Helena W. Downs
Bellevue resident

Helena W. Downs, 101, of 323 Northwest St., Bellevue, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at Bellevue Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1899 in Tiffin to Thomas and Nellie (Burke) Weaver. She married Edgar Dons in 1922 and he preceded her in death in 1971.

Surviving include: two daughters, Deanna Stephens of Bellevue, and Marilyn Stephens of Del Ray Beach, Fl.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death was a great granddaughter, Laureen Stephens.

Mrs. Downs worked at The Bellevue Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 1968. She was the oldest member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bellevue, and served with the local Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of the Bellevue Hospital Auxiliary.

Friends will be received at Harris Funeral Home, Bellevue on Monday, June 19, 2000 from 5-7 p.m. Services will be held on Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bellevue at 10 am. where the body will lie in state after 9 a.m. Burial will be in Bellevue cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Church or to the Bellevue Hospital.

Beatrice G. Fisher
Tiffin resident

Beatrice G. Fisher, 74, of 365 Main St., Tiffin, died at 5:05 a.m., Thursday, June 15, 2000. She was born on Jan. 29, 1926 to Henry and Ruth (Lentz) Slatman. On Dec. 11, 1947 she married John M. Fisher, and he survives.

Other survivors include: a son, John H. Fisher of Columbus; three daughters, Bonnie San Gregory of Homer, Mi., Jacqueline Phillips, and Sarah Hoover, both of Tiffin; a sister, Joanne Weiser of Springfield, Oh.; and four grandchildren.

Preceded in death was a sister, Alice Crabtree.

Mrs. Fisher was a Columbian High School graduate Class of 1944, she was a homemaker, crossing guard and Avon dealer. A member of Washington Street United Methodist Church; Women's Group of the Church; Tiffin Stamp Club; Girl Scout Leader; and Allen Eiry Senior Citizen.

The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate the 3 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2000 funeral service at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 7-9 p.m., tonight, and one hour prior to the funeral service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Hildred C. Funk Adams
Retired Junior Home teacher

Hildred C. Funk Adams, 93, of Independence House, Fostoria, formerly of Bascom, died at 4:32 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2000. She was born April 10, 1907 to Perry and Minnie (DeWald) Funk. On Aug. 19, 1943 she married J. Earl Adams, he died march 26, 1993.

Survivors include: five nieces, Janet Funk Dutt of Tiffin, Judy Funk Davis of Dover, Ma., Susan Funk Williams of Oriental, N.C., Nancy Funk Mitchell of N. Olmstead, and Ann Funk Boncimino; and 12 great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death were: five brothers and five sisters, Wayne D., Wenner, and twin brothers Allon N. and Dr. John Funk, M.D. and her twin H. Squire Funk., Hester Dysart, Hazel Rowe, third set of twins, Mary Hope Funk and James Walter Funk died in infancy, and Helen Funk.

Mrs. Adams is a graduate of Columbian High School Class of 1925, and graduated Heidelberg College Class of 1930, she spent two years in Germany and two years in Japan, she taught school at the Junior Home and Hopewell-Loudon, she retired. A member of Bascom Union United Church of Christ, former Bascom Garden Club Member and she was active in all church organizations.

The Pastor James Michaels will officiate the 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2000 funeral service at the Bascom Union United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Sand Ridge cemetery.

There are no visitation hours scheduled.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home in in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Independence House and United Church of Christ.

Marguerite 'Alice' Thomson
Homemaker

Marguerite "Alice" Thomson, 75, died at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in St. Francis Home, where she resided.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

M. Alice Thomson
Retired Old Fort High School Librarian

M. Alice Thomson, 75, formerly of Westwood Court, Tiffin, died at 3:43 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at St. Francis Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 15, 1925 to Raymond and Lillian (Burkins) Crowl. On July 27, 1945 she married Philip Beatty Thomson, he died Dec. 24, 1999.

Surviving include: two sons, John Philip Thomson of Ca., and James Raymond Thomson of Az.; and a niece, Myra Muntz of Swanton.

Preceded in death was a sister, Mary Anita Fleming.

Mrs. Thomson was a Class of 1943 Old Fort High School graduate, a homemaker and retired librarian of Old Fort Elementary School. A member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women of Ebenezer Church.

