Virginia Mae Stombaugh
Receptionist/writer

Virginia Mae Stombaugh, 84, formerly of 619 W. Findlay St., Carey, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born April 19, 1916, in Syracuse, Ind., to John and Emma (Rentfrow) Snobarger. On May 5, 1934, in Portland, Ind., she married W.L. "Bill" Stombaugh, who survives.

Survivors also include: a son, John P. Stombaugh of London, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Owen (Phyllis R.) Burks of Tiffin; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred C. Snobarger of Carey; and two sisters, Shirley Caudill and Mrs. H.R. "Dick" (Mary Francis) Wenner, both of Carey.

She also was preceded in death by two infant brothers; and a sister, Martha Miller.

Mrs. Stombaugh, a 1934 graduate of Carey High School, worked as a receptionist for Dr. Huston in Carey for 10 years;.

She also wrote the article "Down Memory Lane" for the Carey Progressor-Times from the early '70s to late '80s and worked for other businesses in Carey and New Carlisle, Ind.

She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey, where she was past president of the Mary Martha Class and served on several boards.

She also was a member of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild, Carey High School Alumni Association, Wyandot County Historical Society and Wyandot County Home Extension Club, where she served as past president of both; the Antique Appreciation Club, where she was vice president; served as regent of the Col. William Crawford Chapter of D.A.R. and as an honorary member of the Buckeye Horse Club.

The Rev. Paul DeMoss will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Home Health Agency or Wyandot County Historical Society, in care of the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-1169.

Ruth H. Haas
Wampum, Pa. resident

Ruth H. Haas, 78, of Wampum, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

Her daughter, Mary Jo Geise, survives in Findlay.

Services and burial will be in Wampum under the direction of the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Cynthia (Olds) White
Former Tiffin resident

Cynthia (Olds) White, 56, of 440 Circleview Drive North, Hurst, Texas, a former Tiffin resident, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2000, at her home, after an illness of one and a half years.

She was born Jan. 20, 1944, in Tiffin, to the late Robert and Doris (McClelland) Olds, who died in 1999. On April 11, 1992, in Dallas, Texas, she married James McMeans, who survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Robert O. Godsey of Palm Springs, Calif.; two step-sons, Jay McMeans of Dallas and Stuart McMeans of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Linda Maloy of Galion and Mrs. Brad (Stacey) Hufford of Tiffin; a special friend; and two godchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Godsey in 1989.

Mrs. White worked as a systems analysis for the Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

A 1962 graduate of Columbian High School, she was a member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Hurst; and served as a volunteer for Warmplace in Fort Worth, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas, with Dr. Henry Radde officiating.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert S. Walton
Retired farmer

Robert S. Walton, 96, of Wyandot CR 122, Upper Sandusky, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Grant Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

He was born Jan. 8, 1904, in Wyandot County, to Jasper Newton and Norabell (Smith) Walton. On Sept. 29, 1927, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky, he married Marie Rose Luthy, who died Dec. 10, 1986.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Ruth) Mayle of Lewis Center and Mrs. David (Martha) Oman of Findlay; three sons, Richard, Harry and Carl, all of Upper Sandusky; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fonda Garrigues of Nevada.

Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Arthur, Emery, Howard and Ward; and three sisters, Alice Neate, Elsie Neate and Gladys McClain.

Mr. Walton, a retired farmer, enjoyed wood working, traveling and sharing time with friends at the Upper Sandusky McDonald's Restaurant.

In 1927, he joined Trinity Evangelical Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, where he was a Sunday School teacher for more than 65 years; a member of its Berean Sunday School class; served as a trustee; was a member of its administrative board and served as former Sunday School superintendent.

A lifetime member of the Gideons' International, he attended the one-room Hardscrabble School in Crane Township to the 8th grade .

The Rev. Derik Hines will conduct the 11 a.m. Thursday service in Trinity Evangelical Methodist Church. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, and one hour before the service at the church Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church or Gideon's International, in care of the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Ronald Elton Koehler
Life-long farmer

Ronald Elton Koehler, 68, died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at his home on CH 39, Upper Sandusky.

He was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Crane Townwhip, Wyandot County, to the late Elton and Luella (Wyss) Koehler. On Aug. 28, 1955, he married Miriam J. Corfman, who lives in Upper Sandusky.

Other survivors include: a son, Daniel R. Koehler of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Koehler of Sycamore; and a sister, Mrs. Ed (Elaine) Henn of Annapolis, Md.

A brother, Kenneth, also is deceased.

Mr. Koehler, a life-long farmer, was a 1951 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School where he played football, basketball and was a member of the track team.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a truck driver with 27,505 miles of driving during the Korean Conflict.

He was a life member of both AMVETS 777 and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky, and a member of its baseball team, the Salem Grange and the Wyandot County Farm Bureau,.

An avid motorcycle rider, he collected arrow heads, enjoyed deer and fox hunting, fishing and playing cards.

He played dartball since 1952, as a charter member of the church Dartball League, where he had perfect attendance for 38 years.

