Laurel L. Hunker

Laurel L. Hunker, 91, of Bascom, died at 2:47 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, where he had been a patient since Dec. 23, 2001.

He was born April 18, 1910, in Seneca County, to John F. and Susie (Walter) Hunker. Both are deceased. He married Wilma E. Miller on April 22, 1950, in Fostoria. She survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Steven J. Hunker of Westford, Mass., and Tracy A. Hunker of Columbus; and two grandchildren.

Two brothers Dalton and Clarion Hunker preceded him in death.

Mr. Hunker graduated in 1930 from Tiffin Columbian H.S. He retired as an automobile mechanic of 30 years, and he repaired lawn mowers.

He was a member of Union United Church of Christ; a lifetime member of Christian Leaders Sunday School Class; Pleasant Grove Grange; Camera Crafters of Tiffin; Photography Society of America; and a member of both Church and Grange dartball teams.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Union United Church of Christ in Bascom with Pastor James Michaels officiating. Burial will be in Sand Ridge cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin, and one hour prior to Friday's services at the church.

Memorials may be made to Union United Church of Christ in Bascom.

Irene E. (Mason) Powell

Irene E. Powell, 90, of 983 Pintail Lane, Charlottesville, Va., and formerly of Republic, died Saturday evening, Dec. 29, 2001, at Eldercare Gardens in Charlottesville, Va.

She was born Sept. 20, 1911, in Seneca County, to Clinton and Anna (Weiker) Moyer. She married Melvin Mason on June 4, 1927, and he died in 1975. She later married Wayne Powell on Jan. 6, 1979. He died Oct. 7, 1996.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Lorabelle B. Gayman of Charlottesville, Va., two stepsons, Daryl and John Powell, both of Republic; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edith Hemminger of Republic and Mrs. Sandra Sparks of Perrysburg, Ohio; two grandsons, Jerry A. Gayman of Denver, Colo., and Jeffrey L. Gayman of Charlottesville, Va., and three great-grandchildren, David, Debra, and Marie Gayman of Charlottesville, Va.

Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

She was a member of: Trinity United Methodist Church in Republic; Scipio-Republic Historical Society; and the Republic Lady Lions. She worked as a clerk for 21 years at the G.C. Murphy Co. in Tiffin; and for 13 years as a secretary to the Seneca County Commissioners.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2002, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Gary Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the St. Jacobs cemetery near Republic.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church or to the Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville, Va., 22911.

Barbara T. Fanning

Barbara T. Fanning, 72, of 237 Circular St., Tiffin, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

She was born Dec. 24, 1929, in Brattleboro, Vt., to the late Harold and Louise (Brown) Torrey. She married Lewis "Lew" Fanning on July 15, 1951, in Brattleboro, Vt., and he survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Barrett L. Fanning of Watervliet, Mich., and Brett M. Fanning of Fostoria; a sister, Virginia Campbell of Brattleboro, Vt., a brother, Richard Torrey of Bennington, Vt., and three grandsons, Gabe, Craig, and Tyler.

Mrs. Fanning was a graduate of Brattleboro High School. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for Tiffin Insurance Agency.

She was a member of the Congregational Church in Brattleboro, Vt.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin, with the Rev. John Teeters officiating. Burial will be in Meeting House Hill cemetery in Brattleboro, Vt. at a later date.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kathryn L. Sacksteder

Kathryn L. Sacksteder, 87, of 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born July 11, 1914, in Tiffin to Andrew and Catherine (Carrigan) Sacksteder and both are deceased.

Survivors include: a brother, Thomas Sacksteder of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Miriam S.) Fanshaw of Tiffin; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Deceased also include: three brothers, James, Richard and Robert P. Sacksteder.

Miss Sacksteder graduated in 1933 from Calvert High School and worked as a teller for many years for Citizens Savings and Loan (First Bank of Tiffin).

She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Tiffin; a Penthouse member; and a volunteer in the gift shop at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

The rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Thursday followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. James K. Say will be the officiant.

Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Calvert High School; St. Joseph Church and School; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Joseph 'Joe' Brancati

Joseph "Joe" Brancati, 79, of Palm Harbor, FL, died Saturday Dec. 22, 2001, at Countryside Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Pittsburgh, PA and lived in Tiffin, Ohio before moving to Brandon, FL.

He was a retired purchasing agent with UpJohn Corp. Joe moved to Palm Harbor in 1991. He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife Wanda; two sons, Steven and Joseph; two step daughters, two granddaughters and two step granddaughters,. Joe was loved by all and will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony.

Services were Dec. 27 with burial at the Florida National cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor's choice.

Dora Brown

Dora Brown, 82, of Clyde, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Arbors of Clyde.

She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Creekmore, Ky. to the late David and Cyntha (Allen) Baird. She married Coy W. Brown on April 30, 1937. He died June 17, 1991.

Survivors include: two sons, W. Dave Brown of Republic, and Phillip L. Brown of Clyde; five daughters, Mrs. Benny (Shirley) Runion of Clyde, Mrs. James (Wilma) Wentz and Mrs. Fred (Jo) Dejonge, both of Republic, Mrs. Karl (Jan) Baker of Fremont, and Marcia Zilba of Elmore; three brothers, Andrew Baird of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Kan Baird of Sterns, Ky., and Arlis Baird of Manchester, Ky., a sister, Della Curry of Manchester, Ky., 26 grandchildren; 41 great- grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Luella Risch

Luella "Lu" Risch, 76, of Clyde, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in the Emergency Room at Providence Hospital.

She was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Marietta, Ohio to the late Charles H. and Carrie (Ritchie) Sprague. She married Delbert F. Risch on June 21, 1958, and he survives.

A brother, the Rev. Harvey Sprague of Fremont, also survives.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in Union cemetery in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

Visitation is 2 - 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert F. Cocklin

Robert F. Cocklin, 72, of Sycamore died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

He was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Berwick, Pa., to the late Lloyd B. and Margaret A. (Myers) Cocklin. He married Lydia A. Kirby on June 14, 1958, at Sycamore United Methodist Church. She survives.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Doug (Deb) Chilcote of Columbus, Ohio, and Ms. Alesia Cocklin of Lakewood, Ohio; a brother, Richard P. Cocklin of Berwick, Pa., two sisters, Mrs. Mary Worth of Greenbush, Va., and Mrs. Clyde (Nancy) Hull of Rockville, Md.

Mr. Cocklin retired as a welder from the U.S. Navy in 1967 after 20 years of service.

Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore. Military graveside services will be conducted by Sycamore American Legion Post 250 at Pleasant View cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty J. Nimocks

Betty Jane Nimocks, 73, of 22 Liberty St., Bloovmille, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 14, 1928, in Tiffin to the late Jacob and Mammie (Koonz) Zeigler. She married Edgar F. Nimocks in 1951 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Survivors include: four sons, Richard, Edgar, and Jeffrey Nimocks, all of Tiffin, and George Nimocks of Bloomville; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Mickey Sue) Berrier of Bloomville; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will take place Saturday at Fairmont cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home in Tiffin is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph E. Zelenky Sr.

Joseph E. Zelenky, Sr. 68, of Grassflat, Pa., died at 5:09 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, in Phillipsburg Area Hospital in Pa.

He was born April 12, 1933, in Grassflat, Pa. to the late John and Mary (Brnik) Zelenky, Sr. He married Delores Luther on Sept. 11, 1954, in Osceola Mills, Pa., and she survives in Grassflat.

Survivors also include: three sons: Joseph M. of Clearfield, Pa., Dennis J. of Luthersburg, Pa., and John A. of Chambersburg, Pa., two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Susan M.) Cornwell of Tiffin and Mrs. George (Linda M.) Miller of Forest, Pa; two brothers, John Zelenky, Jr. of Bellefonte, Pa., and Robert Zelenky of Clearfield, Pa., 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Grassflat, Pa. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home, Rt. 53, Grassflat, Pa., where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. and a Christian Vigil Service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Robert E. Eborg

Robert E. Eborg, 75, of 1905 Tiffin Road, Fremont, died Wednesday Jan. 2, 2002, in St. Charles Hospital.

