Melvin Harbaugh
Toledo Tool and Die owner

Melvin Harbaugh of Toledo, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, following a long illness.

He was born in Toledo, Dec. 12, 1919, to Arthur and Ethel Harbaugh and they preceded him in death. His wife, Eleanor Harbaugh survives.

Survivors also include: sons, Melvin and Donald Harbaugh, a grandson, and three granddaughters.

Deceased include two brothers, Donald and Richard Harbaugh.

Mr. Harbaugh was the owner of Toledo Molding and Die, with plants in Carey and Sycamore. He retired as Chairman of the Board in 1997. His sons, Don and Mel jointly purchased the company in 1989.

He was a supporter of Camp Courageous, Toledo Minority Golf Assoc., a supporter of education and sports at Univ. of Toledo, Florida State Univ., and St. Francis H.S. Numerous scholarships in his name were given to graduating seniors at high schools which included Carey and Sycamore.

Services will take place 11 a.m Saturday at Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 3815 Sylvania Ave., in Toledo. Entombment will be in Toledo Memorial Park.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, U of T Golf Team, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Kathryn G. Lucius
Retired dietician

Kathryn G. Lucius, 89, of St. Francis Home and formerly of 7 W. Market St., died at 10:10 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2001, in the emergency room of the Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Feb. 8, 1912, in Franks to Albert and Anna (Hosman) Gerber. On May 12, 1936, she married Robert Crist in Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sandusky. He died Dec. 5, 1948. She then married William P. Lucius July 10, 1954, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He died June 25, 1988.

Survivors include a step-son, William C. Lucius of Perrysburg; a step-daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Marilyn) Brickner of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; a sister, Edith Bluhm of Sandusky.

A sister, Marie Beach; and two brothers, Michael and Phillip Gerber are deceased.

Mrs. Lucius was a 1930 Sandusky High School graduate and retired in 1936 as a dietician at Good Samaritan Hospital, Sandusky. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church; the Rosary Altar Society, Poor Soul's Society, St. Francis Auxiliary and a volunteer at St. Joseph School for many years.

Rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by the funeral mass at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James Say officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Home, the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Sharon J. Haudenshild
Tiffin Moose Lodge employee

Sharon J. Haudenshild, 53, of 67 Maul Road, died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at her residence.

She was born in Tiffin, Dec. 4, 1947, to Frederick and Margaret (Schetter) Miller. They preceded her in death.

She married Philip A. Haudenshild in Tiffin on Sept. 26, 1964, and he survives.

Survivors also include a son, Fred N. Haudenshild of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Sherri) Ferstler of Benton, and Mrs. Randy (Karri) Severs of Fremont; four sisters, Mrs. David (Jeanette) Huffman of Sylvania, Joann Hemmerly, Mrs. Robert (Judy) Martin, and Shirley Bell, all of Tiffin; and three grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were three grandsons.

Mrs. Haudenshild was employed for 31 years at Tiffin Moose Lodge as a bar maid. She was a member of Tiffin Moose Auxiliary.

There are neither services nor visitations scheduled. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Tiffin Moose Lodge.

Memorials may be made to her family.

Kathryn G. Lucius
Retired dietician

Betty M. Benham
Sister of Tiffin resident

Betty M. Benham, 68, Ada, died at 9:34 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at her home.

She was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Belle Center to Clarence and Della M. (Schnegg) Hitchcock. They are deceased. She married Ned Benham on March 9, 1953, in Elizabeth City, N.C. He survives in Ada.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Vicki M. Coldiron and Mrs. Jeff (Terri L.) Walters, both of Ada; a brother, Bob Hitchcock of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Ellen) Badertscher of Bluffton and Mrs. Sylvester (Darlene) Combs of Lapine, Ala.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren.

An infant son, Michael A. Benham, is deceased.

Mrs. Benham was a 1950 graduate of Ada High School, a bookkeeper and pharmacy technician for 28 years at Peper Drugs in Ada. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Ada; a member and past president of VFW Auxiliary 9381; a former Girl Scout leader; and a former member of the PTA and Ada Band Boosters. She served in the U.S Air Force from 1951-1953.

Services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada with pastors Thomas Arheit and Gregg King officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Ada.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and just prior to services on Wednesday. A memorial service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home conducted by VFW Auxiliary Post 9381.

Memorials may be made to Ada Public Library and/or Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospices.

William H. Graber
Atlas Crankshaft retiree

William H. Graber, 51, Eagleville Road, Fostoria, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001, at his residence.

He was born in Fostoria, Aug. 19, 1949, to Willard and Evelyn (Lantz) Graber, and both are deceased. He married Shirley A. Johnson April 19, 1969 in Fostoria and she survives.

