Rufina "Ruth" Malagon
Fostoria Homemaker

Rufina "Ruth" Malagon, 93, of 211 E. Culbertson St., Fostoria, died at 12:57 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at her home. She was born July 10, 1907 to Inez and Nicholasa (Rodriguez) Herrera. On Dec. 30, 1933 she married Savas Malagon, he died Feb. 5, 1996.

Surviving include: three sons, Esaias, Frank and Nicholas Malagon, all of Fostoria; four daughters, Juanita Mora-Martinez of Fostoria, Dorothy Guerra-Clark of Yuma, AZ., Anita Salazar-Malagon of Yuma, AZ, and Alberta Johnson-Harris of Fostoria; 32 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: a daughter, Angilita Malagon; three grand and 4 great grandchildren; four sisters, Accencion Campos, Macedonia Vasquez, Thomasa Tello, and Ambrosia Hurtado; and a brother Gonzalo Herrera.

Mrs. Malagon was a homemaker and member of the St. Wendelin Catholic Church and enjoyed needlework.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Wendelin Church, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home, and at the church 1 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice of Findlay.

Cooper West
Retired Hayes Albion employee

Cooper West, 81, of McDougal St., Fostoria, died at 1:32 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at Providence Hospital in Sandusky. He was born to Warner and Edith (Cooper) West. On Jan. 13, 1961 he married Harriet G. Anderson, she preceded him in death.

Survivors include: four sons, David West of Taunton, Mass, Mark West of Tiffin, Wayne West of Blaine, and Ronald West; two daughters, Donna West of Newsymera, Fl., and Michelle West of Wintersville.

Mr. West was a 1938 graduate of Parker High School in Dayton. A U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WW II and the Korean War, he retired in 1972 from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer where he worked as an electronics Technician with 30 years of service. He retired in 1982 as General Foreman at Hayes Albion in Tiffin. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Fostoria. Memberships included: Life member and Past Commander of VFW Post 421; Past Commander American Legion Post 73; Life member of Disabled American Veteran; Am VETS Post 69 and the Eagles Club, all of Fostoria, and the Tiffin Elk's Lodge.

There are no funeral services or visitation plans. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mikaela LouAnn Naus
Child

Mikaela LouAnn Naus, seven months old, of Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000 at Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born March 28, 2000 in Fostoria to Steven Naus and Dawn Feasel.

Survivors include: a sister, Alyssa Naus of home; Maternal grandparents, John and Diane Thom of Tiffin and Don and Cathy Feasel of Tiffin; Paternal grandparents, Cyndi Naus of Fostoria and Norman and Kris Naus of Findlay; Maternal great grandparents, Lois Burgh of Tiffin, and Charles and Polly Feasel of Tiffin; Paternal great grandparents, Icil Bargaheiser of Findlay, and Raymond and Bea Stimmel of McComb, and Maurice and Donna Naus of Fostoria.

The funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2000 at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service (12:30 p.m.) at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Naus Family in care of the funeral home.

William P. Eibner
President of Fostoria Industries, Inc.

William P. Eibner, 55, of 2405 Hawthorne Dr., Fostoria, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at his home. He was born Aug. 20, 1945 to William P. and Mary V. (Cuciak) Eibner, both deceased. On Feb. 7, 1970 he married Karen L. Sargent, and she survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Jason S. Eibner of Colo., Chad S. Eibner, and Erik W. Eibner, both of Columbus, and Kevin K. Eibner of Fostoria; two sisters, Delores West of Pittsburgh, PA., and Gayle Swiercinski of Cleveland.

