Clarence R. Leaver
Former Junior Home Kid

Clarence R. Leaver, 76, died at his residence in Tiffin between 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 and 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000.

He was born Dec.15, 1923, in Davidson County, Nashville, Tenn., to John W. and Amanda (Ferris) Leaver. He had never married .

Survivors include: a brother, Jeff Leaver of Tiffin; a half-brother, Edward Medlin of Dayton; a sister, Mrs. James (Lena Mae) Hamilton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a half-sister, Mrs. Lewis (Margie) Meadows of Old Hickory, Tenn.

Also preceding him in death were two half-brothers, Sam and Odell.

Mr. Leaver, who was raised at the Tiffin Junior Order Home 1925-41, retired in 1982 from the Basic Refactories, where he had been employed for 32 years in janitorial.

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church; the New Riegel American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, where he was a life member of both; Tiffin VFW 2858, Izaak Walton League, VFW Military Order of Cootie and the National Mustang Association.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Africian Campaign, France and Germany, he served as a volunteer at the Sharing Kitchen at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Captain Bruce Eckhart will conduct the 7 p.m. Monday service in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Hermitage, Tenn.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home where Veteran services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. by the United Veterans Council of New Riegel.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Lung Association.

Zola L. Morrow
Eighth Avenue homemaker

Zola L. Morrow, 60, died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her residence at 144 Eighth Ave.

She was born April 8, 1940, in Utica, Ohio. Her father, Ralph Evans, her mother, Gladys Harter and adopted father, James Evans, are all deceased. On Aug. 4, 1956, in Tiffin, she married James Dean Morrow, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Rhonda) Musgrave of New Riegel and Belinda Morrow of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; a son, James D. Morrow Jr. of Tiffin; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Marlyn L. Stover of Euless, Texas, Daryl L. Stover of Tiffin, Larry Kaser of Waxahachie, Texas and Denny M. Wentling of Dillsburg, Pa.; and four sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Pauline) McEndree of Avon Park, Fla., Mrs. Charles (Carol) Sherman of Tiffin, Mrs. Lee (Karen) Huff of Coldwater, Mich. and Mrs. Patricia Wright of Columbus.

A grandchild and a brother, Donnie Stover, also are deceased.

Mrs. Morrow, a homemaker, was a member of Tiffin Freewill Baptist Church.

Pastor Watson Combs will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Monday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice.

Robert P. Way
Retired owner Tiffin Glass/Mirror

Robert P. Way, 79, died at 5:27 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at his residence at 4208 S. Eden TR 22.

He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Washington County, Lowell, Ohio, to Edward and Dora (Chandler) Way. His wife of 55 years, Mary Lee (Parmenter) Way, whom he married Dec. 23, 1944, at the U.S. Army Base in Pampa, Texas, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, R. Bruce Way of Toledo and Daniel Way of Tiffin; a daughter, Melinda Way of Cincinnati; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Joy) Roby of Lowell.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, James and Wesley Way.

Mr. Way, a 1939 graduate of Lowell High School, was the retired owner of Tiffin Glass and Mirror.

He was a member of the Tiffin Kiwanis Club and First Christian Church, where he served as an elder and was active in all church functions.

A World War II U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran, having served as a pilot instructor, he maintained a pilot's license after the war and continued to enjoy flying for many years.

He also served for many years on the Mohawk School Board.

The Rev. David C. Mills will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in First Christian Church.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Mildred A. Nusbaum
Retired store owner/operator

Mildred A. Nusbaum, 88, formerly of 7016 Marion-Melmore Road, Sycamore, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Bloomdale, to Albert and Perle (St. Clair) Horner. Her husband, Eldon C. Nusbaum, whom she married Feb. 3, 1933, in Tiffin, preceded her in death July 28, 1984.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Holman of rural Sycamore; and five grandchildren, Mrs. Richard ( Deb) Davis and Mrs. Connie Brause, both of Benton, Mrs. Allen (Rhonda) Brause, Mrs. Gene (Bev) Brause and Chuck Holman, all of rural Sycamore; and seven great-grandchildren.

Five brothers also are deceased.

Mrs. Nusbaum, who liked to sew, was the retired owner/operator of the Plankton Store for 23 years. She was a member of Planton United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Pat Fruth will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Interment will be in Benton cemetery, Crawford County.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or the Wyandot County Nursing Home.

Nola I. Rau
Former Old Fort resident

Nola I. Rau, 89, formerly of Old Fort, died at 7:05 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in the Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, where she had been a patient since June 14.

She was born May 2, 1911, in Tiffin, to William and Mary E. (Jump) Todd. On Aug. 21, 1930, in Tiffin, she married Jacob F. Rau, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Steven E. Rau of Old Fort; three grandchildren, Kim Bagley, David Rau and Steven Emmons; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Dorothy Rau; a brother, Floyd B. Todd; and a sister, Ruth A. Hieser.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rau had lived in the Old Fort area most of her life.

She was a member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church and the Loners Club.

The Rev. Jerry Wiles will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or the family.

Ada Harmount
Junior Home Kid

Word has been received of the death of Ada Harmount, 83, of Burbank, Calif, who died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.

She was a former Junior Home Kid.

