Joan Flechtner-Etchen
Former employee of The Review Times

Joan Flechtner-Etchen, 79, formerly of Fostoria, died at 4:26 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Wyandot Manor in Upper Sandusky, where she resided.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1922, in Fostoria to Conrad S. and Esther "Peg" (Pugh) Kuhlman and both are deceased. On April 15, 1950, she married Norman R. Flechtner and he died May 31, 1973. She married Don J. Etchen and later divorced.

Survivors include: two daughters, Peg K. Flechtner of Columbus and Mrs. David (Debbie B.) Conroy of Aptos, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Flechtner-Etchen was a homemaker and had been employed at The Review Times in Fostoria as a proofreader for several years.

She graduated in 1940 from Fostoria High School and in 1942 from the former Bliss Business College in Columbus. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria and a former member of VFW Auxiliary 421 and the Order of Easter Star 94, both in Fostoria.

Services for Mrs. Flechtner-Etchen will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Rocky Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m. Wednesday prior to services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 221 Liberty St., Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Charles V. George
Retired dairy farmer and truck driver

Charles V. George, 77, of 1654 N. CR 43, Republic, died Saturday evening, June 23, 2001, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo after a 10-day illness.

He was born May 25, 1924, in Adams Township to Howard and Viva (Miller) George. On Sept. 10, 1950, in Republic, he married Joyce E. Trott and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Walter and Duane George of Republic; a daughter, Karen Eidt of Clyde; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Tom (Caroline) Kramb of Fostoria and Mrs. Michael (Sandra) Kinkle of Lima.

An infant son, Thomas George; a brother, Alan George; and a sister, Phyllis Valentine, are deceased.

Mr. George was a dairy farmer for more than 35 years and a truck driver for Standard Oil, RDS Mowery and Arthur Miller Trucking, retiring in 1986.

He was a 1942 graduate of Republic High School; a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin;

and a World War II Army veteran of the 79th Infantry Division. He was a member of: the Wade Benfer American Legion Post 404 in Republic; the Green Springs VFW; Hildreth Lodge F & AM in Republic; the Seneca Chapter 42, the Clinton Council 47, DeMolay Commandery 9 of Tiffin; Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo; Zenobia Temple of Toledo; and the Tiffin Shrine Club. He was a retired president of the St. Jacobs cemetery Association and a former Scipio Township trustee.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. William H. Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacobs cemetery in Republic, with military graveside services to be conducted by Wade Benfer American Legion Post 404.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Republic EMS or to the Trinity United Church of Christ.

Gerald B. Gier
Upper Sandusky business owner

Gerald B. Gier, 86, of 501 Clikar Dr., Upper Sandusky, died at 2:53 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 14, 1915, in Wyandot County to Frank and Fern (Beis) Gier and both are deceased. On Oct. 2, 1939, in Upper Sandusky, he married Helen L. Koehler and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, R. Jerry Gier of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Barbara S. Gier of Glouster; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and a brother, Melvin of Ravenna.

A brother, Lawrence Gier, and a sister, Leahabelle Candle, are deceased.

Mr. Gier was a 1934 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. He worked on and made radios at the former Havlin Hotel in Upper Sandusky and later became founder and owner/operator of Gier TV and Appliances in Upper Sandusky, Carey and Forest for 40 years. He retired in 1978 and sold his business in 1979.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky and enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake Erie and Lake Okeechobee in the summer.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, 226 E Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky. The Rev. Jerry Elsholz will be the officiant. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital, St. Paul Lutheran Church c/o Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351, or to the Wyandot County Historical Society Overland Inn in McCutchenville.

Gloria J. Miller
Bloomville resident

Gloria J. Miller, 54, of 10018 E. SR 224, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Attica. Father Joseph P. Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service in Attica. A rosary service will take place following visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Community Hospice Care, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.

Jack R. Plouck
Father of local residents

Jack R. Plouck, 70, of Bowling Green and formerly of Bradner, died at 12:40 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at his residence.

