Wilbert W. Adelsperger
Retired Dairy Farmer

Wilbert W . Adelsperger, 84, of 3746 TR 95 in Carey, died at 10:42 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2001, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

He was born Sept. 25, 1916 in Hancock County, Ohio, to Milton and Mabel (Hottle) Adelsperger. On Aug. 18, 1946, he married Edna Stacy, and she survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Mark Adelsperger of Hilliard, and Michael Adelsperger of Carey; a daughter, Mary Jo Sexauer of Sylvania; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. John (Grace) Moyer of Findlay, and Inez Wisely of Toledo.

Deceased are his parents; a brother, Clarence Adelsperger; and a sister Bertha Gassman.

Mr. Adelsperger served in the U.S. Army, 6th Division during WW II, was a member of American Legion, and retired as a dairy farmer.

There will be no services. Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay is in charge of arrangements.

There is no visitation; however, friends are invited to visit the family's home at their convenience.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Verlin C. Dunlap
Bloomville resident

Verlin C. Dunlap, 84, of 6258 E. CR 6, died at 8:38 a.m., Sunday, June 10, 2001 in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born March 13, 1917, in Crawford County to Charles and Susie E. (Fritz) Dunlap, and both are deceased. On Sept. 1, 1943, he married Rosie Tilton, and she survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Larry A. Dunlap of Superior, Wisc., and Dennis D. Dunlap of Sycamore; a daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Diane) Brickner of Tiffin; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Mr. Clarence E. Dunlap of Bloomville.

Deceased include: a brother, Earl R. Dunlap.

Mr. Dunlap was a 1934 Sycamore High School graduate, owned and operated Dari-Dell Drive-Thru in Fremont and Tiffin; was an electrician and carpenter for the former Tilton Bldg. and Supply in Attica; and worked for Valley Electric in Fremont.

He retired from farming in 1983, and retired in 1976, as a gear cutter and safety inspector, from Whirlpool in Clyde.

He attended Victory Christian Fellowship in Fremont. He obtained his private pilot's license in 1938 from the Civilian Pilots Training Program, and became a charter member of the Flying Farmers and enjoyed flying people for their first airplane ride.

Services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Scott Robles officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m.Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Victory Christian Fellowship in Fremont or Living Word Fellowship in Tiffin.

Amanda Kay'Mandy'Alge
Tiffin resident

Amanda Kay"Mandy" Alge, 17, of 1180 W. CR 6, in Tiffin, died at 10:20 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2001, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Upper Sandusky.

She was born March 1,1984, in Tiffin, to Bruce and Joan (Troxell) Alge.

Survivors include: her mother and stepfather, Joan (Troxell) and Roger Moyer in Tiffin; and her father and stepmother, Bruce and Joan Alge, in New Washington; a sister, Shannon Alge in Tiffin; maternal grandparents, Shar and Paul Troxell in Tiffin; and paternal grandparents, Helen and Joseph Alge in Tiffin.

Miss Alge attended Tiffin City Schools through 8th grade, just completed her Junior year at Mohawk High School. She was employed at McDonald's in Tiffin.

She was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiffin, as well as the Future Farmers of America; the Spanish Club; played summer softball and volleyball; was involved in Mohawk school plays; enjoyed fishing, singing, poetry, art and rollerblading.

Services will take place at 4 p.m., Friday, at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin, with the Rev. John Trumble officiating.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 2-4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Old Trinity Episcopal Church and/or Mandi Alge Scholarship Fund at Mohawk High School.

Wanda H. Beamer
Fostoria resident

Wanda H. Beamer, 71, of West Lytle St., died Monday morning, June 11, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 21, 1930 in Fostoria, to Harlow and Harriette (Murray) Bovee, they are deceased.

Survivors include 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Beamer was retired. She also was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arcadia.

Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, at Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia, with the Rev. David Bliss officiating.

There are no visitations.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or a Charity of the donor's choice.

The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria is in charge of arrangements.

Esther E. Collett
Fostoria resident

Esther E. Collett, 88, formerly of 423 N. SR 587, died at 10:22 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

Memorial Services will be announced and held at a later date.

Arrangements are pending at Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.

James L. Ellis
Carey resident

James L. Ellis, 96, of 130 High St., died at 10:33 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2001, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Care Center Emergency Room in Findlay.

He was born Aug. 30, 1904 to William T. and Julian (Croft) Ellis. He was married to Lillian Noris and they divorced.

Survivors include: three grandsons, David and Daniel Ellis of Carey, and Douglas Ellis of Alvada; a granddaughter Melissa Johnson of Carey; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and a sister are deceased.

Mr. Ellis retired in 1969 from farming and working in a steel mill. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, with Pastor Paul W. DeMoss presiding. Burial will take place in Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m., Thursday, prior to services, at the funeral home.

William E. Rohe
Whirlpool/Clyde retiree

William E. Rohe, of 359 CR 260, in Clyde, died at 8:43 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2001 in Toledo Hospital, where he had been a patient for 4 days.

He was born Jan. 14, 1940, in Seneca County, to Harmon and Helen (Hites) Rohe. Both are deceased. On Jan. 10, 1981, in Clyde, he married Andriea L. Swain, and she survives.

Surviving also include: foster parents, Bill and Eileen Chaney of Defiance; a son, Michael Rohe of Bloomville, three daughters, Bethani and Kariena Rohe of Clyde, and Deb Mirow of Bloomville; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Larry Rohe of Tiffin; and two half-brothers, Roger and Faron Hicks, both of Tiffin; and a sister, Diana Ryan.