He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Pleasant Township, Seneca County, to the late Ernest F. and Glenna M. (Druckenmiller) Eborg. On Feb. 28, 1948, in Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, he married Shirley E. Stiger. She survives in Fremont. Other survivors include: a daughter, Michelle M. Burley of Columbus; a sister, Christine Stover of Old Fort and two grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were an infant son and a sister, Velma Eborg.

Mr. Eborg owned Checkmark Wholesale Produce Inc. in Tiffin and formerly worked as custodian at Grace Lutheran Church for 10 years, retiring in 1987. An active fisherman, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, its church council, Green Springs Masonic Lodge and Consistory of Toledo. He graduated in 1944 from Old Fort High School.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, Fremont. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Grand Piano Fund at Grace Lutheran Church.

John Thomas Baumgardner

A memorial Mass for John Thomas Baumgardner will be at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 4, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. Mr. Baumgardner, age 90, of 7 W. Market St., Tiffin, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday Dec. 20, 2001, in Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

A private burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery. Friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following the Mass in the Upper Room of the St. Joseph Activity Center. There will be no visitation.

Charles B. Might

Charles B. "Chuck" Might, 44, of Milwaukee, Wisc. died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee.

He was born Oct. 11, 1957, in Marion, Ohio to Charles F. and Mavis (Bauman) Might. Both survive in Fostoria. He married Karen Hanson and they were divorced. He later married Sallie Scharding and they were divorced.

Survivors also include: a son, Travis Might of Carrboro, N.C., a brother, Darrell Might of Milwaukee, Wisc., and four sisters, Mrs. Milton (Margaret "Peggy") Thompson of Racine, Wisc., Susan Jordan of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Ancheta of Amarillo, Texas; and Mrs. Randy (Beverly) Larson of Plantation, Fla.

Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Scott Trinity United Methodist Church in Risingsun, Ohio. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Donelda L. Smith

Donelda L. Smith, 74, of Gibsonburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, in her home after a brief illness.

She first married Donald Massie. She later married Ron Smith in 1964, in Monroe, Mich., and he survives.

Survivors also include: four sons, Jeff and Brian Smith, both of Columbus, Ohio, Troy Smith of Lindsey, and Doug Smith of Mililani, Hawaii; three daughters, Terri (Massie) Smoyer of Inverness, Fla., Lori (Massey-Burns) Potridge of Toledo, and Dr. Joni Smith-Rode of Mattinez, Ca., two brothers, Loren Stumpp of Tucson, Ariz., and Stanton Stumpp Jr. of Tiffin; a sister, Lavonda Garn of Gibsonburg; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nopper-Veh Funeral Home in Gibsonburg.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frances A. Chancey

Frances Ann Chancey, 66, of Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at her residence.

She was born March 23, 1935, in Tontogany, Ohio to the late David J. and Carrie U. (Ershick) Vollmar. She married Jack E. Chancey on Nov. 30, 1952, in Luckey, Ohio and he survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: three sons, Alvin E. Chancey of Perrysburg, Calvin E. Chancey of Bowling Green, and Eugene D. Chancey of Fostoria; four daughters, Mrs. Derald (Brenda S.) Carr of Fostoria, Mrs. Franklin (Darlene) Williams of Lima, Amy J. Sheridan and Mrs. Robert (Rhonda A.) Rife, both of Fostoria; four brothers, Richard Vollmar of Maumee, David and George Vollmar, both of Tontogany, Ohio, and Lawrence Vollmar of Weston, Ohio; five sisters, Mrs. Ilene Jeffers and Mrs. Betty Box, both of Grand Rapids, Ohio, Mrs. Ruby Ducas and Mrs. Rosemary Davis, both of Weston, Ohio, and Mrs. Shirley Householder of Orlando, Fla., 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Interment will be in Graham cemetery in Wayne.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
