Kathryn Frias
Fostoria resident

Kathryn "Chiania" (Catrone) Frias, 85, of 723 Eastern Ave., Fostoria, died in her residence at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000. She was born June 19, 1915 to Frank and Rose (Serpa) Catrone. On May 31, 1934 she married Leonard Frias, Sr., he preceded her in death on April 20, 1966.

Surviving include: two sons, Joseph A. Frias of Fostoria, and Leonard Frias, Jr. of Fostoria; four daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Guillen, Mrs. Virginia Davila, Mrs. Leona Reinhart, and Victoria M. Frias, all of Fostoria; five brothers, Tony, Don, John, and Mike Catrone, all of Orville, Oh., and Nick Catrone of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Jenny Rey of Sandusky, and Mrs. Mary Sekulich of Orville; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

She as preceded in death by: a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Cupp and a brother, Joe Catrone.

Mrs. Frias was an assembler at Bendix (now Honeywell) for 37 years retiring in 1985, and was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria.

The Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., tonight, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home of Fostoria. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., Saturday in the Church.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care and/or St. Wendelin Schools and/or Dialysis Unit at Fostoria Community Hospital.

Herbert G. Burwell
Former Attica resident

Herbert G. Burwell, 68, of 136 Riverside Drive, Tiffin, formerly of Attica, died Thursday morning, Nov. 16, 2000 at the Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville after an extended illness. He was born July 7, 1932 in Attica to Lawrence and Ireta (Bollinger) Burwell, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 9, 1951 he married Patricia Logan in Tiffin, they are divorced.

Surviving include: three sons, Thomas L. Burwell of Tiffin, Mark H. Burwell of Port Clinton, and Michael A. Burwell of Dublin; a daughter, Dr. Ann Roberts of Holland, Oh.; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Burwell had been a foreman at Pioneer Rubber Company in Attica for several years, a bus driver for the Seneca East Schools and was an independent self-employed contractor before retiring in 1996. A member of the Attica First Baptist Church; Attica Lodge 367 F&AM; and the Haines City, Florida, Moose Lodge 2083.

The Rev. Malcolm Brook will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral services at the Linsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 South SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be at Venice cemetery, Attica.

Visitation hours are from 6-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the caring angels of Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.

Irene L. Baker
Upper Sandusky resident

Irene L. Baker, 77, of 102 River Rd., Upper Sandusky, died in her residence Monday afternoon, Nov. 13, 2000. She was born Sept. 7, 1923 to Thomas L. and Myrtle (Helck) Plott. On May 6, 1939 she married William S. Baker, he died May 29, 1982.

Surviving include: three sons, William Baker, Jr. of Russell's Point, Curtis L. Baker of Mansfield, and Calvin E. Baker of Toledo; three sisters, Barbara Pieracini, and Mary Billock, both of Carey, and Dorothy Maddox of Chesapeake; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: seven brothers, Delmar, Dale, Raymond, Stanley, Roy, Calvin and an infant Plott; and two sisters, Doris and Evelyn.

Mrs. Baker retired from Westinghouse Electric of Upper Sandusky in 1983 after 28 years of employment. A member of the Lutheran Faith, Women of the Moose, AmVets Auxiliary and VFW Ladies, all of Upper Sandusky. She enjoyed TV, reading, and summers at Lake Erie, boating and fishing.

The Rev. Jerry Elsholz will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be at Old Mission cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 6-8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County.

Mildred McDonald
Former Old Fort resident

Mildred McDonald, 104, of Bethesda Care Center, formerly of Old Fort, died at 2:47 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000. She was born on Aug. 22, 1896 to Leonard and Archibalaleny (Campbell) Mills. On Oct. 9, 1920 she married Virgil McDonald, he died exactly 33 years ago on the same date in 1967.

