Michael B. Kuhn
Former rural Fostoria resident

Michael B. Kuhn, 60, of 204 S. Robinson Drive, Oak Harbor, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 17, 1940, in Fostoria, to the late Clarence L. and Evelyn E. (Bigham) Kuhn. His wife, Roselyn J. (Finsel) Kuhn, whom he married Aug. 26, 1961, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, survives in Oak Harbor.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Jennifer L.) Canning of Temperance, Mich., Natalie L. Kuhn of Pickerington and Mrs. Kevin (Angela E.) Dalton of Toledo; a son, Timothy M. Kuhn of Oak Harbor; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Mr. Kuhn, a 1958 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, retired from Webster Industries, Tiffin.

A member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, he had attended the University of Dayton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel J. Ring officiating. The rosary will be prayed at the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin or St. Boniface Church and Schools.

Helen W. Ludwig
Westwood Drive resident

Helen W. Ludwig, 87, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at her home at 106 Westwood Drive. Arrangements are pending at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.

John C. Yeater
Brother of Tiffin resident

John C. Yeater, 85, of TH 107, Upper Sandusky, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

He was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Wharton, to Mohler and Ruth (Enders) Yeater. On Aug. 24, 1940, in Upper Sandusky, he married Beulah M. Heffelfinger, who died April 12, 1989.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry Yeater of Johnsville, Ohio and Dennis Yeater of Upper Sandusky; three daughters, Janice Scribner of Harpster, Joyce Yeater of Simi Valley, Calif. and Mrs. Roger (Marie) Stief of Carey; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Yeater of Upper Sandusky; and two sisters, Virginia Troiano of Tiffin and Hazel Bakies of Carey.

Also preceding him in death were two grandchildren; three brothers, Jay, Irvin and Harry; and three sisters, Alice Rose, Pearl Myers and Marie Steen.

Mr. Yeater, a farmer, also worked at the Wyandot Dolomite in Carey for 17 years, retiring in 1984.

He attended Wharton School and enjoyed vegetable gardening, cutting wood, walking in the woods, watching the eagles sites in the area and riding around in his car in Wyandot County.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Donald Hensley officiating. Interment will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Heart Support Group, American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Foundation, in care of the Lucas Funeral Home, P.O. Box 207, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351..

Gladys Mae Wahl
Former office supervisor/homemaker

Gladys Mae Wahl, 83, formerly of Hickory Street, Clyde and Adams TR 148, Republic, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in the Elmwood Nursing Center, Green Springs.

She was born April 19, 1917, in Sandusky, to William and Edith (Otto) Smith. Her husband, Linden L. Wahl, whom she married Feb. 22, 1941, died July 6, 1990.

Survivors include: four daughters, Lynette Wahl of Columbus, Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Baldosser of Green Springs, Phyllis Wahl, also of Columbus and Mrs. Lee (Susan) Allen of Roy, Utah; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Frances) Toth of Concord, Calif. and Shirley Adams of Cleveland.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Wahl; two brothers, Robert Louck and William Smith; and three sisters, Juanita Sharp, Marian McCreery and Jerry Schweifort.

Mrs. Wahl, a 1936 graduate of Sandusky High School, had been employed as an office supervisor for Periodical Publishers Services in Sandusky for 20 years, retiring in 1978. She also was a homemaker.

A member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Republic, she collected crosses and gave programs about her collection.

The Rev. Paul Long will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Saturday service in Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Block cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, CR 21, Republic, OH.

Betty J. Bowers
Bellevue General Electric retiree

Betty J. Bowers, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at her residence at 310 Brinker St., Bellevue.

She was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Adams Township, to the late Roscoe A. and Aleta S. (Scheerer) Loose. On Feb. 21, 1948, in Attica Lutheran Church, she married Byron F. Bowers, who also is deceased.

Surviving are a daughter, Aleta Sieger, two grandchildren and a son-in-law, all of Bellevue.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, John, Don and Dayle Loose; and two sisters, Helen Coup and Lucille Dendinger.

Mrs. Bowers, a 1946 graduate of Attica High School, worked in Quality Control at the General Electric Lamp Plant, retiring Nov. 20, 1985.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Republic, its Women's Circle I- Fish and Loaves; served as church treasurer for 22 years and was a member of the church council. She also was a member of the GE Wots and the GE Retirement Club.

The Rev. Paul Long will conduct the 2 p.m. Saturday service in Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Block cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 3959 N. Seneca CR 21, Republic, OH 44867.

Ruth S. Mergenthaler
Former West Independence resident

Ruth S. Mergenthaler, 81, of 110 Frankford Ave., Lubbock, Texas, formerly of West Independence, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, in the Atria Cottage Nursing Home, Lubbock.

She was born Aug. 3, 1919, in Allentown, Pa., to John and Gertrude (Allison) Spatz. Her husband, Lloyd Mergenthaler, whom she married in 1950, preceded her in death in 1978.

Survivors include: a son, Philip Mergenthaler of Augustine, Fla.; a daughter, Jane Cohen of Levelland, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Mergenthaler, a homemaker, was a member of Emilie United Methodist Church, Levittown, Pa.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Union cemetery, West Independence, with the Rev. Branson Hawkes officiating.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Emilie United Methodist Church, Levittown.