Survivors also include: a son, William Graber of Cygnet; a daughter, Mrs. John (Christy) Chambers of Fostoria; two sisters, Janet Graber of Fostoria and Ellen Graber of Florida; and a grandson.

Mr. Graber retired in 1988 as a tool sharpener at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria. He graduated in 1967 from Fostoria High School and attended the University of Findlay. He was a member of West Millgrove Congregational Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. The Rev. Donald Goodwin will be the officiant. Burial will take place in Fountain cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Fostoria Music Boosters or Dunn's Lanes Junior Bowling Association Scholarship Fund.

Helen C. Sauber
Tiffin Ursuline Convent graduate

Helen C. Sauber, 96, Bellevue, died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at The Manor of Perrysburg in Perrysburg following a brief illness.

She was born in Tiffin on April 6, 1905, to Theodore and Elizabeth (Dell) Thiery. Her husband, Carl J. Sauber, is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. David (Mary Lu) Stratso of Perrysburg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Nancy Newell, two brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Mrs. Sauber was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bellevue and the Altar Rosary Society. She graduated from Ursuline Convent in Tiffin and from Tiffin Business College.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bellevue. The Rev. Robert Tucceri will be the officiant. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic cemetery.

Visitation is private.

Memorials may be made to All Saints Vision 2000, Dixie Hwy., Rossford, OH; or Immaculate Conception School Fund in Bellevue.

Foos and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jennie M. Richardson
Fostoria resident

Jennie M. Richardson, 90, of Fostoria, died Monday July 30, 2001 at Judson Retirement Community in Cleveland.

She was born May 31, 1911 in Norwalk to Fred Manley and Muriel (Twiss) Linson. She married Duane Everett Richardson Aug. 20, 1936 in Toledo. He died May 11, 1992.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. James (Suzanne) Blaser, Shaker Heights; and Mrs. Joseph (Carole) Taris of Chula Vista, Calif; three grandchildren; two great-grandsons, and a sister, Nancy Linson Keaney of Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Mrs. Richardson graduated from Oberlin School of Commerce and attended Miami University in Oxford, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and the Rachel Circle. She was also a member of Forum Literary Group, a long-time volunteer at Fostoria Community Hospital, and the Hospital's Auxiliary.

She was an avid reader, professional golf fan and college athletics fan. She remained dedicated to a weekly swimming regimen.

Memorial services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria. The Rev. Branson Hawkes will be the officiant.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 900 Van Buren St., Fostoria, or the Geary Family YMCA, 154 W. Center St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is handling arrangements.

Howard J. Miller
Tiffin farmer

Howard J. "Houckie" Miller, 72, of 4900 W. SR 18, died Monday July 30, 2001 in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born in Tiffin on June 22, 1929, to Nicholas and Augusta (Snyder) Miller. They are deceased. He married Carole Stanfield Jan. 8, 1955 at St. Patrick Church in Bascom, and she survives in Tiffin.

Survivors also include: a son, Michael J. Miller of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Cathleen) Godfrey of Mt. Gilead; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Deceased includes: a half-sister, Dorothy Morris.

Mr. Miller was a lifetime farmer and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to services. The Rev. Stephen Schroeder will be the officiant. Burial will be in Knollcrest cemetery in Arcadia.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin, with a wake service at 3:45 p.m.

Clarence Jr. Arter
National Machinery retiree

Clarence Jr. Arter, 71 of 207 Hudson St., Tiffin, died Monday, July 30, 2001 at Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. He was born Dec. 2, 1929 to Clarence A. and Nettie Bell (Naugle) Arter in Old Fort. On April 15, 1950 he married Iris T. Shafer at St. Marys Priest House in Tiffin, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Jeffrey L. Arter of Naples, Italy; three daughters, Mrs. Julie Ann Reinhart of Tiffin, Mrs. Rebecca S. Chown of Rose Haven, MD, and Mrs. Roberta L. Kissell of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Don E. Arter of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Deceased are: three brothers, and a sister.

Mr. Arter was a National Machinery employee for 37 years as a machinist retiring in 1991. He was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 445 at St. Mary's.

The Rev. Frank Murd will officiate the 10 a.m. Friday funeral service at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home. National Machinery members will meet in body at 7 p.m. tonight.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church and/or the American Heart Association.

Lucille M. Richards
Retired Title Company employee

Lucille M. Richards, 79, of 670 E. SR 18 and former Spayth St., Tiffin resident, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born May 5, 1922 to Gayle A. and Evelyn (Hayes) Richards.

Surviving include: a sister, Ruby Heater of Fairmont, W.V.; and a special friend, Malcolm Ford of Tiffin.

Ms. Richards was a 1940 graduate of East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, W.V. She had worked for the California Title Company retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Graveside Service will be held at 4 p.m., today at the Rock Creek cemetery with The Rev. Al Wilkes officiating.

There are no visitation hours. Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her estate.
