Paul 'Doug' Fairchild
Bettsville carpenter

Paul "Doug" Fairchild, 54, died between midnight and 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his residence at 100 Union St., Bettsville.

He was born Sept. 5, 1945, in Paintsville, Ky., Johnson County, to the late Cecil and Neva (Blair) Fairchild. He was divorced.

Survivors include: three children, Tracy Fairchild of Akron, Brandy Rochester of Carey and Brook Fairchild of Tiffin; two grandchildren; three brothers, James C. Fairchild of Carey, Kenneth R. Fairchild of Savannah, Tenn., and Lowell R. Fairchild of Medway, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Ronald L. (Wanda) Clark of Findlay and Mrs. Marvin F. (Judy) Jameson of Carey; and a special niece., Rhonda Fairchild Tuttle.

A brother, Danny G. Fairchild, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Fairchild, a carpenter, was a member of Carey Eagles and Carey Conservation Club.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he had lived in the Bettsville area for about five years, coming there from the Vanlue area.

A gathering for family and friends will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the Engle Funeral Home, Bettsville, who are in charge of arrangements.

Paul 'Doug' Fairchild

A gathering for family and friends of Paul "Doug" Fairchild, 54, who died between midnight and 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his home at 100 Union St., Bettsville, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Carey Conservation Club, TR 106, Carey.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, who are in charge of arrangements.

Norman R. Siesel
Machinist/meatcutter

Norman R. Siesel, 85, 20 Valleyview Place, died at 7:25 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2000, in the Independence House, Fostoria, where he resided.

He was born July 25, 1914, in Bismark, Huron County, to Michael L. and Philomena "Minnie" (Steinmetz) Siesel. His wife, Rose A. (Roth) Siesel, whom he married Oct. 20, 1937, in Reed Township, survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Gerald F. Siesel of Lima; two daughters, Mrs. James (Eileen) Elliott of Milan and Carolyn A. O'Leary of Toledo; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Appolonia "Lonia" Gerber, Hilda Roeder and Lavina Powley; six brothers, Clarence, Albert, Urban, Msgr. Julius, Walter and Cletus; and a great-grandson, Jacob Robert Elliott.

Mr. Siesel, a machinist at the National Machinery, also was the owner and meatcutter at Kaiser's Grocery Store in Bellevue.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the National Machinery Quarter Century Club, Knights of Columbus Council 752, Bellevue, and a life member of Elks Lodge 1013, Bellevue.

A funeral Mass will be at noon Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James K. Say and the Rev. Richard Dunn as con-celebrants. The rosary will be recited at the church at 11:45 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where National Machinery Quarter Century Club members will meet in body at 7 p.m. and a wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation-Ohio Chapter of M.G.F. or St. Joseph Building Fund.

Melba Louise (Wasserman) Szymanowski
Fremont resident

Melba Louise (Wasserman) Szymanowski, 61, of South Drive, Fremont, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at her home. She was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Fremont to Cletus E. and Tecla (Weber) Wasserman. Her mother survives. On April 4, 1959, she married Tony Szymanowski at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Mark Szymanowski of Fremont, Eric Szymanowski of Helena, and Matthew Szymanowski of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Beth Ann Decker of Fremont; two brothers, Larry Wasserman of Fremont and Stephen Wasserman of Van Wert; two sisters, Sylvia Powell of Walbridge and Anita Heppner of Columbus; and 20 grandchildren.

Mrs. Szymanowski was a homemaker and member of Victory Christian Fellowship Church. She enjoyed traveling, biking, Lake Erie and hospitality.

The funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Victory Christian Fellowship. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Focus on the Family, P.O. Box. 35500, Colorado Springs, CO 80935.

Donald W. Greune
Former Tiffin resident

Donald W. Greune, 70, of Sycamore, Ill., formerly a resident of Tiffin in the '60s, died Tuesday, July 19, 2000. He was born Jan. 18, 1930, to Walter and Mary (Lynch) Greune. They both preceded him in death.

Survivors include: a son, Mark Greune of LaGrange, Ill.; four daughters, Donna E. Greune of Trevor, Wis., Elizabeth A. Greune of Paddock Lake, Wis., Anne M. Greune and Mary C. Greune, both of Sycamore, Ill.; a brother, William Greune of Kenmore, N.Y.; two sisters, Eileen Krupp of Kenmore and Delores Lafayette of Vacaville, Calif.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Greune was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean War. He was born in Chicago and came to Tiffin at the age of 7. He resided here until the '60s then moved to Illinois. A bus driver for the Sycamore School District and Electro-Moto for 20 years, he was a member of the Newman Center in DeKalb and active with the Stage Coach Players.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Newman center, DeKalb, with the Rev. Addison Hart officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are being handled by the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, Ill.

Leo LaMar Braley
J B Roofing retiree

Leo LaMar Braley, 80, of 225 E. South Trail, died at 2:20 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation.

The complete obituary will be in Sunday's newspaper.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Theodore O. Rinehart, Jr.
Owner of Edgewater Machine

Theodore O. Rinehart,Jr., 67, of Elmhurst Drive, Fostoria, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, at Independence House in Fostoria.

He was born March 27, 1933, in Fostoria to Theodore and Ruth (Cook) Rinehart Sr. He married Carole M. Lanning June 22, 1952, in Fostoria. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two sons, David of Duluth, Ga., and Larry of Fostoria; four daughters, Terry Lucius, Mrs. Art (Linda) Cuellar, Mrs. Brad (Pam) Echelberry and Mrs. John (Lisa) Davoli, all of Fostoria; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Jones of Fostoria, Mrs. Raymond (Donna) Tong of Carey and Kay Davis of Virginia Beach, Va.

