Lowell J. Miller
(1932 - 2004)

FAYETTE - Lowell J. Miller, 72, of Fayette, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 4, 2004, in his home, following a lengthy illness.
Born April 25, 1932, near Fayette, to Ada (Balser) and Solomon Miller, he married Dorothy Beck on Sept. 16, 1951, and she survives.
A farmer, he also worked at the former Hayes-Albion in West Unity and the former Fayette Tubular. He was a member of St. JohnÕs United Church of Christ in Archbold.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Neil Miller of Fayette, Mark (and wife, Amy) Miller and Larry (Mary) Miller, both of Archbold, and Brian (Billie) Miller of West Unity; a daughter, Mrs. Dave (Luan) Rochefort of Archbold; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Anna) Miller of Archbold; and two sisters, Alice Rowe and Helen Cook, both of Archbold. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, David Miller; and a brother, Carl Miller.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2:30-9 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ with the Rev. David Voll to officiate. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Merlin 'Kerdie' Wallen
(1942 - 2004)

PIONEER - Merlin 'Kerdie' Wallen, 62, of Pioneer and formerly of Manchester, Mich., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the emergency room of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan. Born Jan. 19, 1942, at Ann Arbor, Mich., he was the son of Lulie (Armstrong) and Burton Wallen. A 1962 graduate of Manchester High School, he was employed at Kustom Fit of Ohio for approximately 16 years. He was a lead welder and tube bender and more recently a cashier at Exit 2 Stop & Go. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Prattville, Mich. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Oren (Ethel) Wellhoff of Harrison, Mich., Edith Creech of Bryan, Mrs. Ralph (Christine) Creech of Tecumseh, Mich. and Mrs. Ron (Anna) Stark of Osseo, Mich.; three brothers, Bob (and wife, Cindy) Wallen of Munith, Mich., Ed Wallen of Pioneer, and Martin Wallen of Pioneer; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Burton Jr. Visitation will be held Sunday from noon until 1 p.m. in the Pioneer Community Center. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Pioneer Community Center with Pastor Don Stewart to officiate. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Edith Creech
(1929 - 2006)

TECUMSEH, Mich. - Edith Creech, 76, of Tecumseh and formerly of Pioneer, Ohio, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio-Bryan.
Born May 21, 1929, at Jackson, Ky., to Lulie (Armstrong) and Burton Wallen, she married Clifton Creech in January 1946 at Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death in October 1982.
A nurse's aide in the hospital at Owosso, she had also previously worked as a sales clerk at the Meijer store in Ann Arbor.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tecumseh.
Surviving are two sons, William (and wife, Gina) Creech of Pioneer, Ohio, and Doug (Peggy) Creech of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, Amanda Betzer and Amber, Kelly, Rhonda Sue, Clifton, Kristen and Sondra Creech; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (and wife, Cindy) Wallen of Munith, Ed Wallen and Martin Wallen, both of Pioneer; and three sisters, Mrs. Oren (Ethel) Wellhoff of Harrison, Mrs. Ralph (Christine) Creech of Tecumseh and Mrs. Ron (Anna) Stark of Osseo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles; and three brothers, Burt, Frank and Merlin Wallen.
Visitation will be held Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Bayani U. Pastrana to officiate. Interment will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Grove, Manchester.
Memorials may be made to the Lighthouse unit at Harborside or to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tecumseh.

Heinz W. Eppelmann Sr.
(1944 - 2006)

HICKSVILLE - Heinz W. Eppelmann Sr., 61, of Hicksville, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born Sept. 20, 1944, at Munich, Germany, to Emelia (Baum) and Heinz Eppelmann, he married Loretta J. Shreve, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He married Janice Shreve in 1991, and she survives.
An employee at Midwest Stamping in Edgerton, he attended Kingdom Hall JehovahÕs Witness in Antwerp.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Crystal Boroff of Weaver, Ala., Loretta Brook of Bowden, Ga. and Amelia Haynes of Jonesboro, Ga.; a son, Heinz Eppelmann Jr.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Linke of Woodville and Nina Evans of Gainesville, Ga.; and four brothers, Pete Karzyknow of Jewel, Nicholai Eppelmann and Shook Karzyknow, both of Defiance, and Evan Karzyknow of Livonia, Mich.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Crippled Children and Adult Society.

Frances Jean Firestone
(1924 - 2004)

MONTPELIER - Frances Jean Firestone, 80, of Montpelier, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier.
Born June 10, 1924, at Montpelier, to Cloa A. (Sherer) and Frank M. Guilinger, she married John M. Firestone and he preceded her in death in February 1995.
A 1942 graduate of Montpelier High School, she had attended De Pauw University.
She was a homemaker and had also been a title clerk for the Montpelier Auto Auction for 25 years.
A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1940, she was involved as a Sunday school teacher and directed the junior choir. She had taught piano for years.
Along with others, she initiated the first Montpelier United Fund.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (and wife, Linda) of Howell, Mich. and Dr. Thomas (Kara) of Carbondale, Ill.; four grandchildren, Matthew Firestone, Michelle Wannemacher, Melinda Huntington and Melissa DeGroff; a great-grandson, Zachary Wannemacher; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Phyllis) McCain of Sun Lake, Ariz. and Margaret Dyk of Fort Wayne, Ind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Debra DeGroff in 1995; a sister, Mary Miles Zeisloft; and a great-grandson, Tyler Wannemacher.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-8 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Linda S. Carter to officiate.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.
Memorials may be made to the church, the Dilworth Center or to the donor's choice.

Ruby Word
(1925 - 2004)

MONTPELIER - Ruby Jean Word, 78, of rural Montpelier, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, shortly after being admitted.
Born Dec. 9, 1925, at Garrett, Ind., to Erma Jewell (Ray) and Homer Alty Myers, she married Owen Richard 'Joe' Word on Dec. 9, 1944, at West Unity, and he survives.
A homemaker, she was an area resident for the past 21 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ron (Sue) Gilbert of Edon, Mrs. James (Teri) Jarrett of Auburn, Ind. and Mrs. Phil (Kelly) Vreeland of Montgomery, Mich.; a son, Dan (Diana) Word of Lake Butler, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bettie Buell of Hamilton, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joseph Ray Myers.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Al Word to officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