He was born July 31, 1930, in Bradner to Delmar R. and Oriole M. (Milter) Plouck and they are deceased. On Dec. 2, 1950, in Angola, Ind., he married Wanda S. Michael and she survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Gary R. Plouck of Tiffin, Rick L. Plouck of Bradner and Jack K. Plouck of Wayne; two daughters, Cathy S. Rupert of Fostoria and Kimberly K. Richards of Pemberville; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A brother, Robert Plouck, is deceased.

Mr. Plouck was a 1948 graduate of Bradner High School, a member of the former Church of Christ in Bradner and a former member of the Bradner Volunteer Department.

He retired in 1996 as owner/operator of J.P. Enterprise Co. and served as councilman for the village of Bradner.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Barndt Funeral Home, 121 W. South St., Wayne, with James Derickson officiating. Burial will be in Bradner cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health & Hospice in Bowling Green, Ohio or Echo Meadows Church of Christ in Oregon, Ohio.

Paul Herman Langenderfer
National Machinery retiree

Paul Herman Langenderfer, 73, of 173 N. Tecumseh Trail died Friday, June 22, 2001, in Medical College of Ohio, where he had been a surgical patient since May 16.

He was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Swanton, Ohio, to Henry and Elizabeth (Pinkelman) Langenderfer and both are deceased. On April 11, 1953, he married Alice Salhoff and she preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 1979. On May 22, 1982 in Tiffin, he married Leanne O. Wolff and she survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Glen Langenderfer of Temperance, Mich., Gary Langenderfer of Canton, and Mark Langenderfer of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Kurt (Doris) Lucius of Tiffin, and Donna Langenderfer of Westlake, Ohio; two stepsons, Dr. Matthew Wolff of Madison, Wisc., and Wayne Wolff of Walnut Creek, Calif., a stepdaughter, Rebecca Wolff of Vienna, Va., two brothers, Urban Langenderfer of Swanton and Harvey Langenderfer of Findlay; six grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death also include: five brothers and a sister.

Mr. Langenderfer graduated from the University of Toledo in 1948 and retired as an engineer with National Machinery in Tiffin. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, the Knights of Columbus; Tiffin Kiwanis, and National Machinery Quarter Century Club.

A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank A. Murd officiating. The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. A private burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The family will greet friends following the mass in the upper room at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin; the Ecumenical Sharing Kitchen; or the MCO Foundation.

Esther E. Collet
Fostoria resident

Esther E. Collet, 88, of 423 N. SR 587, died at 10:22 p.m., Monday, June 11, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born April 23, 1913 in New Riegel to Lewis M. and Helen (Wangler) Theis. On Jan 6, 1934 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, in New Riegel, she married Florian J. "Ike" Collet and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1991.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Donald P. Collet of Watersmeet, Mich., and Norbert H. Collet of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Darlene) Landry of Fostoria; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Paul Theis of Alvada, and Carl "Micky" Theis of New Riegel; 4 sisters, Mrs. Cyrill (Delores) Falter of Huron, Mrs. Burdette (Rosemary) Snavely of Fostoria, Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Smith and Elizabeth Smith, both of Tiffin.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Florian (Oleta) Kelbley and an infant brother James Theis.

Mrs. Collet was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom and its Rosary-Altar Society. Additionally, she was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria; the Catholic Knights of Ohio Branch 52 in New Riegel; and was a volunteer for Seneca County Community Hospice, the American Red Cross and the Good Shepherd Home.

A memorial mass will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Collet's body was donated to Medical Science.

Memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Home Activities or Chapel Fund, Seneca County Community Hospice c/o Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St. Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Robert Kissell
Retired truck driver

Robert Kissell, 84, formerly of 104 N. SR 101, in Tiffin, died at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

He was born Sept 17, 1916, in Mansfield, to Oliver V. and May (Scmitz) Kissell. He married Betty Tanner, and she preceded him in death in 1995.

