Maurice Frank, 87, of Sandusky CR 228, Clyde, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 1, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. Arrangements are pending at the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde.

Devin Anthony Cavey
Infant son

Devin Anthony Cavey, infant son of Robert Cavey and Holly Durst of Town Stree, Fostoria, was stillborn at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

Survivors include his parents; maternal grandparents, Michael Durst of Fostoria and Yvette Durst of Carey; Maternal great-grandparents, Marlene Keckler and Harold and Nancy Lewallen, all of Fostoria; Maternal great-great grandmother, Rose Talbott of Fostoria; paternal grandparents, Bill and Phyllis Cavey of Fostoria and paternal great-grandparents, Arthur and Juanette Freeman of Amsden.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Tim E. Bonham
Former Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Tim E. Bonham, 40, of Rio Dell, Calif. who died in July 2000.

He was born April 27, 1960, to Richard and Sharon (Tallman) Bonham, who survive in Tiffin.

Survivors also include a brother, Richard A. Bonham II and a sister, Tracie L. (Bonham) Gilchrist, both of Tiffin; a son, Christon E. Bonham of California, from his marriage to Valerie (Taylor) Cap; and a son and daughter, Johnathan D. and Mary K. Bonham of Fortuna, Calif., from his marriage to Laura (Adams) Bonham.

Mr. Bonham, a 1979 graduate of Columbian High School, had been employed at Tiffin Tire and Retread, Sears and the Plaza Motel in Clyde.

He served in the U.S. Air Force 1980-84, and then was employed at Firestone in Tiffin, before moving..

Before his death he worked at the Pacific Lumber Co. in Scotia, Calif for 14 years.

A memorial service will take place in Fortuna, Calif. on Friday.

A gathering for friends and family will be at 1 p.m., Aug. 6 at Tiffin V.F.W. Post 2858.

Memorials may be made to his children.

Dennis E. Reiter
Tiffin Center resident

Dennis E. Reiter, 50, a resident at the Tiffin Developmental Center, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

He was born April 25, 1950, in Bellevue, to the late Orva W. and Dorothy E. (Schafer) Reiter. He had never married .

Survivors include: his step-mother, Marjorie Fisher Reiter of Bryan; and two sisters, Marcia Stice of Minnesota and Melanie J. Zimmerman of Richmond, Va.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, with the Rev. Jared Williams officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Maurice Arthur Frank
Former Great Lakes Sugar Co. employee

Maurice Arthur Frank, 87, of Sandusky CR 228, Clyde, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Lindsey, to Arthur Charles and Madge (Yeager) Frank. On March 21, 1933, in Charleston, W.Va., he married Kathleen Moore. She survives in Clyde.

Other survivors include: two sons, Arthur Frank of Naples, Fla. and William Frank of Fremont; a daughter, Susan Strausbaugh of Clyde; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Clark of Toledo.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Merle Elizabeth Kemp; and two brothers, William and Howard Frank.

Mr. Frank had been employed at the former Great Lakes Sugar Co. (later Great Western Sugar Co.) in Fremont; Babcock Wilcox, Akron; Northern Indiana Public Service Co., Gary Ind.; and American Ship Building in Toledo, retiring in 1977.

A 1930 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, he also was the owner of the former Modern Building Materials, started in 1948 in Fremont. He also served as an Ohio State Highway Inspector in the 1960s.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 121, both of Fremont.

Visitation will be 10 until time of the service at 11 a.m. Friday in the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and Fremont American Legion Post 121.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Madelyn E. Stahl
Attica resident

Madelyn E. Stahl, 83, of 10129 E. Twp. Rd. 106, Attica, died Thursday, August 03, 2000, at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Tiffin, to Joseph and Cleo (Binder) Angus. On Oct. 27, 1951, she married Alvin W. Stahl in Tiffin, and he survives.

Also surviving include: two sons, Joseph A. Stahl of Attica, and Paul K. Stahl of New Washington; a daughter, Mrs. Victoria Hess of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by: a brother, Joseph Angus II, and two sisters, Joan C. Fredericks and Phyllis Lowery.

