Melba Wice-Abbott, 83, of 408 N. Main St., Bloomdale, died at 7:10 p.m., Thursday, July 12, 2001, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Care Center, Findlay.

She was born in Gallipolis, June 3, 1918, to Reuben O. and Jennie (Rees) Russell. She married Richard K. Wice Nov. 25, 1943, and he died Sept. 10, 1974. She then married Fred J. Abbott Aug. 18, 1984, and he died July 28, 1993.

Survivors include: a son, Russell "Rusty" Wice of Edgewood, Ky.;

a step-son, Fred Abbott of New Haven, Conn.; three step-daughters, Barbara McFadden of Findlay, Janis Bobb of New Albany, and JoAnn Crawford of Thornton, Colo.; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Joe Russell of Gallipolis, and Rudy Russell of Kokomo, Ind.; and a half-sister, Barbara Thompson of Defiance.

Also deceased are: two brothers, Bradyn L. Russell and David Russell; and a sister, Leona Ruth Russell.

She was self-employed as a hair stylist since 1939 and was the owner of Melba's Beauty Shop in Bloomdale from 1944-present; a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Bloomdale where she was an honorary member of the Administrative Board, taught Sunday School and belonged to the United Methodist Women; a former council member of Bloomdale where she was one of the first women to serve; and active in Bloomdale/Elmwood school consolidation and past president of Bloomdale PTA.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Bloomdale, with the Rev. Neil Foster officiating. Interment will be in Weaver cemetery, Bloom Twp.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 today in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria; and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 N. Garfield St., Bloomdale, OH 44817.

Colbert D. Hall Sr.
Fostoria plumber

Colbert D. Hall, Sr., 60, of 246 Crescent St., Fostoria, died at 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in the home of his daughter.

Mr. Hall was born May 9, 1941, in Parkersburg, W.V. He married Evagean Enochs and they divorced.

Survivors include: two sons, Colbert Hall Jr., and Lloyd Hall of Fostoria; eight daughters, Angie Terrell of Wharton, Sheri Terrell and Wilma Terrell of Butler, Pa., Margaret Hall of Tiffin, Pamela Craft, Edith Hall, Brenda Hall, and Samantha Hall all of Fostoria; 28 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Rich Hall of Marion, and Jake Hall of West Virginia.

A son, David Lee Hall, preceded him in death.

He was a plumber for Bingle Plumbing of Fostoria; a member of the Army National Guard; and a former member of the Amvets, Tiffin.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Seneca County Home cemetery, Tiffin, with the Rev. Jan Kucera of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tiffin, officiating.

Lawrence E. Bell Sr.
Truck driver

Lawrence E. "Larry" Bell, Sr., 72, of 1332 Chateau Circle, Findlay, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Mr. Bell was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Glen Hope, Pa. to Russell and Verna (McNeil) Bell. In San Antonio, Texas, on Aug. 12, 1950, he married Margaret "Marge" Wroblesky, and she survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Lawrence E. "Buzz" Bell, Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Merel (Joanne) Beverly of Negley, and Mrs. Doug (Chelly) Bundy of Findlay; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-52. While in the service, he served on the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington cemetery, Va. He worked as a truck driver for several companies, most recently with Sentinel Truck, Toledo; retired about 1980; a member of St. Michaels (Annex), Findlay, Findlay Moose Lodge, and VFW.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michaels, East Chapel, Bright Road, Findlay, with the Fr. Peter Yock officiating. The Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct the military rites at the Knollcrest Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. at Routson Funeral Chapel, Findlay.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Twila A. Falter
Developmental center retiree

Twila A. Falter, 75, of 924 E. TR 201, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001, in Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born March 12, 1926, in Bloomville to Charles and Inez V. (Rife) Broede, and they are deceased. On Nov. 16, 1946, in St. Stephen's Rectory, she married Berdell E. Falter, and he survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Robert J. and Daniel L. Falter, both of Republic; and a daughter, Bonita L. "Bonnie" Shawberry of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Thelma Clark, and a daughter, Jean Marie Falter, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Falter graduated in 1944 from Bloomville High School. She retired from Tiffin Developmental Center as a secretary and had previously worked switchboard and admitting at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin and a gift shop volunteer for many years at Mercy Hospital and St. Francis Nursing Care Center in Tiffin. She was a member of the Republic Grange, the Tiffin Ladies Moose Lodge, and the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Francis.