Memorials may be made to Buck County Public Library System, Levittown, Pa., in care of the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, OH 44830.

Doris M. Porter
Retired secretary

Doris M. Porter, 82, formerly of 60 N. SR 101 Lot 77, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Toledo, to Charles and Mary (Adams) Finch. On March 9, 1940, in Bowling Green, she married Floyd Thomas Porter. He died Jan. 28, 1997.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas A. Porter of Toledo, Paul F. Porter of Tiffin and David L. Porter of Fostoria; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Katherine) Bobel of Gallipolis and Mrs. James (Helen) Beam of Tiffin; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Two brothers also are deceased.

Mrs. Porter, a graduate of Bowling Green High School, had been employed as a secretary at Union Carbide in Fostoria for 11 years.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, its Trinity Twosomes and Mother's Circle.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will be in Sandridge cemetery, Bascom.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Trinity United Church of Christ.

Naomi C. Atkinson
Fremont native

Word has been received of the death of Naomi Catherine Atkinson, 57, of Oaks Trailer Park, Mineral Wells, W.Va., who died Monday, Jan. 9, 2001, in the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 7, 1944, in Fremont.

Surviving are two sisters, Arlene Feasel and Lucy McKitrick; and a brother, Myron L. Schiffer.

A member of the Christian Life Center, Ms. Atkinson had worked as a dental hygienist for 32 years.

A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m., Jan. 16 in the Christian Life Center of South Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Delton Smith officiating.

Memorials may be made to the James P. Wolfe Community Center, in care of the Christian Life Center, 3211 Sixth Ave., Parkersburg, W.Va. 26101.

Lydwin Mary Fisher
Former Pearl Street resident

Lydwin Mary Fisher, 98, formerly of 85 Pearl St., died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in St. Francis Home.

A funeral Mass is planned in St. Mary Catholic Church.

Further arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Sister M. Evangeline Engemann
Centenarian/teacher

Sister M. Evangeline Engemann, 104, 200 St. Francis Ave., died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in St. Francis Home.

She was born Sept. 12, 1896, in North Creek, Ohio, to William and Mary (Ball) Engemann.

She also was preceded in death by five sisters, Theresa Sheely, Bertha Engemann, Emma Miller, Anna Okuley and Mary W. Engemann; and two brothers, Ferdinand and John Engemann.

Sister made her first reception Jan. 10, 1918, her first profession Feb. 11, 1919 and her final profession Aug. 26, 1925. In 1917 she worked at the Orphanage School at the Motherhouse; in 1918 at the Orphanage School and at St. Joseph's; served as a teacher 1919-27 at the following schools: Custar, Lorain, St. Joseph's, Fort Jennings and Edgerton: While at the Motherhouse she also was a visitatrix, teacher and librarian. She also worked for a number of years as a librarian, maintained teacher's records; as a farm and lawn supervisor at the Motherhouse and as a second assistant, librarian and lawns.

In 1940 at the Motherhouse she was appointed lawns, librarian and worked in the museum. In 1944 in Toledo, CCHS she was a librarian. In 1945 in Willard she worked in social services; again served as teacher, convent school librarian at the Mother House and helped with the museum. In 1947 in Toledo she was appointed a teacher. From 1948-57 at the Motherhouse she was a teacher, worked in the library and museum and in 1963 she was appointed to the library, museum and the restoration Holy Family Section.

From 1964-69 she served as teacher and worked the Convent High School library. From 1970-75 she was appointed to the museum at the Motherhouse and in 1976 until 1978 she served as director of the St. Francis Historical Museum at St. Francis Convent. In 1979-91 she served as administrator of the museum and cared for the grotto. From 1992-2001 she was a special praying member.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Francis Convent Chapel, Tiffin, with the Rev. Michael Dandurand as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday in St. Francis Convent Chapel, where a wake service will be at 4 p.m.

Jack W. Rosenfelt
National Carbide retiree

Jack W. Rosenfelt, 69, 35 St. Francis Ave., died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Beatty) Rosenfelt. He had never married .

Survivors include: a brother Frank Rosenfelt Jr. of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Dale (Shirley Ann) Barsness of Simsbury, Conn. and Mrs. Terry (Mary Elizabeth) Smith of Buckeye, Ariz.

A sister, Helen Marie Rosenfelt, died in infancy.

Mr. Rosenfelt, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from the National Electrical Carbon in Fostoria, where he had worked 1956-86.

He spent his life serving Veterans Organizations including member and as an officer of the following:

AmVets, where he served as post sergeant-at-arms, 1999-2000, as post senior vice commander 1996-97 and post junior vice commander 1995-96.

American Legion where he served in the following: county commander 1998-99, county first vice commander 1997-98, post first vice commander 1997-98, county 2nd vice commander 1996-97, post 2nd vice commander 1996-97, post commander 1993-94, post 2nd vice commander 1992-93, county commander 1987-88, county first vice commander 1986-87, county 2nd vice commander 1985-86, post commander 1984-85, post 2nd vice commander 1983-85 and post sergeant-at-arms and honor guards 1954-56.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in McPherson cemetery, Clyde, with Jim Rochester as clergyman.

Following the graveside service, friends may call at the Tiffin AmVets.

Memorials may be made to the United Veterans Council, in care of the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, who are in charge of arrangements.