Mr. Rohe was an inspector with Whirlpool in Clyde and retired in 1995 after 30 years of service. He was an Old Fort High School graduate, and a Vietnam Veteran. Additionally, he was a member of Fremont VFW and Clyde American Legion.

Services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin, with the Reverends James Lambert and Jenna Meisner officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation is 1-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, and one hour prior to services on Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund, Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Girtrue Williams
Tiffin resident

Girtrue Williams, 72, of 225 E. Market St., died at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 18, 1928 in Dry Run, to Clabe and Alabam (Howard) Shepherd. They are deceased. On July 28, 1949, in Greenup, Ky., she married Thomas B. Williams. He died Dec. 4, 1988.

Surviving include: 2 sons, Thomas E. and Timothy R. Williams, both of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Terry) Parkins of Bloomville and Mrs. Jeff (Tina) Seigley of Tiffin; 3 brothers, Bruce and Marvin Shepherd, both of Waverly, and Moad Shepherd of Bainbridge; 4 sisters, Dot Harness of Lucasville, Freda Daniels of Waverly, Jeanette Gunnoe of Chillicothe, and Bronna Holbrook of Grandville; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Pamela Kaye Williams, is also deceased.

Mrs. Williams graduated from Valley High School in Lucasville, was a prep cook at Community Civic Center, and a salad person at T.J. Willies. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and president of Tiffin Women's Bowling Assoc. for 25 years, past secretary of Monday night Ladies League; Moose Lodge; Disabled American Veterans; Amvets Post 48; and the Eagles Aerie 402.

She was an Air Force wife who lived at various bases, where she started a women's bowling league in Adanna, Turkey in 1957.

Services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, at New Beginnings Assembly of God Church in Tiffin, with the Rev. Rex King officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 5-9 p.m., with an 8:30 p.m. service conducted by the Ladies Eagle Auxiliary, Thursday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care and the American Cancer Society.

Edwin M. Chaffee
Retired American Standard employee

Edwin M. Chaffee, 75, of 4066 E. CR 36, Tiffin, died Sunday evening, June 10, 2001, in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin after a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Attica, to Harry and Nancy (Tusing) Chaffee. On April 5, 1947, he married Helen Sorg, and she died March 5, 1983. On May 21, 1986, he married Jane (Painter) Theis, and she survives.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Darlene) Showman of Bloomville; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jerry (Lynn) Swenson of Howell, Mich., and Mrs. Dan (Jill) O'Connor of Tiffin; two stepsons, Robert A. Theis of Fostoria and Charles Theis of Tiffin; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Chaffee of Bloomville; and three sisters, Mrs. Arlene Kirkwood of Tiffin, Mrs. Wanda Bonham and Mrs. Wilda Kirk of Bloomville.

A brother, Dorsey Chaffee, and a sister, Leona Hart, are deceased.

Mr. Chaffee worked at American Standard Inc. in Tiffin for 40-1/2 years, retiring in 1983 as a foreman. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Caufield Post 434 in Bloomville, AMVETS in Mesick, Mich., Bloomville United Church of Christ, was a 1943 Bloomville High School graduate, and a former member of the Bloomville Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed snowmobiling, woodcrafting, golfing, mushroom hunting, gardening and water skiing at age 70.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home in Bloomville, with the Rev. James E. Steinle officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Bloomville with military services conducted by United Veterans Service Council.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Della Irene Fate
A & P-Tiffin retiree

Della Irene Fate, 77, of 186 Hillcrest Dr., in Tiffin, died at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

She was born Feb. 27, 1924, in Tiffin, to Bernard and Irene (Wagner) Fate Sr., and both are deceased.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Fate of Old Fort, two sisters, Mrs. Norbert (Alice) Gabringer of Sylvania and Mrs. Ronald (Mary Jo) Elchert of Attica.

Deceased include a sister, Catherine Nemeth and a brother, Bernard Joseph "Bud" Fate Jr.

Mrs. Fate retired in 1983 after 45 years as bookkeeper and cashier at the A&P store in Tiffin. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Services will take place at 3 p.m., Saturday, with the rosary recited 15 minutes prior, at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Murd will be the officiant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m., Friday, at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin. A wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Norman M. Phillips
Former A & P manager

Norman M. Phillips, 77, of 516 Maple St., in Fostoria, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 17, 1924 in Tiffin, to Julius and Flossie (Harrison) Phillips, and both are deceased. On Aug. 15, 1942, at the Second United Church of Christ in Tiffin, he married Eileen M. Woodland, and she survives.

Survivors also include: three daughters, Mrs. Wetzel (Sandra) Ray of Lafayette, Mrs. Otto (Kathy) Blackburn of Fostoria, and Mrs. David (Tracy) Hierholzer of St. Marys; a sister, Mary Alice Swably of Tiffin; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Phillips served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was Staff Sergeant serving in the American Theater, awarded an EAME ribbon with a Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star Victory Medal.

He was employed with the grocery store business for 55 years which included the former A&P in Tiffin, and later became manager for the Bellevue, Fostoria, and Lima A & P stores, and the Pantry Pride Store in St. Marys.

He was of the Catholic faith, a life member of St. Mary's VFW Post, and the St. Mary's American Legion Post.

Services for Mr. Phillips will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Hoffman Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin, with the Rev. Al Wilkes officiating. Military graveside services, conducted by the United Veterans Council, will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 4-9 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
