Laura M. (Beck) Austin
(1923 - 2004)

ARCHBOLD - Laura M. (Beck) Austin, 81, of Archbold, died Monday night, Aug. 2, 2004, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold.
Born May 21, 1923, at Pettisville, to Mary (Yedica) and Oscar Beck, she married Aaron Austin on Dec. 7, 1955, and he preceded her in death.
In 1979, she moved to Edinburg, Texas, and lived there until moving to Fairlawn Haven in March 2004.
Surviving are two stepsons, Robert (and wife, Shirley) Austin of Byron, Ga. and Ted (Linda) Austin of Wapokoneta; four stepdaughters, Mrs. George (Sandra) Gardner of Warner Robins, Ga., Mrs. Richard (Cheryl) Rosser of California, Mrs. Gary (Anita) Paul of Logansport, Ind. and Carol Engler of Bryan; a stepson-in-law, Herman Truasch of Pioneer; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Vaughn) Beck of Winchester, Ky., Don (Janis) Beck of Stryker and Bud (Tootie) Beck of Archbold; two sisters, Lois  Jackson of Tecumseh, Mich. and Mrs. Lowell (Dorothy) Miller of Fayette; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Ed Austin; and a stepdaughter, Arlene Truasch.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Pettisville Cemetery with Pastor Charles Gautsche to officiate. There will be no visitation.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of the arrangements.

Orville D. Scott
(1916 - 2004)

MONTPELIER - Orville D. Scott, 88, of Montpelier, died Monday evening, Aug. 2, 2004, at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Montpelier, following a lengthy illness.
Born March 7, 1916, at  Jefferson Township, to Gertie Jane (Tressler) and Rolla Scott, he married Audrey M. Spangler on Oct. 31, 1936, and she survives.
A lifelong Montpelier area resident and a 1934 graduate of Montpelier High School, he retired in 1981 from the engineering department of ARO Corporation in Bryan where he had been employed for 45 years.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at West  Jefferson and the ARO Credit Union. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Dean (and wife, Calista) Scott of LaConner, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Karen) Stoops of Montpelier; five grandchildren, Scott (Shiela) Stoops of Montpelier, Tony (and friend, Shelly Grant) Stoops of Valdosta, Ga., Mrs. Larry (Lisa) Heiner of Sequim, Wash., Kent Scott of Redmond, Wash. and Mrs. Nathan (Kaia) Causey of Arlington, Wash.; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Carl W. Scott and Ray (Rosemary) Scott, all of Montpelier. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Jeffrey Bischoff to officiate. Burial will be in Shiffler Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.

Lee Roy Dickey
(1941 - 2004)

SHERWOOD - Lee Roy Dickey, 63, of Paulding, died Monday morning, Aug. 2, 2004, at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born July 27, 1941, at Defiance, he was the son of Marie (Sohn) and Adrian Dickey. A mechanic at Moats Ford in Sherwood for many years, he had also been a farmer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam and was a member and former commander of the Sherwood VFW Post No. 5665.
He was a former member and former chief of the Delaware Township Fire Department. Surviving are his mother, Marie Dickey; two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Laura) Rabe of Defiance and Deborah (and husband, Manny Esguerra) Dickey of Minneapolis, Minn.; a granddaughter; a brother, Ernest "Ernie" Dickey of Cecil; and two sisters, Mary Rosebrock and Thelma Nearing, both of Sherwood.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter, Brenda Dickey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory, Sherwood.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Ned Speiser to officiate. Burial will follow in Sherwood Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Sherwood VFW Post No. 5665.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Kanuch
(1947 - 2004)

Patricia L. Kanuch, 57, of Bryan, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital, Andover, while on vacation.
Born May 9, 1947, at St. Louis, Mo., to Kathryn (Todd) and Edward Bene, she married James E. Kanuch on May 3, 1969, and he survives.
A homemaker, she was the treasurer of the Episcopal Shared Ministry. She was a member of the swimming exercise group at the YMCA, a volunteer at the Food Pantry in Montpelier and SarahÕs House in Bryan. A 2000 Census taker, she was an Elections Board officer, a former board member of the MRDD, a member of a friends' sewing group and was a regular visitor to Alzheimer patients.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Jay (and wife, Karen) Kanuch of West Bloomfield, Mich.; a daughter, Michelle Morris of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas and Emma Morris; four brothers, Michael (Pauline) Bene of Australia, Daniel Bene of Cleveland, Timothy Bene and Joseph Bene of Fort Myers, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Judith Ann) Curtis of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mrs. Douglas (Sandra) Mitrisin of Las Vegas, Nev.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home-Bryan. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Bryan, with Father Collins Asonye of Defiance to officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarah's House in Bryan.

Michael Paul Thierry

WAUSEON - Michael Paul Thierry, 5, of Wauseon, died Sunday morning, Aug. 1, 2004, at C. S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., after undergoing his third heart surgery on Friday.
Born July 8, 1999, at Toledo, to Brenda (Dominique) and Jeff Thierry, he had lived his life in Wauseon.
He attended Emmaus Christian Pre-School and the Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon. Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Krista and McKenna; paternal grandparents, Leonard and Lois King of Archbold; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Paul Thierry and Arthur "Bud" Myers; and maternal grandparents, Victor and Fern Dominique.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 2-8 p.m. in the Crossroads Evangelical Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the church with Pastors Dave Conn and Wes Hoffmire to officiate. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of the arrangements.

Merlin "Kerdie" Wallen

PIONEER - Merlin "Kerdie" Wallen, 62, of Pioneer, died Sunday morning, Aug. 1, 2004, at the emergency room of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan. Arrangements are pending at the Thompson Funeral Homes.

Donna G. McCain
(1947 - 2004)

Donna G. McCain, 56, of Bryan, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio-Bryan.
Born Nov. 13, 1947, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of Lessie (Kraft) and John L. McCain, and they preceded her in death.
She had worked for Air-Way Manufacturing in Edgerton.
Surviving are a son, Robert "BJ" (and wife, Laura) Countermon of Hicksville; a daughter, Veronica Countermon of Bryan; four brothers, Joe (Connie) McCain of Sherwood, Ron (Linda) McCain of Payne, Rick (Tina) McCain of Hicksville and Wayne McCain of Napoleon; a sister, Sharon Smith of Oak Hill; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. in the Burr Funeral Home and Crematory, Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Snavely to officiate.
Memorials may be made to Cancer Assistance of Williams County.
