Walter H. Stansbery
C & O Railroad retiree

Walter H. "Wassie" Stansbery, 87, formerly of 636 N. Vance St., Carey, died at 8:20 p.m. in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

He was born on April 12, 1913, in Wyandot County, to Leonard and Marietta "Etta" (Musgrave) Stansbery. On Aug. 25, 1935, he married Lucille M. Dill. She died in 1980.

Surviving are: two sons; James Stansbery of Ozark, AL., and Dennis "Toby" Stansbery of Carey, five daughters; Helen Ratliff and Mrs. Dale (Phyllis) Hickle, both of Carey, Rosemary Smith of Van Buren, Mrs. Walter (Lorraine) Brown of Fostoria and Mrs. Lloyd (Margie) Logsdon of Carey, 27 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren, three brothers; Alfred Stansbery of Upper Sandusky, Howard and Carl Stansbery both of Carey.

Deceased are two sons, Michael Lewis Stansbery and Charles "Chuck" Stansbery, brothers; David, Richard, Roy and Paul Stansbery, two sisters; Marietta Stansbery and Clara Mae Benson.

Mr. Stansbery retired from both the C & O Railroad in 1954 after 22 years of employment and from National Lime & Stone Co., Carey in 1975 after 21 years of employment. In addition, he worked part-time for the Crawford Township Trustees.

He was affiliated with the Methodist faith, a member of the Carey Conservation Club and a life member of the Carey Eagle's Aerie 3098.

Service will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, and will be officiated by the Rev. Cynthia Morrison. Burial will be at the Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Walter H. Stansbery Fund in care of the funeral home.

Joseph E. Swartzmiller
Retired County employee

Joseph E. Swartzmiller, age 88, of 8783 South SR 19, Bloomville, died Tuesday morning, March 27, 2001, at the Autumnwood Care Center, after a brief illness.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1913, in Seneca County, to Cleveland and Hazel (Green) Swartzmiller. On Sept. 20, 1941, in Bloomville, he married Lula M. Meyers. She died in 1993.

Surviving are: two sons; Michael R. Swartzmiller of Bloomville, and David A. Swartzmiller, four sisters; Mrs. Gouldy Flood of Bloomville, Mrs. Helen Pine of Republic, Mrs. Ladora Studor and Mrs. Geraldine Kessler, both of New Washington, nine grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

Deceased is a sister, Armita Kaniseki.

Mr. Swartzmiller, a farmer, was also employed with the State and Seneca County Highway departments for 25 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of the Bloomville United Church of Christ, Past Master of Eden Lodge 310, F & AM in Bloomville, Past Worthy Matron of Luella Chapter 223, OES, in Bloomville, the Melmore Oddfellows and the Bloom Community Grange.

Services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home, with a 6:30 p.m. Masonic Service.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Gloria Kathleen Shull
Fostoria resident

Gloria Kathleen "Kate" Shull, 83, of 461 W. Lytle St., Lot 94, Fostoria, died on Monday, March 26, 2001, in Fostoria.

She was born on July 4, 1917 in Arcadia, to William John and Florence Pearl (Duffy) Smith. In 1940, in Ludlow, Ky., she married Harry Milo Shull. He died in 1992.

Survivors include: a brother; Theodore W. "Ted" Smith of Findlay, and a sister; Margaret Shaver of Fostoria.

Also deceased are: brothers; Leland, Milton, Lloyd and Donald Smith and a sister; Dorothy Cranick.

Mrs. Shull was co-owner of a grocery in Carey and had been employed at Autolite for 10 years.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Carey, and was a graduate of Wayne High School.

Service is 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with interment at the Van Horn cemetery, Vanlue.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, 3355 Glendale, Ave., Toledo, OH 43614-2489.

Katherine Ruth Schermer
Infant daughter

Katherine Ruth Schermer, six months, of 123 Westwood Dr., died at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Vincent's Mercy Hospital of Toledo.

She was born on Sept. 11, 2000, in Fremont, to Toby and Elizabeth "Lisa" (Herner) Schermer. They survive in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: a brother, Eric Schermer of Tiffin; maternal grandparents Robert and Sue Herner of Williamston, Mi.; and a paternal grandmother, Ruth Schermer of Albuquerque, NM.

Services will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Herbster Chapel, Pfleiderer Hall, Heidelberg College, with the Rev. Donald Lindman officiating. Burial will be in Williamston, MI.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society or the Children's Miracle Network.

