Jessop Ignatius McDonnell
Father of Bellevue doctor

Jessop I. "JJ" McDonnell, 77, of Seaview, Wash., died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Tacoma, Wash.

He was born June 19, 1923, in Walla Walla, Wash., one of five children born to Morrin and Mary (Jessop) McDonnell. His former wife, Vyonne (Stam) McDonnell, survives in Olympia, Wash.

Other survivors include: three sons, Kirk P. McDonnell of Olympia, Dr. Kevin M. McDonnell of Dallas, Texas and Dr. Jessop M. McDonnell of Bellevue; a sister, Flavia Niebergall of Portland, Ore.; and 14 grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, the Rev. Joseph and Don McDonnell; and a sister, Sister Mary Immaculata McDonnell.

Mr. McDonnell attended St. Patrick's Elementary in Walla Walla and in 1937 moved with his family to Lacey, Wash, where he graduated from St. Martin's High School, attended St. Martin's College in Lacy and Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

A World War II U. S. Marine Corps veteran, he lived in Silver Springs, Md., where he worked in the nation's capital as an assistant for the National Democratic Platform Committee, assistant to the Secretary of the Minority of the U.S. Senate, assistant to the secretary of the Majority of the Senate and was an Advance Man for President John F. Kennedy. Following his retirement he lived in Seaview, where he had maintained a residence since 1995.

He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church, Seaview; was a member of both the Ocean Park Moose and Eagles Lodges and enjoyed fishing, clamming, socializing and helping others.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday immediately following a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the church hall.

Concluding graveside service with military honors will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in River View cemetery, Portland.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Friday in the Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach, Wash.

Memorials may be made to the JJ McDonnell Memorial Van Fund at Ocean Park Eagles Lodge, P.O. Box 280, Ocean Park, Wash. 98640.

Grace E. (Klinger) Reed
Former U-Brand Industries employee

Grace E. (Klinger) Reed, 77, formerly of 300 Highland Parkway, Upper Sandusky, died at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, where she resided.

She was born April 6, 1923, in Antrim Township, Wyandot County, to Christopher C. and Maude (Starner) Klinger. She was formerly married to Charles R. Reed.

Survivors include: a daughter, Irene Fryman of Columbus; three sons, David E. Reed of Sycamore, Danny E. Reed of Republic and Norman R. Reed of Plain City; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Gerber of Nevada, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Helen A. Bell.

Mrs. Reed had worked for U-Brand Industries in Upper Sandusky before her retirement. Before that she worked for the Swan Rubber Co. in Bucyrus.

She attended the Apostolic Gospel Church, Upper Sandusky and enjoyed fishing and raising flowers.

The Rev. Greg Hord will be the officiant at the 2 p.m. Saturday service in the Lucas Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will be in Nevada cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Wyandot County, in care of the Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 207, Nevada, OH 44849.

Eugene P. 'Nips' Gaietto
General Electric retiree

Eugene P. "Nips" Gaietto, 69, 132 S. Tecumseh Trail, died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Tiffin, to Louis and Irma M. (Roos) Gaietto. His mother survives in Tiffin. His wife, Arlene (Shetterly) Gaietto, whom he married Nov. 6, 1954, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Michael Gaietto of Alexandria, Va. and Jeff Gaietto of Tiffin; five daughters, Mrs. David (Kathleen) Cummings of Waukesha, Wisc., Linda Sue Gaietto of Columbus; Mrs. Steve (Doris) Zirger of Tiffin, Mrs. Dan (Bonnie) Fortin of Columbus and Mrs. Tom (Shelly) Coffman, also of Tiffin; five brothers, Vincent Gaietto of Tiffin, Lawrence Gaietto of Lima, Louis Gaietto of Tiffin, Tom Gaietto of Bowling Green, Ky. and Joseph Gaietto of Paris, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Art (Margaret) Schleter and Mrs. Ivan (Irma Rose) Hill, both of Tiffin and Sister Angela OSU of Toledo; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Sister Merici.

