Robert Melvin Kern

Robert Melvin Kern, 87, of 54 S. Washington St., Tiffin, died at 3:48 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at Mercy Hospital emergency room. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Maude E. Mason

Maude "Marge" E. Mason, 90, formerly of 500 S. Sycamore Ave. in Sycamore, died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

She was born June 4, 1911, in New Madison, Ohio, to Franklin and Madeline (Refke) Cooligan. Both are deceased. She married Robert J. Mason on Nov. 14, 1937. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1971.

Survivors include: a son, Robert G. Mason of Holland, Ohio; a daughter, Ms. Sandy Mason of Playa Del Ray, Calif., and two grandsons, David Mason of New York, N.Y., and Dr. Greg Mason of Grand Rapids, Mich.

Preceding her in death were seven brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Mason retired as a cafeteria worker at Sycamore and Mohawk High School. She was a member of Sycamore United Church of Christ and Mohawk Sixty Plus Club of Sycamore.

She loved to play her harmonica with various groups in the area and entertain people.

Memorial services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sycamore United Church of Christ. The Rev. Diane Thomas will be the officiant. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore.

Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Thursday prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Mohawk Sixty Plus Club, Sycamore, Ohio 44882.

Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore is in charge of arrangements.

Imogene Laudenslager

Imogene K. Laudenslager, 76, of Carey died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, in the home of her daughter Carla in Tiffin.

She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Carey to the late Cyril and Clara (Jacquot) Kromer. She married Charles W. Laudenslager Sr. July 7, 1945, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

He preceded her in death Oct. 12, 1982.

Survivors include: two sons, Lt. Col. Charles Laudenslager Jr. of Upper Sandusky and Chris Laudenslager of Tiffin; five daughters, Clair McCrory of Bloomville, Mrs. William (Carla) Siebenaller of Tiffin, Susan Laudenslager of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. James (Rebecca) Camponella of Lompoc, Calif., and Patti Kessler of New Riegel; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Hager (Arlette) Bowling of Carey.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the Original Shrine Church in Carey. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Carey.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey, where a Christian Wake Service will be at 4:30 p.m.

Cleo May Krupp

Cleo May Krupp, 92, of Fostoria died at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday at Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born May 20, 1909, in Tiffin to George and Cleo (Drenner) Allis. She married Paul H. Krupp on July 11, 1931, in Fostoria. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 1999.

Surviving are: two sons, David Krupp of Fostoria and Nathan Krupp of Salem, Ore., a daughter, Janet Therriault of Fostoria; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Viola E. Montpetit

Viola E. Montpetit, of Warren, Mich., died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001.

Her husband was the late Albert L. Montpetit.

Survivors include: three sons, Donald and Marvin Montpetit of Warren, Mich., and Harold Montpetit of Shelby Township, Mich., a brother, Harold Ulman of New Riegel; and a sister Louise Reinhart of New Riegel; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Church in New Riegel. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation arrangements are pending.

Arrangements are under the care of Wm. Sullivan and Son Funeral Home in Royal Oak, Mich.

El Rita J. Cooley

El Rita J. Cooley, 94, of 7878 E. CR 6 in Bloomville, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 2001, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Eden Township, Seneca Co., to Audaces and Estella Mae (Bare) Hall. She married Harold Cooley, Sr. on April 15, 1933, in Akron. He died April 15, 1983.

Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Ida Cooley Jr. of Tiffin; a daughter and son-in-law, Don and Ann Winegardner of Republic; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Hall of Tiffin.

Deceased also include: two sisters, Enid Brause and Kathryn Crum.

Mrs. Cooley worked for 35 years as a librarian at Bliss Memorial Library in Bloomville, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Bloomville United Methodist Church; a 50 year member of Luella Chapter 223 OES of Bloomville; a member of the Bloom Community Grange; a charter member of the No Name Club in Bloomville; a 1926 graduate of Melmore High School; and a graduate of Tiffin University.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Gary Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Bloomville.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday with Eastern Star services at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Freedom Hall at Autumnwood Care Center, Bloomville United Methodist Church or to Community Hospice Care.