The Memorial Service at Ebenezer United Methodist Church is yet to be determined.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Florence Mae Keiser Rule
Green Springs resident

Florence Mae Keiser Rule, 87, of 430 N. Broadway, Green Springs, died at 6:05 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born in Fremont on Aug. 26, 1912, to Warren and Fannie Mae (Cole) Keiser. She married Stanley Dudrow Rule on July 24, 1944, and he died in 1972.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Ruth Rule of Clyde, Mrs. John (Barbara) Krochmalny of Walbridge; one grandchild; two brothers, Dr. Haldon Keiser of Fremont, and Louis Keiser of Brooklyn, Iowa.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Harry C. and Dr. Paul Keiser, and a sister, Bertha K. Ricketts.

Mrs. Rule was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School; a homemaker; and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Green Springs, and the Calvary United Women's Missionary Group.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with burial in the Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the School of Hope, Fremont.

Joanne Wood
Fostoria resident

Joanne Wood, 72, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home of Fostoria.

Mrs. Wood was born March 6, 1928, in West Virginia to George and Blanche (McKinnon) Carney. She married Robert L. Wood on Feb. 29, 1956, and he died on Dec. 11, 1996.

She is survived by: three daughters, Judy Lamb and Mrs. John (Patricia) Erman, both of Fostoria, and Mrs. Terry (Diana) Van Meter of Bloomdale; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, William Carney; and two sisters, Peggy Carter and Margaret Jupen.

Mrs. Wood was a homemaker, and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Visitation will be private and memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Margaret R. Armitage
Area residents' mother/sister

Word has been received of the death of Margaret R. Armitage, 78, of Batesville, Ark., who died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

She was born in Tiffin on Sept. 25, 1921, to Chalmer and Fern (Collins) Hoy. She married Lloyd Armitage who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: four daughters, Judy Banfield of Elyria, Jean Hafner of Willard, Nancy Allen of Pleasant Plains, Ark., and Linda Bonds of Clinton, Ark.; 20 grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Gladys Weiker of Clyde.

Mrs. Armitage had been a resident of Arkansas since 1964; was a homemaker; and a member of the Lexington Baptist Church at Lexington, Ark.

Graveside services were at Woodland Memorial Park in Fairfield Bay, Ark., June 11.

McKenney Crawford
Fremont resident

McKenney Crawford, 34, of Fremont died suddenly late Thursday, June 15, 2000, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

He was born Dec. 27, 1965, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert (MargerRee) Crawford.

Survivors include: his parents, Robert Crawford, Sr., of Lambert, Miss., and MargerRee Bower of Fremont; three sons, Tyler, Zachary and Jacob Crawford, all of Fremont; three brothers, Robert, Jr., Kevin and Norman, all of Fremont; two sisters, Gloria and Kimberly Crawford, both of Fremont; grandfather, Stanford of Detroit; grandmothers, Mary Williams of Fremont and Olivia Crawford of Lambert, Miss; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Crawford was a member of Greater St. James Church of God in Christ, Fremont, and enjoyed fishing and cooking.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greater St. James Church of God in Christ, 629 Sixth St., Fremont, with the Pastor Chester Trail officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde.

Mary Lee Lambert
Bettsville resident's mother

Mary Lee Lambert, 86, of Peterstown, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, Va.

She was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Kimball, W.Va., to Isaac and Sylvania (Workman) Christian. She married John Harrison Lambert on Oct. 21, 1931, in Kimball, W.Va., and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include: three sons, Isaac H., of Pulaski, Va., Howard L. of Bettsville, and Kenneth E. of Peterstown, W.Va.; five daughters, Shirley L. Overmire of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Cecil (Elsie) Gibson of Tiffin, Mrs. Willard (Janet) Duncan of Princeton, W.V., Mrs. Delbert (Norma) Cook and Mrs. David (Thelma) Beard, both of Fremont; two brothers, Willard Christian of Christiansburg, Va., and Hobert Christian of Dublin, Va; four sisters, Shirley Riner of Peterstown, W.Va., Beulah Miller of Radford, Va., Lola Huffman of Point Pleasant, Ohio, and Effie Rader of Blacksburg, Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two sons, Ralph and Dennis Lambert; two daughters, Hallie Bishop and Patricia McKinnon; four brothers, Dewey, Dove, Tyrone and Monroe; two sisters, Oma Masters and Virginia Terry; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Lambert was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Bozoo, W.Va., where she was very devoted in working for her church, especially as missionary leader for many years.

