Oscar C. Mapus
Navy veteran/local farmer
Oscar C. Mapus, 79, of Fremont, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, in Providence Hospital in Sandusky.
He was born March 16, 1922, in Vickery, to Albert and Dora (Velizuette) Mapus and both are deceased. On June 5, 1943, he married
Jean Fitz and she survives.
Survivors include: two sons, David Charles Mapus of Fremont, and Stephen Mapus of Clyde; a daughter, Mrs. Bradley (Patricia Jean) Fry of Old Fort; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Simmons of Vickery and Mrs. Kenneth (Rosemary) Kingsborough of Castalia; eight grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Richard Allen Mapus, and two brothers, Leo and John Mapus.
Mr. Mapus attended Townsend School and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont. He was a WW II Seabees Navy veteran and was a farmer for 35 years.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont. The Rev. Mark Herzog will be the officiant. Burial, with military graveside services provided by the Clyde American Legion and Clyde VFW, will be in Ellsworth cemetery in Clyde.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. A Christian Wake Service will take place at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Carrol L. Stockdale
Tiffin resident
Carrol L. Stockdale, 68, of Charlotte Street, died at 2:23 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Mt. Gilead, to Ivan and Mabel (Price) Stockdale. Both preceded him in death. On Dec. 26, 1951, in Adrian, Mich., he married
Nancy Ohler and she died in 1996.
Survivors include: two sons, Carrol Stockdale Jr. of Bettsville and Robert Stockdale of Florida; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Nanette) Butler of Republic, Mrs. Frank (Lydia) Fourtner of Bloomville, and Mrs. William (Edna) Robison of Indiana; three brothers, Lowell, Larry and Jerry Stockdale, all of Mt. Vernon; a half brother, John Stockdale of Kentucky; a sister, Shirley George of Washington; two half sisters; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harrold Stockdale, and two sisters, Pauline Stahl and Ramona Brighner.
Mr. Stockdale worked 39-1/2 years at Whirlpool as a machine operator.
Services, conducted by the Rev. Jan Kucera, will be private. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Tiffin.
There will be no visitation.
The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Bair Jr.
Uni-Grip employee
John "Guy" J. Bair Jr., 51, of CR 12, Bloomville, died at 7:01 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, in Bloomville.
He was born in Tiffin on Nov. 28, 1949, to John J. and Jacqueline (Bach) Bair Sr. They are deceased. On Aug. 13, 1998, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., he married
Inez A. Jones and she survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Daniel Bair of Nebraska and Matthew Bair of Tiffin; three daughters, Mrs. John (Michelle) Neff and Mrs. Dan (Kimberly) Bagent, both of Tiffin, and Mrs. Tim (Renee) Bernal of Bloomville; two brothers, David Bair of Republic and Robert Bair of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Dale (Mary) Cole of Tiffin; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Bair was employed as a machine operator at Uni-Grip in Upper Sandusky.
There will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin.
Raymond J. Bodart
Autolite retiree
Raymond Joseph Bodart, 74, of TR 114, Fostoria, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Elmwood Assisted Living in Tiffin.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Fostoria to Joseph E. and Elnora (Goshe) Bodart and both are deceased. On Feb. 4, 1950, at Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, he married
Nannette "Nan" K. Simonis and she survives in Fostoria.
Survivors also include: five sons, Stephen M. and Robert A. Bodart, both of Fostoria, Ronald W. Bodart of Fredericktown, David J. Bodart of Apex, N.C., and Gerald P. Bodart of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Jeana Kathleen Bodart SFCC of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Randy (Susan M.) Arnold of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, James and Carl Bodart, both of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Ann) Yost of Carey; and 15 grandchildren.
A daughter, Jeanne Marie Bodart, and a brother, Fr. William Bodart, are deceased.
Mr. Bodart was employed 44 years as a millwright with Autolite in Fostoria and retired in 1988.
He graduated in 1945 from St. Wendelin High School in Fostoria and was a US Army World War II veteran. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria and a Third Degree Honorary Life Member of Knights of Columbus Council 1197 in Fostoria.
The rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. Military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, with a Christian wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Lucille M. Orwig
Tiffin resident
Lucille M. Orwig, 83, of Lincoln Road, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 18, 1917, in Fireside to Richard Good and Corinne (Sommers) Good. On March 5, 1938, in Fireside, she married
Daryl L. Orwig and he died June 16, 1994.
Survivors include: two sons, Melvin D. Orwig of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Thomas E. Orwig of Kansas, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Engleman of Tiffin; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Orwig attended Sandusky Business School and was bookkeeper and secretary for Frosted Foods in Tiffin.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin. She was past president, charter member and Emeritus member of Altrusa Club. She also was a member of Col. George Croghan Chapter of DAR; the Denarah Court 10 of Toledo; and the Lady Lions.
A memorial services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity United Church of Christ. The Rev. William Smith will be the officiant. Burial will be in Fireside cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Carl A. Musgrave
National Lime and Stone retiree
Carl Allen Musgrave, 90, of South Street, Carey, died at 11:45 a.m., Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.
He was born in Wyandot County on May 26, 1911, to Henry A. and Clara J. (Clark) Musgrave. On July 23, 1945, in Wooster, he married
Flossie D. Risner and she survives.
Survivors also include: six sons, Carl H. Musgrave of Findlay, George E. Musgrave of Baytown, Texas, Clyde A. Musgrave of Carey, Ronald J. Musgrave of Falston, Md., James R. Musgrave of Carey and Paul A. Musgrave of Benton Harbor, Mich.; a daughter, Carla D. Stevens of Carey; 30 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Howard and Lemmie Musgrave; and four sisters, Marietta Stansbery, Hazel VanBuskirk, Grace Bauder, and Opal Musgrave, are deceased.
Mr. Musgrave worked as axman and carpenter in the Civilian Conservation Corps from April-August of 1934. He was a stone crusher operator at the National Lime and Stone Co. in Carey and retired in 1970 after 36 years with the company.
He was a member of the former Beechgrove Evangelical United Brethren Church of rural Carey, a member of the Earl Green Post 344 of the American Legion in Carey, a 25-year member of the National Lime and Stone Co. retirees.
He served in the US Army in World War II in the European Theater and received a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry ribbons.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Full military graveside services will be in Spring Grove cemetery.
Visitation is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth V. Krebs
Upper Sandusky resident
Elizabeth V. Krebs, 87, of Dolly Ave., died at 1:55 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Wyandot Manor Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky. She was born Feb. 16, 1914 in Upper Sandusky, to Foster and Ruth (Lowry) Finkel. On Nov. 24, 1937 in Upper Sandusky, she married
Robert G. Krebs and he survives.
Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Young (Beverly) Kim of Columbus, and Mrs. Allan (Rebecca) Krebs-Jergesen of San Francisco, Calif., four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Dorothy Shumaker and Kathryn Cooper.
Deceased include: a sister, Sara Hoffman and a brother, Herbert Finkel.
Mrs. Krebs graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1932. She retired in 1979 after 24 years at the National City Bank in Marion. She also worked as a teller at the West Town Branch in 1955 and in 1959 was promoted to school saving department supervisor.
She was a 50-year member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Marion where she was a Luther League Leader. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky. Additionally, she was a past matron of O.E.S. 366 in Upper Sandusky, a past worthy high priestess of the Marion White Shrine of Jerusalem; a member of the El Dorado Literary Club; a member of the Artistian Guild, and a member of Jobs Daughters, all in Marion. She enjoyed playing cards, playing in several Bridge Clubs, loved to knit afghans, enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and family gatherings.
Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating. Interment will be in Marion cemetery with the Rev. Bill Maki officiating.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Herman F. Searfoss
Upper Sandusky resident
Herman F. Searfoss, 59, of Baker Drive, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Wyandot Manor Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky.
He was born in Hardin County to Floyd S. and Gail L. (Spearman) Searfoss. He is deceased and she survives. On April 7, 1961 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky, he married
Carol A. Bouy and she survives.