Viola E. Montpetit

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until time of the Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, In St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, for Viola E. Montpetit, 84, of Warren, Mich., who died Monday Dec. 17, 2001.

Mary Frances Brown

Graveside services for Mary Frances Brown who died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Joseph cemetery.

The Rev. Frank Murd will officiate. Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter D. Cochran

Walter D. Cochran, 56, of Willard, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Willard to the late Valentine and Viola (Allen) Cochran. He married Nancy Chinell of Willard 12 years ago and she survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Steven G. of O'Fallon, Ill., Timothy E. of Winchester, Va., and D. Scott Cochran of Capon Bridge, W. Va., a daughter, Angela K. Cochran of New London; seven grandchildren; six brothers, Corbet of Vero Beach, Fla., Robert of Oklahoma City, Okla., Vinson of Hamilton, Ohio, Donald of Verde Valley, Ariz., James David of Shelby and Larry of Mansfield; and a sister, Ann Chance of Winchester, Va.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Burial will be in Venice cemetery in Attica.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Thelma Baker

Thelma Baker, 80, of Killbuck, Ohio died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the home of her daughter following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Bascom to William and Lula (Chaney) Schatzinger. She married Okley E. Baker on April 23, 1967, and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1995.

Survivors include: three daughters, Nancy Moore of Parkersburg, W. Va., Jo Ann Bellville of Millersburg, Ohio and Cindy Miller of Killbuck; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cleo and Lloyd Barto, both of Fostoria; and three sisters, Glenna Sigler of Dalton, Ohio; Edith Schaffter of Wooster and Delores Lawrence of Tiffin.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, SR 241, Millersburg. Graveside services will be in Seneca Memory Gardens in Tiffin where visitation will take place 1/2 hour prior services at the cemetery.

Visitations will also take place from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg.

Virginia Vaisicca

Virginia Vaisicca, 88, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Bellevue Hospital.

She was born Aug. 13, 1913, in Douglas, W. Va., to the late Joseph and Rose (Copra) Passatore. She married Sam Buffa on June 12, 1926, and he died June 12, 1927. She later married Dominic Vaisicca on April 16, 1930, and he died Feb. 4, 1969.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Josephine) Cooksey of Bellevue and Mrs. Francis Reinhardt of Lorain; a brother, Jim Pastol of Malta, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Phillipa DeLuca of Vermilion, Mrs. Madalene Brooker of Elyria, Mrs. Mary Cologrossa of Smithers, W. Va., and Mrs. Angeline Lesick of Bethel Park, Pa., four grandchildren' one great-grandchild and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Auxter Funeral Home in Bellevue. Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. in St. Mary's cemetery in Elyria.

Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary C. McFerren

Mary Carolyn (Turner) McFerren, 70, of 187 N. Washington St., Tiffin, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at her residence.

She was born April 23, 1931.

Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Edward W. Moyer

Edward W. Moyer, 76, 3040 E. TR 130, Tiffin, Ohio, died Wednesday Dec. 19, 2001, in the Ohio Veterans' Home, Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born March 21, 1925, in Bloomville, Ohio, to the late Dwight and Beryl (Neikirk) Moyer. On March 28, 1948, in Tiffin, Ohio, he married Edna Kiesel, who survives.

Also surviving are: three sons, Daryl and (Diane) Moyer, Dennis and (Julie) Moyer and Dwight and (Karon) Moyer, all of Tiffin, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Edward (Lola) Smith and Mrs. Tom (Kathryn) Roessner, both of Bloomville, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Jill, Jodi, Todd, Katrina, Brett, Brenda and John. A grandson, Christopher Moyer, also is deceased.