The rosary will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church with services at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Frank Murd will be the officiant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Memorials may be made to Autumnwood Care Center, Community Hospice Care or Mercy Hospital.

Betty Jane Koudelka
Former Tiffin resident

Betty Jane Koudelka, 72, of Marion and formerly of Tiffin, died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001, in Marion Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Tiffin Sept. 21, 1928, to Harmon and Gertrude Werling, and both preceded her in death. She married Gregory D. Koudelka July 24, 1948, and he died Aug. 5, 1994, in Marion.

Survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sharon J.) Meddles of Marion, Mrs. Paul (Teresa) Cline of Anthem, Ariz., Nanette Koudelka of Columbus, and Frana Koudelka of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a brother and four sisters.

Mrs. Koudelka was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marion and was an avid golfer and member of Whetstone Golf Course. She was a bus driver with Marca School for 25 years.

A Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marion with the Rev. Rodney Damico officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion. A parish prayer service will be at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Darel D. Eschbach
Porcelain Products retiree

Darel Dale Eschbach, 85, of Carey, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, in Eaglewood Care Center in Carey.

He was born April 28, 1916, in Wharton to H. Dale and Muriel (DeVene) Eschbach. They preceded him in death. He married Helen M. Pfeifer in 1939, and she died in July 1966. On May 15, 1981, he married Jeannine O. Brown-Lanker, and she died April 26, 1994.

Survivors include: a son, Darel Eschbach Jr. of Mesa, Ariz., and a daughter, Marilee Eschbach of Vandalia.

Mr. Eschbach retired as a millwright at Porcelain Products in Carey.

Private family graveside services will take place at Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316.

Connie L. Michael
Fremont resident

Connie L. Michael, 86, of Fremont, died Saturday, July 14, 2001, in Arbors At Clyde.

She was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Mt. Jackson, Va., to John E. and Della (Garrett) Ryman. She married H. Dale Michael in Tiffin on Nov. 19, 1941, and he survives in Fremont.

Survivors also include: two sons, Robert D. Michael of Fremont and Roy T. Michael of Green Springs; two brothers, Frank Ryman of Big Rapids, Mich., and Harold Ryman of Tiffin; a sister, Mary Tahlman of Bascom; and four grandchildren.

Deceased include: her parents; an infant daughter, Frances Darlene; a brother, Charles Ryman, and three sisters, Kathryn Rausher, Carrie Fox, and Ruth Omelia.

Mrs. Michael graduated from Jackson-Amsden High School in 1932 and received a bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green State University in 1970. She taught school at Partridge Harbor (a one-room school house in rural Tiffin); Cromers School; Old Fort; and taught second grade in Green Springs for 24 years. She retired in 1978.

She was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church; Batesole Community Farm Women's Club; and MNI (Many New Ideas Club). She enjoyed gardening.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, 425 E. State St. in Fremont. The Rev. Lowell Peterson will be the officiant. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Merlin O. Brown
Tiffin Hardware co-founder

Merlin O. Brown, 84, of 1840 S. Winfield Drive, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Lucas County, to Charles G. and Maggie M. (Marti) Brown. On Sept. 9, 1939, he married Mildred K. Vandenburg at Asbury United Methodist Church in Toledo, and she survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Raymond R. Brown of Tiffin; three daughters, Julie Ann Quick of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Thomas E. (Carol Anne) Graham of Tiffin and Mrs. Robert (Lois M.) Loar of Gibsonburg; a brother, Robert L. Brown of Deming, N.M.; four sisters, Grace Witte Blank of Oxnard, Calif., Elnora Mathewson of Waterville, Bette Jones of Toledo and Mary Louise Gruelich of West Union, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A brother, Clarence, and a sister, Martha, are deceased.

