Nora M. Starr

Nora Maude Starr, 100, of Florida and formerly of Clyde, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at the Manor at Blue Water Bay in Niceville, Fla.

She was born May 27, 1901, to the late George W. and Estella M. Lacey. She married LeRoy Trusdle who died in 1923. She later married Alvin Starr in August 1926. He died March 25, 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alton (Nora) Gibson-Butz of Naples, Fla., and Mrs. William (Ethel) Frame of Valparaiso, Fla., three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McPherson cemetery in Clyde followed by burial.

Arrangements are being made by the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Alice L. Thompson

Alice Louise (Crabill) Thompson, 92, native of Green Springs, and long time resident of Tiffin and Sarasota, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Her husband, Joseph L. Thompson is deceased.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Terry (Patricia L.) Brennan of West St. Paul., Minn., sons, James A. (Sidney) Thompson of Tucson, Ariz., Joseph L. (Elizabeth) Thompson of Knoxville, Tenn., 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at noon on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001 at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church- Egbert cemetery.

Gilbert H. Elchert

Gilbert H. Elchert, 83, of Fostoria, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria where he resided the last two years.

He was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Berwick, Ohio, to Ralph and Eulalia (Altwies) Elchert and both are deceased. He married Betty J. Davis on June 17, 1944, in New Riegel and she survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: four daughters, Carol Boos of Fostoria, Mrs. Allan (Mary Jo) Baker- Beddows of England, Mrs. Keith (Jane L.) Snyder of Findlay, and Rebecca A. Shanks of Republic; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild; a brother, Cyril "Bud" Elchert of New Riegel; and three sisters, Doris Clark of New Riegel, Wilma Renninger of New Riegel and Virginia Brown of Carey.

He is preceded in death by: a great-grandchild, Tahlor Dawn Snyder, and a sister, Rosemary Keating.

Mr. Elchert retired in 1982 as a millwright at Allied Signal in Fostoria after 41 years of employment.

He was a 1936 graduate of New Riegel High School. His memberships included: St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria; a Third Degree Honorary Life member of the Fostoria Knights of Columbus Council 1197, he held the Grand Knights office twice; and a former member of American Legion Post 73.

He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran having served in the South Pacific.

The Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Wednesday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St.. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, with a Christian Wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Church and Schools; the Knights of Columbus special project fund; and/or Good Shepherd Home.

Harold D. Keckler Jr.

Harold D. Keckler Jr., 73, of 7 W. Market St., died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Columbus.

He was born May 10, 1928, in Tiffin to the late Harold D. and Edna (Jacoby) Keckler Sr. He married Mary Ann Matthew in 1950 and divorced. He married Rita Lauterbur in 1963 and divorced.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry G. Keckler of Tiffin and Craig Keckler of Republic; a daughter Jodie (Keckler) Booze of Tiffin; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Keckler was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside services will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Seneca Memory Gardens with military rites provided by United Veterans Council. There will be no visitation.

Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward I. Messmer

Edward I. Messmer, 86, of Fostoria, died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.

He was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Upper Sandusky to the late Elmer and Bertha (Remlinger) Messmer. He married Elizabeth Meszaros on June 10, 1950. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 1979.

Survivors also include: fiancee, Betty McGirr; two daughters, Mrs. Juan (Deborah) Velasquez of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Denise Messmer of Chandler, Ariz.; a stepson, Alan McGirr of Arlington, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Cathy McGirr of Fostoria; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Carey.

Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Monday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, where the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m.

Oleta C. Watson

Oleta C. Watson, 98, formerly of Kansas, Ohio, died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.

Arrangements are pending at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Alice L. Burkart

Alice L. Burkart, 67, 55 Lindsay Ave., Tiffin, Ohio, died Monday Dec. 3, 2001, in the Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Anthony and Adelena (Ricci) Ruggiero. Her husband, Alfred E. Burkart, whom she married May 2, 1953, in St. Mary Church, Tiffin, Ohio, survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Cynthia) Cook of Washington Court House, Ohio, Ms. Jane Burkart of Atlanta, Ga. and Mrs. Peter (Susan) Wade of Pine Mountain, Ga.; a son, Steven Burkart of New York, N.Y.; seven sisters, Mrs. Salvatore (Mollie) Aiello, Mrs Joseph (Maggie) Aiello, Mrs. Carmen (Grace) Mangiola, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Shimer, Mrs. David (Pat) Klopp, Mrs. Eugene (Lucille) McClellan, all of Tiffin, Ohio and Mrs. Leona (Liz) Porter of St. George, Utah; three brothers, Daniel, Anthony Jr. and Frank Ruggiero, all of Tiffin, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Paul (Anna) Kiesel; and a brother, Bartholomew J. Ruggiero, also are deceased.

A Calvert High School graduate, Mrs. Burkart was a homemaker. She also was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and served as past president of the following: Altar Rosary Society, Calvert Lady Boosters and the Junior Women League.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation, St. Mary Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Wanda Marie Fisher

Wanda Marie Fisher, 90, formerly of 124 W. Davis St., Tiffin, Ohio, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 5, 2001, in St. Catherine's Care Center of Findlay, where she had been a resident since Oct. 30, 2001.

She was born Dec. 17, 1910, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Wallace and Minnie (Rahl) Eastman. On Feb. 16, 1935, in Tiffin, Ohio, she married Harold H. Fisher. He died in 1983.

Survivors include: two nieces, Jean Flom of Florida and Jean Angus of Tiffin, Ohio,; and a sister, Mrs. Jack (Mae) McPhail of Dearfield Beach, Fla.

A brother, Lester Eastman, also is deceased.

A Columbian High School graduate, Mrs. Fisher had been employed at the US Glass Factory and retired from Lasalle's in Tiffin. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She had lived all her life in Tiffin.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 7, 2001, in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church or the donor's choice.

Sister Flora Therese Keller

Sister Flora Therese Keller, OSU, 92, formerly of the Ursulines from St. Joseph Parish in Tiffin, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001.

Survivors include a brother, Jerome of Tiffin and two sisters, Mary Floyd of Tiffin and Madelyn Miller of Norwalk.

A liturgy will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Road in Toledo. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph cemetery in Tiffin.

Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. today in the Ursuline Center in Toledo. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. tonight in the Center.

Arrangements are under the care of Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo.

William P. Hunt

William P. Hunt, 73, of Fostoria, died at 3:43 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Toledo Hospital.

He was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Cottageville, W. Va., to the late William H. and Velma (Nutt) Hunt. He married Betty J. Sayre Feb. 2, 1952, in Cottageville, W. Va. She died May 22, 2001.

Survivors include: a son, Mickey Hunt of Fostoria; three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Vicki) West of Chesterfield, Ind., Mrs. Richard (Paula) Reinhart, and Heather Hunt, both of Fostoria; two brothers, Robert Hunt of Titusville, Fla., and Curtis Hunt of Letart, W. Va., a sister, Mrs. Gary (Lois) Hoffman of Letart, W. Va., seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Olive O. Wagner

Olive O. Wagner, 100, of Bellevue, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville.

She was born Aug. 13, 1901, to William and Emma (Behers) Wagner. She married George A. Wagner on May 29, 1933, in Hollidaysburg, Pa. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: a son, Walter A. Wagner of Bellevue; a daughter, Nellie Mae Perkins of Bloomville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 in Bloomville. Burial will be in Block cemetery in Republic.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alice L. Burkart

Alice L. Burkart, 67, 55 Lindsay Ave., Tiffin, Ohio, died Monday Dec. 3, 2001, in the Autumnwood Care Center.