Jana Maria Conine
Fostoria resident

Jana Conine, 54, of 718 Circle Drive, Fostoria, died at 11:20 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at her home.

She was born on July 2, 1946, in Risingsun, to Alfred L. and Georgeann M. (Huff) Conine. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include two brothers, Jack C. Conine and Kevin L. Conine, both of Fostoria.

Maternal grandparents Charles Huff and Gertrude (Huff) Correll and paternal grandparents Charles and Ella Conine are deceased.

Services are private with interment at the Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Mabel E. Hengsteler
Former Fostoria Resident/Homemaker

Mabel E. Hangsteler, 94, of 2749 Crystal Ave., Findlay, died at 11:46 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

She was born on June 13, 1906, in Fostoria, to Sumner G. and Mary (Darst) McHaffie. On June 10, 1931, in Risingsun, she married Rollin E. Hengsteler. He died Dec. 13, 1998.

Survivors include two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Also deceased are: two sons, Eugene Richard and Dwight Owen Hengsteler; three brothers, Lloyd, Nash and Clifford McHaffie; and two sisters, Neva Graves and Florence Sager.

Mrs. Hengsteler, a homemaker, was a graduate of Risingsun High School, and a member of AARP, the Salem United Methodist Church, Findlay, and a former member of the Grange.

The Rev. Ben Lowell will officiate services at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Interment will be at the Graham cemetery in Wayne.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the Youth for Christ of the Salem United Methodist Church, Findlay.

Jean M. Reed
Mother of Tiffin resident

Jean M. Reed, 62, of Union Street, Bellevue, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in the Bellevue Care Center.

She was born April 6, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Her father and step-mother, Edith Taylor, are both deceased.

Surviving are a son, Brian Reed of Bellevue; two daughters, Mrs. John (Christine) Guss of Sandusky and Tammie Reed of Tiffin; a step brother, Edward Sims of Mt. Vernon; and six grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was a step sister, Carolyn Edwards.

Mrs. Reed, a 1956 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, retired in 1985 as a welder from General Electric, where she had been employed for 14 years. She had been a resident of Bellevue since 1956.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue, with the Rev. Sandra Hutchinson officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Stein Hospice of Sandusky, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.

Sr. M. Loyola Wonderly
Former teacher

Sr. M. Loyola Wonderly, 92, of 200 St. Francis Ave., died at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2001, in the St. Francis Convent.

She was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Frenchtown to Joseph and Mary (Arend) Wonderly. A brother Leo of Maumee survives.

Deceased are two brothers, Richard and Joseph; four sisters, Sr. Cecilia Wonderly, Marcella Stein, Ann Catherine Trausch and Matilda Kinn.

Date of Reception, April 10, 1928; date of First Profession, Aug. 28, 1930; date of Final Profession, Aug. 29, 1933. She was a teacher of grades 1-6 from 1927-1943 in the following towns: Motherhouse Orphanage, Tiffin, Fort Jennings, Custar, Landeck, Reed and New Washington. In 1944 in Reed she was a teacher of grades 5-8 and also served as principal and superior. In 1948 she taught at St. Sebastian as a teacher of grades 7-8. From 1949-1951 in North Auburn she was a teacher of grades 5-8 and also served as principal and superior. From 1951-1964 she worked in x-ray labs in: Tiffin Mercy Hospital; St. Mary Hospital, Minneapolis, Mn.; and in Linton, North Dakota. From 1965-1967 she taught at Central Catholic High School in Toledo. From 1968-1976 she served as a physical therapist at St. Francis Home. From 1977-1992 she served as director of rehabilitation and also worked in restorative services at St. Francis Home. From 1993 until present she served as a special praying member.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Francis Convent Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Aubrey officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Convent Chapel where a wake service will be conducted at 4 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Otillia Grover
Attica resident

Otillia "Tillie" Grover, 72, of 6275 W. SR 162, Attica, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in Med Central Health System at Mansfield.

She was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Reed Township to Joseph and Amelia (Bischoff) Miller. On April 11, 1953, she married Robert F. Grover at Reed Assumption Catholic Church who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Paul of Robinson, Ill. and Jim of Glen Carbon, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Werner of Sandusky; Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Anseline of New Castle, Australia, and Mrs. Charles (Janet) Baldue of Attica; 13 grandchildren; and a brother, Leon Miller of Republic.

