Mildred Gibson
Retired produce grader

Mildred Gibson, 69, of 413 E. Adams St., Green Springs, and formerly of Republic, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at her home following a long illness.

She was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Whitesburg, Ky., to Ira and Mary (Webb) Tyree. Her mother survives in Tiffin. Her former husband, Clayton Gibson, is deceased

Survivors also include: three sons, Roger Gibson of Indiana, Paul Collins of Green Springs and David Tyree of Bellevue; six daughters, Ramonia Gibson of Louisville, Ky., Kathy Bezy of Indiana, Trecia Collins of Clyde, Carol Lynn Cornett of Kentucky, Regina Clevinger and Rhonda Gibson, both of Green Springs; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; five brothers, the Rev. Paul Tyree of Green Springs, James Tyree of Republic, John Tyree of Tiffin, Don Tyree of Clyde and Henry Tyree, also of Green Springs; and five sisters, Marie Morrow of Tennessee, Shirley Mitten of Florida, Sue Hill of Tiffin, Betty Lou Matthews of Clyde and Nina Tyree, also of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by her father; two sons, Bradley and James D. Gibson; a daughter, Debbie Gwen Tyree; a brother, William Tyree; and a sister, Stella Dunn.

Mrs. Gibson, who enjoyed gardening and flowers, was employed as a produce grader at the former Steinbauer Farms in Clyde, retiring in 1988.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Adams Township Freewill Baptist Church, rural Green Springs. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery, Adams Township.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the church, where the body will lie in state.

Memorials may be directed to the family. The Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde, is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Thomas V. Cullison
Journeyman boilermaker

The Rev. Thomas V. Cullison, 64, of 1203 Beier Drive Apt. A, formerly of Risingsun, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 16, 1935, in Hatton, Ohio, to Thomas S. Cullison and Emma J. (Edmunds) Cullison Griffin. His mother survives in Fostoria. He first married Patty S. Dickerson in 1952, and they were later divorced. She died Nov. 17, 1996. On June 24, 1992, in Fostoria, he married Shirley A. Kummerer, who preceded him in death Nov. 23, 1996.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Deborah) Dodge and Cynthia S. Pingle, both of Fostoria; a brother, Don Cullison of Bradner; a sister, Virginia Schreiner of New Riegel; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his father; a son, Mark Allan Cullison; and an infant sister.

The Rev. Cullison was employed as a journeyman boilermaker at Basic Refractories in Bettsville for more than 32 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked for the Risingsun Police Department.

He was a member of Moose Lodge 1567, Eagles Club 430, VFW Post 421 and AMVETS Post 69, all of Fostoria.

He also served as a former village councilman and volunteer firefighter for the village of Risingsun.

The Rev. Donald R. Woodwin will be the officiant at the 2 p.m. Monday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Bradner cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Devere 'Shorty' Helms
Union Oil distributor

Devere "Shorty" Helms, 82, of 461 W. Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born April 12, 1918, in Forest, to Rollie and Lola (Parrish) Helms. His wife, June C. (Harding) Helms, whom he married Jan. 20, 1940, in Decatur, Ind., survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son, Richard T. Helms of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Virginia J.) Potteiger of Fostoria; two brothers, Delos Helms of Crestview, Fla. and Paul Helms of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.

Five brothers, Eugene, Rollie Jr., Dale, Rex and Forrest Helms, also are deceased.

Mr. Helms, a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, was employed as a distributor for Union Oil Co. in Fostoria and the sorrounding area for 30 years, retiring in 1974.

He also worked for Buckeye Auto Parts in Fostoria for 10 years, following his retirement.

The Rev. Russell F. Gumm will conduct the 10:30 a.m Monday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

James F. Whealan
Retired church custodian

James F. Whealan, 91, formerly of Jefferson Street, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in the Ruffing Care Center of Tiffin.