Mr. Brown graduated from Waterville High School and attended Toledo University. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and The Kum Double Class. In 1960, he co-founded Tiffin Hardware.

He was a member of Ohio Hardware Association Board; served on the First National Bank Board; was a charter member of Tiffin Business Boosters; was a Kiwanis member, was a member of Tiffin Masonic Lodge 77, Tiffin Shrine Club and Zenobia Temple Toledo, A.A.O. N.M.S; was a Red Cross volunteer and Seneca County Agency Transportation volunteer.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Tiffin. The Rev. Gail Angel will be the officiant. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, SCAT, the Ecumenical Sharing Kitchen, Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.

Charles J. Welly Sr.
Tiffin resident

Charles Joseph Welly Sr., 74, of 541 S. TR 113, died at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 14, 1926, in Alvada, to Jacob F . and Maryann (Tiell) Welly. On April 17, 1948, he married Viola Anna Reinhart at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel. She survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Kenneth James Welly of Tiffin; two daughters, Rosemary Dariano of Tiffin; and Theresa Nichols of Tiffin; three brothers, John and Joseph Welly of Tiffin and Martin Welly of New Riegel; four sisters, Florence Reinhart and Lila Mae Faber of Tiffin, Mary Reineck of Risingsun and Matilda Gershutz of Alvada; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A son, Charles Welly Jr.; two daughters, Jane and Sarah Welly; a granddaughter; and a sister, Louise Mackling, are deceased.

Mr. Welly retired as a machine operator from Basic Inc. in Bettsville and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bascom and the Moose Lodge in Tiffin. He loved to dance and fish.

A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bascom. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Frank Murd will be the officiant. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Tiffin.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A wake service will be at 3:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Martha R. Saunders
Former Carey resident

Martha R. Saunders, 82, formerly of Carey, died at 4:56 a.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Fla.

Arrangements are pending at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.

Edwin D. Clark
Former Upper Sandusky resident

Edwin D. Clark, 89, of Pemberville, died at 1:53 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001 in Otterbein Portage Valley Nursing Home in Pemberville.

He was born in Upper Sandusky on April 7, 1912, to Sylvester and Mabel Clark. In 1934, he married Ida Marie Swartz. She died June 28, 1996.

Survivors include: a son, Daniel Clark of Elyria; two daughters, Cynthia Clark and Mrs. Leonard (Sandra M.) Lepper, both of Bowling Green; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death also include: a brother, Elmore, and a sister, Lela Starr.

Mr. Clark attended O. S. U. and O. N. U. He worked in insurance and auto sales in Upper Sandusky; worked at a construction company in Marion, and worked many years at Buckeye Auto Parts in Fostoria. He was an auto part specialist at Rossford Ordnance Depot, worked at Letterkenny Ordnance in Pa. and in Washington, D.C.

He retired and resided in Palm Bay, Fla. for 23 years, where he was a member of and taught Sunday School at the U.M. Church and was a representative of the American Bible Society.

In 1996, he moved to Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Village in Pemberville and was a former member of EUB Church in Risingsun; and the Luckey Zion United Methodist Church; AARP; and Risingsun American Legion. He enjoyed stamp collecting, ham radio operation, created ojo de dios (eye of God) for his friends and nursing home residents, and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II as a supply clerk in England.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Village, north of Pemberville.

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, at Oak Hill cemetery in Upper Sandusky with the Rev. Joy French officiating.

Memorials may be made to Luckey Zion United Methodist Church, Otterbein Portage Retirement Village or Palm Bay United Methodist Church in Fla. in care of Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P. O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.
