Ruth Hartley
Rural Bellevue homemaker

Ruth Hartley, 81, formerly of 7232 CR 175, Bellevue, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in the Bellevue Care Center.

She was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Kennigston, Md., to Merrit and Ruby (Pearson) Haff. Her husband, LeeRoy "Jeff" Hartley, whom she married Nov. 15, 1935, died in 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Mike Hartley of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Bill Hartley of Bellevue; two daughters, Sandy Rathbun of Bellevue and Sue Ferguson of Portage, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A sister, a brother and a great-granddaughter, also are deceased.

Mrs. Hartley, a housewife, was a member of Seybert United Methodist Church and a former member of the Bellevue Hospital Gray Ladies.

An avid golfer, she scored a hole in one at the King's Pointe Golf Course in Sun City, Fla. on the same day as her husband scored a hole in one.

The Rev. Art Toebergte will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Tuesday service in Seybert United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Parkhurst cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or the church.

Ralph F. Whealan
Retired truck driver

Ralph F. Whealan, 83, 246 Hudson St., died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at his daughter's home at 100 Clinton Ave.

He was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Tiffin, to Ralph E. and Anna L. (Cahill) Whealan.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Chris (Judith) Hafley and Mrs. Kenneth (Suzanne) Schock, both of Tiffin; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Werner of Oak Harbor; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Also preceding him in death were a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Whealan, a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, retired as a truck driver from Cooper-Jarrett.

He also was a member of Moose Lodge 846 and a social member of VFW Post 6067 and DAV 34.

A memorial service will be at noon Tuesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. The rosary will be recited at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. His body has been donated to the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care.

Sister Eveline Hug
St. Francis resident

Sister Eveline Hug, 84, of Sisters of St. Francis, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at the St. Francis Convent.

She was born Jan. 14, 1916, in Edon to Albert and Frances Hug. Surviving are a brother, Cleo Hug of Edon, and a sister, Mary Catherine Zellinger of Thomasville, Ga.

Three brothers, Herman, Leo and Frederick Hug, are deceased.

She attended Toledo Teachers' College and Toledo DeSales College with the date of Reception of Aug. 30, 1931; First Profession, March 8, 1934; and Final Profession, March 8, 1937.

She was a teacher at Carey, Fort Jennings, Custar and Willard. She also taught in Texas at Laferia, Alamo, Weslaco and Progreso and served as principal at schools in Custar and Fort Jennings. In the early 1990s, she served as a social worker and Hispanic minister in Mexico.

Msg. Edward Dunn will officiate the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Convent Chapel with a wake service being conducted at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Helen W. Austermiller
Green Springs homemaker

Helen W. Austermiller, 81, of rural Green Springs died at 4:35 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in Fremont Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Wednesday.

Mrs. Austermiller was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Holgate to Albert and Clara (Zachrich) Welz. On May 29, 1941, she married Hugh H. Austermiller, who died Aug. 23, 1991.

Survivors include: a son, Jan D. of Salem, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Kay) Hunter of Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Welz of Holgate; and three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Renata) Harper of Ormond Beach, Fla., Virginia Alleman of Findlay and Anna M. Williams of Toledo.

A sister, Marguerite Reimund, is deceased.

She was a 1936 graduate of Holgate High School; a homemaker; and a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

A memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the clergyman being the Rev. Jerry K. Wiles. A private burial will be in Glenwood cemetery at Napoleon.

Visitation is from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Old Fort United Methodist Church.

Amanda Elizabeth Townes-Fuller
Tiffin GE retiree

Amanda Elizabeth Townes-Fuller, 66, of Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born June 8, 1934, in Williamson, W.V. to Oscar and Lucy (Praer) Townes. She married Floyd Fuller, Jr. on May 6, 1951, in Kentucky and he survives in Delray Beach, Fla.

Other survivors include: four sons, David of Delray Beach, John of Tiffin, Benjamin of Fostoria and Christopher of Lima; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Barbara) Jackson of Fostoria; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alice Medley of Williamson, W.Va., Thelma Milton of Chicago and Josephine Braggs of Detroit.

Her parents; a daughter, Jane Fuller; two brothers, Robert and Charles Townes; and two sisters, Estelle Oliver and Shirley McDonald, are deceased.

Mrs. Fuller retired from General Electric in Tiffin and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Fostoria.

The Pastor Tonee Morant will officiate the graveside service in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, Tuesday at 11 a.m.

There will be a private family viewing.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Services are being handled by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Bernita M. Brickner
Homemaker/retired clerk

Bernita M. "Bea" Brickner, 76, died at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at her home at 723 Buckley St., Fostoria.

She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in Tiffin, to Raymond and Remah (Phelps;) Gase.On April 13, 1944, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married Paul C. Brickner, who preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1971.

