David J. Helkey
Retired National Can supervisor

David J. Helkey, 60, 205 Elm Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1940, in Tiffin to Wilbur T. and Marjorie H. (Kerscher) Helkey. They are deceased.

Surviving are: two sons, David Helkey of Columbus and James Helkey of Toledo; three daughters, Mrs. Kimli White of Perrysburg, Mrs. Neica Raker of Granville and Mrs. Kathryn Beery of Perrysburg; a brother, W. Thomas Helkey of Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Helkey was a 1958 Columbian High School graduate and attended Ohio University. He retired from American National Can as supervisor after 20 years. Previously he worked for Tiffin Glass. A member of AmVets, Eagles 402 and Moose Lodge 846, he was an avid golfer and wood worker.

The Rev. Margaret M. Marks will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Margueritte Jump
Native of Tiffin

Margueritte Jump, 86, of 1017 Edwards St., Saint Marys, Ohio, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., following a brief illness.

She was born in Tiffin Jan. 29, 1915, to Leroy and Eda (Nevius) Yeager. On Oct. 8, 1941 she married Everett Jump. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jim Jump of Naperville, Ill., and David Jump of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Wahrer of Jackson Center and Mrs. Jenny Grobey of Muncie, Ind.; a brother, Dick Yeager of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Dorothy Mosier.

Mrs. Jump was a 1932 graduate of Columbian High School and was formerly employed at the Pure Milk and Dairy Co. of Tiffin. She was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Saint Marys.

The Rev. Marion Hanover and the Rev. David Woodyard will officiate the 11 a.m. Monday service at the Wayne Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Elm Grove cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys.

Memorials may be made to the Wayne Street United Methodist Church and/or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Phyllis Gwendolyn Freece
Retired commissioners clerk

Phyllis Gwendolyn Freece, 81, of 205 E. Pearl St., Findlay, died at 2:48 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee. She was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Tiffin to George L. and Ella Elizabeth (Stuller) Lucas.

On May 31, 1942 she married Frederick C. Freece. He died March 16, 1986.

Surviving are two sons, Frederick G. "Fritz" Freece and Eric W. Freece of Columbus.; a sister, Caryle Freece; and three grandchildren.

A son, Phillip Freece, died in infancy.

Mrs. Freece retired as clerk of Hancock County Commissioners office. Her memberships included: Norcrest Presbyterian Church; O.E.S. 23; Dendarah Court 10 Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America; treasurer of Findlay Ladies Shrine; past president of Alpha Circle CCL; Sycamore Springs Golf Course; secretary for Golferettes; past president of County Commissioner Clerks and Engineers Secretaries Association of Ohio; Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center Auxiliary; secretary-treasurer of PERS Hancock County Chapter 54.

The Rev. Ben Borsay will officiate the 10 a.m. Monday service at the Kirkpatrick-Behnke Funeral Home, Findlay. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. An Eastern Star memorial service will be at 6:45 p.m. Sunday. The Dendarah Court Memorial Service will be immediately following the Eastern Star service.

Memorials may be made to Norcrest Presbyterian Church and/or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Mary Helen Frisch
Retired nurse

Mary Helen Frisch, 87, of 745 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died at 6:03 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at The Independence House, Fostoria.

Born July 7, 1913, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Charles and Catherine (Harrigan) Stock, she married Denver L. Frisch on May 9, 1953, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Detroit. He died June 17, 1990.

Survivors include: a step-son, Larry Frisch of Tampa, Fla; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Patrick Stock of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; and a sister, Mrs. Herve (Theresa) DeJordy of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

A brother, Gerald, is deceased.

She was a retired registered nurse, as a private duty nurse, for Union Carbide and Fostoria City Hospital; a member of Michigan State Nurses Association, Ohio State Nurses Association, St. Wendelin Catholic Church, its Rosary Altar Society and its Memorial Choir.

The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel J. Ring officiating. Interment will be in the St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake Service will be at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church and Schools and Bridge Hospice.

Marguerite D. Laudenslager
Former Upper Sandusky resident

Marguerite D. Laudenslager, 87, formerly of Red Bank, N.J. and Palm Beach, Fla, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, in Charlotte, N.C.

She was born to Alfred and Amanda DeLisle in Somersworth, N.H. She married Walter R. Laudenslager of Upper Sandusky and he died Dec. 25, 1976.

Survivors include a son, Philip of Fort Mill, S.C.; a daughter, Dora Kliem of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

Mrs. Laudenslager was a homemaker; assisted her husband in airport operations in Red Bank, N.J.; of the Catholic faith; and a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with the Father James Holmer officiating. Intermet will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, c/o Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Joseph L. Wirkner
Burgoon farmer/businessman

Joseph L. Wirkner, 58, of CR 39, Burgoon, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Wirkner was born in Fremont April 5, 1943, to Martin Thomas and Norma F. (Beckman) Wirkner. He married Sharon Hower in St. Mary's Church Sept. 28, 1963, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Chris Wirkner of Oak Harbor; a daughter, Amy Vidoli of Strongsville; three grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Ridenour of Bowling Green.