Surviving include: a son, Charles McDonald of Old Fort; two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Beckman of Fremont, and Mrs. Arlene Mull of Bradenton, Florida; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. McDonald was a Faris Institute graduate Class of 1919. She was a homemaker and member of the Old Fort United Methodist Church, and their Womens Group; Kum Join Us Farm Womens Club, and charter member Pleasant Twp. 13 Farm Bureau Council.

The Rev. Jerry Wiles will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be at PLeasant Union cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 6-9 p.m., tonight, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Old Fort United Methodist Church.

Trevor Charles Dale
Infant son

Trevor Charles Dale, infant son of Terry L. and Anne (Widman) Dale passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2000 at Bixby Hospital.

Surviving include: grandmother, Rose Mary Widman of Tiffin; grandfathers, Thomas Widman of Sandusky and Dennis Dale of Jefferson City, Tn.; grandmother LaDonne Dale of Deerfield, Mich.; great grandparents, Monroe and Wilma Vaughn of Deerfield, Mich.; great grandmother, Marian Dale of Osseo, Mich; and several aunts and uncles.

The Rev. Fr. John Shiffler will officiate the funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fayette, Ohio. Burial will be at Pleasant View Union cemetery.

Howard Eugene Fey
Former Tiffin resident

Howard Eugene Fey, formerly of Greenfield Street in Tiffin, died Saturday Nov. 11, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

The funeral was Tuesday at the McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

Mr. Fey was born Jan. 26,1949, in Tiffin, to Walter Fey, who preceded him in death, and Olive Dilts of Tiffin, who survives.

He was a 1967 graduate of Columbian High School. He was employed at Phelps Dodge, Hopkinsville, and was retired from the U.S. Army.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two daughters, Sandra Runner of Clarksville, Tenn., and Martina Traylor of Gulfport, Miss.; three brothers, Larry A. Fey of Frankfort, Ky., Paul E. Fey of Tiffin and Donald Smith of Monroeville; three sisters, Sue Wise of Tiffin, Mary Fleure of Attica and Donna Smith of Monroeville; and a grandchild.

Members of the military served as pallbearers.

Michael "Mr. K." Kovach
Fostoria KFC owner/operator

Michael "Mr. K." Kovach, 83, of 1280 Van Buren St., Fostoria, died at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in The Independence House.

He was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Fredericktown, Pa., to George and Anna (Popadines) Kovach. He married Julia Pusheck. She died Oct. 9, 1984. He married Cheryl Ruth Brown Aug. 26, 1986. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Judith Ann Giblin of Sylvania; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Kovach of California and John Kovach of Upper Sandusky; and three sisters, June Zeisel of California, Helen Grabowski of Michigan and Elizabeth Wendling of New Jersey.

A daughter, Michelle; a son, Michael; and three sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Kovach was owner and operator of "Kentucky Fried Chicken" in Fostoria since 1967 and a member of the St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Byzantine Church in Livonia, Mich., with the Rev. Nicholas Ivan officiating. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Southfield, Mich.

Visitation will be 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. today and 12-5 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Manns-Ferguson Funeral Home, Livonia, Mich., where a "Parastas" service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to The Bridge Hospice Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice, c/o Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, which is handling the local arrangements.

Guy A. Leslie
Tiffin area resident

Guy A. Leslie, 45, of 4781 E. TR 138, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital, Tiffin.

Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Dorothy Mae Logsdon
New Washington resident

Dorothy Mae Logsdon, 72, of Swabb Road, New Washington, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Med Central Hospital, Mansfield, following a short illness.

She was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Tiffin to Victor and Edith (Hoerig) Thom. She married Ralph E. Logsdon April 17, 1948. He survives, along with two sons, Patrick Ralph Logsdon of New Washington and Michael Logsdon of Apple Valley, Calif.; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Edna Hartman and Evelyn Free of Tiffin and Anna "Tutty" Newman of Maumee.

She retired from MTD in Willard and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Catholic Ladies of Columbia.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Bernard Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Dendinger officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Catholic cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Bernard School Endowment Fund, the Buckeye Central School Endowment Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Joan Ruth Fritz
Former G.E. employee

Joan Ruth Fritz, 69, 545 W. Market St., Apt. 205, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in St. Francis Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for three days.