Mrs. Stahl was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, a Past President of the Rosary Altar Society, a CCD Teacher, and a 1935 graduate of Calvert High School. Mrs. Stahl had worked at Autolite in Fostoria, and also at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, in Republic, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery in Tiffin.

Visitation hours are from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and 7-9 p.m., at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials or contributions may be made to the Church or to Republic-Scipio EMT.

Paul I. Behm
Attica Cafe owner/operator

Paul I. Behm, 77, of 15 N. Main St., Attica, died Friday evening, Aug. 4, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born July 17, 1923, in Bloomville, to Irvin A. and Florene (Adams) Behm.. On June 8, 1975, he married Doris Bollinger, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Marshall Behm of Silverdale, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Barbara) Schaaf of Attica, Mrs. Kenneth (Victoria) Walliser of Fostoria and Mrs. David (Valerie) Gordon of Stilwell, Kan.; a step-son, Rockne Martin of Attica; four step-daughters, Patricia Kean, Lydia Martin, and Shirley Jaynes, all of Attica and Susan Robbins of Lebanon, Ky.; seven grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Don E. Behm of Republic; and a sister, Dr. Raymond (Zoe Ann) Brown of Lyndhust.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Gordon Behm.

Mr. Behm, who lived in the Bloomville area until moving to Attica in 1972, graduated in 1941 from Bloomville High School and attended Bowling Green State Univeristy and Heidelberg College.

A World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force, ATC veteran, he was the owner and operator of the Attica Cafe for 22 years 1970-1992, and also farmed.

He served as the former distribution manager for Field Enterprises Inc., which distributed the World Book Encyclopedia; worked as a courier for Sutton Bank and assisted Pancoast Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Republic.

Mr. Behm was a member of Attica United Methodist Church, where he was active with the choir; served on the Seneca County Fair Board, referreed local high school basketball and football and was a life member of the Bloomville American Legion.

He also was a member of Willard VFW, Eden Lodge 310 Free and Accepted Masons, Accent Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Temple Shrine, Toledo; and Luella Chapter Order Eastern Star. He was a former member of Willard Eagles and Elks.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, with the Rev. Thomas Kalb officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Township cemetery, Attica.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 6:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Attica United Methodist Church, Mill Street, Attica, OH or the Seneca East Public Library, 14 N. Main St., Attica.

Edward H. "Bus" Lydey
ITT Sterling retiree

Edward H. "Bus" Lydey, 89, 100 Minerva St., died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in St. Francis Home, where he had resided since November 1996.

He was born April 26, 1911, in Seneca County, to John and Gertrude (Mutchler) Lydey. On June 27, 1941, in Defiance, he married Clara Louise Hussey. She survives.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Marcia) Tidwell of Aurora, Barbara Lydey of Johnstown, Mrs. Richard (Margaret) Woodford of Naperville, Ill., and Mrs. Eugene (Deborah) Klara of Punta Gorda, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Six brothers, Emmitt, William, Harry, Woody, Charles and John Lydey, and a sister, Margaret Lydey, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Lydey, a 1929 graduate of Columbian High School, retired from ITT Sterling.

He enjoyed playing golf.

A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marilin Miller officiating. Burial in Mexico cemetery will be private.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. preceding the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

There will be a luncheon following the service in the Multi-Purpose Room at St. Francis Home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Wing at St. Francis Home or the University Alzheimer's Center, 12200 Fairhill Road, Cleveland, OH 44120.

Mary M. Leingang
Sister of Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of long-time Cleveland resident, Mary M. Leingang, 86, of Vandalia, who died Monday, July 10, 2000.

Survivors include a sister, Eleanor Amann of Tiffin; two daughters, Margaret Mary Leingang of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Mrs. Jim (Jane) Baker of Vandalia; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Leingang.

A memorial Mass took place Aug. 1 in St. Christopher Parish, Vandalia.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the House of Bread, P.O. Box 60277, Dayton, OH 45406-0277.

The Baker/Hazel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Clayton Garland
Retired professor

Walter Clayton Garland, 91, of Houston, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, as the result of a stroke.

He was born Nov. 16, 1909, and grew up in North Central Ohio. His first wife, Eunice (Knippenberg) Garland, whom he married in 1931, is deceased. In 1983, he married Ellen Sherck Good, who survives. He became a father to four stepchildren and grandfather to 10 step-grandchildren.

