Olive N. Day
CENTRAL SQUARE, N.Y. - Olive N. Day, 91, of Central Square, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004.
Born in Millard, Mo., she grew up in Ohio and Michigan and traveled in Christian Evangelistic Work with her husband, Pastor Clair Day who pastored churches in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York.
She sang with the family in church, played accordion and Hawaiian Guitar, taught Sunday School, provided spiritual counseling, conducted Bible Schools and more.
When she lived in Houghton, she worked over 20 years at Houghton College as college secretary. Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Pastor Clair Day; a daughter, Constance Day of Indian Lake; a son, David of Midwest, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two daughters, Barbara Day in 1993 and Carol Hoyer in 1997. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Watson Funeral Home, Inc., 631 S. Main St., Central Square.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Central Square Wesleyan Church, Mallory, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Central Square.
Audrey E. Steinke
(1911 - 2004)
MONTPELIER - Audrey E. Steinke, 92, of Montpelier, died Thursday morning, June 24, 2004, at Hillside Heritage at Hillside Country Living near Bryan, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 7, 1911, near Pioneer, to Ada (Cummins) and Luther Thompson, she married William J. Steinke on March 19, 1931, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1988.
A lifelong area resident, she was a 1929 graduate of Kunkle High School. She retired in 1973 as co-owner with her husband, William J. Steinke, of W.J. Steinke Insurance Agency in Montpelier. The first woman elected to the Williams County Fair Board, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Montpelier, where she had taught Sunday School for many years, had served in many offices in the church, and was a past president of the United Methodist Women of the church.
She was also a member of the former Montpelier Garden Club, the Williams County Garden Club, the Crescent Study Club and the Montpelier Progressive Homemakers.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lauren Russell Thompson, Virgil Vernel Thompson and Estel N. Thompson; a sister, Helen Jane Esterline; and a niece, Norma Jean Shaffer.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-8 p.m. in Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Montpelier, with the Rev. Robert Damschroder to officiate. Burial will be in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
Mary Jane Salisbury
(1917 - 2004)
ANTWERP - Mary Jane Salisbury, 87, of Antwerp, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne.
Born May 5, 1917, at Defiance County, to Fannie (Dickman) and Henry Frost, she married Seth S. Salisbury on July 26, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1973.
A member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Paulding, she was a cook for Paulding County Hospital, retiring in 1982.
She is survived by a son, Walter Salisbury of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Marilyn Grimm of Pleasant Lake, Ind.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren; many stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Frost of Continental.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; four brothers, Raymond, Herbert, Lester and Henry; a son, Harold Salisbury; a daughter-in-law, Glendora Salisbury; and a stepgrandson, Harold.
Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Emanuel Baptist Church, 1275 Emerald Road, Paulding.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the church. Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Lost Creek Cemetery, Hicksville. Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Kenneth B. Gale
(1959 - 2004)
TOLEDO - Kenneth B. Gale, 44, formerly of Toledo, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born June 27, 1959, at Toledo, to Marian and Kenneth Gale, he married his wife, Rita, on June 4, 1994, and she survives.
He was a logistics supervisor for Duramax Diesel for the last five years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard of Holland; stepchildren, Christopher Steel of Bryan and Brandy Steel of Dayton; his parents; and siblings, Mrs. Skip (Cindy) Forbes, Mark Anthony (and wife, Maureen) Gale and Julie Gale; a stepbrother, Michael (Louise) Fraszewski, all of Toledo; nine nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles.
Preceding him in death was his brother, Thomas Gale in 1989.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-9 p.m. in the H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd. (at Alexis), Toledo.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.

Howard Mitchell
Howard Mitchell, 83, of Bryan, died Friday morning, July 23, 2004, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio-Bryan.
Arrangements are pending at the Burr Funeral Home and Crematory-Bryan.
Robert J. Blough
(1922 - 2004)
BLUFFTON - Robert J. Blough, 82, of Bluffton, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at the Mennonite Memorial Hospital, Bluffton.
Born April 21, 1922, at Middlebury, Ind., to Ruth (Horner) and Samuel J. Blough, he married Celia Amstutz on June 9, 1946, in the Salem Mennonite Church in Kidron, and she survives.
He began his undergraduate education at Bluffton College and was later interrupted to serve his country during World War II in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Indochina (China). He graduated from Bluffton College in 1947 and later graduated in 1952 from Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa.
DeshlerÕs family doctor from 1953-2000, he was also Henry County's coroner from 1992-2000, later retiring in 2000. While at Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green, he was known to deliver some babies via hypnosis before Lamaze was practiced.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Deshler where he had been church elder and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of the First Mennonite Church of Bluffton and of BASHA (China/Bermuda/India Veterans) in Toledo.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Laurie) Miller of Goshen, Ind.; two sons, Neal (Janie) Blough of the country of France and Keith (Cyndy) Blough of Hilliard; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Thomas Michael and Leslie James Blough; and brothers, Ernest and Kenneth Blough.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-6 p.m. in the First Mennonite Church of Bluffton and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Hanneman Funeral Home in Deshler.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Church Cemetery, Kidron.

Gladys B. Burkhart
(1919 - 2004)
DEFIANCE - Gladys B. Burkhart, 84, of Defiance, died Thursday morning, July 22, 2004, at her residence.
Born Sept. 21, 1919, at Brown Township, Paulding County, to Goldie (Blaine) and William Thrasher, she married Albert F. Burkhart in 1938 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1992. A homemaker, she was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, and a life member of the Defiance VFW Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Catherine) Clemens of Defiance and Mrs. Dean (Margaret) Wineland of Ney; a son, Floyd Burkhart of Oakwood; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bessie Parrish of Edon, Faye Manon of Defiance and Mary Carroll of Defiance.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Dennis, Ray and Rex Thrasher; and three sisters, Gertrude Thrasher, Opal Pessefall and Evelyn Harter. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home with a Rosary Service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, with Father Dennis Walsh to officiate. Mausoleum encryptment will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. John Catholic Church.