Mr. Kissell is survived by: a son, Robert Kissell of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Susan Borden and Twila Davis, both of Mansfield; a sister, Doris Oakes of South Boston, Va., 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death also include: 3 daughters, Pam Smiley, Ruth Ann Kissell and Shirley Kissell.

Mr. Kissell was a retired truck driver and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. He enjoyed western movies, television and professional baseball.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, in Tiffin, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation is one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

Gloria Jean Miller
Banker

Gloria Jean Miller, 54, of 10018 E. US 224, in Bloomville, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, at her home.

She was born in Tiffin on Dec. 11, 1946 to Calvin and Marjorie (Smith) Adams of Tiffin, who survive. On May 1, 1965, she married Donald E. Miller who survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Michael E. Miller of Attica and Chris A. Miller of Bloomville; two daughters, Dana M. Willman and Deborah S. Scheiber, both of Attica; a brother, Jerry Adams of Attica; a sister, Carol Wilson of Tenn., and 11 grandchildren.

Mrs. Miller graduated from Attica High School in 1964 and obtained her Associates Degree in business at Tiffin University. Gloria was former Senior Vice-president and loan officer of Sutton State Bank of Attica, a Loan Mortgage Specialist with Farmers State Bank in New Washington; former president of the Seneca County Bankers Assoc., and a former member of the Board of Directors, Mercy Hospital in Willard.

She was a member of St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society of Attica. She enjoyed camping, golfing and her grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Attica. Father Joseph P. Szybka will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home in Attica. A rosary service will take place following visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Community Hospice Care, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio 44883.

Robert A. Brendle
New Riegel resident

Robert A. Brendle, 87, of 9135 W. TR 108, died at 6:36 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2001 at Medical College of Ohio.

He was born in Seneca County on Dec. 5, 1913, to Jacob F. and Martha (Border) Brendle. On Feb. 13, 1938, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Tiffin, he married Eunice C. Adams. She preceded him in death on Jan 23, 2001.

Survivors include: four sons, Ronald A. Brendle of Scottsville, Ky., Robert A. Brendle II of Fostoria, J. Frederick Brendle and Charles A. Brendle, both of New Riegel; two daughters, Mrs David (Beverly A.) Dundore of Tiffin, and Mrs. Vaughn (Mary M.) Moore of Fostoria; a brother, Willard Brendle and a sister Luella Gorby, both of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mr. Brendle in death also include: a brother Gilbert Brendle and a sister, Mildred Brendle.

Mr. Brendle was a lifelong Seneca County Farmer and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Fostoria, where he was a trustee and member of the consistory. Also, he was a member of Hopewell-Loudon School Board for more than 18 years, and in May 2001, he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame for his dedicated service to the school system. He was also a member of the Bascom Elevator and the Farm Bureau.

Services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Fostoria with the Rev. Jim Michaels officiating. Interment will be in Sand Ridge cemetery in Bascom.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m., Thursday, at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Doris Salyer
Clyde resident

Doris Salyer, 74, of Pfieffer Ave., died Monday, June 25, 2001, in Medical College of Ohio.

She was born Aug. 31, 1926 in Salyersville, Ky., to Taylor and Mary (Whitaker) Marshall, and both are deceased. On Jan. 29, 1946, she married Samuel Salyer and he survives.

Survivors include: a son, Marvin Salyer of Marysville, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Danny (Brenda) Hackenburg of Clyde; 5 brothers, Greeley and Paul Marshall of Michigan, Robert and Jerry Marshall of Clyde, and Ronald Marshall of Fostoria; 3 sisters, Mrs. Burley (Shirley) Whitaker, Joyce Haynes, and Mrs. Henry (Loretta) Whitaker, all of Clyde; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Delford and Delmer Marshall.

Mrs. Salyer attended Salyersville High School and was a homemaker. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Clyde and was a member of the Fremont Moose and member of Central Ohio Emmaus Community.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde with the Rev. Paul Finney and Porter Richards officiating. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery in Clyde.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Assoc., South Shore Branch 226, SR 61, Norwalk, Ohio 44857.