Mr. Gaietto, a 1948 Calvert High School graduate, retired in 1986 as a foreman from the General Electric Co. in Tiffin, after 35 years of employment.

A U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Sandusky Valley Riders, Moose Lodge and the General Electric Rifle Club.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Calvert Foundation or Community Hospice Care.

Catherine E. Hirt
Former Fremont resident

Catherine "Betty" E. Hirt (Haas), 85, formerly of N. Fifth St., Fremont, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. She was born Sept. 20, 1914 in Sandusky County to Frank and Carrie (Williams) Haas. On Dec. 12, 1936 she married Russell Hirt at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, he died July 24, 1984.

Surviving include: three sons, Douglas A. Hirt of Fostoria, Gary L. Hirt of Bellevue, and Bruce N. Hirt of Fremont; two daughters, Jacqueline Diekman-Hawk of Perrysburg, and Carol Glick of Green Springs; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: four brothers, Carl, Richard and William Haas and Francis Neuman; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Hirt was a 1932 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. She was employed by Hilt Insurance Company and the Farm Loan Association until she married , then was a homemaker. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Hope Circle and the Inbetweeners at the church. She also loved playing the piano, cards and genealogy.

The Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000 at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation hours are from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church and/or Birchard Library.

William J. Kovasckitz
Whirlpool Corporation retiree

William J. Kovasckitz, 68, of 347 Sycamore St., Tiffin, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000 at Autumnwood Care Center. He was born May 9, 1932 to William and Emma (Magers) Kovasckitz, both are deceased. On Feb. 4, 1956 he married Mary Bihn at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, David Kovasckitz of Tiffin; three daughters, Kathleen Spitzer of Clyde, Kristine Koebel, and Laurie Wolf, both of Fremont; a brother, Thomas Kovasckitz of Hope Mills, N.C.; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren.

Mr. Kovasckitz retired in 1995 from Clyde Whirlpool Corporation after 45 years as a paint inspector. A War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Okinawa from 1952 thru 1954 and in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Msgr. Edward Dunn will officiate the 1 p.m. Saturday funeral service at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Tiffin Right To Life; Calvert High School; and/or St. Joseph Activity Center.

Dennis M. Clouse
Lifelong Tiffin resident

Dennis M. Clouse, 47, of 3022 W. CR 6, Tiffin, died, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He was born April 5, 1953 in Tiffin to Luke G. and Carolyn M. (Mang) Clouse, both parents survive in Tiffin. On Nov. 16, 1974 he married Bernadine Bell in St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Travis L. Clouse of home; a daughter, Mrs. Amy L. Gillig of Tiffin; three brothers, Jim. E. Clouse of Tiffin, Tim L. Clouse of Fremont, and Phillip G. Clouse of Wooster; four sisters, Mrs. Linda Otte of Fostoria, Mrs. Cathleen Painter of Fostoria, Mrs. Lori Huth of Tiffin, and Mrs. Mary Beth Ziegler of Fostoria; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: two nephews, Cody and Cheyenne Clouse; and a brother-in-law, Mark A. Bell.

Mr. Clouse was a 1971 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, Bascom, he worked as a machine operator for Sonoco Company for eight years and was previously employed by Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, and an equipment operator at Basic Refractories for 12 years. A member of Christ's Church of Tiffin; president of McCutchenville's Baseball League Board, and coach of McCutchenville Baseball League; and served as president of the McCutchenville Fire Department Board. An avid conservationist, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and reading.

The Rev. Jon Bravinder will officiate the 9:30 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Christ's Church at Tiffin, corner of US 224 and SR 18. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., tonight, at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Clouse Family c/o Fifth Third bank, Tiffin, Ohio.

Ona I. Love
Retired GE employee

Ona I. Love, 90, of 504 Hedges St., died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in her daughter's home.

She was born June 8, 1910, in Boone, Iowa, to Edgar and Margaret (Mayfield) Dawson. She married James E. Love Dec. 6, 1930, in Jefferson, Iowa, and they were divorced.