Pastor Jerry Elsholz will conduct the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Smithville cemetery, rural Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local veteran's organizations.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County or the church, in care of the Bringman Clark and Company Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Emma Elizabeth 'Betty' Zbinden
Former college music director

Emma Elizabeth "Betty" Zbinden, 85, 63 Warren St., died at 9:26 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, following a brief illness.

She was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Shelbyville, Ind., to L. Richard and Frances (Morris) Bryant. On Sept. 7, 1941, in Shelbyville, she married Albert T. Zbinden, who died Feb. 16, 1980.

Survivors include: a son, Terry Bryant Zbinden of Maple Grove, Minn.; a daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Zbinden of Tiffin; a daughter-in-law; and a grandson, John Terrence Zbinden.

Mrs. Zbinden, a resident of Tiffin since 1951, was a former music teacher in the St. Clair Shores, Michigan School system. She also worked as former director of music and as a French instructor at Defiance College.

A Summa cum laude 1937 graduate of Western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio with an A.B. degree, she earned her master of music degree from the University of Michigan in 1938.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a former elder, Sunday School teacher, member of the church choir since 1951 and past member and president of the Presbyterian Women's Association.

She also served as past president of the former Tiffin Civic Music Association and was a past member of the American Association of University Women.

Graveside services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Forest Hill cemetery, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Richard E. Mahlman of Tiffin Presbyterian, officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Emma 'Betty' Zbinden
Memorial services

Memorial services for Emma Elizabeth "Betty" Zbinden, 85, 63 Warren St., who died Sept. 2, 2000, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin.

Graveside services were held Sept. 9 in Forest Hill cemetery in Shelbyville.

Robert M. 'Chief' Reinhart
Security watchman

Robert M. "Chief" Reinhart, 51, of 6559 W. CR 6, Berwick, died at 5:32 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born June 1, 1949, in Tiffin, to the late Ludwig J. and Theresa A. (Nye) Reinhart.

Survivors include: his companion, Alice M. Roswurm of Berwick; a daughter, Cathleen M. Roswurm and a son, Paul A. Roswurm, both of Berwick; a granddaughter and a grandson; four sisters, Rosemary Bland of Berwick, Matilda "Loretta" Wentz of McCutchenville and Martha R. Heyman and Barbara T. Tiell, both of Tiffin; two brothers, Carl J. Reinhart of McCutchenville and Paul L. Reinhart of Berwick; and nieces and nephews.

A brother, John F. Reinhart, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Reinhart worked for Burns Security, Toledo, as a watchman for Farmland Food in New Riegel. He also was an assembler at the Work Connection, Tiffin and worked in outsourcing at EP Enterprises, Findlay.

A 1967 graduate of New Riegel High School, he was an avid car racing fan.

The Rev. Conrad Sutter will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to McAuley Health Services, in care of Mercy Hospital, 485 W. Market St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.

Oral L. Smith
Retired homemaker

Oral L. Smith, 94, a resident of Autumnwood Care Center, died there at 6:57 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000.

She was born Sept. 6, 1905, in Wood County, to Boyd and Marie (Burns) Henderson. On May 18, 1921, in Fremont, she married Charles H. Smith, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a daughter, Olive Thompson of Tiffin; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Paul L. Smith; a daughter, Owana Franklin; a sister, Vivian Smith; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ilo L. Broughton
Homemaker

Ilo L. Broughton, 76, formerly of 465 Miami St., died at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, in St. Francis Home.

She was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Tiffin, to Vernon and Ada (Adams) Gibson. On Nov. 28, 1943, in Bennettville, S.C., she married Joe T. Broughton, who preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1983.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sharon) Black, Mrs. Susan Schubach and Mrs. Stephen (Janis) Panuto, all of Tiffin;; three brothers, Vernon Jr. and Wayne Gibson, both of Tiffin and Richard Gibson of Lyons, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Alton (Corrine) Raudebaugh of Tiffin and Ginny Davis of Chelan, Wash.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a brother, Robert Gibson; and a sister, Vivianne Perry.

Mrs. Broughton, a homemaker, was a 1942 graduate of Columbian High School. She was a member of the Second United Church of Christ.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arthur Geyh officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Steven Robert Dryfuse
Tiffin native

Steven Robert Dryfuse, 48, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, where he resided.

He was born in Tiffin, May 11, 1952, to Robert LeRoy and Edith C. (Heazlit) Dryfuse. His mother survives in Tiffin. He never married .

Survivors also include: a sister, Karen Sue Wesilewski of Colonial Heights, Va.; and two nephews, James Robert and Jeffrey Alan Wesilewski.

His father is deceased.

Mr. Dryfuse, a member of the First Lutheran Church, was a former Tiffin resident.

Memorial services are at 10 a.m. today in the Lutheran Home of Mercy.

Local services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Margaret Marks officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or Luther Home of Mercy, 5810 N. Main St., Williston, Ohio 43468.
