. Tim (Ann) Morlock, Mrs. Harold (Marty) Factor and Peg and Carol Elchert, all of Republic and Mrs. Jane Gruss of Norwalk; a sister, Mrs. Gayland Webb of Tiffin; a brother, Paul of Fostoria; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Urban J..; a twin son and daughter; two brothers, Lawrence and George; and a sister, Geraldine Feasel, are deceased.

Mr. Elchert retired from farming in 1999 and also worked as a maintenance man for Heidelberg College, retiring in 1970.

He attended school in New Riegel and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic, St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus, Tiffin Moose Lodge 4862, Tiffin Eagles, Bloomville American Legion 434 and a life member of Tiffin VFW Post 2858.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, where the United Veterans Council of Tiffin will conduct military graveside services.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, where St. Aloysius Knights of Columbus will conduct a prayer service at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.

Nelson M. Kagy
Rural Bloomville farmer

Nelson M. Kagy, 85, of 8542 E. TR 62, Bloomville, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Bucyrus Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Bloom Township, to Marcus and Ida (Hartschuh) Kagy. On Aug. 16, 1958, he married Suzanne Riley, who survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ellen) Ruikkie of Largo, Fla. and Mrs. Adrian (Laura) Fitch of Columbus; two brothers, Raymond Kagy of Copley and Leonard Kagy of Bloomville; and three grandchildren.

Two brothers, Howard and John R. Kagy, and a sister, Mabel L. Kilper, are deceased.

Mr. Kagy, a lifelong farmer, was a member of the Seneca County Farm Bureau and the National Farm Organization.

He was a former member of the Republic Elevator and former president of the Ohio Sheep Association.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Bloomville United Church of Christ or a charity of the donor's choice.

Isabel M. Eschenbrenner
General Electric retiree

Isabel M. Eschenbrenner, 92, of 232 Rock St., Fostoria, died at 3:10 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at her daughter's home.

She was born June 15, 1907, in Reed Township, to Benjamin and Mary (Meyers) Schock. On Feb. 8, 1932, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married Leo E. Eschenbrenner, who preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1985.

Survivors include: a son, Paul Eschenbrenner of Robinson, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Catherine) Seifert of Perrysburg and Joan Bugner of Fostoria; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.

Mrs. Eschenbrenner retired in 1970, as a start placer from the General Electric, after 21 years of employment.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Republic and the G.E. Watts.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph P. Szybka as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Tiffin.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses of Seneca County Health District, the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mary M. Kintz
Grocery store owner/operator

Mary M. Kintz, 84, formerly of 612 S. Union St., Fostoria, died at 12:53 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born Nov. 8, 1915, in Gas City, Ind., to Fred R. and Fayette (Ferwalt) Howard. Her husband, Paul C. Kintz, whom she married Sept. 4, 1937, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, died Aug. 13, 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Fayanne) Ochs of Fostoria; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry "Hank" Howard of Fremont; and three sisters, Madonnna Roberts of Fostoria, Patricia Wolfarth of Tucson, Ariz. and Margaret Bruce of Columbus.

A sister, Beatrice Ruehle and a brother, Alex Howard, also are deceased.

Mrs. Kintz had been employed as a clerk at JC Penney, formerly of Fostoria and owned and operated Kintz Grocery Store in Fostoria with her husband. She also worked as a clerk at Town and Country, also of Fostoria.

A 1933 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, she was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society, all of Fostoria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church or St. Catherine's Auxiliary.
