Walter C. Ruffing
Retired Attica farmer

Walter C. Ruffing, 81, of 16988 E. TR 126, Attica, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Hillside Acres, Willard, following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Reed Township, to Albert and Rosa (Stockmaster) Ruffing. On April 5, 1945, he married Berneice Daniel. She is deceased.

Survivors include: two sons, Norman and Roger Ruffing, both of Attica; a daughter, Kathleen Love of Attica; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Weidinger of Attica.

A brother, Leo; and a sister, Anna Reinhart, preceded him in death.

A farmer, Mr. Ruffing was a member of Reed Assumption Catholic Church, Reed Township; Bellevue Eagles 490 and the Farm Bureau.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Reed Assumption Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Nagele officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

William L. 'Chink' Clements

Word has been received of the death of William L. "Chink" Clements, who died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Garner, N.C.

Lowell K. Litton
Former area resident

Lowell K. Litton, 64, of Central Valley Rd., Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Fostoria, died on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was born Jan. 23, 1937 to Floyd and Katie (Faulkner) Litton, both are deceased. On June 4, 1961 he married Nancy Landers in Fostoria, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Lowell K. Litton, Jr., of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three daughters, Wendy Kiehl of Russellville, Ark, Carol Seale of Smyrna, Tenn., and Tina Flanagan of Fostoria; a brother, Merle Litton of Risingsun; six sisters, Mrs. Rachel Dissauer of Risingsun, Mrs. Doris Harrah of Little Hocking, OH., Mrs. Linda Jeffers of New Haven, W. VA., Ms. Rita Riedel of Helena, OH., Mrs. Jeannette Bloemer of Amsden, OH., and Mrs. Patricia Himes of Dallas, Tex.; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Mr. Litton was a U.S. Marine Veteran and a mechanic at Transcor of America in Nashville, Tennessee. He was an avid race car driver known as L-21 in N.W. Ohio.

The Rev. Ivan Schwenn will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral services at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Risingsun. Burial will be at Knollcrest cemetery near Arcadia.

There are no visitation hours.

Memorials may be made to the Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department.

Cindi Lee Curless
Former Aeroquip employee

Cindi Lee Curless, 42, of Sandusky Co. Rd. 185, Clyde, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Bellevue Hospital. She was born in Bellevue on March 8, 1958 to Richard Lacy and Shirley Carter Lacy Hall, she survives in Fremont, he died in 1965, her step-father, Cleadis Hall also survives. On Jan. 25, 1992 she married Michael A. Curless, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Daniel Lacy of Georgia, Donald Roy Estep of Pikeville, KY., and Michael Curless of Clyde; a daughter, Rachel Curless of Clyde; two brothers, Robert White of Fremont, and Rodney Sharp of Lake City AK.; three sisters, Mrs. Shirley Zeigler and Mrs. Denise Dennis, both of Clyde, and Donna Jeanne Davis of Murray, KY.; and six grandchildren.

Also deceased are: two brothers, Richard and Michael Lacy.

Mrs. Curless attended Clyde City Schools and worked for Aeroquip in Fremont as a sprayer until she was disabled in 1992. She was a member of the Moose Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary, both in Clyde.

The Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 5-8 p.m., tonight, at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis.

Ada M. Kocher
Tiffin homemaker

Ada M. Kocher, 101, of 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, died at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the St. Francis Home. She was born Jan. 28, 1900 in Crawford County to Peter and Rose (Sheibley) Heydinger. On June 23, 1925 she was married at St. Bernard Church in New Washington to Clarence F. Kocher, he died on Oct. 7, 1977.

Surviving include: a son, Clarence E. "Bud" Kocher of Dallas, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Donna Uhlenhake and Mrs. Janet Dell, both of Tiffin, and Mrs. Rose McMahon of Ormond Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Also deceased are: a granddaughter, Leslie McMahon; five brothers, Albert, Otto, Edward, Alphonse and Frederick J. Heydinger; and three sisters, Lillian Wurm, Mary Vincent and Renee Heydinger.

Mrs. Kocher was a homemaker and member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin.

The Rev. G. Allan Fillman will officiate the 11 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rock Creek cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, at the Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Melmore United Methodist Church and/or the St. Francis Home.

Hazel M. Bice
Area resident

Hazel M. Bice, 82, of Parkway Ave., Fremont, formerly of Clyde, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the Countryside Continuing Care Center. She was born Aug. 17, 1918 to Russell and Rae Marie (Overholt) Snyder. On April 6, 1946, she married John Bice, he died May 6, 1995.

Surviving include: three brothers, Homer Snyder of Van Wert, Hermie Snyder of Scott, OH., and Ernie Snyder of Fremont; and nieces and nephews.

Also deceased are: two brothers, John and Kenny Snyder; and a sister, Betty Kurns.

Mrs. Bice lived most of her life in the area, she attended Ridge Twp. Schools and worked for the Bendix Corporation, then at Dale's Market, both of Clyde. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Clyde and the VFW Auxiliary of Green Springs.

The Rev. Gerry Gosnell will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Monday funeral services at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clyde.

Carol J. Starkey
Retired office clerk

Carol J. Starkey, 70, of 44 S. Marion St., Bloomville, died Saturday morning, Feb. 3, 2001, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, following an extended illness.