Funeral services were at June 10 at the Broyles-Shewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, W.Va., and burial followed in the Mt. View cemetery at Wikel, W.Va.

Raymond F. Koehler
Owner of Koehler businesses

Raymond F. Koehler, 91, of 119 W. Fairview St., Upper Sandusky, died at 2:15 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2000, in Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky.

Mr. Koehler was born Dec. 26, 1908, in Salem Twp. of Wyandot County to George F. and Daisy I. (Norris) Koehler. He married Mary E. Finley June 23, 1940, in Paulding, and she died Jan. 18, 1989.

He is survived by: two sons, David F. of Columbus, and Andrew F. of Upper Sandusky; and four grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Wilson, Clarence and Harold; and two sisters, Geraldine Shull and Frieda Henderson.

He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1927 and graduated in 1932 from Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy with a bachelor of science in pharmaceutical chemistry. He began his career at the former Billhardt Drug Store and than at the Berg Drug Store which later became the Berg Koehler Drug Store and in 1940 he became the owner/operator of Koehler Drug Co., of Upper Sandusky. He also founded the Koehler Paint Company of Upper Sandusky. He was in the pharmaceutical profession for 65 years and at his death was the second oldest active pharmacist in Ohio.

He was a member of: American Pharmaceutical Association, The Ohio Pharmaceutical Association, National Association of Retail Druggist, St. Paul Lutheran Church, life member of BPOE #83, Okoboji Indians which is a national trap shooting organization, and director emeritus of the First Citizens National Bank where he was a director from 1954-1984. In 1998 he was recognized by Upper Sandusky as the oldest active businessman in the city. He enjoyed trap shooting and was a finalist in 1959 at the Grand American National Trap Shooting Tournament in Vandalia. He enjoyed attending Ohio State University football games; was an avid golfer; and was a founder developer of what is now Lincoln Hills Golf Course, Upper Sandusky.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jerry Elsholtz and the Rev. Alvin Stein officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County, Fairhaven Health Care Community or Wyandot Memorial Hospital, c/o Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Hazel A. Caves
Retired teacher

Hazel A. Caves, 99, of 7 Beechwood Dr., Helburn Meadows Garden, died at 9 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born on March 17, 1901, in Hamler to William O. and Millicent (Motter) Ruch. She married Joseph Harold Caves on May 23, 1933, and he died Nov. 23, 1938.

Survivors include: Mrs. Donald (Betsy) Elchert of Tiffin; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Kenneth E. Ruch of Napoleon, and Douglas Ruch of Marietta, Ga.

Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Caves taught school in Putnam and Lorain Counties, in Upper Sandusky, and retired in 1966 after 29 years in the Mohawk School system. She was a member of: the Sycamore United Church of Christ, life member of Ohio Education Association and National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Chapter, life member of Warpole Chapter #366 OES, Upper Sandusky, Sycamore Literary Club, Mohawk Sixty Plus Club, Wyandot County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association where she had directorship five years for seven counties, Gaza-Berean Sunday School Class, the Church Guild where she was past president; taught Sunday School for 17 years and Sunday School Superintendent for two years.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with burial in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Mohawk Historical Society or Sycamore United Church of Christ.

Cheryl Amezquita
Monroeville resident

Cheryl Amezquita, 40, of S. SR 99, Monroeville, died Friday, June 16, 2000, in Medical College Hospital, Toledo, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident early Friday morning on Peru Center Road near Monroeville.

She was born Nov. 7, 1959, in Norwalk to U.S. and Lois Stone. She married Mario Amezquita on June 22, 1980, in Monroeville and he survives.

Also surviving are: her parents, U.S. Stone of Lorain and Lois Stone of Vermillion; three sons, Joseph Leos of Abeline, Texas, Richard Amezquita of Monroeville, and Matt Amezquita at home; two grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Brouse of Lorain and Angie Stone of Vermillion; and stepmother Barbara Stone of Lorain.

Mrs. Amezquita was a graduate of Firelands High School; a graduate of Providence Hospital School of Nursing and was currently attending Firelands College, completing her R.N. degree; employed the last 13 years at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, as a L.P.N.; a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, a member of the Huron County 4-H and active with the Huron County Fair; and enjoyed gardening.

Prayers will be offered at the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, with the Fr. David Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Bellevue Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to United Cerebral Palsy.