Arrangements are pending.

David T. Hoernemann
Son of Tiffin resident

David T. Hoernemann, 54, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at his home in Westerville.

His mother, Joan T. Hoernemann, survives in Tiffin and his father, Paul H. Hoernemann is deceased.

Other survivors include: two sons, Lt. Eric Hoernemann of the U.S. Coast Guard, Cleveland and Scott D. Hoernemann of Westerville; a sister, Mrs. Theodore (Jane) Hieronymen of Kirtland, Ohio; two nephews, a niece and a grand-nephew.

An insurance agent for Groseclose Insurance, Westerville, Mr. Hoernemann was a 1968 graduate of Otterbein College, where he was a member of its "O'" Club Foundation and Varsity "O." He was the first All Ohio Baseball Player selected from the Otterbein College.

He also was a member of the Westerville Rotary Club.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St., Tiffin, with Dr. Roger Pearl officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville.

Local visitation will take place one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the "O" Club, Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio 43081 or the Westerville Rotary Club.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Jack M. Walsh
Johns-Manville Corp. retiree

Jack M. Walsh, 68, of 108 1/2 S. Vance St., Carey, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in the Eaglewood Care Center, Carey.

He was born Feb. 3, 1932, in Elwood, Ind., to the late Merle J. and Ruth E. (Brown) Walsh. On Dec. 3, 1965, in New Castle, Ind., he married Judith R. Marshall, who survives.

Survivors also include a daughter, Jackie Kieffer of Carey; three grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters, Nancy Noe of Danville, Ill., David and Stephen Walsh, both of Fortville, Ind. and Beverly Bassemer of Anderson, Ind.

Also preceding him in death were a brother, Richard Walsh; and a sister, Arlene Heady.

Mr. Walsh, a member of the Catholic Faith, retired from Johns-Manville Corp. in Alexandria, Ind, after 12 years of service.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, he was a life member of VFW Post 3759, Carey, where he had previously served as junior vice commander.

He also was a member of American Legion Post 344, Carey and the Forty & Eight Voiture Five Ten Club in Anderson.

The Rev. Paul Goetz will conduct the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey, where military graveside rites will be conducted by local veteran's organizations..

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Jack Walsh Memorial Fund, in care of the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-1169.

Joseph Allen Hoffman
Country Springs employee

Joseph Allen Hoffman, 21, of CR 181, Green Springs, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Bellevue.

He was born Jan. 10, 1979, in Fremont to Kenneth and Rita (Riehl) Hoffman. They survive in Green Springs.

Other survivors include: his grandparents, Charles and Suzie Riehl of Clyde and Herbert and Rita Hoffman of Burgoon; three brothers, Frank, James and Steven, all of Green Springs; and two sisters, Jeanette Hoffman and Bridget Hoffman, both of Green Springs.

He was: a 1997 Clyde High School graduate where he was active in FFA; employed by the Country Springs Co-op at Bellevue as a feed and grain handler; and a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Clyde.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Rev. Jeff Nordhaus and Monsignor Edward Dunn officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at the Mitchell Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde with a Christian Wake service at 9 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or American Cancer Society.

Venita C. Ellis
Upper Sandusky homemaker

Venita C. Ellis, 73, of 542 Baker Ct., Upper Sandusky, died at 5:37 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at the scene of an accident at SR 294 and Marion-Melmore Road in Crawford County.

Mrs. Ellis was born Feb. 14, 1927, in Heron, Ill. to John and Lois (Holt) McMahan. On July 7, 1945, she married Reuben J. Ellis in Cheboygan, Mich. He survives.

Also surviving are: a son James S. Ellis of Springboro; a daughter Karen J. Hoxworth of Wooster; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Charles McMahan of Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Juanita Kemmerley of Oceola.

She was a homemaker; retired from the General Electric Bucyrus plant in 1987 after 35 years; a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, and of the United Methodist Women; enjoyed ceramic crafts and helping friends in need; cooked and served church luncheons and worked rummage sales.

The service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Wayne B. Geissinger officiating. Private burial services will be at Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to Cancer Research, c/o Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Margaret McKay Bell
Findlay homemaker

Margaret "Peg" McKay Bell, 95, of 319 Greenlawn Ave., Findlay, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in the Winebrenner Care Center.

She was born July 4, 1905, in Findlay to Pearl R. and Florence (Manning) McKay. He married Olo Stanton Bell Sept. 2, 1925. He died Jan. 22, 1958.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kay) Chesebro of Findlay and Mrs. Marjorie Miller Bell; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: a son, Hugh Stanton Bell; a granddaughter; and a brother, Hugh Bruce McKay.

She was a 1923 Findlay High School graduate; attended Findlay College; was a homemaker, a 50-year director of M & B Asphalt Co. Inc. which was a family owned business, and worked at "Sign of the Bell;" was a 75-year member of First Presbyterian Church; Coffeebreakers Bowling League; long-time member of Twig 16 Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center Auxiliary; and a member of the Tuesday Ladies Bridge at the Findlay Country Club where she was consistently among the top scorers, having been high scorer several years in a row.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Rev. William W. Barnard, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to: First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., Findlay, OH 45840.