A brother, Harold Miller, is deceased.

Mrs. Grover was a 1947 graduate of Attica High School; a homemaker; a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society; and enjoyed gardening and caring for flowers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Sebastian Church with the Rev. John M. Naggle officiating, and burial in St. Sebastian cemetery, Bellevue.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, where a rosary service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 Northridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035; or to the American Leukemia Society.

Corrine M. Hartschuh
Former Sycamore resident

Corrine M. Hartschuh, 96, formerly of 211 S. Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, in Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

Mrs. Hartschuh was born May 26, 1904, in Hambleton, W.V. to Joshua W. and Lila J. (McClure) Beale. She married Eldon R. Hartschuh on March 10, 1931, and he died March 11, 1984.

Survivors include: a son, Lt. Col. (Retired) Neil E. Hartschuh of Redlands, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Ellis (Phyllis) Neal of Monterey Park, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Mrs. Eunice M. Huddle of Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

Deceased are: two brothers, Robert Beale, a brother who died at infancy; and a sister, Mary Seitz.

She was a 1923 graduate of Lykens High School; a graduate from Tiffin Business University; worked as secretary for Gray and White Co., Tiffin; nurses aide at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 20 years; a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild of the Church, Mohawk Sixty Plus Club, and a former member of the Weavers Guild. She and her sister won the Oldest Pair of Twins at the annual Twinsburg Festival in 1995; and she and her husband were crowned King and Queen at Senior Citizens Day in the early 1980's at Wyandot County Fair.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Edgar W. Shelly and the Rev. Kathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Sycamore United Church of Christ or to Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

Patricia L. Kellogg
Bendix-Autolite retiree

Patricia L. Kellogg, 70, of 17371 Twp. Rd. 50, Forest, died at 12:36 p.m., Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

She was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Carey to Edward and Edna M. (Twining) Michaels and married Richard E. Mewhorter on June 2, 1948. He died June 10, 1975. She then married Lee W. Kellogg on March 31, 1981, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Steven E. Mewhorter of Carey, twins Michael E. Mewhorter of Upper Sandusky and Mark E. Mewhorter of Lewis Center; a daughter, Sharon L. Putnam of Carey; seven grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her parents and a brother, Jack E. Michaels, are deceased.

Mrs. Kellogg was a 1948 Carey High School graduate; retired from Bendix-Autolite in Fostoria in 1984; attended Grace United Methodist Church in Carey; a member of Forest United Methodist Church, Carey Women's Bowling League, and a former member of Mother of Twins Club.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Grace United Methodist Church, Carey, with the Rev. James Sharrett officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey; also one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dianne E. Ziegman
Registered nurse

Dianne E. Ziegman, 58, of 2487 Courtly Rd., Fostoria, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at her resident.

She was born May 24, 1942, in Fostoria. She married Daniel H. Ziegman on Oct. 28, 1961, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church and he survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Amy) Stephens of Genoa and Mrs. James (Beth) Reed of Findlay; five grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Walker of Risingsun.

Deceased are a brother, Carl Walker; and her grandmother, Stella Doty.

Mrs. Ziegman was a 1960 graduate of Fostoria High School; in 1975 received her registered nursing degree from Owens Technical College, Toledo; registered nurse certified and with the Seneca County General Health District for 14 years; a member of the Emblem Club, Fostoria; and a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter and RCIA programs; was a Eucharistic Minister who distributed communion to shut-ins and many various ministries of the church.

Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. and burial in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation is 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Schools Educational Foundation or to a children's charity of the donor's choice.

Dr. Frank R. Kramer
Retired classics professor

Dr. Frank R. Kramer, 93, of 192 St. Francis Ave., Villa #24, died at 10:25 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2001, in his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Carol A. Etzkorn
Former Tiffin resident

Carol A. Etzkorn of 2375 Winghill Rd., Cobden, Ill., died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born July 8, 1952, in Tiffin to Harland and Doris Etzkorn who survive in Collins, Mo.

Other survivors include: three brothers, Larry of Springfield, Ill., Jack of Lockport, Ill., and Glen of Guthrie, Minn.; her companion and best friend, Bill Berkheimer of Cobden; and nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Ill. and was the staff horticulturist at the Anna Nursery for more than 20 years.

A memorial funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden with the Rev. Richard Ryman and other friends officiating. Interment will be in the Beech Grove cemetery in Union County, Ill.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.

Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