Survivors include: a son, David of Virginia; a daughter, Martha of Rochester, N.Y.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A son, Roger, died at the age of 4.

Mr. Garland graduated from Heidelberg College in 1930 and began his long career in education as a teacher and athletic coach at Thompson High School, advanced to principal and then superintendent.

He earned his Ph.D at Ohio State University and became supervisor for the State of Ohio Department of Education; served as professor at Bethany College in West Virginia; as superintendent of schools in Alliance, Ohio, and then assistant superintendent in the Youngstown school system. His last position before retirement was as a professor in the Education Department of the University of Eastern Illinois, Charleston, Ill.

Professor Garland, who became a Houston resident in 1983, was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Zion Church of Christ, Fireside.

Stephen C. Acierno
Retired principal/teacher/coach

Stephen C. Acierno, 88, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at his residence at 106 Shumaker Drive, Bellevue.

He was born June 18, 1912, in Youngstown, to Carmine and Gaetanella "Mary" (Colucci) Acierno. On June 6, 1941, in Hampton, Va., he married Mary Ellen Beckman. She survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Thomas A. Acierno of Galion; a daughter, Mary Frisch of Tiffin; two grandchildren, a great-grandson, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.; a brother, Victor Acierno of Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Helen Sharpe of Columbus.

Two brothers and two sisters, also are deceased.

Mr. Acierno received his bachelor's degree in education in 1939 at Shepherd College in West Virginia, where he was voted outstanding freshmen boy, best citizen boy, served as president of the student body in 1938; and was captain of the football team.

He served in the U.S. Army 1943-46 and then earned his master's degree in education from Ohio University in 1948. He received his educational specialist degree from Bowling Green State University in 1965.

He taught chemistry, physics and served as tennis coach at Hampton High School 1940-42; taught chemistry, physics and general science, as well as coached basketball, tennis and six-man football in 1942 at Margaretta High School, where he served as principal 1954-74 and was certified as provisional superintendent and permanent principal. He also served as principal of St. Francis High School in Tiffin 1974-78, and was certified as provisional superintendent and permanent principal.

Mr. Acierno was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 752, the Kiwanis Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society, American Legion Post 46, Twin Lakes Golf Courses and Club Amer-Ital, all of Bellevue. He also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio Association of Secondary School Principals, National Association of Secondary School Principal's and the Ohio Education Association.

He also was a member of the AMVETS in Sandusky and served as a scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 221, Bellevue, for 20 years.

The Rev. Robert Tucceri will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic cemetery, where military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Bellevue VFW Post 1238 and American Legion Post 46.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, in care of MIchael Harman, 616 E. Main St., Bellevue, OH 44811.

Nancy A. Alley
Webster Industries employee

Former Republic resident, Nancy A. Alley, 64, 327 Ella St., died Tuesday morning, Aug. 8, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center, following an illness of several months.

She was born Dec. 1, 1935, in Republic, to Loran and Lois (Frase) Hopple. On Sept. 15, 1956, in Republic, she married Robert "Buck" Alley. He died Oct. 14, 1994.

Surviving are a son, Ryan Alley of Bellevue; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Roberta) Bridinger of Tiffin; two grandchildren; three brothers, Loyal Hopple of Tiffin, Donald Hopple of Republic and James Hopple of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

She also was preceded in death by her father in 1970 and her mother in 1989.

Mrs. Alley worked in the office at the former General Electric in Tiffin for 28 years, and in the office at Webster Industries in Tiffin since 1984, where she most recently worked as an administrative assistant.

She was a member of Tiffin Eagles Auxiliary 402 and the Republic United Church of Christ, where she was a former Sunday School pianist and kindergarten teacher .

She also was a member of Cornelia Chapter 93 Order Eastern Star, Republic, where she served as past worthy matron (1959) and past treasurer and Toledo Colony of Mayflower Descendants, where she also was past treasurer.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Republic United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jeffrey King officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, where Eastern Star services will be at 6:30 p.m. conducted by Cornelia Chapter 93 Order Eastern Star.

Memorials may be made to Republic United Church of Christ, St. Jacobs United Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society or Fremont Memorial Hospice.