He was born Dec. 30, 1908, in Fostoria, to Frank M. and Ella (Hollinger) Whealan. His first wife, Carrie (Haines) Whealan, is deceased. On May 27, 1972, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Irene Steinhauser, who also preceded him in death Nov. 2, 1987.

Survivors include five step-children and step-grandchildren.

A brother, Jack Whealan, also is deceased.

Mr. Whealan, a custodian for Trinity United Church of Christ, also was employed as a cab driver.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

At Mr. Whealan's request his body has been donated to the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ethel K. Heins
Area residents' mother

Ethel K. Heins, 92, of Quail Drive, Fremont, died early Saturday morning, Oct. 21, 2000, at her daughter's home in Bettsville.

She was born Sept. 26, 1908, in Woodville Township, to John Alfred and Mary Ellen (Gaster) Hovis. Her husband, Martin H. Heins, whom she married June 30, 1928, died Oct. 23, 1970.

Surviving are: two daughters, Lorna M. Garn of Marblehead and Ronda R. Krotzer of Bettsville; two sons, James M. Heins of Fremont and John A. Heins of Tiffin; a brother, John Hovis of Elmore; two sisters, Bertha Henry of Elmore and Joyce Huffman of Fostoria; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine Saam Rodabaugh; two sisters, Edith Seeger and Doris Wheatley; and two brothers, Ward and Wayne Hovis.

Mrs. Heins, a 1926 graduate of Woodville High School, was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild.

She also was a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, Wolf Creek Circle, State Farm Women's Club and the County Farm Women's Club, where she had served as past president.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary, Fremont. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, Ohio.

Edward Clifton Symons
B&J Photo retiree

Edward Clifton Symons, 64, of 533 Clinton Court, Findlay, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born Jan. 5, 1936, in St. Clair Shores, Mich., to the late Donald and Margaret (Kuhle) Symons and raised by his step-mother, Eleanor Symons, who also is deceased. On March 7, 1987, in Findlay, he married Dolores "Dee" Hogrefe Allen, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Edward C. Symons Jr. of Tennessee; a daughter, Cheri Symons of Kentucky; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Donald Symons of Sterling Heights, Mich., Kenneth Symons of Vermilion and Larry Symons of Cleveland.

Mr. Symons worked at B&J Photo in Findlay for 24 years, retiring in 1998. He also sold audio-visual and video equipment.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Lions Club, both of Findlay. He had served as "master of ceremonies" at many Lions Club Auctions in the past and was the recipient of the Presidents Award from the Lions Club in 1978.

A former member of the Elks Club, he was associated with Trinity Lutheran Church, Findlay.

The Rev. Thomas Schutt will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Tuesday service in Trinity Lutheran Church, 935 W. Bigelow, Findlay. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Routson Funeral Chapel, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club, Creighton Dialysis Center, Findlay, or Greater NW Ohio Diabetes Association Inc., 200 W. Pearl St., Findlay.

Leona G. Schiefer
Former Republic resident

Leona G. Schiefer, 91, of the Kiwanis Manor, 7 E. Market St., and former Republic resident, died Friday evening, Oct. 20, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born April 15, 1909, in Republic, to Jesse E. and Hattie (Smith) Rickenbaugh. On Oct. 12, 1931, she married Delbert E. Enders, who died May 15, 1950. She later married Russell Schiefer on Jan. 4, 1952. He died Dec. 18, 1979.

Surviving are: two sons, Edwin E. Enders of Attica and Richard R. Enders of Bucyrus; six grandchildren ;and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a brother, Russell Rickenbaugh; two sisters, Louise Anway and Margaret Conger; a grandson and an infant great-grandchild.

Mrs. Schiefer, a 1927 graduate of Republic High School, attended Tiffin Business University for one year. She had worked for Kanan's Bakery, Tiffin Jewelry Store, the Seneca County Auditor's Office in 1929, taught typing classes in 1938 and performed clerical work, typed tests for teachers and also worked as a bank teller at the Republic Bank.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bucyrus, and the Bloomville Navy Mothers.

