Marcella M. Ferrall
Duchess Lane homemaker

Marcella M. Ferrall, 91, 14 Duchess Lane, died at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Oct. 13, 1909, in Tiffin, to Edward and Cecilia (Bogner) Daniel. On Oct. 5, 1935, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Wilbur Ferrall, who survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs.Joyce Peck of Fostoria and Mrs. Fred (Jane) Sweeney of Sylvania; a brother, Fred Daniel of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

A daughter, Ann Goetz; four sisters, Edna Margraf, Alma Daniel, Agnes Daniel and Margaret Frankart; and a brother, Herman Daniel, also are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Ferrall, also served as a volunteer in the Calvert High School cafeteria and for the Red Cross.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and had been a Girl Scout leader for a number of years.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Ankenbrandt as celebrant. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Mass Friday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.

James M. Scherger
National Machinery retiree

James M. Scherger, 83, of 6275 S. SR 587, New Riegel, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Bascom, to William and Edna (Huth) Scherger. His wife, Marie L. (Schalk) Scherger, whom he married Nov. 30, 1940, in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Kenneth Scherger of Jupiter, Fla. and Steven and William Scherger, both of New Riegel; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Shirley Ann) Rogier of Risingsun and Mrs. William (Mary) Weinandy of Findlay; a sister, Alma "Monie" Ward of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Elchert and Evelyn Elchert; and a brother, Robert Scherger.

Mr. Scherger, a grain farmer, retired in 1978 as a machinist from the National Machinery, after 37 years of service.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe and Africa, he was a member of American Legion Post 354, New Riegel; New Riegel Moose Lodge 872, Wyandot Squares Dance Club, Catholic Knights of Ohio, the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel.

He received his education in The Good School in Bascom.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Leonard Kistler officiating. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by New Riegel American Legion Post 354..

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Virginia R. 'Midge' Gircsis
Former visiting nurse

Virginia R. "Midge" Gircsis, 70, of US Rt. 224, Attica, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in the Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard.

She was born April 29, 1930, in Kenova, W.Va., and lived in Attica since 1980.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Gircsis; three sons, James Wilson of North Royalton, Jim Wilson of Greenwich and Glen Dalton of Bellville, Ill. three step-daughters, Shareen Molnar of Punta Gorda, Fla., Karen Bogart and Laine Hogle, both of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a step-son, Harold Gircsis of Port Charlotte; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Eshenbrenner of Cleveland, Tenn. and Dorothy Arnett of Willard; and two brothers, Richard Dalton of Ashland and Fred Dalton Jr. of Toledo.

A son, Edward Gircsis, also is deceased.

Mrs. Gircsis, a member of the Attica United Methodist Church and its Women's Group, had been employed as a visiting nurse for the Home Health Care Industry.

She also was a member of the Eastern Star in Tiffin.

The Rev. Thom Kalb will conduct the noon Saturday service in the Secor Funeral Home, Willard. Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery, New Haven.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Vincent J. 'Vinnie' Gaietto
Co-owner Gaietto Sunoco

Vincent J. "Vinnie" Gaietto, 78, of 50 Jackson St., died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1922, in Tiffin to Louis and Irma (Roos) Gaietto. His father is deceased. His mother survives in Tiffin. On July 28, 1945 he married Margaret M. Tiell in St. Joseph Church. She died March 24, 1998.

Also surviving are: four sons, David Gaietto of Auburn, Ind., Robert Gaietto of Sycamore, and Vincent and Kenneth A. Gaietto, both of Tiffin; five daughters, Mrs. Carol Clark of Galion, Mrs. Jane Carroll of Sylvania, Mrs. Ann Marie Waire of Tiffin, Mrs. Christine Lemmon of Milford, and Mrs. Kathleen Reser of Tiffin; four brothers, Lawrence Gaietto of Lima, Louis M. Gaietto of Tiffin, Joseph Gaietto of Paris, Tenn., and Tom Gaietto of Bowling Green, Ky.; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Schleter and Mrs. Irma Rose Hill, both of Tiffin, and Sister M. Angela (Irene) of Toledo; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were: a sister, Sister Merici; a brother, Eugene Gaietto; and a grandchild.

Mr. Gaietto was a Class of 1940 Calvert High School graduate. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran who served during World War II as a flight engineer on bombers. A co-owner of Gaietto Sunoco Service Station for 26 years, he also retired from American Standard in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church; American Legion Post 169; AmVets Post 48; and the American Motorcycle Association, Charter member.

The Rev. Frank A. Murd will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday service at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 tonight at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home. A wake service will be at 8:45. Military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council. The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the Ursuline Sisters Retirement Fund in Toledo and/or Calvert High School Foundation.

Dortha A. Swickard
Long-time Fort Seneca resident

Dortha A. Swickard, 92, formerly of Fort Seneca, died at 3 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the Valley View Health Care, Fremont, where she had been since Nov. 15, 2000.

She was born Dec. 14, 1907, to Isaac V. and Emily (Beck) Murray.

She married Willis A. Swickard in Toledo on March 9, 1929, and he died July 14, 1992.

A son, Randall M. Swickard of Tiffin, survives along with three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A grandson and a brother, Leon Vard Murray, preceded her in death.

She graduated in 1926 from Bettsville High School and from Woodbury University in Los Angeles in 1927. She was a homemaker, a member of Fort Seneca Community United Church of Christ, a 50-year member of Eastern Star Tiffin Chapter 189 and a Seneca County Farm Bureau member. She spent most of her life in Seneca County except from 1952-1973 when she was in Michigan.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Bordenkircher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Sunday and one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Fort Seneca Community United Church of Christ.