She was born April 29, 1931, in Tiffin, to the late Frederick and Edna (Tilton) Martin.

Surviving are: five sons, Lawrence Fritz of Marblehead, Joseph Fritz of Tiffin, Steven Fritz of Sycamore, Edward Fritz, also of Tiffin and Randy Fritz of Bucyrus; two daughters, Mrs. Kendall (Kim) Kurtz of New Riegel and Mrs. William (Kelly) Johnson of Old Fort; 11 grandchildren; a brother, William Martin of Tiffin; and two sisters, Edith Hunter and Mary Spraggins, both of Tiffin.

Also preceding her in death were four brothers, James, Edward, Richard and Robert Martin; and two sisters, Vernice Murphy and Evelyn Hunter.

Mrs. Fritz, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Women of the Moose, had formerly been employed at the General Electric Corp. and H.J. Heinz Co. She had lived her entire life in Tiffin.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Say officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Floyd K. Starkey
Retired appraiser/truckdriver

Floyd K. Starkey, 74, of 44 S. Marion St., Bloomville, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 18, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Aug. 4, 1926, in Bloomville, to Verdon and Lucille (Factor) Starkey. On Oct. 8, 1948, he married Carol Ballfinch, who survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, James A. and Terry L. Starkey, both of Tiffin and Jack E. of Bloomville; a daughter, Mrs. William (Kristy R.) Cochran of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie De Monte of Fort Seneca; a brother, Richard Olds of Fostoria; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Reva Ann; and a granddaughter, Amy Lynn Cochran.

Mr. Starkey, a member of Hopewell Church of God, rural Bascom, worked for many years as a truck driver and as an appraiser for Appraiser Research Corp. in Findlay, retiring in 1988.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he also was a member and past commander of Caulfield American Legion Post 434, Bloomville and Tiffin AmVets.

A 1944 graduate of Bloomville High School, he also served as a bus driver for S.C.A.T.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Randy Callaway officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville, where military graveside services will be conducted by Caulfield American Legion Post 434.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund, S.C.A.T. or the American Cancer Society.

Guy A. Leslie
Trout River Studio owner/wood carver

Guy A. Leslie, 45, 4781 E. TR 138, died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Oct. 25, 1955, in Rogers City, Mich., to William and Diana (Rigg) Leslie. His mother survives in Hudson, Ohio. His wife, Diana E. (Cramer) Leslie, whom he married June 22, 1994, at a trout stream in Castalia, survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Emily and Elizabeth Cramer, both of Tiffin; three brothers, Mark Leslie of Dublin, Jeff Leslie of Osceola, Ind. and Paul Leslie of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Mark (Terri) Johnson of Hudson and Mrs. Mark (Jan) Leslie of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and many cousins.

Mr. Leslie, a member of the Friends Church (Quakers), was a wood carver and owner of Trout River Studio, Tiffin.

An avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Tiffin and Ducks Unlimited.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Izaak Walton League, Tiffin or the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library.

Yvonne Ardell Shumway
Tiffin native

Yvonne Ardell (Ingman) Shumway, 91, formerly of Tiffin, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Brunswick, Ohio, where she resided.

She was born Jan. 22, 1909, in Tiffin, to Clarence and Nelly Ingman. Her husband, David Herrick Shumway, also is deceased.

Surviving are a son, David Shumway of Strongsville; a sister, Mildred Ehrenfried of Akron; and a grandson, Ronald Shumway of North Royalton.

A brother, Ronald Ingman, also is deceased.

A 1927 graduate of Columbian High School, Mrs. Shumway was a homemaker.

She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Women's Club, both of Tiffin.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Carlson A Golden Rule Funeral Home, 1642 Pearl Rd., Brunswick (1/2 mile south of Rt. 303). Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn cemetery, Tiffin.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