Survivors include a son, Herbert E. Love; and a daughter, Mrs. James (Phyllis) Wagner, both of Tiffin; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren..

Preceding her in death were a son, James; six brothers; and three sisters.

She was a high school graduate; retired from General Electric in 1975 after 29 years of service working in quality control; volunteered at St. Paul's Sharing Kitchen and for Mercy Mobile Meals; a member of First Lutheran Church and of Geowots Club.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the First Luthern Church with the Rev. Margaret Marks and the Rev. James Steinle officiating with burial following in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care; Ecumenical Sharing Kitchen; First Lutheran Church; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mildred M. DeLong
Upper Sandusky homemaker

Mildred M. DeLong, 83, formerly of 203 E. Crawford St., Upper Sandusky, died at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in the Fairhaven Health Care Community.

She was born March 27, 1917, in Wyandot County to Charles H. and Martha B. (Margraf) DeLong.

She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Dwight (Martha) Leach of Dayton; and two nephews, John and Dennis DeLong of Nevada. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Lloyd and Ivan; and a sister, Frieda DeLong.

She was a homemaker; enjoyed taking care of her niece and nephews; and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Women Circle No. 2 of the church and of the Sunday School class.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will be in Schoenberger cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Fairhaven Health Care Community, % Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

John J. Alge
Fostoria residents' brother

John J. Alge, 51, of 3310 Shiloh Dr., Lima, died at his residence at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2000.

Mr. Alge was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Fostoria, to Ray D. and Bernice M. (Karns) Alge who are both deceased. He married Joyce A. Kromer in Carey at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation on May 2, 1970, and she survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Jason J. of Columbus; two daughters, Jill R. of Moultrie, Ga. and Jennifer A. at home; two brothers, Mike of Fostoria and Tim of Covington; three sisters, Gloria Tusing of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Alge of Fostoria and Betty Alge of Sidney.

Preceding him in death were: an infant son, Jamie; a brother, Richard R.; and a sister, Theresa Alge.

Graduating in 1966 from Fostoria High School, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam War; worked for the past 32 years for General Dynamics in Fostoria and Lima as an inspector/assembler UAW Local 2075 Lima; volunteered as a soccer coach for the Lima YMCA and Lima Bath School youth programs; and of the Methodist faith.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Ernest Waechter OPM Conv. officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations at St. Mary's cemetery in Carey.

Visitation is at Siferd's Westwood Chapel Sunday from 6-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Rita's Hospice or Hospice of Wyandot County, c/o of the funeral home.

Jan P. Hofstetter
Fremont resident

Jan Paul Hofstetter, 46, of Fremont died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2000, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hofstetter was born to Frank and Mary Hofstetter Nov. 13, 1953, in Sandusky.

Survivors include: his parents; a brother, Dennis of Fremont; two sisters, Becky Summerset of Haskins and Amy Patuto of Tiffin; and various nieces and nephews.

He was a 1971 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and a 1973 graduate of Terra Community College earning an associates degree in business; drove a show truck for Sealmaster in Sandusky; a member of St. Ann Catholic Community; an avid bowler, fisherman, gardener and earned his Eagle Scout while in Boy Scouts and was helping with the St. Ann Boy Scout Troop #339.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Ann Catholic Church with burial in St. Ann cemetery.

Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary in Fremont where a wake service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the St. Ann Boy Scout Troop #339, c/o Dennis Setzler, Scout Master.

Marion L. Cox
Former Clyde resident

Marion L. Cox, 74, of Miraloma, Calif. and formerly of Clyde, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Parkview Community Hospital, Riverside, Calif.

She was born June 8, 1926, in Massillon to Herbert M. and Mary L. (Hartnett) Cox.

A cousin, Mrs. Marguerite Paule of Bryan and formerly of Clyde, survives.

Miss Cox was an elementary school teacher for many years and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Clyde.

Visitation will be at Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde, Tuesday after 1 p.m. with prayers being recited at 1:45 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Fr. Jeff Nordhaus officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School, Clyde.