She was born March 15, 1930, in Bloomville, to Royal A. and Laura Louise (Flagle) Ballfinch. Her mother survives in Bloomville. On Oct. 8, 1948, in Greenup, Ky., she married Floyd Starkey, who preceded her in death Nov. 18, 2000.

Other survivors include: three sons, James A. and Terry L. Starkey, both of Tiffin and Jack E. of Bloomville; a daughter, Mrs. William (Kristy R.) Cochran of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also deceased are a daughter, Reva Ann, in 1960; a granddaughter, Amy Lynn Cochran in 1990; and her father.

Mrs. Starkey worked for several years as an office clerk for Appraiser Corp in Findlay, retiring in 1990.

A member of Caufield American Legion Post 434 Auxiliary and the Daughters of American, both of Bloomville, she attended Hopewell Church of God, Bascom.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund, American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Anna Coletta (Schoen) Miller
Bellevue homemaker

Anna Coletta (Schoen) Miller, 89, formerly of 16070 CR 46, Bellevue, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in the Bellevue Hospital.

She was born Dec. 29, 1911, in Reed Township, to Lawrence and Ida (Daniel) Schoen. On June 1, 1935, in Reed Assumption Catholic Church, she married Robert O. Miller, who preceded her in death in May 1986.

Surviving are three sons, Dean and Thomas Miller, both of Bellevue and Eugene "Pete" Miller of Clyde; two daughters, Mrs. David (Jane) Milkie of Bellevue and Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Pifher of Tiro; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Nagel of Attica.

Two brothers and four sisters, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Miller, a homemaker, was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, its Alter Rosary Society and Quality Club.

The Rev. John M. Nagele will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, rural Bellevue.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church Steeple Fund, 16209 Seneca CR 46, Bellevue, OH 44811.

Carl F. Wott
Whirlpool retiree

Carl F. Wott, 85, of Walnut Street, Clyde, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born July 15, 1915, in Clyde, to Henry and Augusta (Busdicker) Wott. His wife, Florence (Kuns) Wott, whom he married May 8, 1940, survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Curt (Karen) Straub of Colorado Springs, Col., Mrs. William (Karyl) Summers and Kristine Wott, both of Clyde; a brother, Richard Wott of Clyde; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

A grandchild, also is deceased.

Mr. Wott, a 1933 Clyde High School graduate, retired in 1969 from farming and in 1981 from Clyde Whirlpool Corp.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he had served as a former Sunday School teacher and usher. He was an honorary member of the Clyde FFA; formerly served as a Sandusky County 4-H leader and was a charter member of the National Flying Farmer's Association.

A life time resident of the Clyde area, he also was a past member of the Clyde Board of Education and past member of both Clyde Eagles and Moose Lodges.

The Rev. Gerry Gosnell will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Tuesday service in St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Timothy S. Reinhart
Grandson of Tiffin residents

Timothy S. Reinhart, 37, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at his residence in Genoa, following a long illness.

He was born Feb. 6, 1963, in Oregon, Ohio, to Robert W. and Marjorie A. (Nickel) Reinhart Sr. They survive in Genoa.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Bill and Ken Reinhart, both of Genoa; a nephew; grandfathers, Harold C. Reinhart and William A. Nickel, both of Tiffin; and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Frances Reinhart and Mildred Nickel.

Mr. Reinhart had worked for the Peterson Spring Co. of Holland, Ohio for the past 11 years and had been on medical leave for the past year.

A 1981 graduate of Genoa High School, he also graduated from the Ohio State University.

An Eagle Scout, he was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the FFA Alumni, both of Genoa.

He enjoyed wood working, refinishing, working with animals, especially his horse; raising pheasants, which he released; country music and collecting toy tractors.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Genoa. Interment will be in Clay Township cemetery, Genoa.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Scripture service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elsie Eudora Schifer
Former rural Bloomville resident

Elsie Eudora Schifer, 92, of 3546 Albaugh Road, Bloomville, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in the Fairview Manor Nursing Home, Bucyrus.

She was born May 26, 1908, in Chatfield Township, Crawford County, to Daniel and Louise (Bauer) Schimpf. On April 12, 1936, she married John F. Schifer, who survives.

Other survivors include: four children, Mrs. Gene (Marilyn) Gebhardt of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Mrs. Ron (Carolyne) Sand of Bucyrus, Mrs. William (Rosalyn) Cheek of Columbus and Bob Schifer of Bucyrus; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A lifelong Bloomville area resident, Mrs. Schifer graduated from Chatfield High School in 1926.

She was a life member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Chatfield, where she was active in the Ladies Circle, the Women's Missionary organization, as well as many committees of the church.

She also was a member of the Arts Sewing Circle, Crawford County Farm Bureau Women, the Grange and Chatfield Homemakers Club.

Active in the county and State Fairs, winning many blue ribbons, she and her husband also were active in the Crawford County, Sycamore and Lykens Conservation Clubs and enjoyed participating in many activities at the Golden Age Center.

An avid gardener, she also enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning and music, having sung at many weddings.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Nazareth Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michael Wiechers officiating. Burial will be in Nazareth Lutheran cemetery, Chatfield Township.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Wise Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church, Fairview Manor Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the Wise Funeral Home, Bucyrus.