Survivors include: a son, James P. Brickner of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. David (Carol) Wagner of Tiffin; a sister, Mary Hoepf of Republic; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Robert and Harold Gase; and a sister, Florence Fruth.

Mrs. Brickner, a homemaker, also retired as a clerk from St. Vincent DePaul Store in Fostoria.

She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where she served as a greeter; the Just For Friends Singles Group, which she helped form; St. Patrick's Sewing Group at the Good Shepherd Home; Women of the Moose and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, all of Fostoria. She also served as a volunteer at the Sharing Kitchen, also of Fostoria.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Andrew Parish cemetery, Liberty Township.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the church.

Wilson E. Gruber
Union Carbide retiree

Wilson E. Gruber, 92, of Culbertson Street, Fostoria, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 30, 1907, in Grabil, Ind., to Charles and Ella (Zimmerman) Gruber. His wife, Anna R. (Widmer) Gruber, whom he married Nov. 15, 1924, in Monroe, Mich., died Dec. 26, 1988.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Harold Gruber; and a sister, Millie Klever, also are deceased.

Mr. Gruber, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, retired in 1967 as a foreman from the Union Carbide (now National Electric Carbon) in Fostoria, where he had been employed for 33 years.

He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and VFW Post 421, both of Fostoria and the American Legion of Bradner.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Bradner cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria. The Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite will officiate.

There will be no visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Jose Sanchez
Pastry chef

Jose Sanchez, 40, of Richmond, Va., died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital. Richmond.

He was born Aug. 27, 1959, in Pharr, Texas, to Jose DeLaCruz Sanchez and Simona S. Santos, who survive in Fremont.

Other survivors include: nine brothers, Ricardo Sanchez of Richmond, Juan, Ramiro, Gustavo, Avelardo, Humberto and Larry Sanchez, all of Fremont, Gilberto Sanchez of Sandusky and Lionel Sanchez of Bellevue; three sisters, Alcia Hernandez of Ecorse, Mich. and Maria M. Hernandez and Maria Soledad Sanchez, both of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; a brother, Diego Sanchez; and two nephews.

Mr. Sanchez, a 1978 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, was employed as a pastry chef at the Chez Foushee in Richmond.

He enjoyed gardening, animals and helping others.

The Rev. Mark Herzog will be the officiate at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fremont. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, where a Vigil service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Ralph J. Schreiner
Former Ralph's Shoes owner/operator

Ralph J. Schreiner, 88, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at his home at 915A Tucker Lane, Fremont.

He was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Republic, to Anthony and Mary (Dendinger) Schreiner. He first married Helen Miller in 1939, and she died in 1973. He later married Eugenia "Jean" Schuck Bierly in 1974, and she survives in Fremont.

Survivors also include: a step-son, Gary Bierly of Elyria; a step-daughter, Kathleen Brooks of Fremont; five step-grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Schreiner, the former owner/operator of Ralph's Shoes in Tiffin and Fostoria, was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Community Church, the Elks and Moose.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars, Philippines Liberation Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Ann Catholic Community Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Tiffin.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, Fremont, where Elks services will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Juanita V. Knierim
Former Fostoria resident

Former Fostoria resident, Juanita V. Knierim, 88, of Little Falls, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, in Little Falls. Local arrangements are pending at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Wilbur B. Lawrence
Wyandot County native

Wilbur B. Lawrence, 86,of Lauderhill, Fla., formerly of Wyandot County, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the home of his daughter at 535 Betty Lou St., Upper Sandusky.

He was born Dec. 15, 1913, in Wyandot County, to John Alvin and Emma Edna (Bishop) Lawrence. His former wife, Mary "Maggie" Bennell, is deceased. He later married Margaret Weyandt, and she also is deceased.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Amaryllis) Williams of Toledo and Mrs. Rex (Judith) Radabaugh of Upper Sandusky; a son, David A. Lawrence of Pickerington; three step-children, Betty Piecuch and Al Weyandt, both of Lauderhill and Paul Weyandt of Milwaukee, Wisc.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; two brothers, John Lawrence of Clemson, S.C. and Arlo Lawrence of Winter Haven, Fla.

A brother, Orin Lawrence, also is deceased..

Mr. Lawrence, a 1931 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, retired as a tool and die maker from G.M. in Mansfield.

He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Florida, the UAW Union and the G.M. Retiree Association, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where he served as past president.

He enjoyed health foods, exercising, including swimming and walking, gardening, traveling and his annual visits to Upper Sandusky for family reunions and his U.S.H.S. alumni banquets.

The Rev. Cathy Wirth will conduct the 3 p.m. service today in the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where.visitation is 1-3 p.m. today.

Visitation also will take place 6-8 p.m. Saturday and a service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Forest Lawn and Memorial Garden Funeral Home, Ft. Lauderdale.

Memorials may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital Coronary Unit, Wyandot County EMS or the U.S.H.S. Alumni.