Also deceased are: his parents; two grandchildren, Casey Jo and Anthony Martin Vidoli; a brother, James; and a sister, Janice.

He graduated from Jackson Burgoon High School in 1961; was a farmer; a prominent businessman in Port Clinton; involved in the Draw Bridge Marina Charter Fishing and the Port Clinton Mini Storage; a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Millersville, Fremont Elks, Port Clinton Moose, Colonial Club, and the Port Clinton Yacht Club.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church, Millersville, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg, where a wake service will be in the evening.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Memorial Hospital, the Sid Network of Ohio or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Virginia R. Haughawout
Fostoria resident

Virginia R. Haughawout, 74, of Glenwood Avenue, Fostoria, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in her home.

She was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Fostoria, to Orrel and Mary (Ropp) Brubaker; and married Joe Haughawout Nov. 25, 1944, in Lexington, Ky.

Survivors include: her husband of Fostoria; two sons, John of Findlay and Duncan of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Christine) Luckey of Worthington; and 11 grandchildren.

A brother, Richard Brubaker, is deceased.

Mrs. Haughawout was a 1944 graduate of Fostoria High School; a homemaker; and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and of the Fostoria American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Banson Hawkes being the officiant. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or to the Bridge Hospice of Hancock County.

Donna E. Greenland
Retired GTE clerk

Donna E. Greenland, 73, of 99 Main St., died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at her residence.

Mrs. Greenland was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Marion to Ray S. and Mary Ruth (Norton) Haviland. On June 18, 1971, in Marion she married Donald P. Greenland, and he died June 12, 1994.

Survivors include: a son, George Randall Persinger of Rockledge, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Judy) Kuebler of Tiffin and Mrs. Gary (Catherine) Grote of Dublin; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas J. of Dublin and John Benjamin Haviland of Marion; two sisters, Mrs. Ervin (Mary) Davis of Marion and Mrs. Wayne (Nancy) Bayles of Caledonia.

Three brothers, Ray, Marion and Robert Haviland, are deceased.

She was a 1946 graduate of Marion Harding High School and retired from G.T.E. in Marion as an accounting clerk.

Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will be in Grand Prairie cemetery, Morral.

Visitation is 10-11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.

Marguerite Taylor
Fostoria resident

Marguerite Taylor, 90, formerly of Cheryl Drive, Fostoria, and a resident of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.

She was born Sept. 28, 1910, in Hardin County to Frank and Alda (McGinnis) Tremain; and married Lloyd P. Taylor who is deceased.

Survivors include a brother, Marion Tremain of Kenton; and a sister, Jean Ann Jackson of Lima.

Also deceased are two sisters, Miriam Tremain and Thelma Johnson.

Mrs. Taylor was a 1927 graduate of Ada High School; a homemaker; and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, XYZ Group, Alpha Delta Sunday School teacher, Shepherd Center and former chairperson of Naomi Ruth Circle.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. March 3 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria with the Rev. Branson Hawks officiating.

There will be no visitation or burial.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria.

Sammy Bright
Junior HomeKid

Sammy Bright of 11 Gurley Ave., Greenville, S.C., died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 in Greenville.

He was the son of the late William and Lillian (Zee) Bright.

Surviving are his wife, LaVon (Ford) Bright of Greenville; a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Joanie) Larson of Houston, Texas; a grandson; two sisters, Mrs. W.A. (Ruth) Bauers and Grace Reid; a brother, Jessie Bright of California; eight nieces and 15 nephews and several hundred HomeKid brothers and sisters.

Mr. Bright was raised in the Junior Order Home in Lexington, N.C. and Tiffin.

Memorial services took place Sunday in the Mackey Mortuary, Greenville.

Memorials may be made to the Robert Bruton Scholarship Fund, 1747 Wheeler Bridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Harold R. 'Mickey' McKinnon
National Lime/Stone retiree

Harold R. "Mickey" McKinnon, 74, of 144 Cleveland Ave., Carey, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born May 7, 1926, in Carey, to the late Ralph and Inez (Stork) McKinnon. On Jan. 29, 1949, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Carey, he married Betty J. Rex, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald of Carey and James of Burnet, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. William (Shirley) Straley of Paulding; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Mabel) Anast of Findlay, Rita Cupp of Carey and Mrs. William (Irene) Hunter of Fostoria.

Also preceding him in death were two infant sisters, Helen and Janet McKinnon.

Mr. McKinnon retired in 1989 after 42 years of service from the National Lime and Stone Co. in Carey. He had worked as a safety foreman for the past 25 years.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre, he was a member of American Legion Post 344 and the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, both of Carey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Benjamin Knopp OFM Conv., as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where the rosary will be recited at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Consolation School, in care of the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-1169.