Georgeann M. Kuenzli
Former president of hair academy

Georgeann M. Kuenzli, 98, of 231 Orchard Lane, Upper Sandusky, died at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Aug. 3, 1902, in Hartford, Mich., to James and Celestial (Banks) Brown and married E. Frederic Kuenzli Sept. 20, 1932, in Indiana. He died May 15, 1983.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Jacquelyn) Predmore of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Four brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kuenzli was a cosmetologist and owned and operated several beauty salons including the former Clip and Curl Salon, Upper Sandusky. She was a member of Ohio Beauty Culture Schools Association, where she had been president and member of the board of directors. She served on legislative committees to promote better laws for cosmetology schools and in 1965 was voted to the National Teachers' Council, serving for one year. She had been president and director of Georgeann Academy of Hair Design, Tiffin, which was established in 1962 by the Kuenzli family, and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky. She enjoyed reading, floral arranging, interior decorating, big band music, parties and dancing.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Lawrence Scharf officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter Catholic cemetery.

There will be a private family visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter School Endowment Fund or Hospice of Wyandot County.

The Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, is in charge of the arrangements.

Winifred A. Kreim
New Washington resident

Winifred A. Kreim, 95, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the Altercare Nursing Home in Bucyrus.

She was born Dec. 15, 1904, in St. Stephens to Bernard and Helen (Felter) Blust. She married Walter Kreim Sr. and he died in 1963.

Survivors include: three sons, Bernard and James of Newark and Walter of North Royalton; a daughter, Helena Heydinger of Attica; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: a grandson, two brothers and seven sisters.

She lived most of her life in the New Washington area and was a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in New Washington, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington, with the Rev. Robert Dendinger officiating, and burial will be in the St. Bernard Catholic cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Secor Funeral Home, New Washington, where there will be a Christian prayer service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the St. Bernard School Endowment Fund or to the New Washington Library.

Marjory L. Myers
Former Vickery resident

Marjory L. Myers, 79, formerly of CR 247, Vickery, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Firelands Hospital at Sandusky.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Venice to Winthrop and Clara (Hodkinson) Keegan. She married Lester E. Myers Aug. 3, 1937, and he died March 30, 1995.

Surviving are: a son, Tommy E. Myers of Castalia; two daughters, Judy Gressman of Sandusky and Mrs. Fredrick (Joyce Ann) Gfell of Milan; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Merritt Keegan of Clyde.

Preceding her in death were: eight brothers, Leonard, Johnny, Ross, Cecil, Merlin, Arthur, Gordon and Robert; and two sisters, Mary Kathryn Keegan and Rosie Hebler.

She was educated at the Townsend School, and was a cashier at the turnpike plaza for 14 years and a farmer and housewife.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with interment in the Parkhurst cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to either St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Townsend Township Volunteer Fire Department.

LaVerne M. Knauer
Former bank employee

LaVerne M. Knauer, 90, of Ruffing Family Care Center, Bloomville, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the Care Center.

She was born in Adams Township May 10, 1910, to Alton Roy and Susan Elizabeth (Schubach) Miller. She married Arthur Robertson Knauer Oct. 27, 1936, at home, and he died Dec. 17, 1980.

Survivors include: a daughter, Jane Hurlbert of Tiffin; a grandson, Jay Hurlbert of Columbus, who was raised in the house with the grandparents; and a sister, Lucille Oller of Santa Clarita, Calif.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Roy Burton and Bernard Anson Miller.

She was a 1927 graduate of Columbian High School, a homemaker, and worked at First National Bank of Tiffin, Commercial National Bank of Tiffin and Tiffin Savings Bank. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, enjoyed china painting and working in her flower garden, and had done much family genealogy research.

The funeral will be at 10: 30 a.m. Monday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ or FISH Pantry.

Dortha A. Swickard
Long-time Fort Seneca resident

Dortha A. Swickard, 92, formerly of Fort Seneca, died at 3 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the Valley View Health Care, Fremont, where she had resided since Nov. 15.

She was born Dec. 14, 1907, in Bettsville, to Isaac V. and Emily (Beck) Murray. On March 9, 1929, in Toledo, she married Willis A. Swickard, who preceded her in death July 14, 1992.

Surviving are a son, Randall M. Swickard of Tiffin; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A grandson; and a brother, Leon Vard Murray, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Swickard, a homemaker, was a member of Fort Seneca Community United Church of Christ, the Seneca County Farm Bureau and Eastern Star Tiffin Chapter 189, where she had been a 50-year member.

A longtime Fort Seneca resident, she graduated in 1926, from Bettsville High School and in 1927 from Woodbury University, Los Angeles.

The Rev. Barry Bordenkircher will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Monday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Ralph A. Hayden
Tiffin truck driver

Ralph A. Hayden, 65, 25 1/2 Hall St., died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where he had been a patient for about 10 days.

He was born April 1, 1935, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Orin and Freda (Davis) Hayden. His mother survives in Madison, Maine. On Oct. 13, 1999, in Tiffin, he married Vivencia Concepcion. She survives.

Other survivors include: six sons, Joe Hayden of Maine, Ralph Jr. and David Hayden, both of Connecticut, Phil Hayden of Chicago, Ill., Patrick Hayden of Knox, Maine, and Mark Ligtas of Tiffin; a daughter, Venese Ligtas of Tiffin; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a brother, Gerald Hayden of Maine.

Preceding him in death were his father and a son, Timothy Hayden, who died at birth.

Mr. Hayden, a member of Tiffin Apostolic Church, was employed as a truck driver for Top Line Transport Co.

He had resided in Tiffin for a year, coming here from Worland, Wyo.

The Rev. Larry L. Wagner will conduct the 8 p.m. Tuesday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6 p.m. until time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church.
