Andrew C. Lytle 02/10/2003

Andrew C. Lytle, age 59, of County Road 25, Cardington died early Monday evening, February 10, 2003, at his residence. He was born on May 3, 1943, in Richwood, OH to the late Oscar Eugene and Vera May (Lloyd) Lytle.

Andrew had worked for over 29 years at HPM in Mt. Gilead as a janitor. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and of the Moose Lodge 2478 of Morrow County.

He is survived by three sisters, Ruth Roach of Mt. Gilead, Shirley Roach of Galion and Linda Day of Cleveland, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Andrew was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington on Thursday, February 13,2003, from 5-7PM where funeral services will be held at 7PM with Pastor Scott Pickle officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, PO BOX 86, Mount Gilead, OH 43338, or Harmony Baptist Church, 5142 County Road 25, Cardington, OH 43315.

Thomas Brady Peery 02/06/2003

Thomas Brady Peery, 65, of Twp. Rd. 115 in Mt. Gilead died early Thursday, February 6 in the Morrow County ER. He was born January 26, 1938 to the late T. Hobart and Easter (Daniels) Peery.

Thomas was a 1955 graduate of Ashland H.S. in Kentucky. After high school he persued a career in Chemical Engineering and was employed by Ashland Chemical for 34 yrs.

On February 1, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada he married Jerrilyn Lee (Mills) and she survives him.

Other survivors include sons and their wives, T. Brady Jr. and Barbara Grace Peery of Cardington, Chris and Carla Peery of Bexley, Aaron and Kelly Peery of Cincinnati; two daughters Amy and Matthew Schultz of Cardington and Shelley Caldwell of Worthington; 3 sisters, Rebecca Jo Prichard of Hermosa Beach CA., Betty Harn of Portland, OR. and Sylvia Walters of Ashland, KY; 14 grandchildren; 3 sister-in-laws; 2 brother-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Thomas was preceded in death by 1 sister Peggy Peery.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home on Sunday, February 9 from 4-7PM where the services will be held on Monday at 1:30 PM. Pastor John  Jackson will officiate with the burial in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Erna L. Butler 02/05/2003

Erna L. Butler, age 73, formerly of Cardington and a Holly Hill, FL. resident for 5 years died Wednesday February 5, 2003 in Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. She was born June 23, 1929 in Frostburg, MD. to the late Robert and Anna (Durr) McKenzie.

Erna was a graduate of the Mount Vernon Academy and was a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. She and her husband Lawrence, had owned and operated the Colonial Manor in Fulton and Country Estate Nursing Center in Marion.

On Sept. 16, 1951 in Mt. Vernon, Erna married Lawrence E. Butler and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1992.

Survivors include sons, Lawrence ėLarryî and Carolyn Butler of Port Orange, FL., John and Sandy Butler of Woodbury, N.J. and Jeffrey and Lisa Butler of St. Cloud, FL.; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Wood of Bull Shoals, AR.; and brother, Robert McKenzie of Mt. Vernon,Oh.

In addition to her parents and husband, a brother, Alvin McKenzie, preceded Erna in death.

Friends may call at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington of Sunday from 2:00-5:00 PM where the funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM. Pastor Franke Zollman of Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church will officiate. The burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery.

Tracy J. Short 02/04/2003

Tracy J. Short age 85, of Railroad Street, Cardington died February 4, 2003, at his residence. He was born February 24, 1917 in Nicut, WV to the late John William and Eva Ethel (Lane) Short.

Tracy had worked as an auto mechanic.

On April 27, 1940 in Mt. Gilead he married the former Mildred J. (Franks) and she survives in Cardington.

Additional survivors include his children, Gordon Willard and Beverly Short of Marion, Michael Paul and Judith Short of Bucyrus, Robert Short of TX, Judy and Bill Greenwalt of Galion, and Christy Short of Cardington; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Tracy was preceded in death by children George Wesley Short and Tracy J. Short, Jr. and by brothers Jesse W. and Gordon Short.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington Thursday, February 6, 2003 one hour prior to the funeral service which will held at 3PM. Pastor Jay Weaver will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Donald E. Bowers 02/03/2003

Donald E. Bowers, age 62, of County Road 155, Cardington died early Monday, February 3, 2003, at his residence. He was born July 14, 1940, in Fulton, OH to Donald Eugene and Mildred Lucille (Bowers) Bowers. His father is deceased and his mother survives in Cardington along with his step-father, Raymond Stone.

Donald graduated from Chesterville in 1959. He was a carpenter and had worked at HPM in Mt. Gilead and ITL in Marion as a mechanical Technician and also worked at Mathewís Citgo. He was an Auxiliary Police, a Morrow County EMS, and a member of the Sons of American Legion Post # 97. Donald enjoyed line dancing, camping and woodworking.

At Harmony Baptist Church on August 11, 1961 he married the former Judith Ann Carpenter and she survives in Cardington.

Donald is also survived by other beloved family members: daughter, Dianna (Jay) Haycook; son, Dennis (Norah) Bowers all of Cardington, daughter Julia Campbell of Mansfield; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Nathaniel, Shannon Mary, Donald James and Christopher Bowers and Rivers Pennington; step-grandchildren, Haley and Heather Haycook; siblings and their spouses, Norma and Wilbert Oler of Columbus, Anna and Ben Mahan, Alfred and Debbie Jordan, Emma and Butch Chipps all of Chesterville, Bruce and Judy Jordan of Cardington, Robin and Dave Lester of Iberia, Vern and Tony Jordan of Marengo and Vicki and Jeff Sargent of Fredericktown; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Carpenter; sister-in-law, Beverly Carpenter; many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

Donald will be sadly missed by all for his sense of humor, love of life and family, and his kind and gentle heart.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington Wednesday, February 5, 2003 from 5 to 8PM where the funeral services will be held Thursday, February 6, 2003, at 11AM with Pastor Scott Pickle officiating. William A. "Bill" Wood 02/01/2003

William A. "Bill" Wood, age 76, of US Rt. 42, Mt. Gilead died Saturday evening February 1, 2003 in Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born in Mt. Gilead on December 16, 1926 to the late Harry M. and Sara A. (Pumphrey) Wood.

Bill was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and a 1950 graduate of Ohio State University where he obtained a degree in Engineering and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary. He served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at Westinghouse in Mansfield for 40 years as plant Engineer. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had been the Treasurer for the past 13 years. In addition he also served as a church deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He was also a member of the Mt. Gilead Kiwanas, Alpha Twig of the Morrow County Hospital, Jenkins-Vaughn American Legion Post #97, Westinghouse Retirees and had been Chairman of the North Central Ohio IEEE. Bill was a past Commander and instructor for the Marion Power Squadron as well as a member of the American Red Cross Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of the Disaster Committee. He had served as a Republican Central Committeeman for several years.

On February 18, 1951, in West Alexandria, Bill married Marjorie E. Ulrich and she survives in him in Mt. Gilead. Other survivors include 1 son and his wife Wm. Bradley "Brad" and Rita Wood, of Mt. Gilead; 2 daughters, Beverly and Tom Schroeder of Miami, Florida and Sara Wood of Edison; 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Alesha Wood, Philip Wood, Kelli Wood, Abi and Scott McCracken, Amy, Andrew, Kyle, Thomas III and Anna Schroeder; 2 sisters Martha B. Daniel and Sarah E. Parsons both of Corpus Christi, TX and 1 brother Warren J. Wood of Millersburg.

Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead. Dr. Dennis Schultz will officiate with the burial in Rivercliff Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church 51 W. High Street, Mt. Gilead Oh. 43338. Condolences may be sent to the family at gompffh.com.