Mr. Eibner was president of Fostoria Industries, Inc. from 1997 to 2000. Nationally, he was the past president of the Infrared Equipment Association, the past Chairman of The Electrification Council, and currently served as Vice-president of the Industrial Heating Equipment Association. His memberships included: St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where he was past Chairman of the St. Wendelin School Advisory Council, booth chairman St. Wendelin Festival, and a Eucharistic Minister. He was past Chairman of the Board of our local Camp Fire, past Chairman of the Board of the Seneca Area Career System, served on the Board of Directors for the Fostoria Chamber of Commerce, and also the Board of Directors of the Fostoria Economic Development Corporation, the Board of Trustees of the Fostoria Community Hospital, the Board of Directors of the Fostoria Junior Achievement, the Advisory Board of Keystone Academy, the Board of Directors of SACS, and past Chairman of the United Way campaign, Fostoria Rotary Club, Fostoria University Club, and Fostoria Country Club.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, a Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church.

Memorials may be made to: United Way of Fostoria; St. Wendelin Schools Educational Foundation; and/or Fostoria Community Hospital Fund.

Doris M. Henderson
St. Francis Home resident

Doris M. Henderson, 73, of St. Francis Home and formerly of 248 S. Washington St., died at 8:04 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at St. Francis Home.

She was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Bellevue to Clifford H. and Gertrude M. (Moore) Swedersky.

Survivors include: a son, Richard Henderson of Findlay; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Miss Margaret Swedersky, Mrs. H.W. (Arlene) Hayward and Mrs. John W. (Pauline) L. Wrench, all of Bellevue.

She was a graduate of Bellevue High School, a factory and restaurant worker.

The Rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Home Chapel followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Bellevue.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral home and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Home Chapel.

Ernestine M. Butler
Rural Kansas homemaker

Ernestine M. Butler, 86, of 9136 W. Twp. Rd. 36, Kansas, died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

Mrs. Butler was born July 17, 1914, in Avon to Anthony and Christine (Krebs) Brant. She married Robert L. Butler on Feb. 10, 1934, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and he died May 31, 1984.

Survivors include: a son, Irvin R. of Amherst; a daughter, Jeannette Miller of Joliet, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Anthony "Bud" Brant of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and a sister, Evelyn Stuber of Arcadia.

Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Margaret "Peg" Reid and a grandson, Jamie Butler.

She graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1930; was a homemaker; a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Rosary-Altar Society, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, former member of Amsden Lions Club; and a 4-H advisor.

A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Wendelin Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 with burial in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a CL of C Memorial Service will be at 6:45 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to either the Fostoria Sharing Kitchen or the St. Wendelin Schools Educational Foundation.

Joseph S. Boes
Tiffin resident's brother

Joseph S. Boes, 55, of Grove City, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

He married Margaret Boes and she survives along with: his mother, Leona Boes; a son, Benjamin; a daughter, Beth Boes; six brothers, Bernard, Francis, Eugene and Daniel of Kirby, Charles Jr. and Richard of Upper Sandusky; four sisters, Rita Wagner of Tiffin, Sr. Agnes Boes of Dayton, Mary Dick of Kenton, and Sr. Jane Boes of Springfield.

Preceding him in death were: his father, Charles Boes Sr.; a son, Rex Allen; and a brother, Paul.

Mr. Boes was a 1963 graduate of Riverdale High School and a 1967 graduate of University of Dayton with a degree in civil engineering; served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict; retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation after 30 years; and past president of Lima Jaycees.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Grove City, with the Fr. Joseph Santon and the Fr. Stephen Hawkins officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Schoedinger-Norris Chapel, Grove City, where a prayer service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America Central Ohio Chapter or to the Right to Life Society.

Howard Franklin Laney
Wood County farmer

Howard Franklin Laney, 84, of the Wood County Nursing Home, Bowling Green, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in the Nursing Home.

Mr. Laney was born May 10, 1916, in Deshler to Frank and Isabelle (Heckman) Laney. He married Wilma Washington on June 3, 1936, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Howard L. of Canby, Ore.; a daughter, Marilyn Bomer of Rudolph; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a brother, Edsel Laney; a half-brother, Bert Jewel; two sisters, Genelle Mollenkopf and Gazel Schmaltz; and two half-sisters, Ellen Roberts and Pearl Lerche.