Mr. Moyer worked 19 years at Sterling and 19 years at National Machinery as an assembler, retiring in 1987. A member of St. John's United Church of Christ, he enjoyed camping and working on old cars. He served in the Army during World War II.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 22, in Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Culp officiating. Entombment will be in Seneca Memory Garden Mausoleum. Military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's UCC, Ohio Veterans Home, Alzheimer's Support Group or the donor's choice.

Mary Carolyn McFerren

Mary Carolyn (Turner) McFerren, 70, of 187 N. Washington, Tiffin, died at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001 at her residence. She was born on April 23, 1931 in Tiffin to Adams A. and Stella (Andrews) Turner. She married Edward H. McFerren, and he survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: two sons, Martin Edward McFerren and Steve Allen McFerren; two daughters, Beverly Sue (McFerren) Perna, and Pari Nanette (McFerren) Brandt; three sisters, Nancy Rohrbach, Rayella Engle, and Pari Carter; ten grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Preceded in death is a son, Scott Douglas McFerren, who died in infancy.

Mrs. McFerren was a Columbian High School graduate Class of 1949, she attended Carnegie Tech and took classes at Toledo Museum of Art. She worked as a teacher of Arts for many years, a local artist, former business owner, and loving mother. A member of Christ Church of Tiffin and the founder of Tiffin Amateur Professional Artist. She lived in Tiffin her entire life.

The Private memorial service will be held at a later date.

There are no visitation hours scheduled.

Memorials may be made to Christ Church of Tiffin; American Diabetes Association; American Cancer Society; and/or American Heart Association.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard L. Schumm

Richard L. Schumm, 71, of 3697 N. ST. RT. 635, Fostoria, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001 at his home. He was born June 28, 1930 in Tiffin to Herman and Kathryn (Dowdell) Schumm. On September 5, 1953 he married Coletta M. Scherger in St. Andrews Catholic Church, and she survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Ronald of Fostoria, Stephen, John and Gerald all of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Lori) Tanner of Fostoria; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Deats of Tiffin, Ohio; Mrs. Gertrude Perko of Cleveland, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Preceded in death were: a son, Michael Schumm; twin daughters, Mary and Beverly Schumm; and a sister, Frances Schumm.

Mr. Schumm was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he received the Bronze Star and the Korean Medal. He attended Calvert High School, a retired farmer and member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. And member of the New Riegel American Legion Post 354, a past volunteer fireman in Bascom and former assistant fire chief.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001 at St. Andrew Catholic Church with The Rev. Arthur Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic cemetery.

There are no visitation hours scheduled.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church and/or Community Hospice Care, in care of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ph. (419) 447-3113, where arrangements are being handled.

Walter D. 'Walt' Cochran

Walter D."Walt" Cochran, 56, of Willard, died Tuesday Dec. 18, 2001, in Fremont Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Willard to the late Valentine and Viola (Allen) Cochran and was a lifelong area resident.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Nancy (Chinell) Cochran of Willard; sons, Steven G. of O'Fallon, Ill., Timothy E. of Winchester, Va. and D. Scott Cochran of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; his daughter Angela K. Cochran of New London; grandchildren: Derrick, Kendra, Tara, Cody, Cory, Audrey and Shannon; his brothers, Corbet of Vero Beach, Fla., Robert of Oklahoma City, Okla., Vinson of Hamilton, Ohio, Donald of Verde Valley, Ariz., James David Cochran of Shelby and Larry Cochran of Mansfield, Ohio; and his sister, Ann Chance of Winchester, Va. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Chamberlain and his sisters, Alva Albert and Nancy Yoho.

A 1963 graduate of Willard High School, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willard. He retired in 1999 from R.R. Donnelley in Willard after working there for 36 years. He enjoyed wood working, golf, gardening, boating and fishing. He was the former owner of the Dutch Town Dari Bar in New Washington.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Burial will be in Venice cemetery, Attica.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at the Walker Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Institutional Advancement Dept., UA10, 9500 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44191.