The Rev. Malcolm Brook will conduct the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be in Brokensword cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Seneca East Public Library Building Fund.

Rita Marie Shock
Old Fort School bus driver

Rita Marie Shock, 55, of 1701 E. CR 51, Old Fort, died at 5:53 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in the Emergency Room of Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

She was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Tiffin, to Donald and Madeline (Berlin) Dull. Her father survives in Tiffin. In 1966, she married Robert Shock and they later divorced. He survives in Tiffin.

Survivors also include: two sons, Joe Shock of Old Fort and Tim Shock of Fort Seneca; a daughter, Gloria Jean Shock of Old Fort; four brothers, Robert Dull of Fort Seneca, Ronald and Donald Jr. Dull, both of Republic, and John W. Dull of Tiffin; eight sisters, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Bour, Rose Sendelbach, Phyllis Capucini, Patricia Dull, Faye Iannantuono and Betsy Combs, all of Tiffin; Mrs. Richard (Sandy) Sendelbach of Bascom and Karen West of Fostoria; and three grandchildren. Her mother and a brother, Darryl Dull, also are deceased.

Mrs. Shock, a 1963 graduate of Columbian High School, was employed as a bus driver for Old Fort Schools.

She was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose, Green Springs American Legion Auxiliary and the Old Fort Flames, of which she was a lifetime member.

The Rev. Jerry Wiles will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Rita Shock Memorial Fund, in care of the family or the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, OH 44883.

Kenneth J. McFall
Retired Chrysler electrician

Kenneth J. McFall, 81, 55 Cherry St., died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in the University Hospital, Aintree, Liverpool, England, where he had been a patient since Oct. 2.

He was born Feb. 18, 1919, in the United Kingdom, to Herbert J. and Marion B. (Lapthorn) McFall. His wife, Margaret (Berkley) McFall, whom he married June 22, 1946, in Aintree, survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Gail) Nitterhouse of Romeo, Mich., and Mrs. Paul (Susan) Kummerer Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

A sister, Margaret E. McFall, also is deceased.

Mr. McFall, a member of the First Lutheran Church, retired as an electrician from the former Chrysler Foundry in Fostoria.

A resident of Tiffin for the past 51 years, he came here from Ormskirk, Lancashire, United Kingdom.

He also was a member of Masonic Lodge 77, Seneca Chapter 42, Scottish Rite Club; Shrine Club, Tiffin; Scottish Rite, Toledo; Zenobia Temple, Toledo, American Legion Post 169, AMVETS 48, Tiffin; Royal British Legion Crieff, Scotland; and a life member of the Fostoria Elks Lodge.

A veteran of the British Army, having served worldwide during World War II, he also served as civil defense director in Seneca County 1950-65 and as past governor of Moose Lodge 846, Tiffin.

Services took place earlier in Liverpool, England, conducted by the Rev. Michael Smout.

Private graveside services are at 10 a.m. today in Fairmont cemetery, with the Rev. Margaret M. Marks officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.

Amanda Rose Feaster
Niece of Republic resident

Amanda Rose Feaster, 9, of Toledo, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dennis Court in Toledo.

She was born June 1, 1991, in Toledo, to Mark and Kathleen (King) Feaster, who survive in Toledo.

Other survivors include four siblings, Chris, Daniel, Timmy and Jeremy Feaster, all at home; grandparents, Guy and Joyce Lowe and Bob and Rosa King, all of Toledo; and aunts and uncles.

Her aunt, Mrs. Bob (Rosie) Shull, lives in Republic.

Amanda attended the third grade at Stewart Elementary School.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Family Baptist Church, 1002 W. Bancroft, Toledo, with Pastor Charles McBee officiating. Entombment will be in Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Family Baptist Church.

The Strabler Funeral Home, Toledo, is in charge of arrangements.