He served as a former A.S.C. Committee member; served on Henry County Twp. School Board; a member of Henry County Zoning Board; and attended Mt. Hekmon Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Smith-Crates Funeral Home in North Baltimore with the Rev. Ralph Clink officiating and burial in the Wingston cemetery, Liberty Twp.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Respite Care Society, P.O. Box 113, Findlay, OH 45839-0113.

Lloyd E. 'Rusty' Ward
Wharton retired farmer

Lloyd E. "Rusty" Ward, 96, of 7934 CH 91, Wharton, died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his residence.

He was born in rural Wharton May 11, 1904, to Roscoe P. and Clara (Plott) Ward. He married Lucille N. Lahr Nov. 30, 1927, in Wharton and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, John H. of Elberta, Ala., and Joe K. of Westlake; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Johnny Lazor, and a sister, May Shaffer.

Graduating in 1925 from the Public High School of Wharton, he was a life-long Richland Township farmer retiring in 1970; a life member of Wharton First Church of God; a charter member of Wharton Lions Club; served on the Wharton Board of Education; and was a member of the Wyandot County Farm Bureau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Craig Haines and the Rev. Melvin Summy officiating. Burial will be in Wharton Richland Union cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to either the Johnny Lazor Memorial Park Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Edith M. Allen
Retired elementary teacher

Edith M. Allen, 78, of 4363 E. CR 16, died at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at her home.

She was born March 6, 1922, in New Castle, Pa., to Roy D. and Helen Mae (Lovelle) Goodhart. On June 29, 1940, she married Carl Matthew Allen Jr. in Lexington, Va., and he died Jan. 4, 1976.

Survivors include: three daughters, Judith A. Vincent of Toledo, Bonita L. Sankey of Tiffin and Patricia Ridenour of Macon, Ga.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She graduated in 1939 from New Castle High School and in 1964 she graduated from Heidelberg College. She was an elementary teacher and retired in 1985 from Clyde-Green Springs School. She was a member of the Methodist faith.

There will be private family services at a later date.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Thomas F. Hotelling
Carey village worker

Thomas F. Hotelling, 60, of 578 West St., Carey, died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 7, 1940, in Upper Sandusky to Lawrence T. and Pauline V. (Park) Hotelling. He married Ruth A. Logsdon on Aug. 24, 1968, in Carey at Our Lady of Consolation and she survives.

Other survivors include: his mother of Upper Sandusky; a son, Aaron T. of Carey; a foster son, Brandon Hetsler at home; a daughter, Dana J. Hotelling of Carey; four grandchildren; two brothers, Delno F. of Toledo and Basil R. of Upper Sandusky; and three sisters, Frieda J. Wells of Bloomingdale, Sharon K. Pletcher of Caledonia and Carol S. Stewart of Forest.

His father preceded him in death.

He was of the Protestant faith; worked in the Department of Public Works for the Village of Carey for 25 years; and was a former member of Carey Conservation Club, American Legion Post 344 and VFW Post 3759, all of Carey, and AMVETS Post 777 in Upper Sandusky.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. James Sharrett officiating. Interment is in the Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Northwest Ohio Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Norma J. Schwab
Retired Pines employee

Norma J. Schwab, 74, 62 Hancock St., died at 4:10 pm. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Tiffin, to Herman and Lucille (Huth) Ball. In 1947, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, she married John W. Tewalt, who died in 1952. She later married Edward Schwab, who also is deceased.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Karen) Kennedy of Tiffin, Mrs. Rodger (Judy) Dykes of Florence, S.C. and Mrs. Thomas (Jean) Overmier, also of Tiffin; a brother, Richard Ball of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Rochester of Tiffin; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a step-great-grandchild.

A sister, Mary Alice Hill; and a great-grandchild, are deceased.

Mrs. Schwab, a graduate of Calvert High School, retired from the Tiffin Developmental Center,where she was employed as a food server at the Pines.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Rev. James K. Say will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral home, where a Christian Wake service will take place at 3:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