Survivors also include: three sons, John Searfoss of Upper Sandusky, David Searfoss of Sunbury, and Mark Searfoss of Ft. Wayne, Ind., a brother, Paul Searfoss of Kenton; a sister, Lauretta Bower of Forest; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Searfoss retired in 1991 after 30 years as a machinist at United Aircraft in Forest. He worked at the former Strasser Electric and was an independent wiring contractor for residences.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Methodist Church in Upper Sandusky and he enjoyed camping in the Smokey Mountains.
Services will be private. Burial will take place in Old Mission in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Derik Hines officiating.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper.

Orval B. Spittler

Orval B. "John" Spittler, 77, of Risingsun, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2001 in Fremont at his daughter's residence.
He was born in Skelt, W. Va., on Feb. 6, 1924, to John D. and Goldie G. (Mallett) Spittler and both are deceased. On Feb. 22, 1947 in Webster Spring, W. Va., he married
Waveline A. McCoy and she survives in Risingsun.
Survivors also include: sons, William B. Spittler of Uniontown, Pa., and Robert N. Spittler of Luckey; daughters, Mrs. Richard (Pat) Carr of Seattle, Wash., Wanda Bilger of Fremont, Judy Blair of Fostoria, Mrs. Phillip (Mary) McConnell of Genoa, and Mrs. Terrance (Sylvia) Keeler of Risingsun;
a brother, Oral Spittler of Buckhannon, W. Va., 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death include: brothers, Ordrea, Ora and Calvin Spittler; and sisters, Virginia Skidmore and Rosetta Long.
Mr. Spittler was a tool and dye maker for Seneca Wire for 34 years and retired in 1986. He was also a coal miner in W. Va. He was a World War II veteran stationed in Germany and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of Girton Church of God and president of Local 775.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. The Rev. Herbert T. Hill will officiate. Military graveside rites by United Veterans of Fostoria will be conducted in Knollcrest Gardens in Arcadia.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home.

Edna J. Stetler
GE retiree
Edna Josephine Stetler, 89, of Shiloh, died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Mercy Hospital of Willard, following an extended illness.
She was born June 30, 1912, in Tiro, Ohio to Charles E. and Edna E. (Nye) Swartz. Her husband, Henry B. Stetler, preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1960.
She had been employed at the former G.E. in Bellevue Lamp Plant for 25 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Crouse Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tiro, and a member of O. E. S. Sappmo Chapter 58 in Attica.
Survivors include: two grandsons; six granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death include: two sons, Gordon and Fredrick Stetler; a daughter, Julia Zellner Stockmaster; a brother, Charles Swartz; two sisters, Margaret Amstutz and Elma Winn; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service in Attica. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donald W. Shepherd
Retired Tiffin City School Superintendent
Donald W. Shepherd, 90, of Gross St., died at 3:27 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2001, in St. Francis Home in Tiffin, where he had resided since April 2000.
He was born Jan. 15, 1911, in Morristown, to John J. and Celiscia (Fritter) Shepherd. They are deceased. On June 18, 1936, he married
Geneva Coleman in Portsmouth, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Wayne L. Shepherd of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. DeWitt (Gwen) Lewis of Tiffin; a brother, Joseph T. Shepherd of St. Clairsville; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Decesaed include: a daughter, Joyce Shepherd Moser; two brothers, Roger S. and John L. Shepherd; and a sister, Alice B. Mauersberger.
Mr. Shepherd graduated from Barnesville High School in 1929; attended Ohio University, A. B. 1934 and Senior Class President, Phi Beta Kappa, honorary society, Tau Kappa Epsilon, social fraternity and Ohio State Univ., M. A. 1938.
He was a teacher from 1934-1939 with Barnesville Ohio School District and was high school principal from 1939-1949 and superintendent from 1949-1954. From 1954-1969, he was superintendent with Columbian H.S., Washington and Krout Elementary, and later, Lincoln and Noble Elementary Schools, all in Tiffin. After he retired, he became an Assistant Professor at Heidelberg College from 1969-1979.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tiffin, member of the Rotary Club, Honorary Membership, Paul Harris Fellowship, a member of the Barnesville Area Education Foundation Hall of Fame, and a member of the Masons. He enjoyed woodworking, playing tennis, fishing, and his family.
Services are private with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