His parents, a brother and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

He was a 1951 graduate of Fostoria High School; a machine salesman and worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria for 20 years. He became owner and operator of Edgewater Machine Sales, from which he retired in 1997; was a member of Fostoria Lodge 935 BPOE; an avid fisherman and golfer; and a former club champion at Loudon Meadows Golf Course in Fostoria.

The Rev. Mark Bowers will officiate at the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with burial in Knollcrest cemetery, near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Grace L. Gottfried
Upper Sandusky resident

Grace L. Gottfried, 95, formerly of 6767 CR 107, Upper Sandusky, died in the Wyandot County Nursing Home at 7 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2000.

She was born Feb. 28, 1905, in Upper Sandusky, to Z. Dwight and Nellie (Hemmerly) Newell. On March 1, 1923, she married Edwin E. Gottfried in Upper Sandusky. He died July 14, 1999.

Survivors include: five sons, James M., Larry L. and Ray D., all of Upper Sandusky, Craig E. of Monteview, Idaho, and Paul F. of Johnstown; two daughters, Jeanne Ann Cole of Gold Hill, Ore., and Mrs. Paul (Rita J.) Eippert of Mineral Ridge; also raised in the family was Lynn E. Horne of San Mateo, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Paul (Alice) Hilderbrand of Upper Sandusky.

Preceding her in death were two great-granddaughters; three brothers, Russell, Byron and Charles; and four sisters, Anna Wilcox, Helen Chadwick, Mary Gould and Florence Smalley.

Mrs. Gottfried graduated from Upper Sandusky in 1922 and attended Ohio Northern University. She was a homemaker; helped on the farm where she enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening; a member of John Stewart United Methodist Church for over 60 years, member of the Welcome Couple Sunday School Class for many years, Farm Bureau Advisory Council Group for 57 years, Champion Homemaker Extension, Champion Grange for 55 years, all of Upper Sandusky.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Lenn Geiger officiating. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery.

Visitation is at the funeral home 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to: 4-H Endowment Fund; Upper Sandusky High School FFA; or John Stewart United Methodist Church Building Fund 2000, c/o of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Weldon E. Aichholz
New Washington farmer

Weldon E. Aichholz, 88, of East Mansfield Street, New Washington, died Thursday, July 20, 2000, in the Heritage Care Nursing Home in Shelby.

He was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Venice Township and has lived all of his life in the New Washington area where he was a farmer.

Survivors include: three sons, Harry and Duane of New Washington and Paul of Elgin, Ill.; a daughter, Sharon Houseworth of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald of New Washington.

Preceding him in death were his wife who died Oct. 24, 1994, and a sister, Miriam Aichholz.

Mr. Aichholz was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in New Washington, the Crawford County Farm Bureau, the Crawford County Trustees Association for more than 50 years, and a Cranberry Township Trustee for 25 years.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John's Lutheran Church in New Washington with the Rev. Joseph Bartczak officiating with burial in the St. John's Lutheran cemetery, New Washington.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Secor Funeral Home in New Washington.

Memorials may be made to the New Washington Historical Society or to the Luther Home of Mercy or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donovan P. Williams
Tiffin residents' father

Donovan P. Williams, 82, of Venice, Fla., died Wednesday, July 19, 2000.

He was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Crooksville. He married Ruth J. Williams. She survives in Venice, Fla.

Other survivors include: three sons, Stephen D. and Daniel P. of Tiffin and Joseph P. of Vancouver, Wash.; six daughters, Elaine Tillman of Orlando, Fla., Mary Jo Scholler of Findlay, Brenda A. Williams of Pittsburgh, Pa., Donna J. Williams of Bradenton, Fla., Theresa A. Williams of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Paula J. Erdakl of Weston, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He served in the Army during World War II; was a owner and operator of a restaurant-bar in Ohio; and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

A memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. July 31 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Theresa V. McDaniel
Tiffin resident's sister

Theresa V. McDaniel, 79, of W. Washington Street, Grafton, W.V., died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Grafton City Hospital.

She was born April 27, 1921, in Grafton, to John M. and Velma C. (Eyler) Dougherty.

Surviving are: two brothers, James R. (Bob) Dougherty of Tiffin and Jerry Vogel of Perrysburg; three sisters, Madeleine Fletcher and Mary Ellen Mahaffey of Chillicothe and Helenamae Baugh of Harrisonburg, Va.; many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by: two brothers, John and Tom Dougherty; seven sisters, Margaret Jenkins, Bernadine Waters, Catherine Menear, Grace Rogers, Ruth Dougherty, June Lee Dougherty and Patricia Hyett.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Saint Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald G. Prechtl as celebrant. Interment will be in Woodsdale Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care Corp., 207 Latrobe St., Grafton, WV 26354 or the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 482, Grafton, WV 26354, or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Bernard A. Widmer
Seneca County farmer

Bernard A. Widmer, 76, 2065 S. SR 53, died at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Seneca County, to Adolf and Ethel (Steyer) Widmer. On June 21, 1947, in St. Joseph Rectory, Tiffin, he married Helen L. Starkey, who preceded him in death June 7, 2000.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Layton of Mayfield Heights; a sister, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Haszel of Oshkosh, Wisc.; and a granddaughter, Alison Layton.

A brother, Paul Widmer, also is deceased.

Mr. Widmer, a 1941 graduate of Melmore High School, attended Heidelberg College until he was drafted into the service in 1943. He served in the U.S. Air Force, 79th Air Squadron in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.

Mr. Widmer, a Seneca County grain farmer, also worked as a welder for Coby Corp., Bucyrus.

A lifetime Seneca County resident, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and boating.

The Rev. Keith Stripe will be the officiant at the 11:30 a.m. Wednesday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church, American Cancer Society of Seneca County or the American Heart Association.
