Jack R. Meade
Clyde Whirlpool retiree

Jack R. Meade, 63, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home on East TR 178, Green Springs.

He was born April 12, 1937, in Pikeville, Ky., to the late Lawrence and Ninetha (Adkins) Meade. His wife, Norma Marie (Harvey) Meade, whom he married Sept. 15, 1955, in Plymouth, Ohio, survives in Green Springs.

Survivors also include: three sons, Rick Meade of Clyde and Barry and Scott Meade, both of Republic; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Meade of New London and Kenny and Gary Meade, both of Green Springs; and five sisters, Ellen Caine, Jo Ann Stiltner and Madelyn Castor, all of Green Springs, Sylvia Weiss of Clyde and Evelyn Estep of Republic.

Also preceding him in death was a brother, Everett.

Mr. Meade was employed at Whirlpool Corp., Clyde Division for 44 years, retiring in 1997.

The Rev. Paul Tyree will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Foos-Klein Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be in Butternut Ridge cemetery, Adams Township.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alice Louise Hahler
Tiffin resident

Alice Louise Hahler, 74, 153 Russell St., died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Tiffin, to Nicholas and Mary (Tiell) Heil. On Aug. 17, 1942, in Tiffin, she married Raymond J. Hahler, who preceded her in death in June 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Vern (Shirley) Fisher of Tiffin; a son, Michael Hahler of Tiffin; a brother, Nicholas "Bud" Heil Jr. of Tiffin; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hahler, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, retired from the packaging department of Ballreich's Potato Chips and Snacks.

The service and visitation in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be private. The Rev. James K. Say will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Seneca County Unit or a charity of the donor's choice.

Carlotta L. Hernandez
Former Clyde/Green Springs resident

Carlotta L. Hernandez, 50, of Perrysburg, formerly of Fremont and the Clyde/Green Springs area, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Inpatient Unit, Perrysburg, following a long illness.

She was born Feb. 2, 1951, in Fremont, to the late Rufus and Anita Hernandez.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert Chavez and Gabriel Arreola, both of Toledo; three daughters, Mary Lou Halbeisen of Fremont and Terresa Ochoa and Priscilla Arreola, both of Toledo; seven grandchildren; and four sisters, Juanita Hernandez, Mary Longoria and Adella Jaso, all of Texas and Andrea Hernandez of Detroit, Mich.

A daughter, Carmen Marie Chavez, also is deceased.

Mrs. Hernandez, a waitress at several area restaurants, was a student at Stautzenberger College in Toledo.

She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, until time of the service at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, OH 43551.

The Strabler Funeral Home, Toledo, is in charge of arrangements.

Carlotta L. Hernandez
Former Clyde/Green Springs resident

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, for Carlotta L. Hernandez, 50, of Perrysburg, who died Monday, Feb. 6, 2001.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation at the church will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday until time of the service.

The Strabler Funeral Home, Toledo, is in charge of arrangements.

Edward C. Smarr
Roppe Corp. employee

Edward C. Smarr, 54, of Buckley Street, Fostoria, died at 8:56 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Wooster, to Carroll and Nina (Baker) Smarr. They survive in Fostoria. He first married Sharon Young, and they were divorced. On April 11, 1998, in Arcadia, he married Nora L. Brown, who survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son, Eddie Smarr of Fostoria; two daughters, Mrs. Tod (Cami E.) Gillian and Traci C. Moyer, both of Fostoria; three stepsons, Jeffrey K. and Mark A. Rochester, both of Fostoria and Howard C. Rochester of Tiffin; a step daughter, Tracy Woodruff of Fostoria; two brothers, Robert L. Smarr of Fostoria and Carroll L. Smarr Jr. of Fairview, W.Va.; three grandchildren and eight step grandchildren.

Mr. Smarr, a Roppe Corp. employee, also was the owner of Paradise Tanning Salon, both of Fostoria.

Dr. Larry W. Knigga will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.

Rilda F. Santangelo
Fostoria homemaker

Rilda F. Santangelo, 76, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at her residence on Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria.

She was born March 8, 1924, in Greensburg, Pa., to Walter and Lucetta (Eicher) Kuhns. Her husband, Michael A. Santangelo, died March 27, 1986.

Survivors include: a son, Orlando Santangelo of Fostoria; two sisters, Martha Virgil of Fruitland Park, Fla. and Ruth Virgil of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A daughter, Evelyn Santangelo; and three sisters, Katherine Jones and Stattira and Dorothy Kuhns, also are deceased.

Mrs. Santangelo was a homemaker.

Services will take place at a later date. Burial will be in St. Vitus cemetery, New Castle, Pa.

There will be no visitation. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Fostoria Community Hospital Foundation.

Lucille Koch
Farmwife

Lucille Koch, 93, formerly of 730 TR 175, Republic, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 6, 2001, in St. Francis Health Care Centre, Green Springs, where she had been a resident for the past nine years.

She was born Sept. 17, 1907, in Townsend Township, Sandusky County, to Carl and Alma (Kriss) Ries. In 1927, she married Clifford C. Koch, who died in 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Eugene C. Koch of Bellevue and Walter D. Koch of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Greulick of Port Clinton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Also deceased are two brothers, Bud and Carl Ries; and a sister, Doris Leibengood.

Mrs. Koch, with her husband, farmed for many years.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Richard Moe of St. Francis Health Care Centre, officiating. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat cemetery, Republic.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Health Care Center Chapel Fund.

Margaret L. Bricely
Upper Sandusky homemaker

Margaret L. Bricely, 87, of 232 Elm Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

She was born June 19, 1913, in Upper Sandusky, to Harry C. and Mary Elizabeth (Gibson) Swartz. Her husband, Ray F. Bricely, whom she married May 4, 1935, in Greenup, Ky., died Jan. 15, 1965.

Survivors include: two nephews, Bill and Bob Swartz, both of Upper Sandusky; and a personal care giver, Marva Scofield, also of Upper Sandusky.

A sister, Alice Swartz; and two brothers, Eugene and John Swartz, also are deceased.

Mrs. Bricely, a homemaker, with her late husband owned and operated a Mink Farm.

A 1932 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, she was a 77-year member of John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky and its Fidelitas Class and Faith Hope Circle.

She also was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 225, the Wyandot County Senior Citizens and AARP and served as a volunteer at the hospital and church.

She also enjoyed bingo and lawn work.

The Rev. Wayne B. Geissinger will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

Paul Berlekamp
Sandusky County farmer

Paul Berlekamp, 86, of Sandusky CR 247, Vickery, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in the Briarfield of Sandusky Nursing Home.

He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Fremont, to Ralph and Estella (Hofelich) Berlekamp. On Dec. 15, 1945, he married Alice Goliver, who survives.

Survivors also include: a step son, Duward Clonch of Vickery; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A brother, Harold Berlekamp, is also deceased.

Mr. Berlekamp, a farmer, received his education in the Townsend and Riley Schools.

A life-time Sandusky County resident, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont and the Sandusky County Farm Bureau.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday until time of the service at the funeral home.

Howard Bilger Jr.
Farmer/construction worker

Howard Bilger Jr., 76, of 3859 Oak Harbor Road, Fremont, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont.

He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Bellevue, to the late Howard F. Sr. and Margaret (Ritter) Bilger. On Dec. 25, 1949, in Tiffin, he married Marilyn J. Love, who survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Alan H. Bilger of Tiffin; a daughter, Brenda Bilger of Fremont; three brothers, Ted and William "Bill" Bilger, both of Bellevue and Jack Bilger of Titusville, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Brooks, Marian Berberick, Sarah Nigro and Mrs. Bob (Molly) Bollenbacher, all of Bellevue; and three grandchildren.

A brother, Ned; and four sisters, Mildred, Margaret, Nadine and Pauline, also are deceased.

Mr. Bilger, a member of the Methodist Church, worked as a farmer and also as a construction worker and bridge yard manager for Mosser Construction in Fremont.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Robert J. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin.

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Viola Catharine Reinhart
Rural New Riegel homemaker

Viola Catharine Reinhart, 99, of 4252 S. TR 85, New Riegel, died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in the Ruffing Family Care Center.

She was born July 23, 1901, in Seneca Township, to Joseph and Catharine (Schwartzmiller) Zoeller. Her husband, August M. Reinhart, whom she married Feb. 12, 1923, in St. Boniface Church, New Riegel, died in 1952.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Francis (Marguerite) Theis of Tiffin and Mrs. Clarence (Dolores) Hemminger of New Riegel; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Rosa Theis and Adeline Reinbolt; three brothers, Francis, John and Edward Zoeller; and a granddaughter, Anita Theis, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Reinhart, a homemaker, was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She also was a charter member of the New Riegel American Legion Auxiliary.

The Rev. Leonard Kistler will be the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Saturday funeral Mass in St. Boniface Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the mass Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where a wake service will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Boniface Restoration Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
